Let me tell you a story. The story of the best Chinese Restaurant in the City of Joy, Kolkata. "TUNG NAM EATING HOUSE!" โ™ฅ๏ธ Delicious in taste, too much variety in the menu, pocket friendly, authentic, sufficient in quality and the best service you can ask from the the most polite and well behaved staff and owners. I have been eating here for almost ten years and since I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that serves better chinese food. I will tell you about the dishes that me and my wife had the last time we've eaten here but trust me when I say this, everything on the menu is delicious and worth having. I have tried them all. So the last time we visited we had: 1. Pork Yaam Wonton ๐Ÿ–๐ŸฅŸ Rating: 5/5 Price: 150/- Some of the best wontons I have ever had. So delicious and soft and the perfect starter for a perfect chinese meal. It tasted even better with their signature sauces. 2. Chicken Fried Rice ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿš Rating: 5/5 Price: 150/- Absolutely delicious well cooked fried rice with alot of chicken pieces and veggies. Quantity is sufficient for two people but I suggest order two plates for two people because it tastes so damn good. Price is also very cheap. 3. Chili Chicken ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฒ Rating: 5/5 Price: 190/- Superb in taste, well cooked and big pieces. The chicken was so good, tender and juicy and it contains eight pieces. So as you can tell the price is also very cheap. 4. Pork Fried Rice ๐Ÿท๐Ÿš Rating: 5/5 Price: 150/- Absolutely delicious well cooked fried rice with alot of pork pieces and veggies. Quantity is sufficient for two people but I suggest order two plates for two people because it tastes so damn good. Price is also very cheap. 5. Pork Hamei Sauces ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿฅ˜ Rating: 5/5 Price: 190/- Taste is King! My favourite dish from Tung Nam. Big, juicy, tender and the most succulent pieces of pork cooked in the most delicious sauce. The dish to die for. I don't think any restaurant in Kolkata serves berter pork dishes that Tung Nam and you'll find alot of reviews and vlogs in YouTube about Tung Nam but let me tell you none of those reviews tells the real story about Tung Nam. Only people like us who have been eating at Tung Nam from as long as I have can tell those stories. This is from the heart. Thank You, Tung Nam. With Love, ๐Ÿ’Œ From Me. ๐Ÿ™‡

Awesome food. Semi authentic Mandarin style. Not typical Indian Chinese. Hamchoy, wonton, noodle soup, captai are some very unique things you can only enjoy here (and maybe only in another very few and very old joints). Very nice service. Food is simply awesome. Very highly recommended.

Overall speaking the food is average except for some particular items like wanton soup. Portion size is generous & 1 dish can be easily shared by 2 persons while price is pocket friendly. However, service is sloppy - water is given on request instead of the standard practice of filling a cup once the patron is seated in a table. Avoid going in the summer months as there's no air conditioning.

Heard a lot about this place and their food so decided to give it a try. We ordered steamed Wontons and Chill Pork and I must say both the dishes were extremely delicious. Though I think the service could have been better.

One of my favourite Chinese food joints in the city. One of the oldest in the city too. Almost everything I have tried here has been super tasty. Extremely pocket friendly. Get down at Central metro station and it's a ten minutes walk from there. Check the timings tho.

We had heard a lot about this Chinese eating joint and we finally decided to visit it on a Thursday afternoon. It was mostly packed with people and we somehow managed to get a seat. The ambience was exactly like the eateries of Asian Countries so we were excited about the food as well. We ordered Pepper Fish for appetizers, Chicken Fried Rice and Dry Chilli Pork and Schezwan Chicken for our main course along with two bottles of Coke which was much needed. Everything was amazing, especially the quantity of fried rice they gave us for only 190 per plate. Service was a bit slow, which was why it just proved that every item was freshly cooked. We loved the experience, will definitely be visiting this place again.

So breaking the overhype. The food was average except for the hot garlic pork which was delicious. The veg Manchurian contained an excess amount of salt and tasted very bad. Overall the food was very average. Coming to the service, it was very poor. The behaviour was very rude. It was my personal experience. No hate.

