Great hotel, just one major design flaw with the rooms. There is a window in the shower with no curtain that lets light into the bathroom (and thus the bedroom as the bathroom doors have clear windows on them) every morning at sunrise. Service at the hotel is outstanding, buffet is great, rooms are comfortable, but getting woken up at 6am every morning because my room was bright with sunlight really put a damper on the stay as a tired traveler. This was true in each room I stayed in and kind of a joke as there are black out shades on the main windows in the room. Hope they can think through fixing this design flaw, pretty glaring error.

Location: in the alley next to the nightclub, so if you are a female staying there alone make sure you come back to the hotel before it’s dark out. Room: we were upgraded to business room because of our Marriott status, however the room was TOO HOT. I contacted them ahead of time asking for a room with 21C temperature, I expressed my concerns that I read the reviews and people mentioned hot rooms, they said “no problem mam, we have fixed it since the reviews”. However, when we arrived it was a problem. We changed rooms, still a problem. Central controlled AC, that does not cool the room below 24C. It was hot, and yes like a sauna, just like other reviewers mentioned. Shower leaked in every room we stayed, because of the design, I had to use 2 towels to keep it from flooding the whole bathroom. Breakfast was good. Restaurant staff was nice and polite. Front desk was polite and nice, but lazy. When we requested taxi with AC, instead of calling taxis with AC they had only one response: “Mam, there are no taxis with AC in Nepal”. However, we arrived to the hotel on taxi with AC, and later after confronting the front desk they magically found taxis with AC. Bottom line, this hotel is used to a constant flow of business travelers, mainly Asian and Indian. They don’t put any effort in fixing issues, because they always have customers that are loyal to the “Marriott”brand. We were those customers, and we were very disappointed. We found a different locally owned hotel in Boudha area 3 times cheaper with perfectly working AC, on call AC taxis, nice caring front desk and normal shower. So really, it’s not that Nepal doesn’t have AC, it’s lazy hotel staff.

It was pretty bad. The shower leaked, the water wasn’t hot and it’s impossible to put the ac lower than 24C. They will say it’s just your room but each room is not in control of the ac. It’s only standardized with the hotel. Couldn’t sleep because I was so hot felt like a sauna. Definitely not worth the price. The hostel I stayed in was much much better for much lower price. Definitely would not recommend.

At Reception the staff is not that helpful. Rooms are very small. They have a policy of no extra bed . So travelling with child and staying in here will be very troublesome. Not Pocket friendly . The locks of the room not working properly, we have to ask the staff to open it from outside and they finally have to break the lock to open it. Digital locks Hazards Dining area Nice place. Food not that tasty.

The stay is well & neat managed. But considering the room size only a 4 Feet skinny person can sleep or stay in the room properly. Also the receptionist might keep you waiting for an hour to allot the room even after prior reservation and ask for extra charges for priority.

Last day of our stay when we were checking out, we asked the hotel one night in advance to pack our breakfast because we had senior citizens and small children in our family. Hotel did gave us pack dry breakfast like only idli without any sauces or chutney etc. We asked for tea and milk for the kid the hotel denied that first u can't have it and second if u will have it than we will charge u. Breakfast was already set by 6:10 but we were not allowed to have anything. That's really a bad service from such a reputed big brand. This wasnt the first time I stayed in Marriott property but this one gave me a very bad experience.

Visited the brand new Japanese restaurant. Felt like I was in Japan! Excellent decor, great food & service. Loved their enthusiasm to raise the bar for delicious Japanese cuisine in the city.

We stayed here prior to our EBC trek and after the 10 day trek. The property is very convenient in location and comfortable. The rooms are a bit tight in lay out but the service is above and beyond. The moment you walk in the security guards salute you, open the door and welcome you with a warm smile. Check out is simple and seamless and they instantly offer you a refreshing fresh drink that is a great touch. The Kava restaurant is a great place to have all your meals if you choose but we opted for just the breakfast and they offered so much variety fresh and then some. They even made to order Dosa, Uthappam, omelettes or pancakes. Service at Kava or the hotel was exceptional. We had a minor a/c issue that they tried fixing but when they couldn’t they switched our rooms instantly. Kudos on your amazing service.

