This place is very historical and no one knows when the rocks are formed in there. You'll find a very pleasant wheather and adventurous too🤪. Make sure to visit them before 5:30pm. Else you'll disappoint. I'm attaching the pictures of the places nearby too one the same mountain. You can make use of them.

Didn't expect to go up there but I did. Great place for meditation. Neither ashram authority nor City has done anything to put up signs or to make both route safe. You must ask someone to find out how to get there. Part of the treck is steep. No sign even on the main road. Take plenty of water with you. Always start early and come back before sunset as there are no lights. Language is also a problem because most people speaks only Tamil. Ashram accommodation are better then expected. So is the food inside the ashram.

In this cave bhagavan Ramana Maharshi spent 17 years doing meditation. Very peaceful place. Don't disturb the environment. Don't throw plastic while trekking to this holiest place. A small Trek from behind the temple will lead to this place.

This is the cave where Ramana Maharshi has meditated during his time finding the answers to the questions which were unknown to the tamed human brain. Raman Maharshi has given so much wisdom and freedom of thought impressions through his very simple preachings. This place reeks of the spiritual thoughts and diverse vibes to energise the people around and fill them with positivity. There are two routes to reach this cave. 1. From inside the Ramana Maharshi Ashram by trekking around 2 km. 2. Reaching the cave by vehicle from outside and trek around 300 m. The place is extremely peaceful for meditation but gets crowded with tourists at times.

Small dark cave where Raman Maharshi meditated. Pin drop silence. Nice place to meditate. Free entry. No interference of guides or brokers. Photo not allowed inside. We took photo of outside only. Trekking is interesting. You need 1 km trekking from the temple to reach this place. Walk further up to find Skandashram.

A unique cave as it is in the shape of the syllable “Om”, with a vestibule with a reclining stone "couch" outside the main cave. There is an excellent on the cave which gives many details of Ramana's time there and some rare pics of the interior. The cave derives its name from Virupaksha Deva, a renowned 13th century saint. It is believed that Virupaksha spent most of his life in this cave and surroundings. Legends tell that his body turned into ashes just after his Samadhi. The sacred ash (vibhuti) is assumed to be preserved here on the altar. Ramana was in total mouna/silence until he gave his famous "upadesa"/teaching to Ganapati Muni in 1907 on the nature of "tapas"/spiritual practice which resulted in his being renamed Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi from his birth name Venkataraman Iyer. This has long been one of my favorite meditation spots. Virupaksha Cave We climbed to the cave by the "steep, rough, smelly" route from Tiruvannamalai, which passes through some of the poorer parts of the town with poor or no sanitation; cow dung for heating and cooking is often being dried on the stones alongside the path.As we arrived at the cave early, i was able to secure the "best" spot, one i knew well, in the dark corner on the right hand side, out of the path from the door to the "altar" where folk often traveled to bow, sit for a few minutes and leave. This was particularly important as the entire Ramanasramam "scene" has become much more popular and the cave, normally deserted except for a "cave watcher" when i was there 12 years ago, was now full of folk coming and going, and now had a "pujari" or altar attendant doing much fussing around with wick tending, lamp filling, etc. at least until about 9 when things started to thin out significantly. During the first hour, i could feel a great energy with a strong compelling feel to it coming from the approximate region of the altar, but couldn't really fully connect with it. As folk thinned out, i surrendered into it, and a huge energy flowed into "me".

Place where Sri Ramana Maharishi lived. This place is in the hills of Arunachala at Thiruvannamalai. About 1.8 kilometers from Sri Ramanashramam. Must visit place, after reaching Kandasramam, you need to take further down to this cave. Do not take any eatables Or bags that attract monkeys. You may be seeing little tougher while going down to cave from Kandasramam but you must visit and do the meditation in the cave. It's a life time worth doing meditation here. One volunteer from Ramanasramam help us in getting into the cave. He is so much respected. He gave us Ramanar prasadham "Who am I" get to know about Maharishi

One of the meditation caves in Mount Arunachala. Must visit places. There are two ways to reach this place. 1. Via Ramana Ashram 2. Via backside of Annamalayar temple Gopuram (Pe Gopuram) People allowed here are to be maintained silent and meditation morning 8 Am till early eve it will be open. It's easy to climb the mountain to reach this first cave meditation place. It comes before the Skanda ashram while climbing via (2). Every devotee must visit this place without fail once in their life.