The destination for authentic Chinese food in Kolkata- Tung Nam. It was my very first time in this restaurant after I had thousands reviews both good and bad. But as per my opinion if you are opt for change your taste buds from modified kolkata Chinese to authentic real Chinese food, it is the best you can get.

Modest eatery place. Walking distance from central metro station. I felt food was decent but much over-hyped. Hakka noodles and fried rices were too oily. Taste wise it was very mediocre. But service was very bad and they behaved very rudely if you add any time to your order later. We have plenty of better options for authentic Chinese in Kolkata than Tung Nam. Fish items were not that great in my taste.

While it may not offer the absolute pinnacle of Chinese cuisine in the city, the experience and authenticity are worth recommending. ๐ŸฒTung Nam takes pride in their age-old recipes and the art of making noodles in-house, creating a truly authentic culinary experience. Don't miss the opportunity to take home their delectable prawn chips, a true delicacy. The ambiance at Tung Nam remains nostalgic, transporting you back to the bygone era of Chinese dining in the city. ๐Ÿฎโœจ ๐Ÿ’ฅ Tung Nam is a hidden gem, cherished by those in the know. While you may find better Chinese cuisine elsewhere in the city, the experience of dining at this establishment is what sets it apart. The rich history, traditional recipes, and old-school ambiance create a unique charm that is hard to replicate. ๐Ÿ’Ž ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ A Flavorsome Feast: Our meal at Tung Nam was a mix of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The Veg Ball Manchurian, Mixed Hakka Chow Mein, and Veg Fried Rice delivered a spicy and distinctive flavor profile that set them apart from the average Desi Chinese fare. The non-vegetarian options, including Pork Chilli and Chicken Hong Kong, were thoroughly enjoyed by my companions. Tung Nam may not be the pinnacle of Chinese cuisine in the city, but its authenticity, age-old recipes, and unique ambiance make it a must-visit for those seeking a genuine Chinese dining experience. Immerse yourself in the flavors of tradition and enjoy a taste of nostalgia at this hidden gem. Pocket Pinch: โ‚น1200 for 5 โš ๏ธCarry your cash here. And there is almost always a waiting here! So be patient. Check the timings well, as they are very prompt with it.

It was a Pork Day Indeed!!! We ordered Pork Fried Rice which was good and had eggs too, Pork Hakka Noodles which was sweet to an extend that was definitely balanced by our spicy and crunchy side dish Pork Schezwan. We had to wait for a loooooong time to order and to get our food! So many customers and only two staffs one of them is just simply roaming like vagabond not knowing which table to take order and which to not . We wanted to order more after finishing our dishes to which we were replied " Why didn't you order this item at first! NOW why??? It will take a lot of time so LEAVE IT" We have no complain about food but such rude behaved staffs should be changed and more staffs are required ๐Ÿ™‚

The place is easy to locate. The food is good but not worth all the hype it gets. You can definitely find authentic Chinese dishes here. It is quite decent but not at all delicious or mond blowing. But what is ruining the place to the ground is the staff behaviour. They have a weird 'notion' that you have got to order everything all at once . And if you dare to try to order anything else after that they will blatantly lie to you by saying that that item is not available anymore whereas you can clearly hear the server taking the same order from the next table . You'll think that you are eating for free by that server's attitude. My recommendation is to just order takeaway so you don't have to face this kind of behaviour. I wouldn't go there again. Not recommended.

Best wonton joint and one of the best authentic Indo-Chinese restaurant in town. Simple eating house situated beside Sea Ip Church, a Chinese cuisine lover must not miss. We had โ€ขSteamed Chicken Wonton which was the best I have ever had. It's damn delicious, juicy, in one word amazing. โ€ขChicken Hakka Noodles that was loaded with shredded chicken. And โ€ขChicken in Hamei Sauces. Must say there was something in the sauce. Garlic, dried chilli created a magic & try this with Tung nam signature sauce. It's wow. I was suggested this place to have authentic Chinese and so I went. We ordered steamed Pork Wanton, Chicken Fried rice, and sweet and sour Pork. The wanton was the stand out among them. The chicken fried rice was good, and also the Pork. Prices are very reasonable. You should definitely try them once.

