Beautiful building with full-size dinosaurs at center. Excellent hands-on science room for kids to see science in action. Outside forested areas for walking, including rope bridge. The exhibits are well done and informative. very small natural history museum, and for this reason ideal for a visit with younger children, who will be awed by the giant dinosaur skeletons in the rotunda (full-sized casts, not the original fossils) but will not be overwhelmed. We enjoyed the Omnimax film on sea lions which, at 25 minutes, was long enough to be instructive and interesting, but not excessively long (masks are still required, and sitting through a long movie with a mask on is not a pleasure).

It's FREEEE! But good to donate. Many reviews posted here are for the wrong place. Reviews talking about how many dinosaur fossils there are and how big it is are talking about the Fernbank Natural History Museum a 5 min drive away, not this Fernbank Science Center. This place is small but interesting and there's a real Apollo command module there! There are maybe 10 different planetarium shows, you can check the schedule on their website. $10 for adults.

A very nice museum, kid friendly. We also got a free T-shirt. I highly encourage you to give some donations while you’re there to keep the place running. The planetarium is paid and there are shows almost every hour. There is also a butterfly garden as you walk in from the parking lot. Overall plan to spend 1-2 hours here.

This is a great place to see a planetarium show. They have lots of times and options. We watched the show “We Choose Space.” It talked about the space station. How it was built & who works there. We also learned about the potential of humans living on another planet. They had a pre show of information about Apollo & Artemis. We learned where Saturn & Jupiter are currently located too. There’s a mini museum of animals and ship memorabilia. A section where live bees occupy also. Groupon has a deal on the shows.

Great place to check out with kids. It's free to visit, though I do recommend bringing some cash to donate. They run off donations from the general public, so if you'd like to keep this place (and those like it) running and free to attend, then you must show appreciation through donations. It takes about an hour or less to go through the entire area, without doing one of the shows. The last show starts at 3pm, so you'd have to be there by 230pm to attend. They have various shows and you can see what is playing and at what time online. Please note, tickets are individual per showing. The Science museum is not beside the history museum, so if you want to visit both you will have a decent walk or a 5 minute drive between the two locations. If you're in the area, definitely check it out.

Great little museum and planetarium. Free to enter, they take donations. But the planetarium costs money. We went on a day they had an event and all the shows were free. Live animals (snakes, turtles, salamander, etc), space rocks, hands on science activities, live bees, cool outside garden, vending machine, bathrooms and more. The free part is a circle and has steps going down and up. There is a mechanical lift but it said out of order. Loved it. Wish there was more accessibility though. My small kids enjoyed it a lot.

Love this place!! They have good content in the planetarium. Very well made! We got cheaper tickets on Groupon ($6 vs $10 for an adult). On Thursday and Friday nights, if it’s clear weather, they open up the observatory for you to see the stars - no charge for that. Free parking. Other cool educational content in the center. Highly recommend!

This is a very dated science center. It isn’t without charm but the whole visit only lasts an hour at best, and there are very few interactive exhibits for children. I'd like to see some additions brought in to update the vibe. The current wall art is part of a people choice awards contest and they are all beautiful.

Great place to go if you want a free museum trip and are interested in science/astronomy education. They have various science and live animal exhibits. They also have a planetarium show that you have to buy tickets for, but is worth it to do at least once. Fun and interesting for people of all ages. By the way, this museum is completely separate and different than the Fernbank Museum down the road.

If I could rate this place 0 stars - I would. I was super excited to visit this location for my birthday. But I arrived, paid for tickets, just to find out the observatory was not open and the tickets are non-refundable. I think it's important to ask visitors if they are coming to the observatory or a show before they pay. I'm EXTREMELY disappointed that I paid $10 a ticket and drove 45+ minutes for nothing. And, as I'm reading other reviews, entry should've been free for what we saw. It wasn't a good experience at all.

I am all for educational fun and this is the place for that. I am raising 2 young gentlemen and I want to expose them to many things, so they can ask questions and be excited about learning and their existence in this world. The Planetarium is an eye - opener and I loved how many times I heard " Whoa!" , it means they are engaged and their minds are expanding. The exhibits are nice also, but I just wish there was more to explore. It is a small museum compared to others we've been to, but it kept them engaged. Totally worth my Groupon. FYI : Admission is Free, but you pay for the Planetarium shows which are 2pm and 3pm during business hours . But I do encourage you to donate if you're not interested in that particular section.

Went to see The Black Hole showing at the planetarium. Admission to the center is free, which is excellent! The show was great and we'll structured with a brief tour on the improvements to the planetarium's audio and video system, a tour of the constellations, and then the film itself. The film was very informative and definitely more in depth than watching it on YouTube.

