This zoo was actually quite good. I've visited it Previously couple of times. Didn't know what happened now it seems there isn't much to see in here. Also due to covid restrictions not able to see Lion and Tiger properly actually it's for the safety of them. But for us it's major missing. For 20 rupees entry fee it's good place. The staffs was good and behaviour was nice. Gabe me proper explanation regarding my doubts and concerns. The snake section is disappointing couldn't see anything as there was no proper lighting. Hope in near future this will develop and there will be vast variety of animals / birds and all in here.

The zoo has a 2 hour worth seeing. Not many varieties considering the zoo in thiruvananthapuram, but those animals are in more numbers. The archeological museum is also an attraction.

The museum and zoo was well maintained. Many animals were not there and cages were empty. Still its a good place for the whole family to spend time together. Covid protocol was also followed here.

Best place to see endangered species. Good for children to learn about animals and birds. There are three good tigers and one leopard . One hippo is there as stoppers. Reptile section is also nice. 20 rs is the entrance fee for adults. Thrissur art museum is also situated inside but have to pay additional for visiting.

We had an amazing experience here.we could see tiger, leopard, crocodile, hippopotamus, monkeys, deers etc.But compared to the last visit we had before COVID, some animals were missing and some were found in very less numbers.Lion was the major missing among them.we couldn't find it during our last visit. A play area for the kids also available here. Entrance fee for adults is 20 rupees and for children it's free.

The place is pretty decent for a zoo in a city. It's not very big but it has a very calm and peaceful atmosphere. There's quite a few amount of animals too. It's pretty clean. Staff is very friendly. Overall it's a nice experience, but the only problem is due to these corona restrictions the snake place and the museum wasn't open and so was the 4d place, we couldn't even see the tigers too cause of this.

A good leisure point for kids. Even though it is small in size and very few animals are here, it is a good option for taking kids on a holiday. The best thing is we can visit it even during the noon time as there are enough trees to protect us from the sunlight. It is always crowded with visitors, especially kids. We will find it difficult to park our four wheelers since there is no particular arrangement for the same. We have to park our cars on the roadside. Ticket rates are cheap and there is a family ticket for Rs. 40 which permits a family of four. An individual adult ticket costs Rs. 20 per person. Animals are less in number , but there is a park inside for kids which they can enjoy very much. Overall a good place for kids.

Lovely place to visit and have a chance to stay close to nature. The animals are wonderful and there is a good variety of them. The place is maintained and the greenery is just amazing. No matter how exciting and beautiful the zoo is, it is a zoo at the end of the day. All the animals are in cages and that's sad to see. It's a dual feeling to feel excited seeing a tiger and feel sad seeing it in a cage! For everyone reading the review - I was able to see a tiger, lion, hippo, ostrich, emu, owls, eagles, python, gharial, gayal (a beautiful looking big bull), leopard, jackal and a few more.

Nice MUSEUM !!The museum is located close to the zoo.So everyone who visits the zoo should try to visit the museum as well.Everyone who loves painting will love this museum, that's sure💯There is so many beautiful old paintings and sculptures for us to see.its great big museum.I don't understand it because I am not a person who enjoys paintings nd wall drawings.. But at first glance all the pictures were awesome.I felt like there was a story hidden in every paintings. If you are a person who can understand paintings then definitely go to the museum.Maybe you can read the stories hidden in it !!💓

It's a nice place to spend your casual time with kids. The animals are well fed and it's great to see lion, tiger and leopard in the zoo. Some places like children garden, water drinking facility are not that well maintained. Over all a good experience.

Most of the animals are kept in the cages rather than open set up. It would be great if there is more species of animals and birds. Waiting for the Zoological park that would be opening soon. Also make sure you visit before 4PM otherwise you will miss the reptiles section, because it will close at 5:00 pm.