Heard a lot about this place and so went there. It's not a restaurant, it's an eating house owned by a Chinese family. From my personal experience, try the Pork Wontons. It's the best thing you can get in this city. It was so juicy and soft and the stuffing was just wow. Other things I would rate a little lower because most of the dishes were like the meat/prawns were mashed and made balls with cornflour, so you can't get that taste. Best thing- Wonton, Chilli Pork Dry Fry.

Visited this old restaurant few days back as I've heard alot about this place . The place will give you a old school canteen vibe . Seating capacity is around 50 people so if you want to reduce waiting time for table visit as early as possible . We ordered : 1) Pork yaam wonton (5 / 5) { MUST TRY } 2) Pork fried wonton ( 4.5 / 5) { MUST TRY } 3) Mixed Fried Rice ( 4.5 / 5 ) 4) Dry chilli garlic pork ( 5 / 5 ) { MUST MUST TRY } 5) Chilli Chicken ( 3.5 / 5 ) โœ“The food quality is really very amazing โœ“ Ambiance is quite good โœ“ Wontons finish so fast so if you want to have them visit early . โœ“ Don't expect high end experience but if you're a foodie then it's the place for you โœ“ Quality and quantity both are great โœ“ 1 fried rice serves two people with moderate appetite โœ“ Pocket pinch 500 for two approximately โœ“ Waiting time is a bit long than usual which is totally okay for me as it's worth the wait โœ“ PLEASE CARRY CASH , THEY DON'T ACCEPT CARD OR ONLINE TRANSACTION โœ“ Try to reach within the 30 minutes from the opening time as it' gets crowded very fast . โœ“ All over great experience โˆ† How to reach ! 1) From howrah station take a bus and come to Poddar Court , it's in 3-5 minutes walking distance 2) Nearest metro station is Central . Come out from 5 number gate and walk towards Chattawala Gully . 4-5 minutes walking distance .

It's a wonderful place to have some authentic Chinese dishes. The owner is very disciplined and keeps the place clean and tidy. A true hidden gem and an iconic place of kolkata. Most humble place serving finger licking authentic Chinese. We ordered fried chicken wontons, really addictive, comfort bowl of steamed and soupy wontons. Packed some chicken noodles and chilli fish. Everything tasted good. Quantity perfect for 2 people. The oldest restaurant at the Chinatown of Kolkata. The prices r quite reasonable and the quality of food is great too. The blend of Indian culture into Chinese spices is pretty evident. The place has strict timing policies though 12-3 pm and then again from 6-9 pm. The business is managed by a lady and she herself brings you the food. Nice experience.

Reasonable price, authentic Chinese food, 500 for two people is more than enough. It is not a restaurant but a eating house. Portions of rice's and noodles are very good. So, think twice before ordering more. One plate of rice is sufficient for two people. Overall, old kolkata charm and authentic Chinese food on a rainy day will be a time worth having with the friends and family. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pork dishes are awesome. Chilli pork and wantons are a must. Wanton gets out of stock very fast.

Ambience: It is an old restaurant and the decor reflects that. Clean place. No AC. Service: Sometimes it is tough to get the attention of the only waiter who is managing the entire place. You may have to wait unless you catch his attention. Food comes out at a good pace. Food: It tastes alright. Nothing extraordinary. Price-wise I will say it is on the higher side as there is no AC and they accept only cash so avoiding tax. We tried: Fried wontons 3/5 Chicken fried meifoon 4/5 Chicken in Hamei sauce 3/5 Hongkong chicken 3/5

The meifoon and Port was excess oily. Chicken meifoon was blant in taste but the blant taste contemplated the chilli garlic pork. Soup and wanton ( both fried and boiled) was superb. The location of the restaurant is very shabby and unhygienic. The service staff was a bit rude. He didn't any idea how to handle clients rather his behavior suits road side vendors attitude. The interior, atmosphere, the furnitures, the utensils were not at all upto its fame.

