Visited again after about 3 years and the food was still good. Rice is provided complimentary with curry. We had naan, tomato basil soup, paneer tikka and more. It's an ok place to have Indian food. I had dinner twice and food was not bad.. Definetly not too spicy. I was here recently for dinner and sat in their underground/basement section as their was a private event going on in the top.

Mantra is a fine Indian Restaurant that attempts to offer flavorful Indian food with great service and rich ambience. It more or less succeeds with occasional blips here and there. Food in general is really good but some dishes are disappointing. This place is popular for lunch buffet that offers unlimited food for under 15 dollars. It's a great value for money in the area where dinning tends to be not so cheap. There is a bar which offers extensive range of liquor and cocktails. Also, they have a small party hall where private parties can be hosted with an awesome pre-fixe menu for only 25 dollars per person. Overall this is a great restaurant to visit if you are in Jersey City!

Great food, horrible service .. 2 people would be constantly talking about what's not available and go and tell the customer an item is not there by 20 mins. There is a guy who keeps chiding employees In front of everyone. Ordered a chicken dish, kadhi pakoda (tasted like made of cashew gravy) and dal along with garlic and chilli naan. The food is savory and tastyz don't get me wrong on that's but the service is dismal.

I saw the reviews from earlier … most of them seemed like they were from several months ago… our meal was very different … and a positive experience. We ordered several items… They were all flavorful and delicious… However, I ordered one tandoori mixed item and we had no lamb on it - I asked about it they said it was not included … I didn’t press the issue. It’s only b/c of that I am giving them 4 stars. I give the food 5 stars. Hope this review is helpful.

Most of the Indian restaurants that I previously visited had good, bad and the ugly experiences with the food/ Staff/Ambiance. But on the other side Mantra Indian Restaurant located in Jersey city is really something that I am going to cherish for a long time. Me as Full time Non vegetarian and my wife being Vegetarian always been difficult to order food in any restaurant. But in Mantra both Veg/ Non Veg appetizers are amazing, especially "Tandoori Paneer" is as good as "Chicken Lollipop" and thats coming from pure meat lover. Main course is out of this world. Last but not least. Their Desserts are must try. If you are passing by Jersey/ New york. Do try their food. It all worth it.

Really yummy food with good ambiance. Highly recommend the Indo-Chinese, Curry and Tandoori options. Plenty of options for vegan/vegetarians as well. Super friendly staff who can accommodate your requests and recommendations. Good spot for private/corporate functions as well.

I came here with my wife and in-laws, and was concerned of their satisfaction. Well, they were not disappointed and I am glad it turned out highly satisfying. Mantra provides excellent variety of cuisine and service which is customized to one’s needs. We liked the main entrees and the dessert more. My mother-in-law particularly commented on the excellent taste of the food. We recommend it to everyone in the area and beyond, and will definitely come back. Thank you!

Horrible service. Food too spicy besides ordering mild. No service . Don’t come here. Worst of all there was hair in my food . Horrible wish I could give them 0 stars. They refused to refund food with hair in it as well. Not recommend at all

We celebrated my daughter's first birthday party on Apr 24th at Mantra. The party was perfect, thanks to the super courteous staff, yummylicious food and great ambiance. A special shout out for Mr. Pervez, who is the manager for this restaurant.. he was super supportive and helpful, starting from the planning days to the day of party. I would recommend this place 100%

We had a party for about 40 people in Mantra. The space was clean and the food - all the starters, main course and desserts were fresh and very delicious. All our guests had a wonderful time and meal. The service was amazing, right from the planning to the execution. All the servers - Imtiaz, Praveen and Hema were very very helpful. The owner Senthil was around on the event day and ensured we had everything we needed.

Hosted a birthday party in the basement. The air conditioning doesnt work. They had put up two table fans in the basement still they say everything is fine and do not accept fault. Being basement lights are not enough. Service is equally bad. Appetizers served 45min late in 3 hour event. No one to look after as every one is busy serving take away orders. Giving one star for chef as quality of food was the only positive. People at the event loved the food. They charge you for 30 people but the hall is good enough for 20/25 guests max. Be careful and look for other options.

It is a nice spot for Indian food in prime location. The exchange place boardwalk is just 2 blocks away. The ambience is very warm and welcoming and their servers are quite hospitable and friendly. The food was quite nice in terms of quality and taste although they could do better with the portion size of their entrees. Would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for good Indian food in the area.

