The view alone is worth the visit. The castle in itself didn’t have much to see though it is in excellent condition. It is huge and proudly sits watching over Naples. Take the Funicular up and walk down. The neighborhoods near the castle seem a different world from Naples.

I had a great time visiting Castel Sant'Elmo. The castle sits atop a hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Naples and the sparkling sea. The sight of the azure waters meeting the coastline is simply mesmerizing. Exploring the castle itself was a unique experience, with its intricate architecture and rich history. It's definitely worth a visit if you want to soak in the beauty of Naples and enjoy the magnificent sea view. Don't miss out on this gem!

The castle is interesting. You can get to the top of the castle at see the whole city of Napoli. The ticket was 6€ and there is no guide. You can visit it on your own. This was probably the most interesting castle we visited in Naples. I think they have 7 of them.

Not to miss! Most interesting castle with fantastic panoramic view to admire the beauty of Napoli from above. The castle is well preserved and the signage in English are adding a lot of interest. Just take the funicular and you’ll be there in less than 10 min. Allow at least an hour and if you get tired there’s a nice caffe in the middle with tables to sit. Recommended also with kids. Accessible for blind with braille code on the railing depicting the views.

    1. Tickets are 5 euros. 2. Tickets can be purchased in cash. Tickets cannot be purchased with a bank card. 3. Cell phone reception is very poor, so it is not possible to book tickets online at the site. 4. Inside the building looks like you are entering a huge abandoned building (because of the graffiti on the walls). 5. there is a bar and toilets at the top of the building and what appears to be a museum ....... 6.From the top of the building you can look out over Vesuvius.(I think it's a great viewpoint) 7.If the weather is bad, I recommend you to cancel your trip 8.I recommend coming here in summer to watch the sunset Giving 5 stars is to support the staff, who are really kind and friendly!

Lovely place to visit once you plan your vacations in Napoli. It is a masterpiece and a panoramic point over the whole city and the coast. I loved coming here to take some pictures with the landscape of Vesuvio and Ischia. Plan your trip including this place during you staying in Napoli. I loved it! The ticket is just 2,5 euro, museum not included

What a nice place! It has by far the best views of Naples as you can see in any direction. Price was 5 euros but totally worth it. I suggest to head there in afternoon as you will blessed by amazing sunset views and also the Vesubius.

I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets in my life here. Unfortunately volcano area was a little cloudy that I couldn't have a amazing view of it. So you better to check the sky before you go. Castle has very flexible working time so I think here is best option to watch the sunset in the city.

Excellent castle to visit on top.of hill for beautiful views. We took metro from our Disney cruise port to a Metro station about 12 mins walk to the castle. Not much to see inside really but the outside walls and beautiful views are worth a visit.

The view is just spectacular. It’s amazing. So many pictures worth the climbing up and the climbing down. Just note that the journey up and the journey down is something to consider. Not for anyone with knee issues. It’s steep and it’s a lot of walking. The view from the top is so worth the pain tho :)

Getting to this castle is a battle with the stairs, but brace yourself for the reward. The panoramic view of Naples with Vesuvius in the background makes it all worthwhile. Truly breathtaking!

Easily the most beautiful place in Naples! Nothing compares with the views from the top of it, Naples on your palm, stunning beauty! 5€ is nothing for the goosebumps you get when you climb up the castle.

  • 5/5 Jarrod H. 10 months ago on Google
Worth the €6 admission just for the amazing 360° views! Take the funicular to the top to save some steps, then soak in the views of Napoli, Vesuvius and surrounds. Not that much to see otherwise, but you won't get a better view point in the whole city

Walk up…. Best walk ever but you need to be fit! The view of ALL Napoli is second to none. We were in awe. The top of the Castle where you walk around is gigantic and allows you to see 360 degrees of landscape! Do not miss it! A must for the first day of stay!

My favorite spot in Napoli, a nice break from the noice and chaos that sovereign the city. The best part is what nature offers, the view and the shades of the sunset. Can't get enough of it. Perfect place for conversations or deep introspection.

Definitely take the funicular up as opposed to the steps and take the steps down through the Spanish Quarter. Interesting to see with spectacular views, however, it really is only access to the outer walls and inner courtyard of the castle. Small museum in the courtyard was not for me as the paintings and sculptures were really weird. Worth a visit but have been to far better castles.

