Hands down one of the best fish and chips we've had in the Twin Cities. We came in the weekend of art-a-whirl and the food was great. It was a hot day and their beer selection is pretty good too. Staff was friendly and we were lucky we were able to get in so quickly as this place is busy and with a good reason. The fish and chips were really tasty and didn't disappoint. We will be back for sure!!!

Anchor is my favorite Fish and Chips place in Minneapolis! Every order of fish is hand battered and fried to order ensuring you only get the highest quality of food. Their portions are very generous and the food is top notch! Their house-made tarter sauce is killer and I always make sure to get two of them with my order one for the fish and another to dip my fries into! You can also order ahead and have hot fresh fish waiting for you to bring home or to one of the many breweries around like Dangerous Man down the street.

if you are gonna put it in the name then it better be good right? well they aren’t messing around because the fish and chips were on point! the batter was crisp and tasty while not being too heavy and the fish was full of flavor. that tarter sauce is legit too. the poutine was solid and our server was friendly and attentive. definitely my go to when i am craving some fried fish!

First, make sure to get a reservation. It’s a small building so there not a lot of booths if you are going with more than 2 people (plenty of bar seating thought) as it fills up quick for dinner. Second, they have one of the best fish and chips baskets I’ve had. I am not a fish eater and I usually need lots tartar sauce to eat fried fish, but I could eat this fish all by itself. I order a side of their curry and gravy. Both good, but the gravy is definitely better. If you prefer a quieter setting, make sure to sit outside (max is 6 total people outdoors) as it’s a bit noise indoors for conversation. All in all, great service and fish!

Great tasting Fish & Chips and the Veggie Pastie. Was thinking Pastie would be like a Japanese Croquette, but was pleasantly surprised by the spices incorporated into the dish.

Friday evening date night, fish and chips at The Anchor. Never having been to the Anchor I wasn't sure what to expect. We had a fabulous time! Setting was smaller and more intimate, attentive and friendly customer service, and the fish-and-chips were a '10'. We will definitely be back. I appreciated the focus on safety; I definitely felt like they cared.

First time at Anchor and a nice experience. Arrived a little after 5 pm and found a prime parking spot on the street right across from the restaurant. Wasn't busy at the time so we were seated right away at a high top next to the window that overlooked their little patio seating area. Service was excellent as our waitress took the order within five minutes after sitting down. Both of us had their fish fillet and fries. Fillet was deep fried, meaty and large, estimating at least eight inches in length. Tartar sauce provided for dipping and actually the fish had enough taste to avoid using it. Fries were thick and had almost a slight sweet potato taste. Overall I would rate it very highly for an actual fish and chips meal. One question is if it got busier where would you park? Got lucky since we came earlier in the evening. Might be walking a bit because I didn't see any off street parking. In addition if you are handicapped the main door looks reasonably small and not sure if you can pass through without problems. Good first impression at Anchor.and hope to stop in again real soon

I have found yet another place in the Twin Cities that I have to stop at every time I’m here. The menu is reasonably small which I prefer. What they do, they do so well! The atmosphere was identical to an adorable little English pub. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Even saw a sweet couple come in who made their reservation for the wrong day. Once they realized this, the hostess was kind and made sure they were accommodated anyway! I would suggest making a reservation here as it was quite busy. They do have bar seating which is reserved for walk ins if that is your preference.

Great Irish pub, currently decorated for Halloween as if this writing. Food was delicious, menu was pared down to specialties.

This is the best fish n chips I’ve had to date. It’s not the dish that I’d usually order off a menu at an establishment, but if they are of this quality I’d change my disposition. I’ve even been to London, and this beats the fish n chips there. Let me explain: First, the fish is firm. It doesn’t fall apart when you eat it, unlike most flaky fish. You can use your fork to separate it or eat with your hands without it crumbling into a mess of fishy flesh. Second, the fish is very flavorful. The balance of the breading and the fish itself is perfect. The most common issue with fried fish is that the breading takes over, and that it tastes like you were eating something too oily. This is not the case here. This is well-salted outside, and more importantly—what tastes like inside the breading (in the fish itself) too. Third, the breading is crunchy. This is not a “light“ breading, and actually has a substantial amount of crunch. This sets up a really nice contrast to the moist and tender fish inside. Many fish and chips do not achieve this level of crunch in their crusts, and often end up soggy. Fourth, the fries are actually quite good. Many times, fries feel like they are unseasoned or soggy. Fries here are neither of those. They are crisp and salted–just how I like them. Many restaurants consider fries an afterthought, but that does not feel like the case here. You’ll have to pay more for extras. For instance, I had to pay a little bit extra for tartar sauce. Thankfully, the tartar sauce was quite good. If you were to get an extra from the menu, I would recommend the curry. I was very surprised because it was not a combination I had considered before. An interesting aspect of this curry is that it is quite dense. I can tell there is quite a lot of biomass that was blended into the purée that is the curry sauce. It’s a very good combination with fries. I also tried the gravy, but it was not as noteworthy as the curry. I would recommend the curry over the gravy. In short, I recommend coming here. For the best fish and chips experience you may have in your lifetime, I believe the prices are fair and the value is good.

