This has to be one of the most interesting museums I've ever visited. My colleagues and I were destined to have a good time and this one visit would have been enough. if you're even remotely interested in aeronautics and electronics, this is the place. There is so much history about space craft, GPS systems, airplanes, and so much more. The electronic devices is what caught my attention. Technology has advanced so fast in such a short amount of time. I would consider this a true full family edutainment stop.

Absolutely stunning museum. I love everything in here from the space exhibits, planetarium to everything about aviation and cool related exhibits. It’s a large space that will take a long time to go through everything so I recommend splitting the museum into a couple of days if you have the luxury of being in DC for a some time. We spent most of our time ready about Orville and Wilbur Wright and all the cool science related information on flight. There is a great cafe to try at the bottom near one of the gift shops that’s tasty and good for taking a little break from all the wonderful exhibits. The planetarium is great and comfortable as well as informative and looks absolutely amazing when a video about space is being displayed. We got to see this amazing museum on our trip to DC to see the Cherry blossoms bloom and the festival.

An amazing museum. First off let me say that while we were there, the museum was under construction so we weren’t able to explore the museum in its entirety. With that said there is still a ton to see and explore. My suggestion is to soak it all in. Take your time at each exhibit. Read all the signs lol.

The National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., is an absolute marvel that left me in awe from the moment I stepped through its doors. This world-renowned museum is a celebration of humanity's achievements in aviation and space exploration, providing an exhilarating and educational experience that is second to none. The museum's collection is nothing short of spectacular, featuring iconic aircraft, spacecraft, and artifacts that have played pivotal roles in shaping the history of aviation and space travel. From the Wright brothers' historic plane to the Apollo 11 command module, the exhibits offer a tangible connection to the milestones of flight and space exploration. The interactive displays and simulations allow visitors to experience the thrill of piloting a spacecraft or walking on the moon, adding an extra layer of excitement to the educational journey. The IMAX theater further enhances the experience, offering immersive documentaries that bring to life the challenges and triumphs of astronauts and aviators. The museum's commitment to accessibility is commendable, with clear signage, ramps, and elevators ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can fully enjoy the exhibits. The knowledgeable staff members are not only passionate about the subject matter but also eager to share their expertise, making the visit both enriching and engaging. The National Air and Space Museum's central location on the National Mall makes it a convenient and must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike. The admission is free, making it accessible to all, and the gift shop offers a wide array of aviation and space-themed souvenirs. In conclusion, the National Air and Space Museum is a captivating tribute to human ingenuity and exploration. It provides a profound and entertaining experience that appeals to visitors of all ages, making it a cornerstone of educational and cultural enrichment in the heart of our nation's capital. A visit to this museum is not just a journey through the history of flight and space; it's an inspiring celebration of our boundless human spirit.

This museum is amazing! The exhibition is huge, so be sure to spare a whole day for it. You can learn a lot about airplanes, spaceships and so on. The store is also amazing. You can buy a lot of souvenirs (globes, aliens, spaceships, airplanes and so on). I do recommend it.

Great museum. Size of the museum is reasonable and able to tackle all the exhibition in one day. Very clean and easy to walk around. Gift shop was too crowded for me to try to explore but looked interesting.

*November 2022 4 stars because half of the museum is under construction therefore there is limited capacity and TIMED ENTRY TICKETS are required. Tickets are issued in the AM at 8:30 for the same morning and then again in the afternoon. If you don't have one there will be a line outside if no-shows/cancellations happened. If you have limited time check the following: Destination Moon, Wright Brothers, and America by Air. Shuttle not available at this time. Nice gift store with Nasa merchandise on site.

Good place in Washington DC to take 1st timers and kids/young adults of all ages and us adults/elderly. Truly something for all of us to consume and educate ourselves and have fun doing it. What to get and expect? Get free tickets, parking garages not far away, walk a little bit, expect a wait to get in, plenty of food trucks staged outside to tempt you, indoor food court with limited options but serve lunch and they have multiple gift shops on multiple floors. See photos below.

Hands down, one of the best Smithsonians on the mall with a little something for everyone. Open 10-5:30 everyday except Christmas, one must reserve a free timed entry pass for entry - weekdays are better. The exhibitions are amazing - the original Wright brother’s plane, an Apollo capsule, original space suits, aircraft everywhere - even an XWing fighter complete with R2D2. There are daily events and these things called discovery stations - hands on areas where you hold actual meteorites or look at the science of flight - and many many more. They do a story time and they have an amazing planetarium. With a nice shop - like 3 stories, nice cafe, and clean and accessible bathrooms in multiple areas. I really can’t say enough about it and I imagine you will find it the same.

I wish we had gone to the one at Dules Airport. It would have only been a 25 min Subway ride. This was the smaller of the 2 air and space museums and most of it closed for renovation when we went

It was a fun time visiting the Air and Space museum in DC! I’ve been to the one at Dulles but this one is very unique. Attended the special event today and had an amazing time. Highly recommend checking out the museum if you’re ever in the area ✈️

There are a lot of planes. You did a great job. I think it will be the best in the world. The spaceship was so big that I was surprised.