The best view of the town and bay in Naples. An absolute must when you are in town. Ideal for sunset , the last entry is at 18h30 and the place closes at 19h30. There is nothing to visit inside the castle, but the view from the top. The ticket of 3,50 euro for an adult is perfectly adequate. You climb the ramp for 15 minutes and then are rewarded by a spectacular view. Ideal is to take the Funicular to the nearby station.

From its walls a 360 ° view of the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius in the distance. To reach it I used the funicular departing from the small local train station of Montesanto, you can get on with a normal bus ticket (€ 1.10) which can be purchased at the tobacconist's on the ground floor. From the arrival station is an easy walk. After visiting the castle and the nearby "Certosa di San Martino" I walked back to the center using the "Pedamentina di San Martino" and I crossed other tourists who were climbing, it was one in the afternoon the temperature of 36 ° the staircase under the bright sunshine, believe me, they were very sweaty and tired. To go up in these conditions, consider using the funicular or other public transport.

The castel is OK, great to walk around. But there is nothing in there, not even an exhibition or museum or something interactive. Not tourist friendly, nothing written in English. It has a nice view for sure.

One of the best attractions in Naples we visited on our short stay. Amazing 360deg views from the castle walls. You don’t have access to the inner rooms of the castle but it’s the view you come here for. We took advantage of the reduced entry price after 16:00. Adult price EUR3.50 inc the EUR1 supplement that is currently being applied to many historic sights in Naples. We booked online but I can’t see that it was particularly necessary. Highly recommended.

Very nice castle on the top of hill, beautiful 360° view of the city. There are some informative signs about history. Entrance is 6 euros per person. Avaiable reduced price for young adults (up to 24 with valid EU ID). There is a gallery at the top with an exhibition of modern art. Free toilets. There was not an access inside the castle but it os worth the money

This castle is nice to see. Well maybe it’s not the best place in Naples, there are castles better preserved, but, just for 5 euros, you’ll enjoy the most nice panoramas of the entire gulf of Naples. I loved taking nice pictures and see how Vesuvio is huge and incredibly close to the city.

Another fort with a view. We walked about 1k of steps to get there, but it is also accessible by public transport. I recommend walking if you can, and the walk up if you can do it, as the narrow cobbled stairs and streets have a great view, and take you through a part of old napoli not always seen in tours. Castle has gorgeous 360 vista of naples, the bay, and, of course Vesuvius. We went on the first Sunday of the month, when its free. Well worth the visit,

The view from above was spectacular, but that was all there was to it. You don't have anything castle-like inside like exhibitions or anything. We walked all the way up from Via Toledo to the castle and it was pretty tough. I recommend take the funicular. 6 Euro entry.

We ascended to a breathtaking vantage point overlooking Naples and the surrounding islands. Our journey began with a ride on the funicular, roughly 15 minutes in duration (follow the signs for guidance). The entrance fee was a nominal cost, granting us access to the rooftop where we were treated to an awe-inspiring panoramic view. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience!

If you are looking for a day trip to a Castle, you shouldn't go here. Yet, for the beautiful overview of the City you definitely should. An adult ticket is €2.50, which is the reason there is barely and information.

I think this is the only place where you can see a 360 degree panorama view of Naples. It's an amazing scenery, worth bringing your binoculars if you have some, but there are some paid ones on top if not. The museum also has some nice paintings even if not they many, it's a nice bonus. Easily reachable by two funicular lines and then a 10 minute walk.

This castle is perched on top of a hill overlooking all of Naples and much of the Amalfi coast. I highly recommend visiting this place as you can walk throughout many places in the castle and along the fort walls. It's a wonderful experience.

Perched high above the city, Castel Sant'Elmo offers an unrivaled vantage point. On a clear day, visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramas of Naples, the majestic Vesuvius, and the tapestry of surrounding cities. The castle itself is a testament to the rich history of the region, beckoning travelers to dive deep into the annals of time. However, a word to the wise: the journey to this magnificent viewpoint involves navigating steep cobblestone paths. It's a small price to pay for such a rewarding experience. With every step, you're ascending towards one of Naples' most spectacular views. An absolute must-visit.

Beautiful view of the city and the golf of Napoli. I was told the sunset over the sea is amazing, but during Summer it's impossible to see it from the castle, since it closes at 18:30 and the sunset is way later. I don't recommend going if you are already tired, you have to walk a lot uphill. Take some comfy shoes and enjoy!

