Located at T.N.Pura Road, Siddhartha Nagar, opposite Nandini Milk Dairy, Mysuru, Karnataka 570011, the Regional Museum of Natural History is among those tourist places in Mysore which are bound to attract nature lovers. One of the units of the National Museum of Natural History, the museum was constructed in 1995 to educate people about nature and its preservation. The museum has three galleries, namely the Biological Diversity, Life through the Ages, and the Discovery Center. These galleries cover a lot of varied topics, including but not limited to the evolution of life, mangrove forests, tropical rainforests, as well as a mini weather station. There is also a small botanical garden within the museum that houses several local trees and medicinal plants. Timings: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM closed on Tuesday

One of the good museums to visit. No entry fee. No parking fee. This museum is helpful especially for children and science students of all age. Informative and well maintained . If you finish your visit to Chamundi hill, then on the way you can spend some time in this museum and gain some knowledge about various creatures . If you are in Mysuru, then this is the best place to spend your valuable free time .

Good place to enhance the knowledge about the evolution of life on earth. Displays are very good. Most people don't know about this place. Located opposite to MYMUL milk dairy, Bannur road, but a bit interior from main road. A short video show about interaction between human and wildlife is also shown here. Everything is free of cost. Parking is good.

It’s a really good effort to help children understand natural history. I wish they maintain it better though. Some areas are closed off while existing exhibits are crumbling. Entrance is free thus they don’t get any money from visitors. Maybe they should have a QR code for people who want to voluntarily contribute any amount of choice? Or perhaps a small cafeteria on the extensive grounds could be a way to earn money?

The museum in Mysore is often overlooked, visited by few, Within its walls lies a diverse collection of animal species, making it a treasure trove for those keen on exploring the rich history of the animal kingdom. Especially beneficial for children, this museum provides an educational journey into the fascinating world of animals. There is no entry fees.

A well maintained museum unknown to many. Entry is free. A good place to visit school students. They are expanding the galleries and incorporating contemporary art and exhibition regularly. Temporary exhibit gallery is also available which is filled with theme and occasion based displays. You are sure to be more knowledgeable when you walk out of the museum.

My child (4yr old) enjoyed his visit to the museum. Exhibits are good and educational. No entry fee. They have an educational movie that is played frm 12-1pm and 3-4pm ; however, since there was some maintenance work going on the day we visited, there were no shows. There is a temporary exhibit on "mahseer fish" ongoing currently. Can spend 45 mins to 1 1/2 hrs here based on your interest and age of your child. Parking and restroom facilities available. I would like to take my child again once he is older and can understand things better. I feel It's more suitable for ages 6 and up

Nice place to take children and to enrich their knowledge about animals, insects, plants, underwater living creatures and old ages. Staff are friendly and explain when children ask questions. It increases curiosity in children about science. Overall the best place to visit with children. They do not charge any fees or ticket, it's a free of cost. You can visit Tuesday to Sunday. Monday and general holidays will not be open to visitors.

Nice and calm place. My kids loved this place. There were many lions, tigers, elephants and fishes that are stuffed. They have a nice garden. Touch, feel and learn garden is not working now. Place showing human evolution was also wonderfully maintained. There is ample car parking space and no entry fee or no car parking fee. There is direct entry to karanji lake from this place.

The museum is small and covers very basic varities of species. Less is displayed about the regional history or native varients of species. Needs upgradation as it still feels like a visual school textbook from the 90s. Only apt to take children aged upto 14 years.

It's less known place which I visited with family and kid, we enjoyed a lot. Parking is free here, no entry fee , only enter your details in the registry. Its have vast collection of historic items, animals, science materials. Its still getting developed and getting enhanced. In the entrance you can find metal structure elephant designs which is the attractive thing in the reception. Children will really enjoy this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I visited the University of Mysore in the year 2016 for the Indian science congress 103rd edition. I was a participant in the KVPY contest. The ISC was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. During the 5 day event, we visited the Regional Museum and I would say that was a once in a lifetime experience being at age of 16, I was very fascinated by watching all the historical Items and the information shared by the guides. We observed various rock samples, evolution of Humans, butterfly samples. I would like to thank the Museum authority for providing us the opportunity.

One place to know the different types of raagi, seeds and millets - just visit here. Never knew that there are so many types of Raagi. Their Collection of seeds, shells and animal Artifacts are great. Only thing to improve is a guided tour which would add more value. Can charge for these services and would be good revenue generation too.

The Regional Museum of Natural History at Mysore, was inaugurated on 20 May 1995. It was undertaken by the government of India, ministry of environment and forests. The Discovery center consists of a discovery room, a computer room, a vivarium and a mini weather station. Children can handle, examine and study specimens in the discovery room. A mini theater, a sound booth are also present to keep children occupied. The bioscience computer room facilitates studying biology through interactive and multimedia techniques at a high-school or college level. On the grounds of the museum is a small botanical garden with local trees and a collection of plants used in Ayurvedic medicine. The gardens include an interpretative trail section designed for the visually impaired with not only signs in brail but also a sunken foot bridge to provide a "walk in water" experience of aquatic plants and fishes.