Reserve your spot in advance but don’t expect you can get in. We got there early for our reservation at 4PM on a Wednesday and was told that it is a first come first serve basis because everyone there had a reservation. Then it started to rain heavily, and people sought temporary shelter in front of the doors to stay dry, a natural move. But the security guards instead advised everyone to line up in the rain if they wanted to see the exhibitions at 4pm with no assistance to the ongoing pouring rain. They said it’s a fire hazard and threatened to call security if people aren’t following their unreasonable order to wait in the rain. The staff members also would not even allow you a minute to figure out your plan before heading into the heavy rain. I’m sure the exhibitions are nice and well curated. But people who works there, especially the guards by the entrances, do not care about your well-being. Good luck with your visit.

Went there last night, one would think in a AIR and SPACE Museum of this caliber and status! But in SAID AIR AND SPACE muse'um the was just a bunch of metal bird and some pointy long things... very disappointed I was expecting much more air... and... you know... space! Don't waste your time and money by going inside, just stay outside the parking lot has a ton of space and air as well... 12/83 koalas agree studies show. Kind regards Mahatma Gandhi namaste!

Perfect Sunday afternoon outing! The National Air and Space Museum has something for everyone. Exhibits are spread out enough to provide ample room to not feel crowded. The technology used to tell the stories is up-to-date and relevant to the pieces. The location is immaculately clean. If you're hungry, grab a quick bite at the Mars Café on the lower level. Definitely recommend the mushroom, spinach, and brie flatbread!

The staff was knowledgeable and eager to share insights. The interactive displays added an extra layer of fun, making it an educational experience for all ages. A must-visit for anyone fascinated by space exploration!

Another POI in DC. Interesting facts and historical information about aerospace industry from beginning to the modern days. I wish, one day we will be able to travel much faster, than today… I feel like today our speed was intentionally reduced from what we really can reach. Especially on the freeways 🛣️ 😉.

Pretty cool! I enjoy that there are tactile and auditory exhibits as someone who has ASD. Only downside is that it was crowded enough that I felt I could not really look at everything I wanted to and the entire building smelled like someone’s kid had a dirty diaper.

The museum has recently been refurbished but only half the museum is currently open. You will need to book the tickets to enter in advanced since this is always full and has a smaller capacity at the moment until it opens fully. The planetarium, Moon missions and Space areas are fantastic. And I can’t wait to see the other half of the museum opening.

Mars cafe highly overpriced and they don’t allow to bring your own food. Remodel looks ok but it’s not much better vs the old style

Timed Entry System a Complete Mess! Does not work properly and makes visiting nearly impossible unless you somehow know ahead of time to sign up for this mess. Once inside you will find Two Thirds of the Museum is GONE! Walled off. All the Space Ships and things we wanted to see are GONE! Really this is no longer worth the hassle to see it! This museum was one of the best I have ever been in, this time it is just a mess. They are dishonest about how much of the museum is now gone or off limits. The ENTIRE Space Side is Gone! The Enterprise is Stuck in the corner and only half works! I never could get a good shot of it as it is in the flow for the main entrance! I am so very disappointed in what has become of this museum! They say they are improving it, but many of us only get one or two chances to come here and you shutting down two thirds of the place for years is just harmful and stupid! It was a Beautiful Place and did not need to be tore up and made smaller. Also I tried to get help with issues getting timed tickets and only got back a canned response that did not provide any help! The Smithsonian, a Once Proud Organization has become a bureaucratic mess that is no longer interested in the experience of the citizens! This is very obvious by the Rude Staff that deals with the long line to get in and the convoluted system we are forced to navigate without help! They don't care that this is your 90 year old mothers last shot at Washington DC If there are too many people that need to go in, maybe open at 8 instead of 10 and stay open until 6 instead of closing early at 4! These Bankers Hours are not helping anyone! Come on guys it is not "Rocket Science!" This new Customers Last Policy is Terrible and has destroyed my families Very Special Time in our Nation's Capitol! Thanks a lot for destroying what was once one of the best!

Great and rich museum. Must visit while in Washington DC. It’s free and deserves the time

I really appreciate the free admission to all Smithsonian museums in Washington and every one of them is worth every minute spent inside!

Half of the museum is closed for renovation until 2027; this is the reason for the timed ticket entries. The planetarium wasn’t open either. Some of the staff were great with interesting information to share. The rest of the staff were rude, shouting at people from across the exhibit galleries.

  • 4/5 Caleigh G. 1 year ago on Google
I’m glad they made renovations here, but I would have liked to see some new exhibits too! Definitely one of the best free museums though!

  • 5/5 Damion S. 9 months ago on Google
It has been many years since I last visited and there are is more a wait to get in. While the line was long, it moved very quickly so not something to worry about even if you are stuck a block down from the entrance. It can be crowded once inside, but the exhibits are fantastic. I wish I could come back on a weekday when they might be less busy so I can spend most of the day reading about each exhibit. And it is free to enter, so no reason not to enjoy!

Can anyone explain why it's closed? When it will reopen? This is hands down one of the best museums in DC. Hopefully it'll be reopened in June.

The museum is free and loads of fun. You do need to register online for entry. Be prepared to stand in line for timed entry. Great planetarium, cost is $9/adult and $7 for kids. It's definitely worth it.

Very interesting place. It give a great overview from the first flight to moon landing to mars landings. The entrance is free, but an online form has to filled out to book the time slot, i would recommend to plan in advance and booking the time slot to save the time. There is also an eatry in the basement. The ground floor also have restrooms and water bottle filling points.