The food IS Excellent! Superb! Tops! Best in class. Best in the neighborhood. I want to direct IV the Tica Masala sauce in my carotid. HOWEVER, it is as if they know not what good customer service at a restaurant is, nor do they care. Walk you to your table, attentiveness, welcoming politeness, food presentation. speed of food delivery. If only... Chances are we won't go back. Ok, maybe once a year. Maybe it's a culture and language problem. In that case, HIRE A HOST.

The food is so good! We will definitely get takeout from here! The ambiance was awful dining in! There were only 3 groups eating, and we were all seated at tables next to each other in and otherwise very large and empty room. There was no music playing and it was so quiet, and it really felt like we were all eating together and listening to each other's conversations. The most awkward experience I've had in a long time!

Everything was so so delicious! Garlic naan is to die for. Amazing place!

Worst restaurant to eat! Fell sick after eating food. Stale meat. The green chutney was many days old. The staff was demanding extra cash as tips, claiming that the manager has not paid them salary in over a year. The department of labor must look into this. This place must be subject to a number of health code violations. Poor hygiene with staff and food. The man was smelling as he had not bathed in a week. He claimed that due to lack of money he was not able to pay rent and is living out of his friends Apt with no change of clothes.

Many years ago this was my favorite spot. Went for lunch today and buffet was the only option. After sampling most of the items, I had to walk out and get lunch at another place. It was that bad. I wouldnt have guessed that it was biryani if I hadn’t seen the name card. Every chicken dish was flavorless. Would never dare to try here again.

Almost 23$ for a chicken biryani which is very mediocre. We find a RAT scurrying around in the dining area. We could barely eat anything after and rushed out duly paying the check. Service was good but I wouldn't come back after my the experience.

Solid and authentic. This place has an amazing lunch buffet that for the price is just perfect. The food is true to it's roots from India. You can taste every spice in each dish. I would also have to say they have hands down the best Naan bread in JC. The selection changes slightly ever so often but the core dishes are the same and it's amazing. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly but they understand stay out of the way unless a patron needs something. There is a nice vibe will good music but I must say the music has to be a new touch. I am probably going to be in there twice a month if they keep up the selection and service.

This place should not be serving indian food. Being indian, the food is flavorless, thick and not spicy at all. Go to Little India instead. The service was slow and the management still made me pay for the awful dishes. Never again

Worst Indian buffet in and around the area. I can't believe the business is still open with this kind of food quality and service. Again I would never go back to this place for both bad service and food quality.

The buffet food was ok, not too great. But, good place to organize events for 30-40 people. The food served in the events were quite good and there is good collection of vegetarian items.

We reserved the downstairs area for my daughter's birthday party. We were pretty impressed with the food and the service. Mr. Parvez is a delight to work with. We chose to have Guacamole sev puri, dahi ke kabab and chilly paneer for appetizers, dal tadka, asparagus kofta, achari veg and kadhai paneer for mains with assorted bread and jeera rice, mango mousse and crème brûlée for dessert with soda and mango lassi for drinks - all of which was delectable and flavorful. Overall it was a pleasant experience with good food and good ambience.

We hosted our son’s first birthday party here. Had zero issues and the event was very professionally managed. Food was delicious and service was great. A very special shout out to Parvez for being so hands on and available. A must go to restaurant in JC.

Lemon coriander soup is a yummy appetizer. Sham savera a great entree if you like rich main course. Decent staff. Expect some wait time as good food takes time to prep. Enjoy the ambience and go with groups to have company.

Place is clean and good vibe but the food lacked the taste like salt and spices wasn't there ...being a punjabi the north Indian food just threw me off ..food presentation and the guys in there were really good giving 3 star just for food presentation and for the guys working in there

Spectacular food and amazing Indian flute music. Strongly recommend this place for anyone trying out Indian food, they don't serve drinks, but it's BYOB and there's a liquor store around the corner. We went there on a Thursday evening for dinner as my significant other liked Indian food and wine. Pleasant ambience, courteous staff and delicious food, the lentil soup is a must try.

Great goat curry, slightly spicy but very flavorful, fall-off-the-bone tender. The naan was nicely slathered with ghee. I also had an okra appetizer. The okra pods were thin-sliced lengthwise and fried to a crisp, perfectly seasoned with a coriander chutney.
