Thalassery fort is not much big fort, but a beautiful one. No tickets needed to enter the fort. There is nothing much to see here .if you are planning for a tour visit from outside , it is better to visit st. Angelo's fort located in Kannur. I always suggest to go by in the evening time . Good for a simple walk and the beach view on a side is beautiful. There is no availability of eatable things nearby, So you should carry it with you if are planned to spend a longer time here. The fort is open by 8 am and close by 6 pm .

Arakkal family during yesteryears. There is very little to see. But, those little items are neatly kept and footwear is not allowed inside. Was there anything that caught my attention? Probably no.

Kannur rich and vibrant landscape is host to the great Arakkal Kettu Museum, former residence of the only Muslim Royal Family in Kerala, the Arakkal Ali Rajas. Step inside this beautiful architectural marvel and be transported to a different era, with heirlooms and artefacts of their rein adorning the entire building. The museum exhibits artefacts and heirlooms of the royal family which includes the family seal, the pathayam (the wooden box in which grain was stored), document box and so on. The royal copies of the Holy Quran, an old-fashioned telephone, swords and daggers used by the rulers, and a telescope are also on display Apart from these, there are exhibits that stand as testimonies to the Arakkal rulers' relationship with European colonial powers as well as those relating to their maritime activities and monopoly on spice trade. It is a must visit site in the district, as it helps one gain an understanding of the cultural diversity that helped shape its current form. The museum is closed on Mondays.

Very great peacefull atmosphere to relax and witness the historical memories of the great arakkal dynasty. We didnt get any guide service. We can walk around the building peacefully with no interference of the keepers. All the details are written on several boards so that we can go thought the history and watch things at the same time. Such a great experience.

It is one of the places that holds a historic significance in the history of Kerala. It is a must visit place for history and architecture enthusiasts. The caretakers charge a minimal entry fee and extra charge for photography. The explanations for the exhibits are primarily in Malayalam and they have tried their best to have their English translations as well. The place is accessible easily and there wasn't much traffic on the way. There was plenty of space for free street parking. The opening hours are from 10am and closes by 5pm.

The Arakkal Museum is a museum dedicated to the Arakkal family, the only Muslim royal family in Kerala, India. The museum is actually a section of the Arakkalkettu (Arakkal Royal Palace). The durbar hall section of the palace has been converted into a museum by the Government of Kerala. It was opened in July 2005 after a Rs. 9,000,000 renovation. Although renovated by the government, the Arakkalkettu is still owned by the Arakkal Royal Trust and does not fall under the control of the country's archaeology department, the Archaeological Survey of India. The government had taken a keen interest in preserving the heritage of the Arakkal Family, which had played a prominent role in the history of Malabar. A nominal entry fee is charged by the Arakkal Royal Trust from visitors to the museum. Good Love it Entry fee for adult:-20 Childrens:-10 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

An old palace of Arakkal converted into a museum with a few of their daily utility items and stories and pictures. Though it doesn't look like a grand palaces of rest of India, its humble existence is worth a visit. Decently maintained. Just on the main road. You can click picture inside as well. Enjoy walking on the wooden flooring at first floor.

The Arakkal Museum is a small but fascinating museum dedicated to the Arakkal family, the only Muslim royal family in Kerala, India. The museum is located in the Arakkalkettu, a beautiful 16th-century palace in Kannur. The museum exhibits a wide variety of artifacts related to the Arakkal family, including royal portraits, jewelry, weapons, and furniture. There are also exhibits on the history of the Arakkal family, their role in the spice trade, and their relationship with the Dutch and British colonial powers. The Arakkal Museum is a great place to learn about the history of the Arakkal family and their unique role in Kerala society. The museum is also well-maintained and the exhibits are informative and interesting. Pros: Well-maintained Informative exhibits Fascinating glimpse into the history of the Arakkal family Family-friendly Cons: Small museum Some exhibits are in Malayalam Overall: The Arakkal Museum is a great place to visit if you are interested in history, culture, or simply learning about a unique aspect of Kerala's past. I highly recommend it! Here are some tips for visiting the Arakkal Museum: The museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday to Sunday. Entry: Rs. 20 for Adults, Rs. 10 for Children & Rs. 25 for Camera There is a small parking lot next to the museum. The museum is located in a quiet neighborhood, so it is a good place to visit if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing experience.