A beautiful Zoo located at Chembukkav, Thrissur. Vaccination certificate needed for entry. Many wild animals are kept safely. There is a separate room for keeping snakes. Environment is kept neat and tidy by passionate workers. Snacks are also available at the gate. Overall nice atmosphere.

Nice experience for children. This is not well maintained and doesn't have a lot of animals. Because the new zoo is under development. The carnivorous section is really good. There is lot of chairs under shades. So you can spent some afternoon here. There is a small children's park inside. There is one 3D theater inside. They say it's a 25min show but actually they will play some 3d movie trailers and One advertisement of museums etc. The show is actually an informative type not an entertainment type. If your child loves that then you can try. Not recommended for adults They don't have much parking. You need to park roadside.

Every time I visit there occur changes in the museum.. both good and bad. Good one is there are tiled walkways, rest area, clock room, drinking water counter. Bad change is that number of animals and birds are decreasing. Museum premises are kept very much clean whether it is the places reachable by public or the cages of animals. Beautification of garden is done and well maintained. Though animals are less in numbers I prefer this as a must visit place. As there are art museum and immense seating facilities., nature friendly in between the city. You get so many seniaric places to photograph . So its worthy.

Parking is not available. You have to park your vehicle on road side. On a busy day or weekend it will be difficult to find parking space to park you vehicle. Good place to spend some time with your family and kids.. Kids will enjoy the 3D show (paid show) which is played there. Kids will enjoy the small kids play area available in the parks.. there are enough wild animals available in the Zoo like Lion, tiger, Hippo, Ostrich, reptile house, etc...

It is one of the major attractions of Thrissur. Many carnivorous and herbivorous species can be seen here. Because of Covid19, it is less crowded now. Plastic bottles are not allowed inside. You can see a lot of loving couples roaming around. Although there are carnivores, it is difficult to see them since few gaps exist between the cage wires. The snake park is closed because of Covid19. What fascinated me the most was the blackbuck and the fox since we can see them very close. The size of the Gayal also surprised me. A zoo is an excellent place where you can spend one hour with friends and family, especially kids.

Visited the state museum and zoo, Trissur last week. It's a good place to bring your children. My son was so amazed to see the animals and birds close although caged. A children's play area is also situated on the zoo premises. Rs.20 is charged per adult to enter the zoo premises.

The animals here need a little more care. I thinks the negligence is because they plan on shifting the zoo elsewhere. Otherwise, it's a cool place to learn about nature.

This is one of the biggest Zoo in Kerala. People travel from far places to visit this zoo. I myself drove from Kochin. Entry fee is very minimal. But It is a total disappointment for the visitors. > A Tiger is the only carnivorous, we could see up close, which even is more than 25 feet away. > Lion is in a dark cage, which is around 15 meters away from the barricade. > Instead of properly maintaining and increasing the security of the real barricades and the footpaths, they closed them with temporary barricades. > Snake park has - Cobra, Indian cobra, Cobra, python, Cobra, green vine snake, Cobra, Viper and Cobra.! > There are a lot of cages kept empty. > The information about the animals or birds are not descriptive enough. The zoo had a wonderful initial design which would enable the visitors to walk around and see and understand all these animals. The system has become much worse, instead of improving.

It's an old zoo. Lion, leopard and tiger were there in carnivorous section and many other species are there. Some of the cages are empty now. ₹20 only for ticket. So a good place for visit with family and children when u come to Thrissur. Children should be more excited when they see these animals in real for the first time.

Thrissur (formerly the Trichur Zoo) is a 13.5-acre (5.5 ha) zoo that opened in 1885 in a small area called Chembukkavu, in the heart of Thrissur City, Kerala, India. It is one of the oldest zoos in the country and is home to a wide variety of animals, reptiles, and birds. The zoo compound includes a natural history museum and an art museum that showcase the social and cultural heritage of the region. The Thrissur Zoo is 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from the Thrissur City center and is open from 10:00 AM till 5:15 PM, except on Mondays. Being one of the two Zoological Parks in the state of Kerala, it sees many visitors on a regularly. Still and video cameras are allowed in the park for a small fee.

