Ol Doinyo Orok. Also known as Namanga hills, close to Kenya-Tanzania border with the highest peak, Ol Doinyo Orok at 2548 mt above sea level. 2nd highest (with cave, water fall & camp site) is the Enkamuka peak at 2308 mt. We have treaked till the 3rd highest peak of 1850 Mt. (from ~1300 mt base camp) From 7 yr kid to senior citizens, 23 people took the journey of 8.5 km, 3 hrs climb & 2 hrs descend. Mt Kilimanjaro, across Tanzania is visible, but was covered by clouds. From Nairobi one can go to Maili Tisa town (155 km) through machakos, kitengela, Isinya & kajiado. At Maili Tisa guide can be booked from the base camp. Guide is a must, we have Guardian, the English speaking Masai man expert in climbing without shoes & showing us various trees & their benefits (miswalk, ginger & chewing gum tree); two bird experts & one team leader. Tropical forest, bush & varieties of birds (superb starling, great hornbill) can be seen enroute. We all had a nice experience from the trip.

A group of us with Esa_safari Hiked Namanga Hills. Lets just say, it was the hardest hike by far. Your terrain is straight up with no clear path really, you are in the middle of the forest and be mindful of the spikey or thorn trees, its like they just grab at your arms and hair when trying to stomp down qre crawlnunder to pass. Yes its hot but wear sometype of sleeves or those sleeves golfers where. My arms are so scartched up. If you are not in shape this will be a challenge and i just rolled out of bed pretty much.. on the hike dowm its very steep and the rocks are sleepery and you are at a fast pace because of how steep and gravity will push. Definetly grab you a walking stick to help balance. I would take two bottles of bottle, one will not be enough. Take a small bag to carry only those two bottles, any thing else becomes so heavy as you get tired. They say its so simple, there is nothing simple about this hike, it maybe shorter but not simple. Where shoes that offer traction as some parts the dirt is very soft. The magic of this hike is reaching the top and looking at the Beauty of Kenya.

Namanga Hills, also known as Ol Orok Hills in Maasai, is a mountain ridge at the border of Kenya and Tanzania. It's the main source of fresh water for Namanga town and has recently been gazetted as a protected zone under the Kenya Forest Service. It's also a hiker's paradise and has several climbing routes, challenging and very rocky. The community around has tried to minimize littering and you rarely get to see trash or plastic matter along the hiking paths. At the very top of the hills, there is a marvel that is the source of the water and whoever gets there can be referred to as a seasoned climber. If you want to test your resilience, give it a shot.

An amazing hike spot With an amazing view ... Make sure you have good hiking shoes and enough water. Leave any extra luggage in your car/camp. A guide is a must . We got help from KENYA FOREST.

It's and amazing place with dry and scrub vegetation, but surprisingly on top there is a thick forest quite a contrast from the base