A wonderful experience The places should be minted a bit specially the start of the trek to the cave It's worth it totally Be careful of the monkeys and dogs Carry water or there is drinking water available in between in pots The peace of mind which you get once you see the cave and sit in meditation inside is a wonderful experience which cannot be explained in words once has to experience the silence Overall a wonderful experience And reach before 4 :30 in the evening as it closes sharp by 4 :30 And you will need time to come back and its difficult to come back when it's dark if you are going for the first time It's better to have some locals as guide so that you can know the best route to climb up and down

Profoundly peaceful and powerful energy field. Must visit if you’re looking to connect with Ramana’s frequency on a deeper level. I meditated in silence for about 4 hours and felt a sense of awakening and peace that is hard to describe in words. Grateful for the opportunity to experience this in my lifetime.

This is another nicely maintained cave about half a KM from base. Initial path is little dirty but rest are well maintained. This place is best for meditation and a well trained guide available to guide the visitor and provide the history and importance of the place. This is a must visit place.

Silent yet divine. One can sit here and meditate for some time whilst maintaining total silence so as to not disturb others.. in total, maybe about 10 people can sit inside the circular shaped cave. Felt really good here for no reason..

This cave is on the Thiruvannamalai hill. Bhagavan Ramana maharishi did meditation in this cave while he was living. Very calm place. We can simply feel some spiritual things in this cave while meditation. Very suitable place for meditation people.

Love the atmosphere in this small cave. But it's a tad inaccessible on a daily basis. Climb the holy Arunachala mountain barefoot.

It's a small cave with the memories of ramana maharshi that has a samadhi along with peaceful meditation hall. It's small uphill hike inside the forest area from the arunachaleswar temple.

Good walk up the hill, if you enter from Ramana maharishi Ashram, it’s good 45-50 mins walk, gradual climb , if you start from behind Arunachalam temple - it’s short distance , but very steep climb , also advisable to start before mid day as steps become really hot ( in case naked foot)

Super 💓💓 amazing Mediation place in Tamil Nadu State, Tiruvannamalai. Arunachalam is very famous Agni lingam is there. One of these caves is Skandashram and Virupaksha Cave It is perhaps one mile from Ramanasramam, up a well cared-for path, up the side of the mountain.Bhagwan Ramana Maharshi lived from 1916 to 1922. This is where his mother joined him, and started preparing meals at the ashram, rather than having prepared food carried up, as had been the case since the earliest years. After the mahasamadhi of Mother, and her subsequent interment at the base of the hill, mountain.Bhagwan Ramana Maharshi than took residence at her samadhi, the location of the present day Ramanasramam. Skandashram and Virupaksha Cave meditation place super and amazing in Arunachalam.

Virupaksha cave is where Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi meditated for a few years. A divine and serene place in the Arunchala Hills. There are two ways one can get to this place. One is by climbing up from the Arunachala temple. The other way is to climb up from Ramana Ashram to Skandsaramam and climb down from Skandasramam to Virupaksha Cave. I have written a separate review on how we trekked from Ramana Ashram to Skandasramam. Trekking down from Skandasramam to Virupaksha Cave takes about 10 minutes and climbing up to Skandasramam again takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Very scenic and beautiful. The path may not be well laid out, like the one to Skandasramam, but it is definitely possible for people of all ages to trek. From Virupaksha Cave one go down hill to the Arunachala temple in about 30 minutes or trek up to Skandasramam and then trek down to Ramana Ashram which will take about an hour. Both are possible, depending on one's time availability and energy. Spend as much time as you can at the quiet Virupaksha cave. Be one with nature. Blessings of Lord Arunachala and Bhagwan Raman are with you.

Crowded now. But got some space to sit. Still feel a spiritual charge. Few visitors sit for a long time, though. Movement every few minutes. Surprisingly hot inside even in October. A guy wasted his entire time with noisy bhastrika and other pranayamas, instead of silent meditation. Usual set of beggars outside.

Cave where ramana maharshi used to meditate for 7 years. I felt strong vibration in his mother's room. Location is on the hill, one starting point is from behind the ramana ashram and another one is from near arunachala shiva temple. From top of this hill, you can view Tiruvannamalai city and also beautiful view of Arunachal shiva temple.