Upon my recent visit to the zoo, felt ashamed about our state goverment and departments , As some one mentioned it is India and it is kerala, we are okey.. .I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of dismay at the deplorable conditions in which the animals are kept. The enclosures, small and rusty, are a stark contrast to the expansive habitats that should be afforded to these creatures. The lack of attention is palpable, with many animals appearing visibly distressed and suffering from age-related issues and skin problems. The state of cleanliness within the enclosures is disconcerting, with signs of neglect evident in the form of unclean cages. The enclosures, rather than providing a semblance of comfort, seem to amplify the misery of the animals within. While interacting with the staff, I learned about plans for a new zoo in Puthur spanning 350 acres. They said it is Asias biggest , well just 350 acre ! Not going to be asia s biggest anyway . However, the anticipation of a future facility does little to justify the current plight of the animals here. The promise of a better future should not be an excuse for the continued suffering of these beings. In light of these conditions, I strongly advocate for the reconsideration of keeping this zoo open to the public, especially with admission fees. It's time to prioritize the welfare of these animals over commercial interests and provide them with a dignified and peaceful environment, even if it means closing this facility. Letting them experience calm and peaceful surroundings, even in their final moments, would be a more humane approach.

Good place to spend time with family.. They have a variety of wild animals.. Didn't take much pics as its already shared by others ..Even the museum is good.. Just that they have not kept the place clean, especially surroundings with dried leaves and twigs everywhere..Happy that they had closed the entrance to tiger and lion's cages.. On my previous visit some of them were harassing them which authorities took action.. Wear your shoes as this is big enclosure and a long way to walk..

This zoo is one of the oldest in kerala (opened in 1885) and the age really shows . The zoo has an art museum, children's park and a 3d theater which was closed during our visit. Its around 2 km from thrissur centre and is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm except on mondays . Ticket feel for adult is 20 , family ticket is available for 40 (mom dad and 2 children) and group ticket is available. Still and video camera is allowed for a small fee. Pay and park is available but space is less especially during Sunday's. It's a plastic free zone. The zoo is moderate and does house a variety of animals birds and snakes . All the same it's an ideal place to visit with family and children to beat the heat as its housed under a thick foliage of trees . Different types birds were present including parrots , storks, eagle pelican, peacocks and ostrich Animals list includes lion, tiger, leopard, hippo, alligator, crocodile , different type of deer, antelope ,porcupine ,wild cat ,fox . Negatives This place lacks maintenance They need to make it more beautiful and attractive . Felt bad for animals who were kept inside small cages Build a nice cafeteria so that people can sit and enjoy Public seat are in bad condition. Overall a nice place to visit with children as they will enjoy alot.

Trissure Zoo and Museum is the only such like throughout the Malabar or north Kerala but u will feel very desperated due to empty cages and hallowness of plots. Very few species are there. Lion, tiger, leopard and few are there but seems not maintained properly. If U had visited earlier You will find the zoo delicated and impoverished. Near by museum is much better maintained and worthy for visitors but innovaation or expansion is limited. Importantly, due to Covid-19, entry for children below 10 is not allowed strictly.

Updated on 11.11.2021 Entry allowed for all adults (vaccinated) and kids (no age restrictions) . Not checking vaccination details though. Pros : 20 rs entry fee All animals and cages maintained neatly Rush free spot to hang around with small kids in these pandamic days Full of shades / trees , making afternoon sessions also very cool atmosphere Conns No designated parking area available, though you can park car just outside compound wall, on road side at ur own risk. Very limited variety of animals available. Should improve sighting spot location. Lots of blind spots around cages , so make it further close with sufficient protection .

