A great place to visit if you are looking forward to gorging on some authentic Bengali cuisine. All the dishes we tried were absolutely delicious. A piece of advice: Make sure you reserve your table beforehand especially if you are intending to visit this place on weekends. We got our spot after waiting for almost an hour. The service was also little slower than expected and that is the sole reason for the 3 stars. So keep these points in mind before visiting the place. Reserving a table beforehand is recommended.

One of the best places for lunch if you are looking for authentic bengali cuisine. We had done our check in of 6 people at 12.30 pm and we got the seats easily. We have tried the buffet items and I must say that the food quality was very good. Especially Gondhoraj ghol as welcome drink, Dhakai Pora Mangsho, Basanti polao, and chicken cutlet were very tasty. Baked Mihidana with Rabri in sweet dish was very yummy. We have also tried gondhoraj bhetki, chicken tramfrado and fresh lime soda from the menu and it was good. Overall it was a great experience for us.

    * I have deducted 1star for the rude behavior of staff 5-star food, popular but expensive. Nice place for family and friends. The buffet is available during lunchtime and it's heaven for non-vegetarian/Bengali food. I have tried dab chingri, aalo posto, bhetki, cholar daal, and everything was almost perfect. Just look at the pictures I have posted below and feel the taste.

The only reason to rate it 4 stars is the price. No doubt the place is expensive. But the food is worth the price. They serve some of the best Bengali food I have ever tried. The mutton preperations are a must try. A must go place to enjoy mood lifting Bengali food. It's better go on weekdays to avoid weekend rush.

Our friend recommended this to get a nice introduction to Bengali food, and we thought this was a good experience. Love the quaint decor of this place, with it's chequered tiles, large colonial doors, windows and knick-knacks. Bengali food is prepared mostly in mustard oil, and tastes very different from South Indian cuisine, which has a heavy influence of coconut oil. North Indian cuisine is generally on the spicier side as well. We ordered the following : 1) Dab Chingri - This is a prawn dish that was slightly sweet served in a coconut shell. Nice and creamy. 2) Luchi - soft luchi's with steam egging out upon cracking it. We took a couple of coolers that were great to blow off some steam in the Kolkata humidity.

Had to wait 35 min for a table but luckily there was a cute lil cafe nearby. The place depicts a tasteful and rich interiors that compliment the cuisine. The staff was friendly amd helpful and the food was absolute scrumptious. Ordered their signature fish fry that was insanely tender. Next we tried jhur jhure aloo bhaja which was a delight as we had them with bhetki Paturi, dab chingri and steamed rice. All of this was enjoyed with a tangi bonolota sen that was a heady mix of spices and grapes. Would love to comeback and try their buffet menu

In some ways it’s worth coming just for the ambiance, which is outstanding. As for the food, I had the buffet and it was very good with the exception that the food temperature was a little low. I hope they can make the food hotter and then it would be 5/5.

6 Ballygunge Place is an epitome of authenticity. The exquisite menu, the bygone era's decor, the authentic Bengali food and their amazing service, will make you want to visit this place again and again. The price is a bit on the higher side but the taste makes up for it. It offers both Buffet and A la Carte options. It closes for lunch at 4 pm and opens again for dinner at 7 pm. One of the best places if you want to relish some amazing Bengali cuisine.

We were there for a non-vegetarian buffet. Firstly they were in hurry to make our table empty so that other new customers can come. Though the buffet timing was not limited. But their attitude showing that we should leave early for accommodation of other coustomer. Quality is average...not upto the mark. The staffs are not cordial enough. They only rely on no of customer not about their quality of service. Even several times they were rude during our visit.

Went on Sunday, they had a buffet with ample items. Staff confirmed buffet is available every day only at this branch, weekday price around 850 and weekend around 1100(without gst) for non veg. On the items I tried, fish chop and dahi mutton was best, the desserts items were good too, specially the baked mihidana rabri.

I feel it is one of the best places to taste authentic Bengali food. We tried both the veg and nonveg options in starter and main course. Being a non-bengoli i found all the food so tasty and delicious. Service was very good and fast. The team is also very humble and cooperative. The ambience is mind blowing. Food, Interior, cutlery, furniture, menu on every part they have done their best.

