Neat place. I like how they have it such that the nocturnal creatures are active during the day

Beautiful animals. Good information about their conservation status and biology. I was really surprised for the good job they did with the environments for animals like the mole.

The Small Mammal House at the free DC zoo is a charming and compact exhibit that houses a delightful collection of furry creatures. Despite its size, it offers an intimate encounter with a variety of small mammals, including adorable meerkats, curious hedgehogs, and playful squirrel monkeys. Very fun exhibit. All the animals here are very cute and lively. Several of the displays of nocturnal mammals have the lighting inverted so that visitors can see them during the day. There was a line when I visited to enter, but it was quick.

An eclectic cross of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars creatures await you here. Fantastic furry and fun mini mammals throughout this well laid out set of zoo exhibits. From meerkats to mini-monkeys there are surprises and splendor around every corner. There are lots of nooks and crannies loaded with strange and wonderful creatures.

Great experience, though a little crowded, it was well worth dealing with the crowds for the close encounters with these cute mini mammals 😀

The zoo is a fun place to walk around with beautiful landscaping. However, the small animals are in tiny enclosures that I find upsetting.

The the cuteness meter. Lots of fun, furry critters jumping around. Full of small children on end of year field trips today so it was exactly peaceful!

My favorite spot in the Zoo. Too bad it gets too crowded. Try going early, at least by 10 am or so. People try to rush you but if the Sand Cat or the Fennec Fox are still hiding, wait on the bench (don't get out or you have to make a line again) and check when they are going to be fed.

Fascinating collection of small mammals. Not as many as I would have expected from a national zoo

This zoo’s animal enclosures are entirely too small. These animals have hardly any room to do anything in these enclosures. I walked into the small mammal house and these poor animals are just walking into walls after a couple of steps . The sandcat was pacing back and fourth with no where to hide from humans and no privacy . These animals look miserable. It is nice to be able to see these animals up close and to learn about them but the health of these animals can not be good with these conditions. Most of the animals looks miserable.

I love the Fennec Foxes. Whether they’re running around or sleeping, they’re always fun to watch. The Small Mammal House is truly the most underrated exhibit in the Zoo and the Fennecs are their most underrated Critters, in my opinion.

BEST HOUSE IN THE ZOO!!! Forget the pandas, come see the SMH (Small Mammal House)! Wide variety of species and beautiful exhibits. Their staff/keepers are the best in the business. They do "meet a mammal" twice a day which allows for visitors to get up close and personal with several cute animals out in the public viewing areas. AMAZING FOR KIDS and adults who love/appreciate animals. It's also very close to the B parking lot. They just received 3 new Wallabies (small Kangaroos) in their outside boardwalk exhibit! You can park strollers safely outside the front door (to the right) and spend hours walking around (inside) watching dozens of incredible animals. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Lots of...ummm... small mammals. Many of them are hidden from view but the ones you can see are pretty fascinating.