  • 5/5 Natinho L. 7 months ago on Google
Way up is hard but worth the views from inside the castle. You can get tickets at the gate. We got there via the funicular Montesanto, a nice experience and you can use your visa to tap in, but remember to tap out on exit. Around the entrance of the castle you find some lively restaurants worth checking out. The castle itself is a great surviver, bit dilapidated like the town, but that's the charm. On return I would advise taking the Metro as the other Metro station down the funicular have 1 ticket machine and it is always a long queue.

Castel St. Elmo is amazing. It has some of the best views of Naples, the bay and Mount Vesuvius. I have so many pictures from the walls of S. Elmo. When we went on a Sunday we were surprised to be told entry was free! I think the ticket price is only a few euros. Well worth a trip up on the funicular to lovely Vomero to visit. Could do with more benches and shade!

  • 3/5 Emily H. 6 months ago on Google
Honestly I’m my opinion it’s not really that interesting nor pretty. Only reason I suggest going is the amazing views! That is definitely breath taking especially seeing the skyline in combination with planes starting or the mountains and sea in the background. Also, if you go I suggest going late. First of all tickets are cheaper then and second you can seem amazing sunsets! Really one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen (the photos really don’t do it justice).

  • 4/5 Aleksandar I. 4 months ago on Google
A nice castle from which you can see Naples and its surroundings. The ticket is worth it only because of the view from the castle walls. Great for photographing the landscape of Naples and nothing else. The castle is colossal, but no exhibition or historical objects exist inside. Below the castle there is a terrace within the street, there is no charge, but you can see only the center of the city and not the side towards the sea.

  • 5/5 Legends l. 6 months ago on Google
Great place for a panoramic view of Napoli. Breathtaking views including Vesuvius on a clear day. Temperature can be slightly cooler at the top. Sunset is beautiful. You can meander down hill through the cobbled streets of Napoli. You can get the funicular from Via Toledo or Montesanto. Montesanto is closer.

  • 4/5 Ciprian B. 8 months ago on Google
Great place to see in Naples. The view is stunning. From the city center, you have to walk some distance to get here, but its worth it. I had a lot of trouble getting the tickets. They are not accepting credid cards. Be careful to have small bills, beacuse they refuse to give you change 😡

If you want to have the most beautiful view ever, go there! Especially for the sunset! You will see all sides of Naples, the islands and the sea! For Europeans under 25 the entrance is 2€ Besides that, the place only has a little art museum and a café with a great view and reasonable prices!

  • 4/5 Maxou 2 years ago on Google
Nice castle that gives a really nice point of view over Napoli. The panoramic view of the surroundings is great! Except that, not so much to see there

  • 5/5 Ivelina Y. 9 months ago on Google
It really is worth it! I quite enjoyed the atmosphere and the views are just stunning! If you want to see Naples from above and combine it with visiting a cool place, this is it! It is also a great value for the price, we paid for a reduced ticket for EU citizens aged 18-25, which was only 3 euros, but even with the normal price - 6 euros, I would definitely recommend it! No need to pre-book.

Castle Sant'Elmo offers a captivating blend of history and breathtaking views. The fortress itself is a beautifully preserved piece of Naples' past, with well-preserved architecture and informative exhibits. However, it's the panoramic vistas of the city and the bay that steal the show. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone seeking a unique perspective of Naples.

  • 5/5 Diana O. 7 months ago on Google
Speechless.....! The panoramic view is simply breathtaking. There's a beautiful view from the base of the castel but nothing compared to the view from up top! Best $6 I've ever spent! Dress in browns, orange & greens and bring your camera for some phenomenal shots! 📷

3€ admission to go in. Definitely a hike to get there, and I didn't go with a group, so I didn't get much of the history, but it was a great castle that seemed that it would have done a good job repelling anyone trying to take it

  • 5/5 Luana B. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely a must go places when visiting Napoli. We went early in the morning and we had the entire place to ourselves. You pay 5€ and you can do the tour of the castles wall until the top of it where the village was in the past and you have a 360 view of Naples and the islands. Just breathtaking!

Whether u live in Naples or r just visiting the town, an hike all the way up to the top of Castel Sant'Elmo is simply a must. Once u reach the Piazza d'Armi, the 360 degrees view of Naples is breathtaking and leaves u speechless, lost between the Vesuvius and Capri, that lazy lies over the ocean with its beautiful mairmaid profile. Don't drag your feet but rush over there and simply enjoy.

The way up the access routes to this castle offers magnificent views and upstairs you have 360 degrees view of surroundings. Beautiful all day, we caught it a bit after sunset. Very cheap ticket!

