The area doesn't look huge. It's located in a narrow lane where parking is an issue. But forget all that. Once you step inside you'll discover a whole world of amazing idols, historic objects, ancient paintings, musical instruments and much much more. It closes at 5.30 pm and the ticket is Rs 100/- for adults. We reached around 4.00 pm and had one hour time with us. We thought we'll easily see it all, but by 5.00 pm we realised we had to rush through the last 3 sections and needed 30 more minutes to fully see and appreciate the amazing collection by Raja Dinkar Kelkar. A must visit!

Boasting of spectacular architecture, the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is one of the things to see in Pune if you want to delve into Indian history and explore the fine artefact collections from decades and centuries ago. Housed within the massive establishment are over 20,000 pieces, divided into different exhibits and wings. These collections include the original interiors and furnishing from the Mastani Mahal, ancient warfare like darts, swords, spears and shields that were used in actual battles, a textile zone which showcases the fashion and styles worn by the royalty of the 15th century and there is still much more that you can discover with a full-day tour here.

Great places to observe historic items. Has contents in all shapes and sizes, from small earrings to big door and chariot. The entry fee is rupees 100 per person and there seems to be some concession for senior citizens in it. If you are going to take photos, need to pay Rs. 100 extra for it. Has over 3 floors, with resting benches and water filter availability. Place is also we'll maintained so it is lit properly. It takes easily around 3 hours to go through all the items and closes at 5:30, so plan accordingly. Parking is very limited and only for two wheelers and entrance is via a small and congested lane. Would definitely recommend visiting this place to take a trip through various history.

Really need to understand our traditions and this place is definitely makes it happen. However, ticket prices (100rs) are on higher side and on top for mobile photography 100rs extra is too much. But they are maintaining well and deserve at least for ticket prices. It has 3 floors to explore and has reasonable ventilation with washroom facility. One of the place in Pune which is not to be missed.

It is a very nice place to visit. If you visit the museum of Raja Kelkar, you will be amazed. Very old, antic and rare collections are there. It is very well organised and managed by the authority. It is divided in A and B wings. You can buy tickets at counter. You will have to pay charges for mobile photography. Lift is there to go upstairs. You can get very good collection of old Idols, Furniture, Ornaments, Cloths, Musical instruments etc. Must visit.

The Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is in Pune, Maharashtra. It contains the collection of Dr. Dinkar G. Kelkar (1896–1990), dedicated to the memory of his only son, Raja. The three-storey building houses various sculptures dating back to the 14th century.[citation needed] There are also ornaments made of ivory, silver and gold, musical instruments (a particularly fine collection), war weapons and vessels. The collection was started around 1920, and by 1960 it contained around 15,000 objects. The museum was established in 1962, and Dr. Kelkar donated his collection to the Government of Maharashtra in 1975. The museum now holds over 20,000 objects of which 2,500 are kept on display. These consist of mainly Indian decorative items from everyday life and other art objects, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum's collection depicts the skills of the Indian artists of the time, including the prominent works of Pandit Abhijeet Joshi.

An intriguing museum with a lot of references to the medieval history of India is located in Pune and that is the most famous tourist places in Pune, Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum. It possesses the rare collection of Dr. Dinkar G Kelkar dedicated to the memory of his sone, Raja. There are three floors for this museum displaying different types of sculptures dating back to the 14th century along with ivory, silver and gold items and musical instruments, war weapons, vessels etc. The collection began in 1920 and by 1960, the museum was filled with 15000 objects and later in 1962, Dr. Kelkar donated all the collections to the Government of Maharashtra. Currently, if you visit the museum, you will come across more than 20000 objects out of which 2500 only are on display. The museum showcases the different artistic materials found from different parts of India from the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection includes door frames, vessels, paintings, handicrafts, carvings etc. Museum 2000 is a project that has been started to make Dr. Kelkarr’s dream of an education and cultural museum come true and to be opened to the public in order to provide them proper knowledge on the artistic values of India. Museum Shoppee is an additional venture at the museum that will give attractive souvenir items at a reasonable rate and it is located at the exit point. Entry timings: You can visit the museum round the year and it will be open from 10:00 am to 05:30 pm. Raja Dinkar Museum is an amazing place to visit while you are in Pune. It gives a detailed information about the heritage, culture, music about the city and state of Maharashtra. We visited on a Saturday afternoon. Parking space is not available. Be careful while you park the vehicle in any of the nearby place. Entry ticket Price is Rs 100/ adult. Rs 100/camera to use the mobile phone or camera. Ticket Price are very affordable and justified once you have a look around the well maintained premises.

