The Bhoothathankettu dam is really a good tourist spot in Ernakulam district. ** Behind the name - The old people here believed that the dam was build was monsters ( bhootham ) and thus the name. * Now the vehicle transport through the dam is restricted because of the new bridge parallel to the dam. The view of the dam ( when the shutter is opened ) from the new bridge is quite a view. * Old times there were no entry fee to see the dam. But now if you are deviating to the dam road from the park the there will be entry ticket.

One of the most Beautifully constructed Dams in God's own country. It's a very big dam and a tourist spot in Ernakulam district. This dam is situated in the edamalayar forest division. It is about 10km away from kothamangalam. There is an old natural dam that is supported by a modern dam. We can explore the forest after getting permission pass from the forest department. It is like small trekking through the beautiful jungle. Long ago large round rocks were put to block the Periyar river and which is known as a "kett" made by a "Bootham".You can visit a children's park there. It's an awesome place to be at with family for picnic. Nice and calm place. It drives into the forest and the chances of ending up seeing wild elephants are more. The drive to the dam is also beautiful, with canals and pastures all around. The best time would be during the rainy season which would add up to the extraordinary beauty of the place. The overflow water of bhoothathankettu dam is flowing through the Oonjapara Aqudate situated at Kothamangalam,keerempara.There is park on the side of the dam which not currently working. A parallel road path is built on side of the dam. During rainy season the dam will be filled with water. A security check post is also there.The painting and renovation works are proceeding now

A good restaurant is a must there since there is no a good one. Easily accessible from anywhere and its not much crowded these days. Boat staff are really friendly and helpful. From ernakulam, the best way to go to kothamangalam, is to take the kolanchery route. Bhudathankettu and thattekkattu bird sanctuary are the two main attractions for a tourist. Bhudathankettu is outside the village of pindimana and approximately ten kilometres from kothamangalam town. Almost fifty kilometres from ernakulam and the road leading to the spot is good.

The dam is surrounded by lush greenery and is built across the Periyar River. It's a popular spot for nature lovers and offers a serene environment..There is an entry ticket for checkin to the dam . The old boothankettu dam is nearby the new bridge over the river. You need to trek through the forest for around 700m to reach the view point. An entry ticket of 50rs charged for adults and also you can avail guide if needed

Nyc view, there is a park outside the dam. It will be entertaining for kids. The dam was beautiful, very calming.

Lovely place. Do walk around the place. Beautiful walkway on the dam as well near boating area. Swing on those hanging tyres and that long swing! Boating experience too is nice with forest both sides. Keep 2 hrs to enjoy.

The road to Edamalyar was closed due to Elephants July2019 .We reached their by 6pm and left by 8 pm.Very silent and safe, we spent time near the dam side. The lighting and surroundings are neat and safe. Good hotel and food is available at kothamangalam(12km away from here) Boating, light house, Park is up to 6.30pm. Very nice, safe place for kids and family.

It's a good place if you don't love crowds. We went on a weekday and it was very quite. A children's park is nearby. We searched for a tea shop in the park; but for vain. For adults, the entry fee to the Children's Park is Rs.10/- only. The main disadvantage we found was with finding a decent restaurant. Though KTDC has a restaurant, it just had Chappathi to serve for lunch. Most Malayalis prefer rice to Chappathi for lunch. Though boating was available, spending Rs.1500/- for a family of 3 or 4 adults for 1 hr is not really worth. They do have pedal boats which was not so costly.
