This is a "must visit" place, if you are visiting Madurai. A short drive from the city gets you there. The museum is newly opened and much effort has been taken to give you a modern day method to experience normal life many centuries ago, in this region. The introductory AV program, the many segments of the museum that keep you captivated - even the architecture as well as the floor tiles used here, add an authentic and tasteful touch to your experience. A few observations - a lift was not working, in the final exhibit hall, the attenders were content to just sit and gape - they could be trained to interact with the visitors for a fee, the canteen was just partially functioning - cool drinking water is a must. Great initiative that should be monitored and run professionally so that the present new, attractive look is maintained .

If you are interested in Archeology and interested in understanding the evolution of Tamils history and civilization, this is a must visit place. Especially if you are a Tamil speaking person. Amazing to know how advanced ancient Tamil civilization was. The museum explains various aspects of ancient civilization by pottery, textiles, iron tools, life style etc. The entire complex is so beautifully designed and gives a heritage feel. They also have a small canteen to buy water and traditional snacks. The display of excavated articles along with detailed descriptions help us understand their usage and origin.

Wow, what a museum created by Tamilnadu gov. I heartily appreciate them for keeping the tradition and advanced technologies together to get the proper information for kids to elders too. Have an entry fee of 15 for adults 10 for kids and 5 for students . There are T point and washroom facilities for all visitors.

Keezhadi (also as Keeladi) excavation site is a Sangam age settlement that is being excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India and the Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department. This site is located 12 km southeast of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, near the town of Keezhadi in Sivagangai district. It comes under the Thiruppuvanam Taluk of Sivagangai district. This is a large-scale excavation carried out in Tamil Nadu after the Adichanallur archaeological site. The settlement lies on the bank of the Vaigai River and it reflects the ancient culture of Tamil people.Epigraphist V. Vedachalam, who served as a domain expert for the excavation, dated the excavated remains between 3rd century BCE and 3rd century CE.

Keezhadi Museum in Madurai is a true gem, offering a captivating journey into the ancient Tamil culture. The diverse collection of 2600-year-old artifacts, including stone jewelry, pots, weapons, and the discovery of a new Tamil script, makes it a must-visit. The palace-like architecture further elevates the overall experience. Highly recommended!

Museum Review: Keeladi Museum Location: Keeladi, Tamil Nadu, India Presentation: The museum's exhibits are well-organized and beautifully presented, with clear and informative labels. The artifacts are displayed in glass cases, and there are informative panels and videos that explain the significance of the Keeladi site and its findings. The museum also features a replica of an excavated house from the Keeladi site, giving visitors a glimpse into what life may have been like during that time. Overall, Keeladi Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Tamil history and archaeology. The museum's exhibits are fascinating, informative, and beautifully presented, and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

Loved the place. It was so clean and spacious with awesome collections of keeladi Tamil civilization. Got to view rare and historical pieces, scripts, paintings and much more. Especially there is a theatre which films the way keeladi's history and the tamilians era were found. Tickets are very less in order to pave way for all people to look into the museum. Overall a must visit place specifically for all Tamilians to enjoy and nuture the culture of the ancestors

One of the must visit place. The facts and findings will be informative and interesting. The short film facility is also worth spending our time. Entry fee charged - Rs. 15 for adults and Rs. 10 for children Cleanly maintained environment Most people suggested it will be closed on public holidays but we were able to visit the museum on May 1st. We contacted them to confirm and we received timely response.

A soothing place for adults and kids will enjoy too. Awesome maintenance by the archeological department. The video they play in the theatre was so informative and inspirational. The staffs are very approachable and friendly and the canteen snacks are so hygienic and tasty. The way they displayed the findings from keeladi excavation made me awestruck. I will surely give 10/10 to this beautiful place. I could suggest that it would be great if there are some more things like model of madurai fort and hills around Madurai.

The museum, a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA), is likely to be inaugurated by Chief Minister M K Stalin in the next couple of months. The plan for now, according to sources in the government, is to display the majority of over 11,000 artefacts that have been unearthed at Keeladi by the TNSDA since it took over the excavations in 2017. Antiquities found by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) between 2014 and 2016 will also be showcased at the museum. Spread over an area of 30,000 square feet, the museum will have six display halls – only ground floor in three, two with mezzanine floors and one with mezzanine and first floor – and an auditorium where visitors will be treated to documentaries on excavations in Keeladi and their significance.

