I discovered that gikomba aka gikosh is not only a place where one can get second hand clothes and shoes, but a whole lot more including houseware such as crockery and cutlery as well as Christmas decorations.

The market is a conglomeration of various business within one locality. Famously known for second hand clothes but all other items can be found here. It's also known for the fish market with a new block put up recently for fresh fish

It is one of the best places to purchase second hand items, especially clothing and shoes. Most items come at a bargain, but only those with innate haggling skills get the best outcomes. Some of the best items are found at the entrance, but at the highest prices in the market. The price reduce as you significantly move away from the entrance. The place might be a bit muddy in the rainy season, but still accessible - one can also hire gumboots or have their shoes washed after one is done. Overall, the place is for seasoned individuals and would not recommend for 'soft' individuals.

Awesome place filled with affordable clothing, foodstuff, household items etc. The downside is that it's usually packed with heavy foot traffic, noisy, public vans etc. You ought to know what's being sold where or have a dealer as your contact person for better navigation and guidance inside Gikomba. It's a good place for affordable and quality stuff.

This place contain almost everything you need at an affordable price. The issue with this place high population and order of selling item some are very cautious while for those hawking you have to be very careful since interaction with many might encourage spread of this scourge for the level of how that are handling this illness is really low

A variety of businesses from different sectors are gathered together at the market. Known for its used clothing, but you may find anything else here as well. It is also well-known for its fish market, which recently added a new building to accommodate fresh seafood.

Best prices for second-hand clothes, curtains, bedding...the list is endless. If you have an eye for quality, you can spot unique pieces in excellent condition. You just need time. Keep your belongings close since pick pockets are always looking to see if you're distracted, especially when buyers crowd together to allow vehicles to pass.

The famous flea market. From clothes to shoes to food stuff to textiles it has it all at prices you won't get anywhere else that's also if you are good at bargaining. Only downside is if you are unfamiliar with it it's not ideal because you can easily get lost.

Probably the Best open air market in the country.you can get anything you want here. Would have rated a 5star , but the place is overun by rogue street children, and may not be so safe for a market especially in the wee hours of morning and evenings. I think the government should do something on the bisiness stalls since the stalls are not so nice to look at. All in all, its a pretty good place

So chaotic...I mean, what do you expect from a market?💁‍♀️ Needs street smart people who know how to walk briskly all through the market and only stop when you find something of your interest. But good prices for relatively good stuff.

Very very crowded. No social distancing at all. Most people are wearing masks on their chins or none at all.Stay alert and keep watch of your personal belongings. Would definitely not advise anyone to go there at the moment unless absolutely necessary. Also don't carry fancy stuff, make sure you look as basic as possible, maybe wear a jeans and simple t-shirt and rubber shoes. Most item prices depend on how you look and your bargaining skills. I visited this area on a weekend in mid December, at this time most prices have been hiked due to the Christmas season so I would also recommend for people to visit when there are no holidays around the corner. There's definitely a good variety of all kinds of items depending on what it is you're looking for, food, clothes, household items at cheaper prices compared to what you would have been charged at the shop. Keep in mind that these are second hand items too but you can find really good pieces at incredible prices so you just need to be on the look out and have some patience. Overall quite a tiring experience.

Gikomba is a multipurpose and largely open air market. I doubt if there is anything you will not find in this place, from foodstuffs to building materials and furniture. However, the place is crowded and I don't advise visiting during the rainy season unless you got boots. Still, the only place in Nairobi where everything is extremely affordable.

Nice place to get Ex-UK China and American second hand goods. Fresh Vegetables fish and so forth... practically you can get aosta any stuff you want at a bargain. If you're business oriented best place to kick start it. Although be careful of your bags lots of pickpockets

  • 4/5 Sally K. 1 year ago on Google
It's a nice market for second hand stuff...clothes mostly but kitchen utensils, shoes, even books. There are also hotels and a thriving fish market for cooked, raw and salted fish. The prices are affordable and there's always wiggle room. There is however a heavy foul stench of poorly disposed fish and inside the market there are mud pools so it's advisable to wear boots or gumboots. Overall there isn't much that you wouldn't find here if you don't mind searching.

