Excellent architecture of museum. Digital Display everywhere to increase comfort. But expected few more archaeological findings on Buddh rather than pictures... Ticket cost 100 For students it is 50 (Please carry Id cards of college or school)

The Buddha Relic casket is worth visiting. The natural history hall looks forelorn. The Metal hall and the Rahul Sankrityayan Hall are very well arranged and labelled. After the opening and shifting of exhibits to Bihar Museum, this one looks like a stepsister of the other one. The architecture however is still worth a visit.

Before the construction of Bihar Museum in 2015, Patna Museum housed over 75000 antiquities, including more than 4000 terracotta and stone sculptures, and 28000 coins ranging from punched marked to British-era coins. Once Bihar Museum was built, it was decided that antiquities till 1764 would be transferred here, and the antiquities that refer to the post-1765 era would be on display at the Patna Museum. The museum possesses ‘Relics Casket of Buddha’ procured from Vaishali, from the earliest earthen Stupa built by the Lichchavies immediately after the death of Buddha during 600 BC. This is among the most valuable collections of the Patna Museum.01

Wonderful place for visit with family and friends in Patna. Entry ticket is Rs 100 per person. The Museum Fully Air-conditioned so you may visit in pick summer also. There is 2 section one for kids and another is historical. There is one theatre also where informative movie about the museum and history of Bihar runs every hour for free. Highly recommended. t was such a nice experience we can see the whole heritage of patna as well as our nation's heritage in the museums. The museum really gives the vibe of those old monuments and all. The museum is divided into different sections such as art galleries, stones artifacts, organisms, bronze statues etc. The one drawback I've found is there is no parking space in the museum. When I got there it was a renovation going on. I recommend going there once and experiencing the history and heritage. Another interesting thing is that it got a courtyard in the middle it was so peaceful and calm to stay there.

I rated 3 stars for cleanliness and sweeper staff. Worst ticketing service ever, Their are multiple charges list by timing If you visit before 5 pm you have to pay 100rs . Extra and if you are a foreigner you have to pay extra for half and full musium view 😂😂 LoL 😆 One request to musium authority If you can't manage the visitors' please shut down after 5 pm

A good museum altogether. But my advice is that you have to be sure of what you want when you are visiting this place. I visited this place last in 1995 and back then there was only one museum in Patna. With Bihar museum around, you have to have some interest in specifics displayed here to come and visit this place. I came here to see the Natural History part as it has a rare Fossil of a 200million old tree which is not something that you will find in a regular museum in India. I am a Fossil enthusiast and this place is therefore great for me. You have to have your pic. Nevertheless, a good Victorian architecture building to see and enjoy on a sunny day in Winter. Do visit once. :)

I visited Once here with my School Trip.It is one of the Oldest Museums of India.Museum is well spacious and well equipped with pieces of art and culture. There is lot to discover which take your whole day to figure it out. Must go if want to explore history and the facts that bring it to life. A part of museum is like amusement park ,a bit of amphitheatre at the sides and a nice lawn to catch up with someone special.

The museum is surrounded by a beautiful scenery park. A number of statues, such as of Lord Hardinge, Viceroy of India dots the campus. The museum has a collection of over 45,000 exhibits, out of which only a small percentage of it are on display due to space constraint. The Relic casket, containing the mortal remains of Lord Buddha is one of its rare possessions. However the most famous collection of the museum is 'Didarganj Yakshi', the statue from 3rd Century BC. A brick sculpture of lord Buddha and stupas, named as Satabdi Smarak is situated in one of the corner of the museum. A cafeteria (Sangrahalaya Vihar) managed by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation and a souvenir shop managed by HHEC (Ministry of Textile, GoI) is present in one corner of the museum. The museum building also houses few government offices like office of the National Mission for Manuscripts, Govt. of India and Bihar Research Society. The museum also houses an auditorium, named as Jan Nayak Karpuri Thakur Auditorium at the back side. It was inaugurated in 2000.The museum building consist of two floor, with each floor having dedicated Galleries to display the artifacts in a proper way. The galleries are Natural History Gallery,Stone Sculpture Gallery,Orissan Stone Sculpture,Indian Stone Art Tradition ,Terracota Gallery,Budda Relic Gallery,Bronze Galley, Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayana Gallery,Art Gallery & war-weapon Gallery,Painting Gallery,Patliputra Gallery, Rajendra Gallery etc. Date of experience: December 2017

The vibe is great overall. There are a lot of places inside the museum which are still not open for visitors...eager to see what would it hold and when would we able to see it. I don't know if there are any guides available or not but it would be great if there were actual people interested in telling us the history behind the artifacts. The place has great potential.