This is a museum dedicated to the Arakkal Ali Rajas, the only Muslim royal family of Kerala. The museum is housed in the Darbar Hall, which is a section of the Arakkal Kettu, or the Royal Palace. It was opened in 2005 after being renovated by the Government of Kerala. Surviving members of the royal family still live in the Arakkal Kettu. The museum is spread over two floors, ground and first, in a heritage Kerala style building. It is not being maintained properly, and the old wooden windows were not hooked and were swinging with the breeze when I went upstairs. We saw many artefacts and royal heirlooms in the rooms which still had the antique furniture which was used in the good old days. We saw an old telephone, swords and daggers, and even an old telescope. There were many paintings depicting a bye-gone era and some copies of the Holy Quran. There were many placards depicting the history of the royal family and the influence they had with the European and other dignitaries. The museum is worth a visit for the students of history. It is closed on Mondays and open from 10 am to 5 pm on the other days. There is a nominal entry fee.

The Thalassery Fort is an ancient monument in Thalassery also known as Tellicherry which is a town in the Kannur district of Kerala. It is situated on the Thalassery beach on a rocky cliff. Established by the East India Company as a testimony to show the power and ability of the imperial rulers, the Thalaserry fort was built in 1703. It played a prominent role in the military as well as commercial activities of the English during their colonial rule in India. The fort is now supervised by the Archaeological Survey of India and comprises of a large gateway as well as a lighthouse. Near the fort also lies the bungalow of the sub-collector, St. Rosary Church and Brennen cemetery. This historical fort has also experienced the making of the Malayalam movie Pazhassiraja. The fort has a square shape, massive walls and doors which are artistically carved. It has laterite blocks and walls with holes of loops which are aided by strong supporters.

The Arakkal Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of the Arakkal royal family. Housed in the former palace, the museum showcases a rich collection of artifacts, from royal relics to personal belongings. The architecture and ambiance of the palace are stunning, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The exhibits are well-maintained, and the informative displays provide insight into the region's unique history. A visit to the Arakkal Museum is a step back in time, and it's a perfect way to learn about the royal heritage of Kerala.

If you are a history lover, don't miss it.The old building was home to the prestigious arakkal dynasty and it has witnessed over 3centuries of trade deals. Got a collection of rare artifacts weapons and coins. The colorful window panes and mirrors will catch your eyes for sure. A printed version guide is available at the entrance. The museum is near to the St. Angelo's fort.

Ok with the museum. It is on beach side. It is opposite to a petrol pump.it is about 900 m from puthiyatheru bus stand. Basically it is a museum based on arakkal dynasty which is the one and only Muslim dynasty in kerala in which there existed equal priority for both men and women for the position as king. When a men becomes ruler he is called as "ALIRAJA " and when a women becomes ruler she is called as " ALIBIBI".we can then see many utensils used by arakkal dyanasty.

A nice place to spend 30 mins. The fort has it's remnants and one can just go around & see the building and it's architecture. The place is neat and they have maintained a good garden inside. Sadly, this is more of a lovers park now. The place can get very hot by 11 am, so please plan your trip. This is pretty much inside the town itself, and overlooks the sea - like most forts.

The old is preserved in its original form.