Thrissur Zoo and the State Museum is located in the heart of Thrissur city, Kerala. Started in the year 1885, the attraction covers an area of approximately 13.5 acres. The zoo houses a wide variety of animals, reptiles, and birds. Besides the extensive variety of fauna, the zoo has many other attractions to fascinate you. There is a Zoological Garden, Botanical Garden, a Natural History Museum and an Art Museum, showcasing the socio-cultural heritage of the region. The Art Museum located in Thrissur Zoo has an exquisite collection of wood-carvings, metal sculptures, Kathakali figures, ancient jewellery and a wonderful collection of traditional Kerala lamps. It also has some historical items like swords, jewellery, rocks, stuffed butterflies, etc. Some of the animals found here are tigers, lions, deer, sloth bears, monkeys, hippopotamus, camels, pink flamingos, mithun of the north-eastern hills, and lion-tailed macaques. There is a special building within the zoo compound which is an abode for snakes alone. It has a reptilian collection of King Cobras, Cobras, Python, Kraits, Vipers and Rat Snakes. Thrissur Zoo provides an opportunity to head out for an educational yet exciting trip with your family. The attraction promises to make your day memorable with the beautiful charm of nature and Kerala’s rich history.

Well maintained!!! Only issue is with parking!! Starting from first ,you can enjoy the delicious cut fruits dipped in salt solution. You can take mobile, but if you have professional camera you need to take extra ticket. To enter ticket price is 20 for adults. When talking about the animals - you have lions ,tigers, leopards, crocodile and different species of migratory birds. Definitely a fun place to visit once you are in trissur with family.

Once upon a time the zoo was good... But now it was have very few species. So any animals are expired. But it is better to see no new animal occupies place here,... They stay freedom at their mothers land. Museum was good

The Zoo has got nice trees and empty cages. Not well maintained like other zoos Thiruvananthapuram, bangalore, Mysore, Byculla mumbai,Chennai Kevadia gujarat has much better zoos. The staff is really great they are very helpful in assisting you with names of different trees. But then the ticket price is also just ₹20 for an adult and ₹40 for a family of 2A+2C. It's very close to the temple hardly 2kms.There are a huge number of deers.Dont think the Zoo is busy at all.

Thrissur zoo and museum offer a fascinating journey through the state's cultural history, featuring a diverse collection of artifacts. It's not just a heritage site; it's a place where you can appreciate the beauty of animals and birds. A wonderful spot to spend your time.

The best place to visit in town area and there are different types of birds, reptiles, tiger, etc there is a art /museum in the premises .ticket price for adults is 20 and children 5 to 10 is 5. There is a canteen inside the premises.the area is covered with trees and feels like forest , it will take two hours to watch the entire area. There is not enough parking space is the only negative. if you like my review please press LIKE .

ZOO STARTED IN 1914, BUT MUSEUM AND PARK ON 1885 BY THEN DIWAN PESHKAR OF KOCHI, SRI SANKARA AYYA.THIS ZOOLOGICAL PARK CONSISTS OF A ZOO,REPTILE PARK,ART MUSEUM, NEW MUSEUM,3D THEATRE AND BOTANICAL GARDEN. ZOO MANAGEMENT SHOULD BE UPDATED FROM THE PRESENT MENAGERIE TO A BETTER ZOOLOGICAL PARK. UNFORTUNATELY FOUND YOUNG ONES TEASING THE CAGED LIONS AND MONKEYS BY THROWING STONES AND MAKING SOUNDS AND LAUGHING IN CHEER........PROPER CARETAKERS IS A MUST. ANIMALS CAN'T FREELY WALK IN IRON CAGES. PITY TO SAY, SOME SAMBAR DEERS SEEN WITH PORTION OF FLESH EATEN ALIVE BY CROWS......