So we live near enough to frequent the Science center with our son who is currently 4yo. He loves it there. We usually go an hour before the planetarium show and stay after for the observatory. There is also a small exhibit out back. Considering the main part of the science center is free and the planetarium shows are frequently changed and reasonably priced, this place plus a local gem in my opinion.

This is a great place to really nerd-out on a Saturday (for adults and kids alike). Not only are there tons of educational exhibits inside for the curious, but there are gorgeous and peaceful walking trails outside as well, which are beautiful and fascinating when they are doing light shows at night. Highly recommend a visit here.

I had a blast. I took the little ones for an adventure but I believe I had the most fun. I haven't seen a planetarium is ages. The staff is awesome and they were very warm and welcoming. If you haven't been, please go! You want be disappointed. There are plenty of creatures and exhibits to see.

Great activity to do with the family. We saw the Planetarium show on the total eclipse. Then my children walked around and loved looking at the reptiles in the viewing tanks. The honey bees were cool.

Incredible experience! Watched 2 shows; they were both wonderful! Staff was excellent and there are cool things to see wandering between shows. Couldn't have asked for a better time. Highly recommend 👌

Loved this place!!! On Thursday & Fri & Sat night's you can get into the roof where they have a massive star observatory telescope to vote the Planet and moon from, for free. Free to visit.

This place is great. The sensory exhibit is super informational and well thought out. The outside walking trails are well kept and quite pretty. We hadn't realized how long the Forest trail is and we're quite prepared for it, so be advised that that is not a short walk, but if we had bothered to read our map we would have seen that. The cafeteria is efficient and the prices are fair. Over all I cannot recommend this highly enough, it's really a must see if you find yourself in Atlanta.

Cute science center. Entrance to the main center is free and probably best for ages 4-10. Very cool beehive in action, photography, small reptiles and taxidermy. Small outdoor area. Can probably get through it in 30 mins. Planetarium shows are great and required paid tickets. Our show was 45 mins.

This was such a great experience! Ms. Minnie working the front desk is so pleasurable! I really enjoyed the show, and can’t wait to come back for another one. My friend and I even had the pleasure of seeing a shooting star while on the observatory. How amazing.

Not worth the trip. It's an outdated building with mediocre displays and some subpar taxidermy. The only decent exhibit was the space capsule which is only on loan. The whole place has an old musty smell and most the of the displays are poorly maintained. While it does have a decent number of things to look at, overall, it isn't worth the time or effort to make this a stop in my book.

Used a coupon on Groupon so what I paid wasn’t bad but it sure wasn’t worth it if I could’ve gotten a refund I would have the show was nothing like it was back in the 90’s. Show was posed to be 45 mins it was about 25 mins give or take a min. It started late all & all it didn’t keep my daughters interest when we left she said that was boring I agree 100%

I grew up in Georgia and I remember elementary school wasn't complete with a trip to Fernbank every year. Whether it was to check out a show at the Planetarium or discover all about the birds and the bees, they had it covered. This was in the early 90's and I still remember it. Great place. 👍🏽

It was amazing to see the Moon, Mars, and Venus at the observatory. They offer this every Thursday and Friday evening. Check it out!

I wanted to like it, but I did not. They get a 4 because it was free. Had I been charged anything I would have given it a 3. The pictures of the eclipse were cool. So was the live bee hive and the Apollo 6. I was there for maybe 10 minutes. It’s free so… you get what you pay for.

Took the kiddos to the planetarium for a show on meteorites and asteroids. Brought back a lot of memories from me going there on field trips when I was in elementary school. Place hasn't changed much but was still cool even 25 yrs later.

Great natural history museum. We found a typo in the Antarctic Dinosaur exhibit. Too many o's in Cryolophosaurus it seems.

My visit there was like wow. The history of what was transmutted was out of this world. The ambience was memorable, i still have photos of the museum. The inside of the Dome was an experience anyone will want to witness again. To the entire management and staff an excellent job in making visitors from the Caribbean _ Trinidad and Tobago like me and my family wanting to return some day. Great job.

On May 22, 2019 my nephew and I decided to visit The Fernbank Science Center. It was quite a treat. Both children and adults would enjoy it. It has many things to see. Free admission makes it a big plus.

This was a very fun and educational place. They had a wonderful taxidermy exhibit, an exhibit to learn about bees and a live hive and the original capsule of Apollo 6, which was on loan from the Smithsonian. Our two year old genuinely enjoyed the experience, as did my husband and me.