This place is evergreen with their quality food and top notch service. They have an aesthetic ambience, with cozy interiors reflecting the Bengals culture. Food quality is constant since the last few years, but the quantity in the a la carte menu has decreased. Hospitality is commendable.

Best place to visit for Bengali cuisine. Must try fish fry and bhuna ghost. Lovely ambience & welcoming staff. They do help you with the food menu when in doubt. The ultimate casual dining place for Bengali food lovers. They serve the most delicious Bengali delicacies. I went on Jamai shosthi with my wife. We ordered luchi, mutton kasha, doi chicken, basanti pulao, fish fry, gondhoraj ghol, and Banalata Sen. All the items were amazing. The ambiance is also great, we dined on the 2nd floor which had vibrant decor. Overall, a must visit for people who want to find out the true essence of Bengali cuisine.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at 6 Ballygunge Place, and I must say that it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The restaurant's ambiance was warm and inviting, creating a cozy and relaxed atmosphere that made me feel right at home. Let's start with the highlight of my meal—the delicious Fish fry. The perfectly cooked fish had a crispy outer layer and a tender, flavorful interior. It was seasoned to perfection, leaving me craving for more with every bite. The accompanying steamed rice and daal were the perfect compliment, adding a comforting touch to the meal. To refresh my palate, I ordered the Gondhoraj ghol, and it was an absolute delight. The tangy and refreshing taste of the drink was the ideal refresher, balancing the flavors of the meal and leaving me feeling invigorated. Moving on to the seafood dishes, both the fried pomfret and steamed bhetki were outstanding. The pomfret had a delicate, crispy coating that gave way to moist and tender flesh. The bhetki, on the other hand, was steamed to perfection, preserving its natural flavors and showcasing the quality of the fish. Both dishes were a true testament to the chef's expertise and attention to detail. And finally, I cannot forget to mention the scrumptious Nolen gur er ice cream. It was the perfect ending to a delightful meal. The ice cream had a rich, caramel-like flavor that was beautifully balanced by the subtle sweetness of nolen gur. Each spoonful was pure bliss, and it left me with a sweet and satisfied smile. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Bengali cuisine served with impeccable service in a cozy setting.

I should say the food was a bit above average. For the 800 rupees (excluding tax) that I paid for their buffet, the dishes that were offered were less than 10 in number. An "authentic Bengali" restaurant as they call it had only one dish in fish. What an authenticity!!!! Moreover, the moment we walked in they realized that we are not Bengalis, well obviously for various reasons! But surprisingly, the attitude of the receptionists, waiters were clearly xenophobic. How could all of them manage to be the same? I will narrate an instance. We requested for more luchis and waited for over 20 minutes. After 10 minutes, I reminded the waiter. He brought a basket and served it to the next table. Then, my friend reminded another waiter. He said he will bring soon. After 10 minutes, he brought a basket full and served to the other table. The diners did not want it and requested to take it back. But the waiter said, please go ahead and eat it. That is when we realized the politics. We met the manager. She apologized and requested our waiter to bring our ordered food. We felt this xenophobia all the time. So, all the non-Bengali foodies who would like to taste authentic Bengali food, if you can put up with their xenophobic attitude, please visit them for their "not so authentic Bengali" food.

This place is very unique in its own way. The place is well decorated and well very clean interms of hygiene. Comming to the table reservation, as it was Sarswati Pujo, the place is crowded but not overloaded and only allowing people asper their limits. The good thing is they are taking time but serving very good, tasty and fresh food as well as they are not hurrying for eating quickly. Pros: Maybe it is little expensive but it is worth spending. 1. Staffs even the security uncle at gate was very very humble and polite. 2. The food is very fresh and quiet good. 3. The ambience is very nice and cosy and the place is very breathable or say, spacious. 4. I think if you are going to get various items so, buffet will be also a great choice, though we did not tried. 5. There is even a cosy room for waiting. Cons: Only 1 bathroom is available and that is for 1 person at a time ao it is little bit problematic. we have ordered various items. 1. Basanti pulao. 2. Bhetki Paturi. 3. Bhuna Mangso. 4. Jhur Jhure Aloo Bhaja. 5. Bonolota Sen (beverage) 6. Hongsoraaj (beverage) 7. Chicken Cutlet (starter) ( Don't remember the exact name) So eating is overall a very pleasant experience. The mutton was soft but not upto the mark only. Rest of the foods are awesome. You can go with your loved ones and enjoy a total different eating experience there.

