One of the famous eateries in Kolkata to serve amazing fries, cutlets, chops ,kabirajis etc.. Located just at Sobhabajar Very easy to locate the place actually Tried special Diamond fry, chicken kabiraji and pudding there.. Pudding was the show stopper no doubt. Loved it like anything..

For an iconic and heritage cafe , the basic amenities like a washbasin was missing. The rates are on the higher side. I had chicken kobiraji which was tasty but very oily . They can drain the oil out before serving to customers. Better services are expected for such a heritage and famed restaurant of more than 100 years linage.

To be honest this Cafe is maintaining their quality undoubtedly. Unfortunately we didn't get Brain Chop. But their famous Diamond cut Fish Fry was just awesome...that coating was too thin n crispy....also liked their Fish roll which was stuffed with fresh Vetki Fish...their Mutton devil was tooo delicious... every stuffing had perfect balance of sugar and salt....we also tried mutton kabiraji which was good too.

I heard a lot about the place and always wanted to visit. Luckily I got a table without waiting. The place has two sections. The non AC section is outside and the AC section is inside. The place is really small. We had 🔹Fish fry - The fish fillet was of good proportion but the size was really small as per the price. The taste was average, nothing to mention as such. I have had better fish fry at many other joints. 🔹Fish Roll - I was highly disappointed with this. The stuffing of the fish was too less and the taste was a little bit too sweet for me. Overall the experience was average and a bit disappointing. The fish fry was better than the fish roll but looking at the pocket pinch it was not worth it. Somewhere I feel the quality has dropped in recent times.

Visited in Nov 2023 This was the first time I visited the Sovabazar Mitra Cafe outlet which is the original outlet since 1910s. Otherwise I have usually gone to the Jessore Road outlet. Somehow I felt that the quality of food at the Sovabazar outlet is better than the Jessore road one. I ordered the fish fry, chicken cutlet, mutton egg devil, mutton cutlet and mutton kabiraji. Every item was good, esp the mutton egg devil and the fish fry, both of which you should must try. The space inside is very small and there aren’t many seats. Hence, I just did a takeaway. This Mitra Cafe outlet at Sovabazar is a definite recommendation for any person visiting the City of Joy.

The space was small, but the quality and quantity of the food were good. The seating arrangement was not adequate to welcome a large number of guests at a time. As of when we last visited, we had to share a table with other guests. Although we didn't get to taste many dishes, all the dishes have been sold out except mutton cutlet, kabiraji, prawn cutlet, and kabiraji. Evening time was a rush hour, so if you want to try and test all the dishes or want to have good options to choose from the menu, Then it was recommended to reach them by 6 p.m.We went there at 7:30, and by then everything had just sold out. As a result of which we didn't get to see the menu. So, we had what was available then.

This is very old and authentic place to have real bengali good . We had cutlet and mutton kasha , taste wise it was real bengali style cooked and the atmosphere is also nice . I love those kind of old and authentic places where you will get real taste of Bengal. Recommend to go there and try all the food specially Katha mangsha,.

Went to this iconic food joint for the first time with high expectations hoping to gather some good experiences of this highly talked about restaurant. We reached the restaurant at around 5:30 PM in the afternoon on a weekday and couldn't find a to sit. The seating area was very small (it could hardly fit 15 customers at a time in total) and after waiting for about 15-20mins, we were given a seat on what was previously a window slab. Though I'm not complaining much about the seating arrangement as it a century old joint, but I think the owners should put a little thought on how the space can be utilised maximally. Now coming to the food, it was in a word MIND-BLOWING! The food served was fresh, fried in front of us. The taste was very unique and I highly doubt you'll find anywhere else in Kolkata. We had ordered: Fish Roll, Special Diamond Fry (pure Bhetki was used), Mutton kabiraji, Brain Chop, Fowl Cutlet, Fish Finger and to end it with something sweet, Choco Pudding (highly recommended). Our total was around ₹1200/- The revised prices were a bit high but still affordable. Overall, I had a good experience, dining at one of the most heritage eateries of North Kolkata and would definitely recommend people from the city and also from outside to try it at least once.