Thought they'd have malt vinegar but they served white vinegar instead. Had fish & chips and poutine. We are used to the cheese curds melting on/with the fries. Waitress & hostess were super nice. It was slow when we were there, and when we left; but reservations are encouraged. Bathrooms are roomy and accessible. Actually the restaurant doesn't have steps, but a few bumps for the thresholds. Suggest you put door hook on the back of bathroom door so us ladies who use purses or those of us who wear jackets in the winter don't have to put our jackets on the floor, thank you! Enjoy my photos.

Is there a sixth star?! We’ve been living in the States for over 12 years and been continually searching for some decent chippie chips … and here we have em! These are best chips we’ve tasted and the mushy peas were delicious! The only minor criticism of the battered sausage was the sausage was too meaty but other than a quality that you don’t normally get in a chip shop, this was fantastic! We will definitely be back 😍

Amazing! Having had fish and chips all over the US and Europe, this is still my favorite place. Both the fish and the chips are fried to perfection and will leave your stomach and mouth satisfied. If you have never been here, you are missing out. My only issue with this place... The charge for tartar sauce (it comes with none). Can I afford it? Yes, of course. Should I have to pay extra for tartar sauce? Of course not.

Everything you could want from fish and chips, done to perfection. The smell alone made me nostalgic for all of the fish fries I had been to as a kid. The fish was cooked amazingly with thick flakes and an even layer of batter, and the portion size was generous. I had ordered online for pick up, and it was a very straightforward experience with pick up through the back door. The food was extremely fresh when it was received, and was ready exactly when the online order had predicted.

Oh my cod… 🤯 it’s an understatement to say this filet floated our boats 🛥 😁 Fish and Chips with Coleslaw and Poitín Poutine 🐟 🍟 🧀 Holy buckets of tartar sauce and fresh coleslaw🪣 This was some of the best fried fish I’ve found. Perfectly moist and flaky, with a crunchy, light, golden-brown exterior that doesn’t take away from the filet. Lay it on top of fried-to-perfection steak fry-style ‘chips’ and sprinkle on some sea salt for a dinner that’ll make you want to sail away—in a good way :) And how can you go wrong with poutine?! At The Anchor, they top those same fries ^^^ with cheese aged in the sandstone caves of Faribault, Minnesota 🧀 and DRENCH it all in gravy, which is infused with Bent Anchor Poitín… stick with me, here’s where it gets interesting! So, what’s the deal with Poutín (Pot-cheen)? Bent Brewstillery teams up with The Anchor to produce MN’s first Irish-style moonshine-like drink. It is made with the very potato peels that result from The Anchor’s recipes! Resourceful, yes — but also “deliciously smooth, earthly… slightly smoky… with a full-bodied finish and just a hint of rounded sweetness,” At least according to their website 🥃 Both fish and fry fanatics must find a time to dock at this delicious destination 🚢 I know I’d drop anchor at such a hidden gem any time!

Fantastic fish and chips. Probably the best this side of the pond. The crew is friendly and actually care about their customers. I was recently in the MSP area for 2 days and made it a point to go both days. The Shepard’s Pie is wonderful too. Make it a point to check them out.

Searched best fish and chips and the Anchor came up. I have never been happier in my life. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer. That was delicious. My son ordered the toasty. I ordered the fish by itself, which was amazing, a side of tartar sauce, mushy peas, absolutely delicious, and a meat pastie, which was decently good, but the fish took the prize for me. Dining is out back in a white tent type of situation. They have fans blowing, so there is a circulation of air. All in all... if I get another chance to go back, I'm definitely going here everyday. Do not miss the chance to go.