The hotel is in a location where you have access to the main city and several restaurants. And staff was very friendly and the food was good. I've given only 2 stars for the rooms as many other reviews have stated, rooms are extremely hot even with the lowest temperature on the Air Conditioning. And honestly the outside of the room was much cooler than the inside.

Rooms are very small in size Front office staff told me that there are no suite rooms available in that hotel, when I asked for upgrade. Being a platinum member they made me to wait more than three hours instead of considering the early check in request by my prior mail Restaurant ambience is good Didn’t bother to send the luggage to room till I follow up the matter

Clean and convenient. There is a refregirator in the room, and I had a complimentary drink service. Services are comfortable and very attentive. A breakfast buffet has a variety of food.

This is the best Marriott hotel I have ever been - much better than those luxurious one because it has the most incredible nice and helpful staff ( the front desk and restaurant staff team as well as chefs especially the head chef). The food is amazing, the hotel is hosting it’s Chinese New Year theme including the food, they are very delicious! Hats off to the chefs! Had a very lovely 4 nights stay, incredible experience and I wouldn’t expect my 3 meals were most of the time did in the hotel - the only reason is that they are so delicious. Will definitely come back to see those warm smiley faces next time when I visit Nepal.

Maybe it's old or not well maintained, the rooms and bed are small, photos look better but in real the hotel is just average nothing great, as per cost per night it's a bit on a higher side. I would not come back again as I prefer the mariiott Kathmandu over this Fairfield hotel

Luxurious hotel on east side of the Thamel neighbourhood in Kathmandu. Easy walkable distance to cafes, restaurants and shops. Two inside restaurants of which one also serves as breakfast lounge. Friendly staff. Good view of city on higher floors. Rooms are clean and well equiped we loved the shower. Would fully recommend this hotel.

  • 5/5 Arturo F. 8 months ago on Google
Sparkling clean, friendly service, and comfortable. Of course, priced higher than the regular hotels in Thamel. But if you appreciate a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, you will not mind paying for it. Location is great, on a quieter road about 5 minutes walking from the busy Thamel street. The staff is absolutely brilliant 👏🏻

Exceptional Staff, Outstanding Dining Experience! Our experience at Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a team of incredibly warm and compassionate staff members who made our stay truly memorable. Even when we encountered a minor hiccup with our room keys, the room-service staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. They noticed our predicament and promptly contacted the front desk on our behalf, resulting in a swift resolution. Their attentiveness and quick response were greatly appreciated. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the exceptional service at Kava restaurant. Chef Shivaram and his incredible service team, including Suhas, Sameer, Sanjana, Manoj, Bina, Khem, Umesh, and Prateek, exceeded all our expectations. They consistently went the extra mile to make our dining experience truly special. What stood out even more was the chef's willingness to create custom dishes for us during breakfast, showcasing their dedication to customer satisfaction. In all our travels, we have rarely encountered a staff as remarkable as the one at Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu. Their exceptional service and genuine warmth made our stay unforgettable. If you're looking for a hotel with the best staff you'll ever encounter, this is the place to be. We can't wait to return!

I had a great experience at this hotel. Nice location in Thamel. Service was great. In particular, service provided by Riya. She helped us to book an attraction that we want to see and she was always helping everyone in our group. Near to convenience store and currency exchange sevice.

The room is given 4 stars because the rooms were small. There is a common light for the bathroom as there were no separate switches in the bathroom. The moment I switch on the bathroom all the lights get ON and at night sleep gets disturbed because of the light. We took a package with dinner and breakfast. There was no buffet available hence we were given the menu to order anything. For the first day we liked it but the remaining days it became boring due to no buffet. Not all bad. The staff was very supportive. Co-operative. Navaraj was very helpful as he gave early check in morning 10.30 when the actual check in time @15.00hrs. Breakfast was amazing and a very nice team to take care of our requirements

The hotel location is slightly in the interior of Thamel area. But once you enter the hotel, it's absolutely amazing. The reception staff, from supervisor Sunita to the trainees, are very professional. The rooms are a bit smaller in size though but are very tidy, spotless clean. Thanks to the House keepers, specifically the team of Swostika and Surksha. The restaurant serves a very lavish breakfast, and a very good variety for lunch and dinner. I wish to come back again to enjoy the place for a longer vacation. God bless all.

