This small museum has the whole story described in the puranas about the formation of the lingam near murdeshwar, mahabaleshwar, and other places near by. The beautiful statues needs no explanation and we can understand everything. There is an voice assistant who narrates the story in various languages. A great initiative by the temple authority. Thank you .

It's a museum in the form of cave, depiciting the story of Murdeshwar. Must visit for a complete experience. Nominal charges for cave entry, you can click pictures as well. There are other locations like Gokarna temple which is linked to this temple. This is displayed towards the exit, do check out the same.

A well maintained artificial caves at Murudeshwara. It has entry fee of 20 rupees and rupees 10 for children below 10 years. The caves depict the story of Murudeshwara, Gokarna and other. A very depicted story with the help of statues and an audio to listen to the story. People interested in mythology would definitely like the experience. The overall time taken would be anywhere around 15-20min. A must visit place if visiting the Murudeshwara temple.

This museum tells the tale of the great Shiva Bhakta Lankeshwara Ravana, Ganapati and how Atmalinga came to Gokarna, Murudeshwara and few more places. The entire story is narrated as you move along and see the beautifully made statues which almost looks like real. Ticket prices are very nominal. A must visit place for curious, creative story tellers and seekers. This is situated under the majestic Shiva statue of Murudeshwara.

It's nice place unfolding the history of Gokarna story. The sculpture made are very vibrant and state of art. Only they should display or write on a board the whole story for better understanding, as record they play in background is not much clear.

Next to the temple under the Shiva statue is the cave museum, named as the Bhukailasa Cave, where you have to pay a nominal entry fee before entering. Here you will see the life-size displays of the mythological characters of the Ramayana and Mahabharata and the many epic scenes with some commentary in the background. The story of Ravana handing over the Atmalinga to child Ganesha is also shown in some of the murals. One can easily spend an hour inside the cave museum admiring the artwork and stories depicted by the statues. However there should be some commentary attached to each display so those who are interested can understand the mythology.

Ravana(King of Lanka) was a huge Shiva bhakt. He prayed to Shiva to attain the Athma Linga for immortality. But Shiva denied to give the Athma Linga so Ravana instead asked for Parvati to which Shiva agreed. But on the way back Narada tells him that she is not the real Parvati and Parvati is in Pathala. So Ravana goes to Pathala and marries Mandodari assuming that she is Parvati. When he returns to Lanka his mother asks for Athma Linga. Ravana realises that he has been tricked again so he again worships and prays to Shiva and again asks him for the Athma Linga which he gets this time but Narada knew that Ravana's boon can cause apocalypse so he asks Ganesha to stop him from being immortal so Ganesha takes avatar of a small Bhrahmin boy and goes to Ravana. Vishnu hides the sun to show the appearance of dusk which is the time Ravana prays but he cannot put the Lunga down which can cost him his immortality. So he asks the Bhramin boy to hold it and to not keep it down but he keeps it down and Vishnu brings the sun out and Ravana loses his boon. Angered that he has been tricked again he smashes the Athma Linga and it's parts fall to different places. The top of the part falls to Mrideshwar currently Murdeshwar.

Bhukailasa cave represents that story of bhukailas with the excellent sculptures if u don't know the story of bhukailas u just cme to know that the total story while watching the sculptures it shows the original story nd characters Shiva parvathi matha nd raavana and lord Ganapathi as per story Raksha's King Ravana decides to invade Amaravati, the capital of the heavenly kingdom of Indra. Scared of Ravana's plans, Indra asks Narada for help. Narada informs Indra that Ravana's strength comes from the worship performed by Kaikasi, Ravana's mother. He suggests that Indra sabotage Ravana's mother's worship of Saikatha Lingam, a sand sculpture representation of Lord Siva. Ravana decides to perform penance and bring Lord Siva's Atma Lingam for his mother to worship. Hearing of Ravana's plans from Narada, Goddess Parvathi, Lord Siva's consort, appeals to Lord Vishnu. When Lord Siva appears to Ravana to grant his wish, Lord Vishnu manipulates Ravana's mind and makes him wish for Goddess Parvathi. As Ravana proceeds home with Goddess Parvathi, Narada meets him midway and tells him that his companion is a fake Parvathi. Dejected by the subterfuge, Ravana returns Goddess Parvathi to Lord Siva. During his return journey, he meets Mandodari, the young princess of Pathala. Believing she is the real Goddess Parvathi, he marries her. Eventually, he realizes what happened and appeals to Lord Siva for forgiveness by presenting his severed head. Lord Siva presents Ravana with Atma Lingam and warns him that, if the Atma Lingam ever touches the earth, it can never be moved again. Narada instigates Lord Vinayaka to trick Ravana into grounding the Atma Lingam at what later became known as Gokarna Kshethram in Karnataka.
