A good collection of ancient artifact and other exhibits, this is a must visit place when you visit Indore. Each gallery is created for a different subject, the museum catering to the interest of a vide range of people from young students to the senior research scholars. Set apart 30-60 minutes or more as one may wish, to go through the exhibits in detail. Much to observe and learn for those visitors who are willing to. However, detailed descriptions for each item will be a welcome improvement. Aids like a recorded audio device may help to bridge the gap of a trained and knowledgeable guide.

The government has made all efforts to keep this place away from the reach of people..it's never on the list of tourists visiting Indore, just because it is not publicized. The real truth is that government doesn't want everybody to see the horrors committed by Islamic invaders.. every religious idol kept in museum is purposely BEHEADED and it clearly shows how the Jihadis would have massacred the Hindus along with destroying all the temples. Every body should visit this museum and see what our ancestors went through.. there should be school trips to this museum ,college students should visit, even researchers and students preparing for competitive exams should visit to see the reality . I am uploading few pictures..the rest you all should go and see.

It's good and very peaceful. You can visit with yours family and spend some quality time here. And its budget friendly at cost of 20rupee per head fees and children under 15 at free. Atleast for full and in detail round for 2 hours complete.

    • I visited the Indore Central Museum recently, and it proved to be a decent experience. 👍 • While it's not exceptional, the museum offers a satisfactory exploration. 😴 • The exhibits are okay, and the overall presentation is average. If you're a tourist in Indore, it's worth a visit, but keep your expectations in check. 😅 • The museum is well-maintained, providing a pleasant but not extraordinary cultural experience.

It's a must visit if you are interested in sculpture, arts and culture. Even though the artifacts in the museum are diverse and good, the overall place needs good maintenance. It would've been nice to have descriptions for each sculpture, in English and hindi. The entry fee is ₹20/- per head and ticket counter opens at 10am. You can cover the place in around 2 hrs. The museum is closed on Mondays.

Located near the General Post Office in Indore, Central Museum is also known as Indore Museum is a treat for anyone interested in digging deep into the rich history of the place. The museum boasts of a wide range of Parmar sculptures from Hinglajgarh which actually originated here. Also, the museum has a huge variety of coins, proportioned figures and intricate ornamentation. Medieval and pre-medieval Hindu and Jain sculptures also make an impression on the history buffs. These sculptures have been carved with intricate designs and generally date back from the reign of the Guptas to the Paramanas. There are two galleries in the Central Museum where stone tools, quartz sickles, ornaments and items of domestic use are on display in the first gallery and Hindu mythological carvings in the other. There are guides which are available for the convenience of the visitors. Ticket price- 20/- Overall nice place 😊😊

The Central Museum in Indore is more than just a repository of artifacts; it's a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Malwa's past. Here's my review based on the information I've gathered: Highlights: Diverse Collection: From prehistoric tools to Holkar weaponry, ancient sculptures to contemporary paintings, the museum boasts a remarkable range of exhibits spanning centuries. Each gallery offers a glimpse into a different era, keeping visitors engaged and intrigued. Unique Exhibits: The museum houses several unique treasures, including the armor collection of the Holkar dynasty, the iconic Garuda pillar from Besnagar, and intricate Jain sculptures. These pieces offer a tangible connection to the region's history and culture. Informative Displays: The exhibits are well-labeled and accompanied by informative panels, providing context and insights into the artifacts. This makes the museum a valuable learning experience for both history buffs and casual visitors. Open-Air Display: The museum grounds feature an open-air courtyard showcasing cannons, sculptures, and even a model of the Lakshman temple. This adds another dimension to the museum experience and allows visitors to appreciate the scale and grandeur of certain exhibits.

They have a coin collection from ancient India times for every single emperor that ruled !!! This collection itself must be worth crores today. I've put up some of the pics. I got really excited to see coins from Emperor Chandragupta's times ! Even the archaeological sculptures depicting Jain Gods from the 11th century AD are astounding!! I didn't get time to visit the entire museum but I'll surely go back again some day.

The museum is for those who are history enthusiasts! Personally I am so I liked it! You'll find ancient sculptures, coins, artillery, manuscripts on copper plates, and paintings. Go to the first floor and you'll find a beautiful semi-circular open window with artistic grills. The sun-light coming through those grills during evening time gives a magical appearance holistically. You can also find miniaturized structures of different ancient monuments. More new things such as old artifacts with interesting historical facts attached to them can be added to the museum to make it more appealing for non-history enthusiasts. Overall, you could have a good trip to museum if you admire the art and the ancient historical things there. Otherwise you'll be bored.

I recently visited the Central Museum in Indore, and it was a captivating experience. The affordable ticket price of 20 rs made it accessible to all. The museum's impressive collection of old statues, including those of Hindu lords like Vishnu, Shiva, and Ganesha, added a spiritual touch. The display of ancient weapons, such as guns, cannons, and swords from the Maratha Samrajya and Mughal Empire, provided a glimpse into historical warfare. The diverse coin collection spanning different eras offered a fascinating journey through time. Overall, the Central Museum in Indore is a great place for history enthusiasts, offering valuable insights and a rich cultural experience.