Cool experience. Food was served very quickly and it was good too. We ordered Fish Fry , Fish Kabiraji and Fish Fingers. All were good. But I felt this place is little over priced, maybe due to their fame. But food was awesome. Staff behaviour was good. They accepted credit card payment.

Food quality is not so good. I went in Shovab azad outlet but to be honest quality is below to average. As per quality price is little bit high in compare to others restaurant. Should improve the quality as it is one of the heritage cafe in our state.

Mitra Cafe in Sovabazar, Kolkata, is a nostalgic delight. Steeped in history, this charming cafe exudes vintage charm and offers a culinary journey through time. Timeless taste of their snacks, Mitra Cafe encapsulates the essence of old-world Kolkata. A must-visit for those craving a taste of tradition in a warm and inviting setting. Getting a table might be challenging but worth it.

Mitra cafe holds up to it's reputation every time I visit. Tried Prawn cutlet, Foul Cutlet, Diamond Kabiraji and Fish fry. Foul Cutlet was a bit underwhelming, due to some overdoing of marination I suppose. Don't mind the mango juice, it was homemade.😁

I went there with my friend for first time after hearing so good reviews about this cafe. But it didn't across the same. I am highly disappointed and dissatisfied with the dishes served. We ordered Fish kabiraji, diamond fish fry, gondhoraj chicken pakora. There was too much oil on pakora plate. Fish kabiraji had so oil. Diamond fry was good. We both liked it. Overall our experience was not good.

Foods are so delicious. Their services are excellent. Please try diamond fish kabiraji and a big pudding. Their behavior is very good. Fish quality is awesome. Please try to arrive early as it gets very crowded. There are so little place. It's a problem, but their services, food quality and quantity and maintain goodwill are awesome. I went to their shobha bazar outlet, it's fantastic. 😘 I am sharing my experience.

Want to have a cabin experience..well you got Mitra Cafe. One of the most oldest cabin out there, Mitra cafe will definitely blow your mind with its dope delicacies. The space inside is definitely not ample and it's really an issue if there's a lot of people which is the case pretty much all the time since it's a very renowned joint but the food is really amazing. And this is one cabin of Kolkata which is expanding and opening up several different branches at different spots across the entire city. Although this one i visited to is the one from where the legacy started. If you're anytime around Shobhabazar and want to fill your tummy with some good snacks then this is definitely the spot.

The renovated decor brings the diner back to old Calcutta, with brightly painted walls and pseudo wooden windows. It contains a Non-AC and an AC section. Seating capacity is very low, although. The service is quick, and the quality of food served is great as usual. Ordered Diamond Fish fry. It was amazing.

A lovely place for all the bong people. This place is famous for it's authentic items which they have been serving since the last 133 years. Fish cutlet & mutton kabiraji is a must try item. Not a very cheap price but reasonable for the quality. They'll take hardly 10 mins to serve your ordered items. A must visit place if you are near Sobhabajar Sutanuti Metro Station.

What a great ambience ! The walls are painted in vibrant colours. Although it’s a very small eating joint - but it has memories in each of its corner. Its been serving the Kolkata foodies since 100+ years and is a must try to enjoy delicious food with a nostalgic touch. We had ordered fish kabiraji, chicken fingers, paratha and mutton handi. Totally loved the food & I would love to visit again. Thank you for the great service. Note: there will be waiting time in rush hours since seating capacity is less.

This place has always been famous for serving fries in the best way possible, I had tried out the diamond fish fry and the brain chop, the diamond fish fry encompasses their quality truly. The quality of the bhetki is inexplicably amazing and I do have a plan to visit it some time after the disaster is over us.