All the items that we ordered were delicious except for the Gondhoraj Ghol which was very basic. The Golda Chingrir Chiney Kebab is a must try item. It was scrumptious - prawn pieces cut and baked in gravy. Gondhoraj grilled fish was good. Kosha Mangsho was very well cooked having tender pieces of mutton. The basanti pulao was tested good but looked like not fresh. The Nolen Gurer Icecream has no comparison. Overall a good experience.

Food is good. Just good nothing to be excited about. The atmosphere is good for dining. Decor is in agreement with Bengali culture and cuisine. If someone wants to taste Bengali food may go there. But home cooked Bengali dishes are always more authentic and more tasteful. Of course you need a good cook for that.

We decided to celebrate the New Year with a sumptuous lunch at 6- Ballygunge Place, one of the finest restaurants in Kolkata. We were a family of seven, and we were warmly welcomed by Chef Sushanta Sengupta, who is a friend of ours and a perfect gentleman. He ensured that we had a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. The food was simply superb, with a variety of dishes that showcased the best of Bengali cuisine. We started with mutton chops and 'Bak' phool bhaja, which were crispy and tender. Then we had chicken gondhoraj fries, which were spicy and tangy, with a hint of the aromatic gondhoraj lemon. The main course was Chetal macher muitha, Kosha mangsho, a rich and succulent mutton curry, and radhaballabhi with chola dal, a stuffed puri with a sweet and spicy lentil accompaniment. We also had rice and some refreshing drinks, such as 'Debi Chaudhurani', a virgin mojito with a twist, and 'Gondhoraj Ghol', a yogurt-based drink with Gondhoraj lemon and mint. To end the meal on a sweet note, we were offered sweet curd and patishapta, a traditional Bengali dessert of thin crepes filled with coconut and jaggery, as a complimentary gesture from the chef. The service was impeccable, with Sujon Bannerjee, the host and server, being attentive and courteous. He guided us through the menu and suggested the dishes that suited our preferences and palates. He also checked on us frequently and made sure that we had everything we needed. We had a wonderful time at 6- Ballygunge Place, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Kolkata. The food, the ambiance, the service, and the hospitality were all top-notch, and we left with a smile on our faces and a satisfaction in our hearts. 😊 Mrs S.Sinha

Mix of Flavours and Frustrations - I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, a renowned spot for Bengali cuisine that holds a position among the top five in its league. The ambiance is delightful, with tasteful decor and a warm welcome from the friendly staff. **Likes:** 1. **Food:** The culinary experience truly lived up to its reputation, presenting a delightful array of Bengali dishes that satisfied the palate. 2. **Staff Behavior:** The staff's demeanor was commendable, creating a pleasant and hospitable atmosphere for diners. 3. **Decor:** The restaurant's aesthetic charm adds to the overall dining experience, creating an inviting and visually appealing setting. **Disappointments:** 1. **Poor Sitting Arrangements:** Unfortunately, the dining experience was marred by inadequate seating arrangements. Despite our party of seven, we were uncomfortably crammed into a space designed for six, impacting our overall enjoyment. 2. **Lack of Courtesy in Food Service:** A subtle gesture can make a significant difference. Regrettably, the staff did not inquire if we preferred them to serve our food. A small but thoughtful touch could elevate the dining experience. 3. **Absence of Valet Service:** Given the prominence of the restaurant chain, the absence of valet service is surprising. It detracted from the overall convenience and left a notable gap in the expected level of service for a restaurant of this caliber. In conclusion, while 6 Ballygunje Place boasts an undeniable charm and culinary prowess, there are notable areas that require attention to ensure a consistently exceptional dining experience. Addressing these concerns would undoubtedly elevate the restaurant's standing among connoisseurs of Bengali cuisine. *Note: Ratings are subjective and reflect the reviewer's personal experience.*

If you want to taste authentic Bengali food this is the right place, beautiful decor it gives you old era vibe. Will come again

The name itself is a brand. Ambience nice but could have been better. We opted for nonveg buffet @ Rs. 680+tax. Food quality and taste was awesome. But starter section was not satisfactory. So were dessert section. Main course was wonderful. But at the beginning mutton was very tender and nice but later the pieces appeared undercooked. Overall nice experience

Lunch was tasty but less oily. We being bengali thoroughly enjoyed the menu provided by them. As corona virus outbreak has taken place in Kolkata they provided hand sanitizer but instead of providing with the hand sanitizer at the table, they should compel the visitor to use that at the gate.

