As per tradition, gold was mined near the origin of the river at a village named Piska near Ranchi. This is why it was named Subarnarekha, meaning "streak of gold". Legend has it that traces of gold were found in the river bed. Even now, people look for traces of gold particles in its sandy beds. The name is a combination of two words meaning gold and line/ streak in Indian languages.

3 stars only for the location. But localites ain't very friendly for the tourists who comes for picnic! They demand for chanda and sometimes foods from the tourists too. I know about an instance when local people attacked the tourists when they denied to 'invite' them in their picnic!

The river view is ofcourse good but the quality of air you breathe in isn't that great because of the HCL factory beside the river, dumping its waste in the river and its chimney polluting the air.

Nothing...basking on its long list glory..the way to the spot was through the village and was confusing even after following the map. Where we ultimately landed was a dirty dried up riverside with a cremation ghat. It was a rude shock..Didn't even spent 5 mins there, nor clicked any pics, the time spent to reach there was a complete waste.

A local place to hangout near the river. Don’t go into the hotel but checkout the river.