Worst food experience ever. Food quality is very poor. I ordered "Chicken Dopayaja" which is just some gravy and fried onion put into oil. There is no taste. The quality of the chicken is not good. Every item in the main course is over 200rs but the food doesn't deserve this. Even their signature item fish fry does not taste as good as before. Only the good part is the decoration and services. So, don't waste your money here. Rather than try out some small food corners near sovabajar metro. Thank you🙏

I am glad that I have been there. If I didn't go there I would not understand why they are so popular for over a hundred years. Their quality stands high but the price is affordable. Food test is another reason why they are still doing good business. Their atmosphere is nostalgic and wistful. Customer love to be there.

I went there to try their fish fry fresh and hot. It was delicious. The crust is crispy and although it's a fried food it's very light. Sitting there and enjoying the hot and fresh fry is the best. The place is easy to find as it's on the side of the main road. Service is really good. The place is busy and popular with lots of orders and many people coming to eat there.

Mitra Cafe 📍 47, Jatindra Mohan Ave, Raja Nabakrishna Street, Sovabazar, Shobhabazar, Kolkata, West Bengal 700005 Mitra cafe has already become a well known name in Kolkata. It is really famous for its fish kabiraji fish fry and various other fried snacks. This particular outlet is pretty small and cozy with a seating capatina of around 24-25 people. Table sharing is mandatory on highly crowded hours. Most of the items like fish ones are mostly out of stock after 8p.m. We could get our hands on the following items: Mutton Kabiraji- Mutton keema inside was fresh and juicy full of flavours. It was well complimented by the outer authentic kabiraji egg coating. Chicken Gondhoraj Pokora- It was the best out of the three. Crispy, light and airy coating outside and well marinated juicy chicken inside bursting with flavours of gondhoraj lebu. A must try. Mochar chop- The portion was huge. The outer coating was crispy as usual. It was stuffed with mocha, bits of peanuts and had a slightly sweet taste. Overall experience was great and the food was exceptionally good.

Authentic Food no need any seperate captions d promotion. However sometimes we need to convey our experience that's what the importance of this legacy food is. Just go and have Diamond Fish Kabiraji - it cost around 195 + 10 (tax) = 205.

A legendary one running since decades. It is getting expanded in the form of opening new branches not only in the state but in other states too. One of Kolkata's heritage cabin, you have to wait for your turn because of huge demand, me & my sister hoped in on Durga Panchami last year, the place opend at sharp 2pm, eventually we got a seat there, we ordered two Fish Kobiraji, the quality of the food was excellent, ambience looked average, the price of food was little bit higher. However, the service was good, teast of this place made it special thats why you should come this place again.

My rating is for their food delivery. I ordered 2 fish cutlet and 2 big fish kabiraji for Taking away for my guests at home. I specifically mentioned them pls pack in separate box along with kasundi so that every guest can have their own. Least expected was they will still get miser and pack only 2 small kasundi pack for all the items ordered costing me 540/-. They should understand that gone are the days when they were running monopoly in the market. Now same variety food are offered by various other vendors. They get so miser that doesnt bother about their loyal customer to feel them awkward back home before guests while serving big kabiraji with "no kasundi"! I will try not to pick item from Mitra for my guests in future

Had a good experience. Be it the kabiraji or the cutlet it was cooked to perfection. Prices are little higher than what I had anticipated. By the get-up and ambience it seemed like an affordable eatery to me. I guess a brand does hold its premium. Parking can be a little tricky, but if you have a two wheeler it shouldn't be a problem. They don't have much room for seating, so plan ahead of you're going there in peak hours or public holidays.

The fish fingers we had was quite average in taste but the fish kabiraji was really good. I've tried kabiraji in other places which were way too oily but this one here was just perfect and the fish just melts in your mouth. I think they should really improve upon their fish fingers instead of serving fish cutlets in the shapes of them. The inside and ambience might not look that great and seen quite cramed but it still manages to give an old calcutta look and feel which is nice. And also mughlai paratha was not available which was very disappointing
