The tree is more than 300 years old and located nearby NH275 between Mysuru and T Narasipura. It's believed that during Tippu Sultan's regime, soldiers used to rest under this tree. Nearby village people believe that Sri Muneshwara Swami resides there. If you are visiting, avoid having slippers and go under the tree . These days people are not keeping it clean. Please keep the place clean if you are visiting this tree.πŸ™‚

Probably one of the largest trees in the country, this β€˜heritage’ banyan tree (Dodda aladamara) located on T. Narasipur Road near Varuna tank is nothing short of a celebrity. People from surrounding areas and neighboring districts are arriving in hordes to watch and picture nature’s wonder. During the Dasara celebrations, the place received the maximum number of tourists. However, the tree is now facing a threat as people who visit it are cutting the aerial roots.

The big banyan you see in the pictures below is on Highway 766 on the way to Suttur Sri Kshetra near Mysuru, Karnataka, India. The distance from.the CBD is about 10 kms .The board near the tree says that the tree is Ficus Bengalasis. On applying the formula for calculating the approximate age by taking the circumference of the tree 5 to 6 feet from the ground ,the age might be between 110 to 120 years .One can see tourists breaking the commute for lunch and many college students sitting under the tree relaxing .A little further ( 2 kms ) will take you to the Varuna Lake where Paddle boats and steam boats are the main attraction .

This Big Banyan Tree stands Tall alone, branches spread all arround like a giant. Roots hanging around for ready to swing on. And branches touching the ground to embrace one and all. You can request the Tree for permission to climb on high branches above.

Beautiful massive tree which is located right next to the State highway if you are traveling from Mysore to Talakadu. Why 3 stars? Coz the place is not maintained well. Lot of trash around the tree mainly from tourists who visit. Please take back your trash.
