established
on
29th
December,
1960.
The
White
tiger
Safari
and
the
Lion
Safari
was
established
in
the
year
1991
and
1984
respectively.

Herbivore
safari
was
created
in
the
Park
in
the
year
2011.
The
newly
created
#Bear_safari
over
an
area
of
more
than
10
acres
has
been
constructed
under
the
financial
assistance
from
13th
Finance
Commission
Grant.
The
design
of
the
Bear
Safari
has
been
prepared
by
an
Architect
in
consultation
with
zoo
experts
of
the
State.
The
total
cost
of
establishment
of
Bear
Safari
comes
to
Rs.200
lakhs.
The
site
for
the
bear
safari
was
selected
in
a
patch
of
natural
forest
situated
adjoining
to
the
Herbivore
safari
and
Lion
safari.
The
entrance
gate
of
Bear
safari
has
been
specially
designed
to
provide
a
natural
look.
The
safari
is
surrounded
with
a
boundary
wall
of
828m.
length
and
3m.
height.
The
northern
boundary
of
the
safari
has
been
earmarked
with
a
moat
(
over
a
length
of
164m
and
a
depth
of
2.5m).
The
road
network
inside
the
safari
spreads
over
a
length
of
505m.
Provision
of
two
water
holes
and
feeding
platforms
have
been
made
inside
the
safari
area.
Six
feeding
chambers
and
three
back
kraals
have
been
provided
for
the
captive
bears.
A
treatment
room
fitted
with
a
squeeze
cage
for
treatment
of
the
ailing
animals
has
also
been
provided
in
the
facility.
The
establishment
of
bear
safari
in
Nandankanan
is
the
third
in
the
country
next
to
Nehru
Zoological
Park,
Hyderabad
and
Bannerghata
Biological
Park,
Bengaluru
