A big part of history can be visualised here, but it's not well kept. First the good parts, tickets are reasonable for all visitors (5 Rupees per adult). Good collection of items from various eras, some are as old as 230 BC. Weapons, coins, art and utility items are main parts of the collection. Now for things to improve, the building is old and not well lit. Not well lit so you cannot read well on the artifacts. Coins are placed in a way that it mentions the eras but fails to give idea on value of it and the metals used. I hope the state govt. takes some steps to make the display well lit so people can read and understand it. Unfortunately photos were not allowed hence, I cannot add them in this review.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum - Awesome place and must visit to know about our country's history, Marathas, Rajput's and a lot of other warrior clans. A wonderful place set in a serene location. The area is peaceful. Information is very useful. There are artificial ponds created through water harvesting. It's a beautiful place to spend a day with family & friends.

It is quite silent place. Have some old stuff from maratha empire inside the museum. You are not allowed to take pics inside the museum. It is a small museum having small 5-6 room or halls.

At a distance of 5.5 km from Aurangabad railway station, Chhatrapati Shivaji museum is located near Nehru Bal udyan in Aurangabad. The museum is dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj the great Maratha ruler. The exhibits on display tell stories of glorious reign of the brave King showcase in six galleries. The display comprises Maratha war weapons and other artefacts from the battlefield of some of the most popular wars that the Marathas fought. Inside of the museum photography is prohibited. Maintenance of this museum is not good . Paint on the walls are not good.Roofs also in bad condition. Washrooms are very dirty. Management should take care of this and should take firm actions

This museum in Aurangabad is dedicated to the exemplary life of Chhatrapati Shivaji. It provides a window to learn history in a relaxed manner and makes for a good site, especially for adolescent kids. The galleries of this edifice comprise pictures of forts he conquered or built during his lifetime. Parts of the museum exhibit weaponry and other war artifacts used during the campaign against the Mughals. Plan to visit this site between 10:00 am and 05:00 pm. It is located near Salim Ali Sarovar and opposite the Himayat Bagh or the Mughal Garden.

While touring Aurangabad, we visited this place, it was just beside the main road, hardly any rush for ticket. There are 5 big display halls. They have various sculptures which are centuries old. The coin collection is impressive, coins from various dynasty are on display. Also has some hold manuscripts. Worth watching the things on display.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Aurangabad is a captivating journey into the life and legacy of the legendary warrior king, Shivaji Maharaj. The museum beautifully chronicles his achievements, battles, and the historical context of his reign through a rich display of artifacts, paintings, and sculptures. The well-curated exhibits provide an insightful glimpse into the cultural and military prowess of Shivaji Maharaj. The museum's layout is informative, making it easy for visitors to follow the chronological progression of his life. However, it's worth noting that the museum's infrastructure and displays could benefit from some modernization and enhancement for a more engaging experience. Overall, it is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone interested in the incredible history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Its a good place to visually see the history and the collection of various historic things, like coins, war equipment, daily life utensils, royal palace instruments, copy of paintings, and others. If you read and understand how these things had an impact in those times, also it has easy access as per location. Pro's: 1. Good collection of coins, war equipment, daily life utensils, others 2. Dedicated rooms for separate collections of things. 3. You can spend good time exploring history here. 4. Not many people knows about so it’s a peaceful place to visit (for now) 5. Easy access for location, inside city. 6. Good place for kids to learn about history, visually and if you can convey some facts that’s awesome for kids. 7. Kids find it fascinating how these things were used in those days. 8. Good place to sit out in the lawn, can be made better though. 9. Negligible fees for entry, (free of cost almost). Cons: 1. Need maintenance. 2. All collection can be arranged in better and presentable way. 3. No food court, which must be introduced as kids like to take break in between if we see everything in detail. 4. Ventilation can be improved. 5. Parking space can be made better. 6. Illumination of the room can improve the visual presentation and also colour of light and walls paint matters. Above are my personal reviews and may differ to person to person. We had visited this place with different school kids and made them understand about this history and made them feel the moment of history. There are many things I had not mentioned here as there are many things to see if you are that curious and interested in history.

Fair collection, but appears neglected. Coin collection is good and well categorised. Displays are a bit dusty and antiquated. Lot of in-display lights not working. I would instead recommend a visit to the museum in Soneri Mahal. Better maintained. And a good collection of artifacts from the Yadava, Satvahana, and other earlier dynasties.

Very poorly maintained. Its sad that a Museum having name of one of the greatest King of our country is in such a poor state. The exhibits also are hardly anything of great significance. They have some weapons articrafts and vessels on display. They also have coin collection however since the light above the coin collections were not we couldn't see much. Photography inside the museum was not permitted. Parking is available close by.

This museum is being managed by the Municipal Corporation of Aurangabad. It is in dilapidated conditions. Photographs have been damaged because of moisture in the building and coins on display have corroded. The only thing that is in good condition is its entrance gate.

Went with lots of expectation but the place is dusty, poorly lit and hardly any information on the items in display- like from where these armoury or coins were sourced from. Details of Shivaji’s family tree too is missing. There is a large collection of coins but these coins are neither clearly visible nor contain details of inscription on them. Considering the importance that is due to such a great leader and the loud noise that politicians across all parties in Maharashtra make hue and cry, the place deserves better attention. The tickets price is too low.

Such a valuable and interesting Museum but sadly no maintenance at all. Sad to see this. People are interested in such a fantastic collection but the feel and gloom is inevitable. I wish and pray that this place is respectfully preserved for us and generations to come. It is history and heritage.

  • 4/5 Karthik s. 5 months ago on Google
It has decent collection of medieval artifacts. However, the number of collections are too less. They could have made it grand by displaying videos of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his accomplishments. I wish the museum authorities were serious about attracting tourists. Plenty of scope for improvement!

It was good visiting chhatrapati shivaji maharaj museum, iam giving 4 stars bcos it was well arranged other then that it is very useful to get knowledge about him.

  • 2/5 Ravi G. 3 years ago on Google
This is a good place with rich collection of coins , weapons and other items used around 400 years ago. Unfortunately, they are exhibited in the most dirty place and atmosphere , in a way it’s disrespectful. Those who admire the great warrior and leader may ignore this aspect, but definitely it needs improvement for tourists purpose, we need to respect our own heritage.

No photos allowed once you are inside. The museum curates artefacts primarily from Maratha history, as well as other regionally found items. Its a 20-30 min walk through different exhibits. The museum staff are trying their best to maintain the exhibits and also add more items over time. Definitely recommended from an educational PoV.
