We came here after living here for 6 months and always on the ‘short’ list for dinner. My wife and I both enjoy Basque food and heard this place was the local ‘go to’ place. It did not disappoint! The service was extremely friendly and we had a great bottle of wine with our dinner. A follow on one month later: Came for the lamb shank dinner! OMG was it good and the place was packed! This is a true treasure to have in Meridian- great food and a wonderful staff. I, of course, had the shank and my wife had the lamb chops (equally tasteful) and a wonderful bottle of Spanish red wine. Great way to celebrate life!

I had long wanted to go to Epi's based on its reputation and so I chose it to celebrate my birthday. Restaurant was full for early seating around 5 pm (reservations are clearly a must) and we were seated upon arrival. Ambience was homey and friendly. Starting with the highlights: + their calamari appetizer was the best that we have eaten in a long time--maybe ever! We both truly enjoyed it! + the mushroom soup was superb! My wife and I would have been very satisfied with a meal consisting solely of that delicious dish! It was simply to die for! + the lamb stew was great! Broth was flavorful, plenty of lamb that was cooked very nicely, and tasty tomatoes. I loved it! + leg of lamb was good and I would give it 4 stars. Meanwhile, my wife liked it better than I did -- whereas I preferred the stewed lamb. Given the forgoing, I would have awarded 5 stars and ended this review. However... - the salad was so-so with romaine lettuce, 1 cherry tomato, and a few carrot slivers. The dressing was rather bland. - the side dishes were roasted green peppers and a rice pilaf with veggies which included green peppers. I was disappointed with the lack of flavor in both sides. Portion sizes were good and we didn't save room for dessert. Service was prompt and personable. Water and bread were refilled efficiently. Perhaps my expectations were too high; after all, Epi's is rated the top restaurant in Meridian. Given the prices charged, I think a 4 star rating is merited based on the overall experience.

Such magnificent and delicious food every single time. A Boise area staple. If you're from out of town, put this on your list. If you're a local and haven't been, you're missing out and I feel sorry for you. My husband and I had a fantastic experience at Epi's a couple weeks ago. It had been some time since last visiting here and I was looking forward to returning, with high expectations that were greatly surpassed. We began our dinner with a serving of excellent Ham Croquetas (thickened bechamel with jamon serrano, crumbled and fried golden, $16.00). I probably could have eaten two more plates of these and called it good. We loved them! They were perfectly crunchy and the filling was so creamy. There wasn't too much ham but just enough you still noticed it. You HAVE to get these. Entrees are served with soup, salad, bread and two pre-selected side dishes. Both soups were great! My husband selected a Red Bean (I think?) tomato based soup and I the clam chowder. So much goodies in both, especially in the chowder. The salads were a little sad looking, a few leaves and shredded carrots that I could have done without. At least it was fresh! I ate mine without dressing so at most it was a palate cleanser for me. I chose a lighter fare of Slow Roasted Leg of Lamb (hand carved boneless leg of lamb served with a burgundy sauce, $27.00, $34.00 for a regular portion) with a side of wild rice. It was nothing like I had ever had before. The lamb was tender like butter and the sauce exquisite. The rice was a great side and it paired well with the sauce, too. As much as I liked my dish, the winner of the evening was my husband's, the Halibut Filet (hand cut halibut, citrus crusted, topped with lobster cream sauce, $41.00). Holy cannoli, whatever was in the cream sauce was ADDICTING. I kept swiping bites from my husband's plate when I could. The halibut itself was excellent a hundred times over. It was some of the best food I'd eat in Boise in a long, long time.

Really nice concept since the restaurant looks like a house outside. So, it feels like coming home to grandma's for Thanksgiving. But once inside, the atmosphere changes. It is way too noisy, like you're in an arena and in the middle of an MMA fight! Our server can't even hear us she has to lean over to us to take our order. The service staff are really awesome. The appetizers are great. The entrée comes with a soup, which is really good. After that, it went downhill to the bottom pit. We waited way too long for the food while other guests chatted like they had to outdo one another. It was torture!😫 Then our entrée finally arrived. The halibut dish is fishy and overcooked. The ink(squid) dish is too sweet and blah. The tongue dish is sliced too thin, and bland tomato sauce poured onto it. We barely ate it. Turned down the dessert because we felt aggravated already by the loud customers. The prices of their entrées are overpriced for the taste of their dishes. If not for the awesome staff and appetizers, I'll rate this a 1 star. Big time disappointed.