Great museum with all the artifacts found in the keeladi excavations. Well maintained. A must visit for tamil people. Avoid visiting on Fridays since the place will be crowded with school children. PS: Museum opens exactly at 10AM. Visit the museum before visiting the archeological site.

Absolutely wonderful place. Hats off to governments initiative in preserving and pushing the heritage of Tamizhnadu by 2600 years. Feeling proud as I did visit Keeladi in 2020 and 2021 and now finally saw the artifacts worn and used by people back then

A must visit for any Tamilian. Only downside was when we were there, there was frequent powercut. I request concerned authorities to add proper power backup, so that visitors can get a better experience of this amazing place.

Exploring the Keeladi museum was truly captivating. Witnessing our rich history and Tamil heritage was an amazing experience. Hailing from Usilampatti, I felt a deep connection, realizing the ancient roots of our culture. The museum hinted at the vast history yet to be unveiled from this land. A visit that left me in awe of our heritage's depth and significance.

Good concept and give a small peek into the new excavations in keezhadi. The building architecture is lovely. But the museum could be so much better. For a start please add a souvenir and book shop which could sell material related to the excavation. The material presented is minimal and needs at least some improvement to be considered a serious museum. Please also start guided tours.

I have heard so much about Keeladi and when I got the opportunity I didn't want to miss seeing it. I first went to the excavation site and then visited this museum. It's beautiful and well maintained. This is a must see place if you visit Madurai. Keep 2-3 hours time to visit this place.

Pros: It’s a must place to visit to know about our tamil heritage and culture. Place was well maintained. They have a small cafe where you can get some hot and cold beverages. I would recommend Paruthipal milk. They do have a horse ride for which they charge Rs 50. Cons: Only thing is the employees don’t have interest on explaining about the various collections in the museum as they will just sit and look into their mobile phones. If the government arranges a guide who can explain about the historical information which will be very helpful for the visitors with a minimal charges.

The design and construction of the building are impressive. However, during rain, water accumulates in the walker path, causing inconvenience. In case of a power outage, there is no backup, leaving the entire area without lights.

A Timeless Experience at Keeladi Museum - A Jewel of History and Culture I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Keeladi Museum with my family, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. The architectural of the museum is something everyone will enjoy. The way the exhibits are laid out is a clear indication of the meticulous effort and thought put into every aspect of this cultural haven. From the houses to the muthams (traditional courtyards), the attention to detail is impeccable. The lighting, the pillar designs, the window patterns, and the overall aesthetic create an immersive experience that transports you back in time. It’s a mesmerizing journey through history, and we savored every minute spent there. However, our experience was somewhat hampered by an unexpected power shutdown that lasted the entire day. This was particularly disappointing as it restricted our access to the museum’s digital experiences, which we were eagerly looking forward to. The digital interactions are an integral part of the museum, enhancing the understanding and enjoyment of the exhibits. In light of this, I would like to suggest that the museum management consider coordinating power shutdowns with museum holidays. This would greatly benefit visitors, especially those who travel great distances, ensuring they can fully experience all that the museum has to offer without such interruptions. It will be wonderful to have a museum shop to take some memory back. Despite this minor setback, the visit to the Keeladi Museum was a truly unforgettable experience. It stands not just as a museum but as a testament to the rich history and culture it represents. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates history, art, and the journey through time. The Keeladi Museum is a must-visit destination, offering an unparalleled glimpse into the past.

Nice place to explore and know about the Sangam age Tamil way of life, their tools, ornaments etc. Artifacts are neatly organized. The place is maintained well and tidy too. There is a small canteen for refreshments. Not all halls are air-conditioned (no fans either) which made the hot summer afternoon visit very uncomfortable. The museum halls are not manned all the time and visitors are touching artifacts that are not covered / within a retractable barrier. Parking is limited but vehicles can be parked along the road. Could see many double parked cars too. More parking space is required it seems.

Good initiative to showcase the excavated items of our history. Wonderful architecture and planning. Displays could have been better with clean Glass and bigger fonts. ‘Do not Touch’ signs could help. Staff needs more training on visitor management.