(Translated by Google) The Thalassery Fort is different from other forts, which is a gateway on a huge wall having a height of more than 10 meters. Thalassery town was raised in 1708 and the fort was completed. Inside the fort, there is a vast courtyard, two underground chambers, a terrace with tunnels, a handmade caps and a cannon to set up a beach. For the first time, the British played cricket with local cricketers on the shores of the fort. Tellicherry Fort is in Thalassery (Tellicherry) a town in Kannur District of Kerala state in south India. Tellicherry was one of the most important European trading centers of Kerala. The Fort lies on the group of low wooden hill running down to sea and protected by natural waters. It has been the main opening for the rich spices, hill products and timber of the vast inter-land .The French came first to Tellicherry for trading, they got a strong grip at Mahé, Puducherry, 5 km south of Tellicherry town. Towards end of the 17th century the British opened a factory north of Tellicherry. Later they obtained a site from Vadakkelamkur, the de facto ruler of Kolathunad and established a factory at Tellicherry in 1708. But the Udayamangalam branch of Kolathiri family and Korangoth Nair, the local chieftain resented this action and they attacked and caused serious damage to English property. In order to safe guard their trade activities with the support of the Kolathiri Raja they build a fort around the out laying hills of Tellicherry. The French occupation of Mahé, Puducherry in 1725 compelled the British Company to sthrengthen the fortification to establish a stronghold on the Malabar Coast. In 1736, the British took the possession of Dharmadam Island. The British sustained strong military establishment at Tellicherry, from 1776 to 1784. In 1781 Hyder Ali, ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore, was unsuccessful in capturing the Fort in his campaign to control Malabar. His successor, Tipu Sultan, was forced to cede Malabar District to the British in 1792, at the conclusion of the Third Anglo-Maratha War. The Tellicherry fort over looking the sea, raises to height of 10m and it is oblong on pian. It was built out of laterite blocks with high round holed walls and strong flanking basetions. The small redoubts on most of the out playing hills have long since disappeared, but Tellicherry fort is in fair state of preservation. The square fort, with its massive walls, strong flanking bastions, secret tunnels to the sea and intricately carved huge doors, is an imposing structure. A light house marks the site of an old redoubt. The fort was once the nucleus of Thalassery's development. Tellicherry was also famous for the cricket match played between the Europeans and local teams in the town near the seashore, which used to attract enormous crowds during those days. This is a centrally protected monument under the control of Archaeological Survey of India since 1921.

The Arakkal Museum in Kannur city is one of the most significant and frequently visited attractions of the south that celebrates the memory and grandeur of Kerala's only Muslim royal family- the Arakkal Ali Rajas. Previously a majestic palace of the royal family and their actual place of residence, this museum is a true testimony to the impeccable Muslim architecture and design. The Durbar Hall of this palace, which was once the official venue of gathering for the kings and their nobles, has now been converted into the Arakkal Kettu Museum and is managed by the Arakkal Family Trust. Many artefacts dating to the rule of the Arakkal Dynasty and various relics of the royals are put up on display at this museum. Entering the Arakkal Museum, you feel like you have been teleported to the 1600s- the entire palace oozes with sheer elegance and polished grace. The artefacts and heritage items of the Arakkal Dynasty have been maintained perfectly here and will never fail to stun you with their ostentatious grace and awe-striking class.

Kannur’s rich and vibrant landscape is host to the great Arakkal Kettu museum, former residence of the only Muslim royal family in Kerala, the Arakkal Ali Rajas. It is an architectural marvel and you can get transported to a different era, with heirlooms and artifacts of their reign adorning the entire building. Now under the purview of the Archaeological and Tourism Department, it is a must-visit site in the district and it helps one gain an understanding of the cultural diversity that helped shape its current form.

One of the historic place in Kannur. There is an entrance fees. The infrastructure is good to view but it is getting old. And there is nothing much to see. Only few furnitures and utensils were left. But it is a visual treatment for those who loves history and infrastructure. It is a one time watchable place. Our time well spent visiting the historical sites and things.

The building is a durbar hall that the Arakkal clan used back in the days they reigned. The administrative representatives from across their empire align on the date and time to assemble here to conduct major administrative decisions. The site speaks a lot of history through the artifacts. However, it would be great if we can include the below 2 issues. 1. A guide describing the usage of these artifacts as to when n why they were used. The age of the artifact etc. 2. Some of the artifacts are caught up rusting. I suggest the authorities take measures to preserve for future visitors