  • 4/5 kevin t. 2 years ago on Google

Versatile and nice prices 😅🤣 Just find the right shop and you'll not regret. Just be steady and avoid crafty people. Protect your goods, I think you should be knowing this right now

  • 4/5 Juma M. 1 year ago on Google
You need something at a very subsided price? Well, this is the place you've been looking for. As much as things are cheaper here your property safety is on your own hands. You can easily lose your stuffs here and with lose I mean getting stolen. One thing, don't buy from those guys selling along the street, they normally add there own price, just walk to a stall and buy from there. Another trick, don't go here wearing very expensive clothes or watches, you'll definitely get over priced 😂😂😂😂

  • 3/5 Dismus O. 1 year ago on Google
A large open market from where you can buy anything from second hand clothing as well as new ones to furniture, timber, tools, fish, and everything in between. The downside of the market is that it is congested and some sellers display their items everywhere including on pathways, carriers pushing hand carts also fight for their space. As you shop or window-shop, be careful.

Gikomba Market is also a wholesale market for in-store shopping located in Kamukunji Road, Nairobi City, Kenya. Gikomba is the largest and most famous flea market for thrift shopping in Kenya. The market is congested, with narrow paths, heaps of clothes, and loud vendors marketing their goods.

  • 4/5 Makau E. 1 year ago on Google
Everything is available in many varieties. Good not to settle on an item quickly, especially costlier ones. Also beware of 'fakes'.

  • 3/5 Emmanuel T. 1 year ago on Google
Vast with variety of market products especially clothings, shoes, beddings from New to Camera Mtumba. Great market area, challenge noted is when it rains expect to be somehow muddy on the feet, but you'd always meet guys happy and willing to wipe you clean of mad at an exchange of some coins.

  • 4/5 Anne M. 1 year ago on Google
Has a wide variety of products that one can buy at a reasonable price both at wholesale and retail. Easily navigable and very near to the CBD.

  • 4/5 Miranda L. 1 year ago on Google
Very crowded but it's the best place for second hand clothes, household items such as curtains, bedsheets, pillow cases..the pineapples are also very tasty. Some vendors might be a bit pricey than expected and the paths could be dusty or muddy, so those are 2 negatives.

  • 4/5 Michael O. 1 year ago on Google
Most products available in this market, prices variation available. Vigilance also encourage. Large population and commotion. Accessible roads and paths in place. Best for households and clothing shopping.

  • 3/5 peter w. 1 year ago on Google
Most products are readily available from clothes to shoes to furniture and many more. It's a really busy place but accessibility is poor, the amenities are poor and there is the fear of pickpockets

  • 2/5 Bonidrrehake B. 1 year ago on Google
The place is conjested with people, stalls and motorcycles on the road. A new trader will find it hard to start his business here. It's also not that clean.

  • 5/5 Daniel M. 1 year ago on Google
It's easy to get lost here when you are new to the city. But everyone is super helpful if you ask for directions especially from store attendants and not random people.

  • 4/5 Stewie S. 10 months ago on Google
The market is chaotic but you will get different items. There are people at the entrance from the matatu stop who will offer to take you round for a small fee. It was an efficient venture.

  • 5/5 Dylan M. 10 months ago on Google
When you're unfamiliar with the city, it's simple to get lost here. However, if you ask for directions, especially from business employees rather to just any random person, everyone will be quite helpful.

Tens of thousands visit this place to haggle out for assortment of wares ranging from second hand clothes to kitchenware. So far it's the largest open air market in Kenya. Everything is pocket-friendly unlike that dealer near your home. The place is always crowded but lively. However, the place has experienced fire incidents more than seven times so far. The terrible fires have ravaged property worth millions. Nevertheless, Just like a balloon, it always bounces back.

This is a one-stop market for all your wardrobe needs, ranging from dresses, suits, shirts, pants to bedding. As if that is not enough, you can get ex-Uk sports gear, kitchen wares, and toys, among others. Opened daily, morning till late, with Monday to Saturday being the recommended shopping days. Wait, did I mention you can get food and all your groceries here!!? Of course you can, fish, chicken, banana and vegetables just to mention but a few. On rainy days, grab your gumboots because you might not like it!! Happy shopping, and remember to get some of the apparel from us @AllantehsWear ❤️

It's one of the best places to find cheap products. However, it's very congested as there are so many people. Another drawback is that levels of hygiene are too low and the area is a bit insecure

  • 3/5 ANONYMOUS 4 months ago on Google
It is an environment which if you have to visit when it has rained you ought to be prepared to dislike the place. The products (second hand clothes or mitumba as some usually call them)being sold there are relatively cheap but comparitively best quality as compared to the ones being sold in the neighbouring MUTHURWA MARKET. It is not a secure place though , walking around the market you just need to be carefull with your properties especially mobile phones and money ,not everyone is who they seem to look.