Nice ambience, good food. Price is little high. You need to book an appointment well in advance else have to wait for 1 hr or more. This is located in ballygunge, no parking facility is available. You can pay by cash or card. The buffet and ala carte menu is available. If you are 4-5 person, then taking ala carte would be beneficial. For couple, you can take buffet to have a variety. Overall can spend 2hrs for lunch and at the end of the day, it's satisfactory.

This restaurant is a Mecca of sorts for me. My trips to Kolkata, however short, can never be complete without a visit here. Went to dine here just day before and for the first time ever I had a complete veg buffet and boy what a delightful meal it ended up to be. I always tell my friends that Kolkata knows it’s food! The people there take food seriously and that’s why you get so much variety and delicious food to gorge on wherever you go 😉 6 Bally has the most delicious Bengali food and that’s given! Plus the aesthetics of this place make it so insta worthy and how!! I Whole heartedly recommend this restaurant to dine in!

Great location. Great space. Great food. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I chose today to visit and today was a buffet style dinner. This is one of the best Bengali Cuisine restaurant in town. They have great Bengali Buffet and al-a-carte menu as well. We got a lichi drink as complementary drink, it was so refreshing, then they served Luchi, begun bhaja, Salt pepper chicken. In main course we had Basanti pulao, plain rice, dal, Ichor kalia, chicken kosha, Mutton, chatni and papad. In dessert, we had Misti doi, Gulab Jamun, Strawberry Sandesh. Overall giving 5 stars for the experience.

The ambiance is good, food quality and quantity are good but overpriced. Have not found any thali options on Sunday. Better to go for a buffet (@ 999+tax) which may be good. Serving plates are not stain free, though they had changed those after making a request but all are the same. Service people are helpful and good enough.

A-la-carte is better for trying their signature dishes. Though the buffet is available, the food taste is not good . Price is on the higher side. Per heads it's more than 1500+ few pictures have been added of their signature dishes. *Tip- for any occasions like Durga Puja Bengali new year they only serve buffet with special menu. Usually the buffet is 1100+ tax but during celebration it is 1400+tax, as the menu remains special. *Overall it is good, better to go for other outlets where footfall is less, than the main outlet.

Hello Foodies! Do you wanna try authentic Bengali cuisine? Don’t miss to try 6 Ballygunge Place if you are in Kolkata. Here are a few photos from when I visited Kolkata (2022). If you do not like spicy food ask them and they will be able to match your tastebuds accordingly. I am sure you will love it. And specially if you have never tried fish, just try them! These are authentic dishes which you will never get to try anywhere else.

6 Ballygunge Place in the heart of Kolkata is an absolute must-visit for those craving authentic Bengali food. The heavenly taste of dishes like Ilish and Mutton Kosha, paired with exceptional service, made our brief layover memorable. I'm glad I chose this gem to satisfy my mom's craving during our 9-hour layover on the way to Bangkok from Siliguri. Thank you, Ballygunge Place, for a truly satisfying experience!

Located in a by lane of Ballygunge, this is the main branch of this iconic restaurant chain. Main buffet area is in the ground floor, but there is a small buffet setup in the first floor as well. Menu was brief and frankly nothing extraordinary. Ambiance was nice and staff helpful.

I am not sure how many people thought the same thoughts as I did when I walked in for lunch and found a choice of dishes which was not lavish by any standard. No, it was not meager, there was one fish dish, one chicken, one mutton (I am not listing the veg dishes ... but they weren't too numerous either) and just two items at the dessert end.

Extensive menu, old world setting, courteous staff and superb order taker. Everything thing we tried was nice. Huge seating capacity. If you want to try everything the buffet is the wise option

Delicious authentic Bengali cuisine from a self service buffet. I really like the professional way they are managing the high demand for their restaurant, by creating two seatings and observing time limits. I spoke to two different managers regarding bookings and they were very polite and helpful. The food was delicious! Will go back

Lovely ambience, great food and very good service. I feel if you want to taste bengali cuisine, its the best place for it, as I have also been to other big names too. That's my opinion. But one thing for sure, you would love the food here.