I love coming to Epis and the experience we get. The staff are so great, welcoming and helpful. My favorite is the Halibut with the cream sauce on top! You can bet that I will always get the calamari, I’ve been to some Michelin restaurants and their calamari is not even close to what I get here at Epis. Be sure to leave room for some Ice cream cake I love have they rotate and match the season to the time of year you are visiting. If you want to feel at home when you eat your meal come to epis! It’s worth every bite and every penny! Don’t forget to wear your stretching pants. 🤍🤍🤍🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Such a lovely warm place to eat where they treat you like family. The food is good. Always get the croquettes for an appetizer. If I could give 6 stars I would.

A great local spot with all your favorite classical basque dishes and more. The restaurant is a little small so make sure you make a reservation. Food and service is great and the atmosphere has a cozy homey vibe. The croquettes are a must!

This is a legitimate can't miss when visiting Boise. Recommended to me by my local coworker who is Basque. I ordered exactly what she told me to order--croquetas, tongue and bread pudding. It was all delightfully unique and satisfying. Quaint dining room has a European feel to it. I was a "single rider" on a Wednesday night, so I had no trouble getting in. Well worth enduring the awful traffic on Fairview to get to Meridian.

Wow this place was fun. Was in for a dinner party of 11 and I enjoyed every aspect of Epi's. The atmosphere was very welcoming and felt like being in an awesome home. The service was very welcoming and they accommodated our every need. The place was packed but we never had a wait for anything. We did apps and full dinners, the food was awesome and plentiful, it seemed like it was coming all night. We spent nearly 3 hours eating and drinking and having fun without ever feeling rushed. Once again, the service was great. I can't wait to go back and experience some different dishes, everything on the menu looked appetizing.

I bring all my visitors here because I KNOW the food, service and total experience will always be excellent. The calamari is some of the best I have every tasted and some of my guests say it is the best. Sometimes I dream of that calamari. I've had the scallops, halibut, steak medallions and meatballs. All perfect with the scallops my favorite. Dessert also good, too. We share dessert and always have to have some of the entree to take home, which doesn't usually last long after we are there. I feel so lucky to have this gem in my town.

What an amazing dining experience! The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing. The restaurant smells so good! My wife ordered the halibut and it was cooked to perfection. I had the rib eye and it is the best steak I have ever had. With entrees you get a generous amount of bread, soup, salad and 2 sides. Very friendly staff and the owner, Erik, is all over the place visiting with customers, working in the back, making sure his restaurant is firing on all cylinders. Love seeing the pride of ownership in the food served and atmosphere of the restaurant. Highly recommend Epi’s !

Be prepared for a lot of food haha (well, maybe). We were there on the weekend they had lamb shanks so I ordered that and my husband decided to be adventurous and order the baby squid in leek ink sauce. First course was soup and it was ok, nothing phenomenal. Then a quite sad salad for 2nd course (a little bit of romaine with some dressing and one cherry tomato and a sprinkle of shredded carrots). And bread that was cold. Then my entree came with mashed potatoes AND the shrimp rice AND fries! Good sized shank though, VERY tender and fell off the bone, and the sauce was delicious. Would've liked it served in a bigger dish though, and there was a ton of fat and gristle (maybe that's normal? I rarely order lamb shanks). The squid dish didn't seem filling at ALL and didn't come with the same sides. Our server was great! Very personable and friendly. He did tell us that the special (shanks) was $42 buy it actually was $46 if I remember correctly. Very cozy and tight inside so dont expect a ton of room, love their "patio" seating nook though, so creative! Definitely make a reservation if you're heading there for dinner!

My friends…. This place - it deserves 500 stars. The food. The people. The atmosphere. After making a reservation, I called thinking I had to cancel realizing I would be an hour late (traffic ya know?). Erik went above and beyond to work with me, and personally checked in with me and my party - so personal and thoughtful. Christina was without a doubt the best waitress I’ve ever had - so extremely attentive and kind.

