This is one of a kind the murti of l Rama which I have seen which is black in colour. The temple is beautiful and made in black sand stone.. There are some renovations going on in the temple but it does not effect the travellers. A must visit place when you are in Nashik. Kalaram Temple entry movement formed a pivotal role in the Dalit movement in India. B. K (Dadasaheb) Gaikwad and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar led a protest outside the temple on 2 March 1930, in order to allowing Dalits into the temple. The movement was to have a right to enter temple, it was more towards having equal rights.

The Kalaram Temple is an old Hindu shrine dedicated to Rama in the Panchavati area of Nashik city in Maharashtra, India. It is probably the most important Hindu shrine in the city. The temple derives its name from a black statue of Lord Rama. The literal translation of kalaram is "black Rama". The sanctum sanctorum also houses the statues of the goddess Sita and the god Lakshmana. Thousands of devotees visit it every day.The original temple of Lord Rama was very old, estimated to be of the Rashtrakuta Period from 7th to 11th centuries. However, antiquity of the Rama idol threw light on the fact that it was more than 2000 years old. The original temple was destroyed by Muslim rulers and it remained in demolished condition. However, during the first Islamic attack on the Temple, the idol of Lord was thrown in the Godavari River by the Temple Brahmins in order to save it. The new temple was funded by Sardar Rangarao Odhekar, and was rebuilt around 1788. Once, Odhekar had a dream that the statue of Rama in black colour was in the Godavari River. He carried out expedition of reviving the idol and miraculously got it. Odhekar took the statue from river and built the temple. Odhekar's expedition is an important part of Nashik's history. There is a statue of Sardar Odhekar in the temple. According to ancient epic of the Ramayana, Lord Rama was sent in exile for fourteen years. After the tenth year of exile, Lord Rama along with Lakshman and Seeta, lived for two and half years on the northern bank of the Godavari near Nasik. This place is known as Panchavati. The temple formed a pivotal role in the Dalit movement in India. B. R. Ambedkar led a protest outside the temple on 2 March 1930, in order to allow Dalits into the temple.

Shri Kalaram Temple. One of the significant religious place in Nashik, Maharashtra. This temple derives it's name from the black stone idol of Shri Rama, moreover mostly all the idols of god, goddesses and even the temple itself is made up of black stone. Idols of Devi Sita, Shri Lakshumana, Shri Hanumana and Shri Ganapati are very beautifully sculpted are of the same type made up of black stone. There is an old and holy tree in the premises which said to have the footprint of Shri Dattatrey Guru, so footprint are engraved here. The temple premises is well design and maintained. This temple also shares its place in political history of India. In the year 1930 temple entry movement led by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in the protest to allow all lower caste people entry into the temples and also to use water from the temple premises.

It’s very old temple during Shri Ram’s era and where Shri ram , Devi sita and brother Laxman used to live here during vanvas time. Why we called kalaram temple because the murti of Shri ram is in black. It’s very peaceful place and wonderful design of the temple.

It's a very old temple in Nashik which is said to be the place where Shree Ram himself stayed during his Vanvasa along with wife Sita Mata and brother Laxman. Another historical reference is of Samarth Ramdas Swami who used to regularly visit this temple and offer prayers, as he had strong beliefs about this place and had experienced it first hand. There place is very well maintained. Since this happens to be in the heart of the old city, parking is an issue. However you can also get an shared auto ride (30rs per person, might change per season) which will arrange your visit to multiple such important places in and around old city. The idol is very beautiful. Current temple construction is from Peshwa period. It has beautiful fortification from all four sides. It feels very nice and calm to be inside the campus. A must visit place if you are in Nashik.

🌟 Loved my visit to Kala Ram Mandir in Nashik during Diwali! This ancient temple in Panchavati, by the Godavari river, is super special. It's like a cozy, peaceful spot away from the usual hustle. During Diwali, the temple was all lit up and looked so pretty. The whole vibe was like a warm hug. It was a chill break from the usual busy scene. What's cool is how this place brings people together. Lots of folks visit, and you can feel the good vibes. It's not just a temple; it's like a cool hangout for your spirit. If you're ever in Nashik, especially during a festival, give it a go