Recently I have been to Tung Nam after hearing from many of my friends. Being a chef, I have tasted foods from many cultures and so I was aware of the ambience of a typical Chinese in house restaurant. Speaking of the decor, it was likely a semi illuminated house hall turned into a restaurant. Now for the food part. I really liked the way they have managed to amalgam the Indo-Chinese fusion. This restaurant has an array of authentic Chinese and Indo-Chinese foods. Pork Chilly being the cheery on the cake. Kaptai Ham Choy Rice nicely bears the flavor of the pork giblets. Yaam Wonton was very soft succulent and was full of juicy pork mince. Price wise its a pocket friendly place. All in all this restaurant has surely made a place in my Chinese eatery list. Must try items are: Pork Chilly Kaptai Ham Choy Rice Yaam Wonton Pork Wonton Soup Mixed Hot & Sour Soup Mixed Steam Rice Prawn Garlic Sauce Pork Hamei Sauce Mixed Fried Rice Mixed Hakka/Gravy Noodles Mixed Yaam Mein

What an incredible dining experience in such a small restaurant. There are hardly 8 tables in the restaurant and there was a long queue on a foggy Sunday afternoon. But patrons still waited for 30-60 mins to eat here. There is no decor as such and if you are a food enthusiast, decor and ambiance takes a backseat. There are only 2 waiters doing the job of 6. We savored chicken dumpling soup, chilli garlic pepper chicken, chilli pork, mixed Mei fun, chicken in Hamey sauce, and steamed rice with chicken โ€“ each dish was superb, featuring minimal coating and less oil. Highly recommend it to fellow food enthusiasts; be mindful that some dishes lean towards a semi-authentic Chinese taste, so choose wisely.

It's best to take the metro or some other conveyance, as parking can be a challenge in this congested area. Service is quick and efficient, in a typical East Asian manner, under the ever watchful eye of the owner. Delicious food, great serving size and reasonably priced. Be prepared for a wait.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Tung Nam, one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Kolkata. Run by a Chinese family, this place offers a wide variety of delicious Chinese cuisine at budget-friendly prices. While the restaurant may not boast a luxurious ambiance, it more than makes up for it with its authentic flavors and friendly service. Tung Nam's limited seating arrangements can be a bit challenging, especially during peak hours and weekends. Due to the limited number of seats, it tends to get crowded quickly. So, I would suggest planning your visit accordingly or making a reservation in advance. The restaurant's shady ambiance may not appeal to everyone, but it is important to remember that people flock to Tung Nam primarily for its mouthwatering food rather than its decor. Once you take a bite of their authentic Chinese dishes, you'll understand why it's been a favorite among locals for decades. One dish that I highly recommend trying is their Ride Noodles. The flavors are rich and the noodles have the perfect texture. Additionally, Tung Nam offers a diverse range of options including pork, chicken, vegetable, and prawn/fish dishes, ensuring there's something for everyone's taste. Parking can be a slight issue, as the restaurant only offers two-wheeler parking on the street, which is chargeable. Finding a spot for a four-wheeler can be quite challenging in the vicinity, so it's advisable to consider alternative transportation options or plan accordingly. In conclusion, Tung Nam is a hidden gem for those seeking authentic Chinese cuisine in Kolkata. The restaurant's affordable prices, wide variety of dishes, and friendly service make it a worthwhile experience. Despite the limited seating arrangements and lackluster ambiance, the flavors of their food will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression. Give it a try, and savor the delightful taste of Tung Nam's offerings!

I ordered the Wonton Yam mien, which was pretty good. If you are looking for an experience of Chinese food that is more authentic than usual fare, in terms of delicate flavour, this is the place to go! Basic seating arrangements. Quick service the day I went at least. Worth going back to, to try more of their dishes, of which there are plenty!

