I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Vallathol Museum in Cheruthuruthy, and the experience was nothing short of captivating. This museum is a true gem, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step into the world of the renowned Malayalam poet, Vallathol Narayana Menon. The museum is thoughtfully curated, showcasing a remarkable collection of Vallathol's personal belongings and memorabilia. As you walk through the exhibits, you can't help but feel a deep connection with the poet and his life. One can find a diverse array of items that once belonged to Vallathol, including his pen, glasses, easy chair, and even his clothing. These artifacts provide an intimate glimpse into his daily life and creative process The highlight of the museum, for me, was seeing Vallathol's personal study. It's as if time stood still in this room. His writing desk, adorned with his pen and inkwell, evokes a sense of reverence for the literary genius who once composed masterpieces at that very spot. The room is a testament to Vallathol's dedication to his craft and his commitment to preserving the Malayalam language and culture. The Vallathol Museum also beautifully captures the essence of Vallathol's poetry and his contributions to the world of literature. The displays are informative and well-designed, providing valuable insights into his life and work. It's a place where both admirers of his poetry and those new to his legacy can gain a deeper understanding of his literary contributions. In conclusion, a visit to the Vallathol Museum in Cheruthuruthy is a journey into the heart and soul of one of Kerala's most celebrated poets. It's a testament to Vallathol's enduring legacy and his immense contribution to Malayalam literature. I highly recommend this museum to anyone seeking to explore the life and works of Vallathol Narayana Menon. It's an enriching experience that will leave you with a profound appreciation for his artistry and the cultural heritage he helped shape.

Vallathol Narayana Menon (16 October 1878 – 13 March 1958) was a Malayalam poet and one of the triumvirate of modern Malayalam poetry, along with Asan and Ulloor. The honorific Mahakavi was applied to him in 1913 after the publication of his Mahakavya Chitrayogam.[1] He was a nationalist poet and wrote a series of poems on various aspects of the Indian freedom movement. He also wrote against the caste system, the tyranny of the British and Brahmanas and other social orthodoxies. He founded the Kerala Kalamandalam and is credited with revitalising the traditional Keralite dance form known as Kathakali.

Vallathol Narayana Menon’s house has been converted into a Museum portraying the great poet’s life, achievements and contributions. The museum contains the poet’s manuscripts. It also houses important moments in the life of Vallathol, including the meeting he had with renowned leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru.  Mementos and awards received by Vallathol are also on display.

As well maintained as you would expect a Malayalam poet's house converted into his memorial. It is a short tour, can spend a few minutes remembering and paying homage if you are a fan of Malayalam literature. Tickets to be purchased at Kalamandalam office few kms away. This is the house of the famous poet Vallathol. You can see many artifacts used by Vallathol. You can also see manuscripts by the poet. Notable are a translation of Rig-Veda and his diaries. If you are in the neighborhood make sure you visit this place. It is well maintained. Sadly, photography is not allowed.

I could even see the artificial teeth used by Vallathol. Camera is strictly prohibited in the museum. The easychair used by Vallathol was another attraction to me. You can see the ashtray used by the writer and his dress n the gifts he received. Padma Bhushan award (India's third highest civilian award) is nicely framed and preserved there. In addition to subjects from nature and the lives of ordinary people, Vallathol's opposition to the indignities of the caste system and the injustices suffered by the poor are common themes for many of his poems. I consider it as my privilege to visit the museum.
