A beautiful structure. Definitely worth my time and the walk to go see it. There were several merchants set up around the perimeter of the building selling clothes, food and other items. It's nice to see so many small vendors working so hard to make ends meet for their families. Though I'm not a Muslim, I have deep respect for the belief system, especially among those who practice the beliefs so faithfully. I've seen many mosques in United Arab Emirates and all of them have unique and beautiful features. LDS temples are similar, with lots of symbolic testimony inscribed around the outside and within. I hope to go visit the Hindu Holy Temple in Nairobi tomorrow to get some pictures as well, before I head back home this weekend.

Spacious, clean and well ventilated. One of the oldest mosques in the city. Very well maintained and is a community mosque. Has a library as well as the horizon TV station and has a revert program almost daily plus multiple charity programs. Was interesting taking a tour around this mosque and meeting the staff of jamia mosque. Enjoyed the experience

Jamia Mosque is a mosque located on Banda Street, Nairobi, Kenya in the Central Business District. The mosque is one of Kenya's most prominent religious structures, and the most important mosque in the country. It was founded and first built by Syed Maulana Abdullah Shah between 1902 and 1906. He was a very pious man and up to today he is remembered every year by Muslims. The Mosque has been extended since its original construction. The Current Chairman Of Jamia Mosque Committee and the MajlisAlUlama Of Kenya is Sheikh Syed Fathahuddin Thangal. The Jamia Mosque retains a classic Arabic Muslim architectural style with extensive use of marble and inscriptions from the Quran, and the traditional row of shops (including a clinic and pharmacy) down one side to provide rental income for its upkeep. It is recognisable by its 3 silver domes, and two twin minarets. It contains a library and a training institute where one can learn Arabic, introductory computing and cloth making.

One of the oldest, largest and grandest mosques in Nairobi. Or Kenya, for that matter. Has expanded and modernised over the years to include a library and learning centre. Prayer and ablution facilities for males and females available. Halal eateries available around the mosque.

I love this place because of two reasons 1. It's location - it is easily accessible and it is one of the tallest structures in the area. 2. It's capacity can accommodate a large of numbers people. If you're a Muslim and you live around this area then this the best place to pray to Allah. Security is excellent, environment is clean and friendly

Very clean and good aircon as well. The only thing is the toilets. Even though, there are many toilets, but there are no toilet shoes or may be very few and one pair was too slippery which can cause unnecessary injuries. The built in toilet seats are old fashioned and could be replaced.

Wonderful mosque to be and visit that's open to all faiths, the architecture is a mixture of the 19th and 20th century Combined with different amenities from prayer halls, library, college and multipurpose hall. The mosque has an annual open day that's normally popularized so that other faith get to know mosques and the Islamic faith. Welcome to Islam and Jamia.

This is a famous landmark in the Nairobi CBD, it has been the place of prayer for generations of Muslims working or living around the CBD, it is used by the high and mighty as well as ordinary citizens. If you are looking for bureau de change, dates and other snacks associated with Muslims, phones as well as books and tourist materials, you can visit this area as well. If you are interest in Arabian cuisine you can also get it around this mosque.

Jamia mosque is the biggest mosque in Nairobi and in Kenya general. It can accommodate more 8000 congregation during its peak hour. Friday is the busiest day, more than 12000 come for pray. During this time, many Muslims pray outside the building. They filled the road to the capacity. One thing I like about the jamia is that mosque is always clean, accessible and the ablutions areas are well organized and positioned. In addition, it has good sanitation facilities which are adequate in numbers and it's cleaned after every prayers.

Well, my major concern is the neighborhood of the mosque, very unfriendly; a lot of "chokoras" litter the place, muggers, pickpocket and the menace of matatu tauts. To say the least the surrounding is chaotic, noisy and crowded.

It was difficult for my wife to enter the mosque because women are only allowed at certain times. This is in direct contradiction to the teachings of Islam. May Allah correct the leaders of this mosque to give women equal access to the mosque like the Prophet Muhammad did for his congregations.