  • 5/5 Craig D. 2 years ago on Google
A wonderful view of Naples and the Mediterranean sea. Only 2.50 euros per person. There isn't that much to see in the castle but going for the view is worth it. The bathrooms are at the tippity top.

Great 360 panoramic view! I would say the best in the city. In November quite windy but not crowded - comfortable to take pictures. Entrance fee.

Castle is perfectly located on top of a hill and you get marvellous views to Naples and Vesuvius. In order not stay disappointed take into consideration that castle itself is just an empty building.

  • 3/5 Ogenia S. 2 years ago on Google
Only saw from outside. Beautiful view of the city. Walked down by foot on stairs was quite difficult and took about 25 minutes. Better to go back with the Funicular liked the original plan...

The castle doesn't have much to do. But it's an amazing structure. Massive. And the views from it are exceptional. You get a panoramic view of naples. Definitely worth visiting.

  • 5/5 Pedro L. 1 year ago on Google
Incredible views from Napoli coast and city. In a clear day you can see the islands. You can go up using the stairs but be prepared for a long climb. There is elevator/metro car that makes the climb easier. Take the time to enjoy the views. Free toilets are available on the spot.

  • 4/5 Tristan.V 1 year ago on Google
The castle was absolutely beautiful, the view was breathtaking. You can see all of Napoli from the castle. The entry fee is also really cheap (we payed 5 euros and got 4 tickets). The only reason why I give this 4 stars is because the way to the castle is really difficult/ rough (by food). So beware of that and bring enough water with you. I wasn't aware of this and suffered from the warm weather and tough terrain. You have to walk up to a kilometer and ca. 700 meters upwards.

  • 5/5 Julietta S. 2 years ago on Google
OMG!!! So outstanding view from here!!! Whole Napoli city on your hand! You need to provide a green pass (covid vaccination card), PCR-test doesn’t work to buy a ticket (August 2021).

Great place to see views of the city. You can go and experience all the beauty of Naples with a little hike to the top. The walk up is through the small streets, a lot of stairs, but it is extremely beautiful! Well deserved views at the end. And admission to the castle was very acceptable, 2.5 euros

  • 5/5 Anthony S. 1 year ago on Google
If you’re after amazing panoramic views of the city this is the place to be. You get 360 degrees and it’s stunning especially if you’re lucky to go on a sun day. The entry tickets are very cheap too considering what you see. The castle itself has not much to look at but go for the views!

  • 3/5 Helen V. 2 years ago on Google
Nothing there to see, but probably one of the best views on the cityscape of Naples. Unfortunately they closed before the sunset, so we couldn't stay for longer. Took some pictures and left. But I'm happy that we decided to visit the castle, because I wouldn't have come to this part of town which was quite interesting itself. Definitely something else from the city centre ;)

  • 5/5 Nina R. 2 years ago on Google
The best view on Naples! Absolutely worth the price. The territory is huge and gives 360* view opportunity

  • 4/5 Tom H. 2 years ago on Google
Some of the best views of Napoli can be found from the top of this castle. You can either walk up a bunch of steps and get a great workout in to get to the top, or you can take the funicular in the city up to the top. Either way, once your are here, the view is spectacular. There's really not much to see in the castle besides the walkways inside and the top courtyard. There are only a couple of interior spaces to view, entry is very inexpensive did the view is really amazing.

  • 5/5 QB1601 10 months ago on Google
Remember to reach the ticket office before 18:30 as that’s the last round before the castel is closed at 19:30! Amazing panoramic view of Napoli with very little crowd. Highly recommend for a nice escape from the bustling center.

  • 4/5 Ella H. 11 months ago on Google
This castle is definitely worth the visit when in Naples, especially during sunset. Beautiful views over the coast. I will say that you must be out before 7:30 (I think) as they will lock you in. You are allowed to buy tickets until 6:30, not sure exactly what time they close the gate. We went in for free on the first Sunday of the month, they didn’t tell us what time they closed and know one came around the castle to tell us to leave. We stayed to watch the sunset only to find ourselves locked inside with a electric gate on the way down with absolutely no way out and no staff around. Luckily a local was able to let us out from the outside eventually. It’s a big shame they don’t stay open during sunset hours as a lot of people were being turned away after 6:30.

a great panoramic view of whole napoli city along with nearby islands of capri, ischia etc and Mt Vesuvius form a single view place. Go for a funicular while going up and walk down the amazing street of cafés while walking down in return.