Thrissur Zoo or State Museum & Zoo, Thrissur (formerly the Trichur Zoo) is a 13.5-acre (5.5 ha) zoo that opened in 1885 in a small area called Chembukkavu, in the heart of Thrissur City, Kerala, India. It is one of the oldest zoos in the country, and is home to a wide variety of animals, reptiles, and birds. The zoo compound includes a natural history museum and an art museum that showcase the social and cultural heritage of the region. The Thrissur Zoo is 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from the Thrissur City center and is open from 10:00 AM till 5:15 PM, except on Mondays. Being one of the two Zoological Parks in the state of Kerala, it sees many visitors on a regular basis. Still and video cameras are allowed in the park for a small fee.The 13-acre Thrissur Zoo plot in the heart of the City of Thrissur where the zoo is currently located has been found unsuitable. Space constraints are affecting animals. Due to unavailability of Revenue Land, the zoo is being relocated to a 336-acre forest land in Puthur. Thereby, the management of the Zoo will be handed over to Department of Forests and Wildlife (Kerala) and it will not attract the stringent provisions of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980. The zoological park was announced for Puthur in 2003 by the then Kerala Forest Minister K. Sudhakaran. The project will come up in the 150 acres of forest land at Puthur. The zoological park is designed by Jon Coe, a leading international zoo designer from Australia.[2][3][4][5][6] The zoo is coming up on 336 acres at Puthur at the estimated cost of Rs 130 crore. Wildlife at the Thrissur zoo includes tigers, deers, lions, sloth bears, monkeys, hippopotamus, camels, cobras, kraits, vipers, rat snakes, pink flamingos, mithun of the north-eastern hills, and lion-tailed macaques. There is also a special building which houses snakes.kuchbhi.com. Kuchbhi. Archived from the original on 21 October 2011. Retrieved 4 July 2011. ^ "State Museum and Zoo". thrissurkerala.com. The Thrissur Zoo is located in Chembukavu and is well-connected via all means of local transportation within the state. The nearest railway station is the Thrissur Railway Station which is located 2 km away from the Zoo. The ideal time to visit Thrissur Zoo is in the winter season from October to March. Winters are not harsh, and you can enjoy the balmy weather. Summers witness scorching and humid climate. The season starts from March and lasts until May.

But now the situation is different.most of the cages are empty.zoo was clean but not pleasent and tigers, lions and leopards are put in small cages they look so pathetic in that environment. The zoo experience is not much entertaining.i visited here after the Corona pandemic.due to some kind of construction we can't see reptiles.btw for 20 rs tickets this would okay.i wouldn't know how much they take for foreigners.that sure much higher and that thing need to stop too

Animals were kept in a poor condition. Though a very nice place to experience things and different animals at one place the state should look into the welfare of animals as well especially in terms of cleanliness and the areas of living where the animals do their daily activities. Some of the animals should be provided with bigger and cleaner places for sure.

This zoo is also recognized as one of the best parks in Kerala and visiting it is one of the best things to do in Kerala with family due to offering a collection of attractions and activities that will make your trip even more memorable in addition to the opportunity to enjoy watching numerous amazing animals which are divided into various different species.

The lovely zoo is situated near Thrissur, Kerala. The zoo is located in the main area of the city. It is easily accessible from the bus stand and railway station. By purchasing inexpensive tickets, you can enjoy this location. Many animals are protected in this territory. The animals are not given enough comfort in these cramped enclosures. It has an assortment of several trees. Here, tourists can see a palace and all of its accessories. The hippos and monkeys were what most awed us. It is the ideal location for relaxing away from the bustle of the city. Remember Monday is a holiday here.

The museum and zoo was well maintained. Its a good place for the whole family to spend time together. A small canteen and children’s park are available inside the zoo. Its just 2 km from the city center. But there is no parking space in the zoo premises. Vehicle need to be parked outside the gate.

It's a nice place to spend your casual time with kids and families. The animals are well fed and it's great to see lion, tiger and leopard in the zoo. 3D theatre, snacks, ice cream available here. Cons. No parking facility. Food quality can be improved inside the zoo canteen. Cleanliness in some areas of the animal cages are not up to the mark. Near to the crocodile pond there was a broken footpath, where people were keep slipping and tripping into it.