We had been wanting to try this place for a year and never got around to it. Same for the couple that went with us. We all left very disappointed. First, the ambience isn't much to speak of. It's small and loud. Ok, whatever. I'm here for the food. The mushroom appetizer was delicious but unfortunately it ended there. Three of us got the halibut, which was overcooked and had way too much cream sauce on it (I usually love sauces, so when I say it's too much, you know it's true.). My husband got the steak medallions, which were under seasoned and undercooked. The salad was the most basic, flavorless salad I've ever eaten out, with just romaine lettuce and carrot slices. House dressing was underwhelming as well. I ate two bites and pushed it away, disinterested. The cream of mushroom soup was flavorful, however, very watered down. It wasn't "creamy" at all, as the name suggests. It felt like maybe the previous night's batch, with water added to make it stretch. With so many restaurants in the Treasure Valley, I doubt I'd give it another try. Too expensive to take the risk. Bummer. ;o/

We had the most amazing waiter, and all the staff was super friendly. It was the perfect spot to talk and have dinner with friends. The food was very good, with the exception of the lamb (not as tender as I hoped and seemed cooked the day before). But overall, it was an amazing experience, and I will be back.

I am from California and visited Boise for work. Decided to check this 5 star rated restaurant. I had the meatballs and the lamb stew. Both were not bad but not good. The side dishes (soup, potatoes, salad) were truly blend. Honestly, I was disappointed given the high ranking this place have. The staff itself was very attentive and provided great service. Overall I would say it's a nice place with nice atmosphere but judging from the dishes I tried, this place just felt amateurish.

Outstanding as always. Service is so far beyond expectations... nobody stands around, everyone is busy doing what needs to be done to make customers happy. I just wish they wouldn't run out of the specials. I completely understand but I just wish.... All of the food is so flavorful and expertly prepared. Our favorite special occasion place to go. My favorite specials are the Fried Oysters and Scallops. Absolute perfection!

Amazing dining experience. The staff was polite and on their game. Everything from the salad and bread appetizer to the entree and dessert where phenomenal. I had that night's special, a black pepper crusted filet and I can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever had.

Visiting with my daughter, we went to dinner here. The service was excellent, the wait staff was very friendly and very on top of things. The food was delicious. I had lamb stew, one daughter had leg of lamb, and the other one had the beef meatballs. Almost more food than we could manage. We shared a dessert because we wanted to try at least one of them. We chose one that was like a cake with lemon cream and topped with a raspberry sauce. It was sooo good. Go to experience a nice evening and enjoy the food, but do expect to pay for it. All things considered, it was worth it!

Outstanding food, great service, reasonable prices. I enjoyed the Filet Medallions and was surprised they came with bread, soup and salad. Bring your appetite as it's hard to leave hungry.

The instant we crossed the threshhold of Epi's, my husband and I were greeted by the owner. The restaurant, which was once a home, provided a cozy, relaxed, family-feel kind of atmosphere. The menu had many delicious items to choose from. We ordered their brussell sprouts with chorizo and an order of mushrooms as appetizers because we couldn't decide on just one! The brussel sprouts with chorizo were well balanced in flavor with their delicious dijonnaise sauce. The mushrooms were velvety and tantalized our tastebuds with a backend flavor of sherry. For the entree, we decided to split their Rib Rye because we splurged on appetizers but still wanted dessert. The rib eye came with rice and roasted peppers. It also came with salad, bread, and soup. Their soups of the day were red bean soup and cream of mushroom soup. I couldn't decide on which soup, so they were so gracious and brought out a small cup of each! The bread was fresh, crisp on the outside, and soft in the inside. The house salad was a very good portion size. The soup was delicious. I was expecting something basic, but instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the richness of both soups. The rib eye was flame broiled, cooked to our liking, and satisfied our palate for a juicy steak. Now, onto dessert!! The dessert menu had many four options. You could have bread pudding, flan, or their citrus flavored pudding called Gateau Basque. What caught my attention was their ice cream cake, of which you had to ask the server because it is seasonal. After inquiring, their ice cream cake was a churro ice cream cake drizzled in caramel sauce, topped with 2 churros. She had me at Churro!! It was fantastic!! The feeling was a "melt-in-your-mouth, can't stop eating it" kind of feeling. There is a very cool story to how Epi's came about, so you should definitely call/text for a reservation, come in to eat, and find out! We regret not trying this place sooner, even though we have read the countless articles that circlated through the Valley. So come on down, you won't regret it, and we will probably be there because we are definitely coming back!

I had no idea that there’s a Basque Country restaurant in Boise, Idaho. This place only opens for dinner 5 days a week. The cuisine from a region of Spain and France. So the type of food is kind of like Spanish tapas and French cuisine. The ham Croquetas is a little too salty for me. The shrimp and rice creamy soup is pretty good. The halibut is good. The steak is tender.