The idea about a museum is generally that it would have arts and history to it and in this regards the Indore Museum does not disappoint, It does disappoint in the overall upkeep, mostly 50% of the sculptors are kept out in the open in sun and for anyone to come and feel and touch and destroy or take away,

The central museum on the main road is very easily accessible. Parking for two wheeler and four wheeler is on the main road itself there is no dedicated parking. Museum comprises of items of historical importance states back to the Gupta empire there are weapons punch marked coins and remains of architectural evidences. Sculpture remains in Museum are installed under the sky so they have been corroded due to rains from a long time. Very minimally clean wash rooms are available in the museum kindly carry your own drinking water bottle. Museum is closed on Monday.

Museum was under renovation, didn't like one thing about the museum that's it's the sculptures outside the museum premises are kept under the sunlight and some sculptures are just randomly kept on the ground, the grasses are grown around it. Museum definitely need funds and maintenance, tho there were ancient sculptures inside the museum which are worth watching.

Central Museum Indore was established as institution of education department named ‘Nararatna Mandir in 1923 by then holkar state, which was housed in a building on M.G. Road presently known as Devlalikar gallery, During the period of Holkar king Tukojirao III. The main objective of this institution was to collect photos and documents of great personalities. This institution was provided with a library. It was decided to create a museum during the time of collection of artifacts and antiquities scattered throughout the State. Consequently, in 1929 a museum was formed in Nararatna Mandir. On account of its position at the centre of Holkar State the museum was declared as Central Museum. In 1965, the museum was shifted in present building. The museum having ancient artifacts and antiquities has gone through various changes according to museology and choice of the common people. In 1975, coins gallery and antiquity galleries were formed in this museum named Devi Ahilya mudra withi. Though a gallery for antiquities and excavation material was also formed. But stone sculptures were always the centre of attraction. In 1977, the selected stone sculptures found from Hinglajgarh of Mandsaur district were braught to the museum. Consequently, a new gallery known as Hinglajgarh Art Gallery was formed. Presently, there are total eight galleries in the museum which are displayed with various artifacts subject wise. Highly Recommended !!!

The Museum is very much worth than money can buy. But the upkeep of the museum is pathetic. There is no clear explanation or display board to give awareness to the visitors about the antiquity and importance of the Archeology, History and the evolution of our culture from various spectrum. Also it should have placards in at least another language English as whoever comes from abroad and other states can understand.

Museum of the memories of decades to remember, best known place in Madhya Pradesh for the collection of coins. A huge stack of coins placed in a very good manner with details about the time when these coins are in used. This museum consists of several monuments and old culture art near the main door. The collection of swords, weapons from medieval period, weapons of stones and woods, sharp knife like weapons from the ancient ages, 17th century swords, 18th century swords, small bombarding weapons from 18th and 19th century, swords from the family of Rajputana, Mughal swords and many more.... Its a good place for a family time with the living unknown stories from past centuries, a good place to acknowledge yourself with the past weapons and coin collection. Parking facility is very good, ticket window is just beside the front door and ticket price is very affordable(only 20/-) Per person. Overall review is the museum is very clean and properly maintained and also equipped the surrounding with a no. Of dustbins and proper facility for drinking water and restroom, you can complete the whole museum tour in 1.5 hrs.😊 This is Indore M.P😍😍

Nice collection of artifacts, all the way from mohanjodaro times to the 20th century. However, it could have been maintained better. Many artifacts were not labelled at all.

It's a museum which needs thorough update in all regards. However, it has some occassional surprises especially when it comes to models of ancient architecture. However, I felt that it's not much considering MP has rich cultural heritage from time immemorial

A lot of rich history that you'd get to know from the little descriptions they've attached beside each display of things at the museum. It's a small museum, not too much to look so you may take around 1.5- 2 hrs to comfortably have a look at everything that there is to offer at the museum, or may even finish your tour in an hour. There are statues outside the museum in the garden area as well, which have just been kept at display without much to learn so that's where they should probably try and work out something. There's no proper guide or somebody to impart good history or chronological relevance of things at the museum. Tickets are cheap. Museum could be an attractive place but it's not maintained properly to enjoy a nice visit. The government should try and revamp the museum or maintain it better.

The central museum is located near navlakha bus stand and the Kamla Nehru zoo. It has sections based on various time periods which explore the origins of humans in MP and India along with the subsequent medieval and modern history. I personally liked the coin and shila-lekh(rock carvings with text on it) section. Holkar history is much better summarised in the Holkar exhibition in Rajwada. The sculptures throughout the museum are amazing! Sadly half the sculptures are kept outside the building in a garden which is not very comfortable to visit in the ferocious summer heat. No guides are present. Takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to explore completely. Overall, a great place to visit for history lovers!

The Indore Museum, one of the oldest museums, was established on October 1, 1929, with the primary purpose of collecting and preserving antiquities discovered in the former Holkar State region. Its operating hours are from 10 am to 5 pm. The museum boasts an extensive collection of ancient sculptures, many of which are unfortunately damaged or broken, as well as coins from various dynasties, weapons, and more. It's disheartening that this museum doesn't receive as many visitors as it deserves, given its outstanding collections. The entry fee is Rs 20 per person. For art enthusiasts, it's a must-visit destination. Don't forget to bring your camera along to capture the beauty of the sculptures. Additionally, there's convenient car parking available within the museum premises.

Very interesting place to visit and had a lot of intriguing artifacts right from stone ages till medival king memorabilia. It costs Rs.20 for Indians when I visited Ps. You will also find artistic pieces from other parts of the world like Italy, so some might be too obscene for little kids