Have heard a lot about this restaurant before, hence this was in our list for long. I would say most of the food items are very average except few specific one probably. We had ordered mixed fried rice and hong kong chicken and fried chicken wong tong. Mixed fried rice- the prawn in the rice was not fresh. Firstly I thought it was my wrong assumption but later everyone in group confirmed the same. Hong kong Chicken - 3.5/5. Chicken wang tong- 3.5/5. I have eaten Chinese in many famous restaurants in Kolkata, I would say this was a very average one ( experience may vary with respect to time). Though very pocket friendly place. Online payment or card payment is not available. Only cash is accepted here which we felt very problematic.

Went there after seeing reviews on YouTubes. Worst I would say!! The food was totally tasteless.we tried chicken fried rice which was okayish nothing special about it. Then we had pork Manchurian which was worst as hell !! The pieces were very hard and it was also tasteless. In starters we had pork wontons , it was also tasteless. I don't know how people like this resturant. They charge packed drinking water above MRP. The service is also very slow, only one old man is there who was serving the plates. The sitting arrangement is also very poor. Overall the whole restaurant is bad and there is nothing special here.

โ€ผ๏ธThey have some specific timing โ€ผ๏ธ Please do check that before going to this place or else you have to wait for hours to get it reopened. What I loved about this place is the food items, especially pork items. The atmosphere is not that good. If you are a foodie like me who doesn't pay much attention to the ambience if the food is good, then you can surely go to this place. Dry roast chilli pork is what I'll recommend to you all ๐Ÿ˜‹

It was really our bad that we couldn't try the Wantons as we ended up there at their closing time so...it was our misfortune but would definitely visit again to have those! But otherwise the whole experience that we had....every single item is a must try...glad to find this! We tried Pork fried rice and chilli pork and chicken in Hamei sauces...and I'm literally running short of words to appreciate there taste. I must suggest this place as a go to place for every food lover as it'll gonna make you insane for it's pocket- friendliness and for its authenticity!

ใŠ™๏ธ|๐•ฟ๐–š๐–“๐–Œ ๐•น๐–†๐–’|ใŠ™๏ธ This place doesnt need any separate introduction. Best place for ๐Ÿ…Ÿ๐Ÿ…ž๐Ÿ…ก๐Ÿ…š lovers. At last my long lasting desire to visit this place was fulfilled. Went to Poddar court to buy some household stuffs. It was already late by the time we reached the place. But who would miss the chance to visit Tung Nam. Trust me we didnโ€™t regret visiting this place as many people say this place is overhyped. I will say NOT AT ALL! I simply loved all the dishes. As it was almost the closing time we didnโ€™t get Pork wanton and Roasted chilli pork which are their signature items. So here are the items we ordered: โ˜‘๏ธChilli garlic pepper pork: Very crispy, Juicy, tasty. Every bit melts in the mouth. โ˜‘๏ธ Chicken fried rice: Very light, less oily and little less salty. โ˜‘๏ธ Chicken hong kong: Very smooth non-spicy gravy and chicken pieces were tender and juicy. As we were very tired and hungry after the shopping, we finished the food in just 20 mins๐Ÿคช. The quantity was quite good for two. I will definitely recommend this place. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Address: Given in the menu card ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿปfor reference. #TFR

One of the worst restaurant for indo chinese. I've gone there on this Sunday. We waited for 1 hour and then got two seats for us.. The lady owner's behavior is too bad. The bathrooms are not properly well maintained. We've ordered fish mandarin and prawn rice. Rice was not properly cooked and the fish item was just disgusting.. I'll never go there anymore. This is too much overhyped. I'll not recommend this eating house to anyone.

๐Ÿ˜ Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee. The fish kaviraji was satisfactory. Despite the fact that there is a no-smoking sign on the premises, I observed people smoking...

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Recently visited this place and trust me, it was worth every penny. The ambiance was great. We had Mutton Chello Kebab. The kebabs were very juicy and tender, I couldn't stop drooling! The egg yolk was runny and just perfect. The rice portion had a nice fresh smell and all together it was magical in...