Awesome Bengali food. Traditional decor. Attentive and adequate service staff. Great ambience. When in Kolkata, one must visit this unique restaurant chain.

It's a highly overrated place. A la carte was over priced however buffet was good. However the spread was very meagre. If you re a fish lover looking to indulge the sea food then this not the right place. I wonder how this place is listed in all the must try lists !!

6 Ballygunge Place is one of the exquisite addresses in the city of joy Kolkata, that will serve you a menu designed to perfection with authentic Bengali delicacies. The signature Dab Chingri (a melt-in-the-mouth preparation of prawns roasted inside tender coconut) or the traditional Kasha Mangsho, the lunch and dinner spread at any of their outlets are an absolute delight. Traditional vegetarian dishes like Doi Potoal, Bati Chocchori and many more, come to life in the hands of expert chefs are regularly cooking up a storm.

Rs.700 plus per head for buffet at this place with the kind of spread they provide is not bad.But few things were annoying.Mutton curry(most ordinary),Pabda fish which was on the menu was always short of running stock.Guests were waiting for long periods for the fish to arrive.White rice peas pulao had no special taste.I think if you consider quantity of food rather than quality of food, then you should visit this place.

One of the best places in Kolkata to grad a delicious and authentic Bengali food. The menu has recipes from grandmas kitchen and drinks named after famous characters in Bangalore fiction. The ambience is great. The restaurant is designed after a house from the colonial times with furniture from the time in the waiting room. The walls are painted with very familiar images from the সহজ পাঠ. The floor is classic checkered. All in all a great experience.

Superb fine dining experience especially for Bengali cuisine. Perhaps the best of Kolkata. Nice ambience. Well trained sober staff. Very tasty food. Wonderful spread of menu with some typical ethnic bengali delicacies. Only buffet on special days, otherwise a la carte available. Recently home delivery started. Personally prefer the Ballygunge location than Salt Lake.

Food quality is so nice. Ambiance superb. But I'm very much disappointed with the service and hospitality. Waiting for a long time bcoz of no pre booking. Welcome drink, some items in desert were finished for selected guests, but not for everyone. Waiting a long time for any kind of service. We'll never go again there or in other branches of them. Other buffet restaurants in kolkata are very nice than 6 Ballygunge Place. Really very much disappointed today. But thanks for everything. 5 starts rating only for food and ambiance, but for services and hospitality, I give only 3star. 1st time I visited there with my family and we got bad experience. I think this restaurant judge their guests by their dresses. I strongly feel that. Thank You for that.

The first time I heard about a fine dining Bengali restaurant it was 6 Ballygunje place in Bengaluru. I loved the food there and always wanted to visit the first one in Ballygunje when I visit Kolkata. Fortunately it happened 15 years later and I bet I don’t have any regret when I walked away with a paunch hidden under my winter clothings I am a great lover of Thali however it was not available in this outlet. So I ordered moong dal, jhur jhure alu bhaja and alu posto which was served with Gandharaj lemon. The smell of the citrus fruit on the nostrils , the sourness of its presence in the dal with the alu bhaja warmed me up for what was to follow. The main course was sorse Iliad and the dessert was a custard made of Mihidana Not only the food excellent so was the ambiance. I have to agree an evening well spent and it was good to see the restaurant taking all the precautions during the time of pandemic. A good place for social media buff to click too

Lastly and finally our dessert item was misti doi and baked mihidana with rabri.

This is a good place for authentic Bengali cuisine. Loved the interiors. They have a lot of varieties of fish and if one is not used to eating fish with tiny bones, they have many varieties in boneless also. Their prices are on a higher side. They also have buffet option, which, I realised later, is more cost effective than a la carte. However, there's hardly anything for vegetarians which was a disappointment

This place really serves authentic Bengali cousine at the place - this is housed inside an old building - but during the puja they have *only* BUFFET which is surprising and a bit disappointing for me, thus am taking back 2 stars from service, also the crowd management could have been much better, with more place for people to sit and wait , because there were lot of elderly people whom I saw coming didn't have a place to sit, and its hard for them to wait for such long waiting hours , and also stop taking "pre booking" during the pujas, the chaos happens because of this pre booking only, it must be first comes first basis ! Overall there's no question on the taste, the richness and the quality of the food, thats phenomenal ❤️