Recently stayed there for 5 nights. Amazing hotel, staffs are extremely helpful and are always with a charming smile. Lots of positive vibes from the staffs. I loved the food too. Location is in Thamel, and around you have lots of shopping areas, cafes etc. yet the hotel is far from noise. I had a very relaxing stay. Will surely come back.

We booked our stay here, rooms are decent enough just for two , a well utilized smaller space for bathroom, good ambience, nicer people all around. Very welcoming, food is ok with complimentary breakfast available. Overall a good hotel.

Everyone at the hotel was so nice and accommodating. Thank you especially to Laxmi for accommodating our room change from a double bed to two twin beds. We were also given a late checkout with no issue. Thank you for the Christmas treats as well!

We relished the food and service at their restaurant. We ordered a variety of items— from traditional Nepalese to North Indian. Everything was very flavorful. Also, the service was top class. We will visit again.

It is a good business hotel, staff is very friendly and courteous . However there are lot of cons 1. The view from our room was absolutely pathetic .The rooms are also very small.Do not take rooms on the 4th floor, renovation work is going on in outside area. 2. Breakfast does not have much of a option, it is standard Indian breakfast and few other items and same on almost all days. Most of the Marriot hotels have large dessert option, here that also is very limited. The breakfast time is over at 10.30 am and they clear off everything by 10.45 am. If you are late and item is finished then they do not replenish it ie limited quantity is being prepared. However , there are few items like pancakes, dosa, uttappam which can be ordered. 3. Pickup and Drop from Airport is very expensive, arrange from outside. 4. No swimming pool. 5. Narrow street in front of Hotel( it is situated in a by lane ). Only one vehicle can pass at a time 6. Room service option is also very limited Pro”s 1. Courteous and polite staff. 2. Quick service 3. The hotel is situated near street markets so shopping can be done on foot.

Lovely location. But the best aspect of this hotel are the unbelievably friendly and helpful staff - right from the security guards to the front office staff, servers, housekeeping staff - every single one of them. Keeps us going back again and again.

We got an excellent price on the room, and it was a perfect fit for our needs. One night before our trek and a couple of nights after. I'm vegan and the chef (Teepak) helped make a couple of things for me, which made lunch and dinner easier

I was here for a party and the food as you would expect was amazing as well as the service. The dinner service was amazing with a lot of varieties but the desserts were kind of limited so I missed out on some cakes otherwise the overall experience was amazing.

Room looks very congested otherwise okay. Staffs behaviour is good. They should give some complimentary item like comb, soap, slippers etc. But food is too expensive. Recommendations to stay tgere except having to take tgeir food due to too expense. Tgeir complimentary breakfast is good enough. Good to go Guys.

The first night I found my room to be cold in December. Housekeeping promptly provided blankets when requested, in addition, I was given a space heater for the duration of my stay. The hotel is blocks away from the busy shopping center, and the distance meant a quiet stay. The front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly and accommodating, providing suggesting for further things to see and freely sharing life in the city. I’d recommend this city hotel for its cleanliness, quiet location and accommodating staff.

As other reviews mention, the staff really make this hotel. We were there during national elections, so we got to know the staff who were there for their double shifts- they were wonderful! As for the hotel - the breakfast is lovely and delicious. The rooms are comfortable, but definitely showing wear and tear, and not as clean as they could be (but still pretty clean!). Our keys kept demagnetizing which was pretty annoying, but the staff took great care of us. Overall, a good place to stay for a couple days when arriving to Kathmandu. Location was great, with key sights walkable. There are good restaurants nearby - we especially liked Dechenling Garden Restaurant which is just down the street.

Fairfield by Marriott is one of my preferred brand when traveling, and I was not disappointed at all. The rate including breakfast is amazingly reasonable, and the breakfast buffet offers a variety of options. One should ask servers what they can make back in the kitchen because I have seen many wonderful dishes coming out. My dining experience was superb, but the house cleaning staff members are always smiling and willing to help. Oh, and I should not forget the room service! A wide variety of dishes are available, and I was very happy with my lunches. The front desk staff and security guards up in front are always available and help you. I would definitely come back here!!