It's a very well-curated museum. There's no air conditioning. No parking as well. Ticket for Indians is Rs.100 pp. No phone recording or photography allowed. The museum is almost empty at any time of the day. More than a museum it's just a building with artifacts. There is no specific activity for visitors or guided tours or pamphlets. This museum needs to hire a curator to make it mindful.

It was good experience with Kelkar Museum. You can explore our ancient and mediaeval past here. But the museum is too much costly after covid it's almost doubled from last year such as before covid entry fees was 40 rupees but not it's 100 which is seriously too much. Plus if you want to click the photos then also you have to pay 100 rupees per individual/ camera/phone, which is seriously not a cost benefit ratio.

It is an old house converted to a museum. It consists of 3 floors and 2 wings, with each floor displaying on a unique theme. It is funded by Infosys, RD trust, federation of Germany etc. A very well curated museum, need a good 2 hours to see it at a decent pace. There is an entry fee of Rs.100 per Indian adult and a Rs.100 fee for camera/mobile. If you're looking for an offbeat place to explore on a random day in Pune, it is a recommendation.

It is worth the ticket price. If you have the slightest interest in history and culture. It shows how skilled our ancestors were and how much varieties and uniqueness we had in our day to day use items. From a betel box to cutting knives to locks and spoons. Compared to the varities in shapes, sizes and complexities of various items, our present lives seem primitive and mundane. The level of skills on brass and wooden works mesmerised me. I don't believe our present day craftsmen can match these.

I have seen the items which was used in 18th & 19th century. Appreciated for Alignment of the items is such a way that it can easily see for everyone. My suggestion is for ticket rates are too high for person as well as for photo mobile. If charge nominal rates, then it will be beneficial for everyone to see the museum. I would recommend to see the museum and learn the things that our previous generation was used.

Visiting this museum with my kids was an incredible experience! The collection here is simply breathtaking - a one-man collection of around 22,000 priceless artifacts beautifully curated into various sections. Each section tells a unique story, from the captivating Objects of Beauty and Culture to the intricately detailed Utensils Gallery. The Textile Gallery was a treat for the eyes, showcasing the rich history and craftsmanship behind every piece. The special exhibition area was equally impressive, adding a dynamic touch to the overall experience. The diverse galleries, including the lamps, musical instruments, and ivory displays, offered a fascinating glimpse into different cultures and eras. And the famous Mastani Mahal was a highlight, exuding historical charm and allure. My kids absolutely loved exploring the museum - it was both educational and enthralling for them. The sheer variety of artifacts and the attention to detail in their presentation make this museum a must-visit for anyone interested in history, culture, and art. Kudos to the curator for preserving and presenting such a remarkable collection Allow yourself around 1.5 to 2 hours to fully appreciate and explore all the sections of this museum. Take the time to read the details of the artifacts and observe them at your own pace without rushing, this adds immense value to the experience. It's well worth immersing oneself in the history and craftsmanship behind each exhibit rather than simply glancing through

This is a must visit Museum for every tourist visiting Pune. You will get to see many old artifacts preserved for the tourist to see while they visit this museum. Each floor is well organized. I had only heard about through my father that it has more than 50+ types of nut crackers, but practically seeing it was amazing. It usually takes 30 minutes or more depending on how much time you spend to admire each window filled with artifacts. Since I was clicking pictures and taking video to, it took me more time The Museum opens at 10 AM in morning, so if you wish to record video, do visit early Current ticket charges are Rs. 100 per person and if you wish to shoot a video or do photography then Rs. 100 extra You can pay by cash, Gpay/ Phonepe as per your convenience.

Must visit place for kids The museum's story goes beyond its official opening in 1962. Raja Dinkar Kelkar, known for his deep appreciation of India's heritage, spent decades assembling a private collection that formed the nucleus of the museum. His journeys took him to remote corners of the country, fostering a personal connection with each artifact. What remains largely undisclosed is the collaborative effort involving the Kelkar family to curate and organize this extensive collection. Raja Dinkar Kelkar's passion extended to preservation techniques, with unpublished documents suggesting that he experimented with innovative methods to protect the artifacts from environmental degradation. His dedication went beyond being a mere collector; he envisioned the museum as a dynamic space for cultural education. Today, the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum stands as a tribute to the Kelkar family's enduring commitment to India's cultural heritage. This untold history unveils the familial roots, meticulous curation, and preservation efforts that shaped this iconic institution into a living repository of the nation's diverse legacy.

Excellent place to visit especially if you are with your, children and want them to show the art and craft of the country's culture across India. I was here with my daughters, and they too enjoyed watching and exploring the details of our indian culture. Watching the entire museum was exciting and I would like to specially mention the restoration of the Mastani Mahal, which was incredible.