This museum mostly contains modern artworks and a few exhibits that were found in and around of Patliputra. Most of its contents have now been moved to the new Museum. There is a wildlife and minerals sections which is quite unique. The park situation outside offers a soothing and scenic view. A good place to spend few hours with friends and family especially children. Entry fee is quite low and separate passes are required for mobile photography.

Excellent place to visit. The museum is also known as Patna old museum now, as there is a new museum now. You can spend a couple of hours here. Mobile photography and photography is allowed after you purchase relevant tickets. There are two types of entry: general museum visit and Buddha's relics. I recommend to visit Buddha's relics. This is awesome.

A good filler museum, nothing special. Security guards more invested in its success - and more able guides - than the government employees sleeping in the corners, who didn’t seem to want to showcase the museum and the history. The best sections are the contemporary Bihari art gallery and the Buddha’s ashes - though the latter cost an extra (steep) fee (Rs 500) and not really worth it (especially given the actual museum worker makes rude comments to the helpful security guard wanting to make it an experience for a visitor; the half asleep bureaucrat must have thought a gora doesn’t understand his Hindi insults…)

One of the oldest museum started on 3 April 1917. Maintenance is good, ticket price is reasonable (15rs) free for kids under 5. You will like only if you have a deep interest in archaeology. Closing time at 5PM. If you are interested in clicking pictures inside the museum then you can buy a ticket for that (20rs). Anyway you can try clicking without ticket also until someone says anything 😉

Must Visit place if you love architecture and building. If you belong to architecture related field then its a paradise for you. Talking about Artifacts in museum- if you are a history lover then this museum will disappoint you as most of findings and artifacts are moved to different museums from here. It has very little artifacts from ancient civilization. It is good for the younger school going children as it showcase different eddifies of wild animals and basic history related models. It has very neutral painting exhibition. Talking about Architecture of museum - it was made by British using Rajputana style of architecture with magnificent courtyard and openings. It shows how great our architecture was as it still meets the climatological and lighting demands. It magnifies the royalty of the inhabitants of those times. Must go there.

Most of the stuffs from this museum is shifted to Bihar museum. So you should visit Bihar museum instead. There are a few paintings which are worth seeing. Also they have some historical collection of showpieces and utensils. You have to buy a ticket at entrance which is a nominal ₹30 only. There is also a park outside the main building.

Fair collection of articles for an Indian museum. Surroundings are quiet, beautifully maintained... Apparently some people come here for spending time in the lawns. For travellers: 1. Fare charged was Rs.15/- 2. Bags are not allowed inside but saw a few foreigners moving around with very small bags (documents?). There's facility to keep bags next to ticket counter (Rs.5/-)

Patna Museum is the state museum of the Indian state of Bihar. Started on 3 April 1917 during the British Raj to house the historical artefacts found in the vicinity of Patna, it is in the style of Mughal and Rajput architecture and is known locally as the Jadu Ghar. Most of the early collections have now been transferred to Bihar Museum. The Museum was constructed by the British to conserve and display the historical artifacts found in the vicinity of the state capital. The concept of having a museum arose in 1912, after Bihar and Bengal were separated. Patna Museum started functioning in 1915 from the commissioner's bungalow, on the campus of A. N. Sinha Institute. The artifacts were then shifted to new rooms at the Patna High Court building before being taken to the present building in 1929. The land that was selected for the museum, in 1925, was on Patna-Gaya road (now Budh Marg). The two-storeyed building, designed by Rai Bahadur Bishnu Swarup, was completed in 1928. It was opened as the first museum of Bihar and Orissa Province by then Governor of Bihar and Orissa, Sir Hugh Lansdown Stephenson. Items on display in the multipurpose museum include archaeological objects, coins, art objects, paintings, instruments, textiles, paintings, thankas, bronze images and sculptures and terra cotta images by Hindu and Buddhist artists. It has a rare collection of British-period paintings depicting day-to-day life, as well as a fine collection related to the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad. It also houses a World War I cannon. The fossil of a tree said to be more than 200 million years old is on display, as is a casket — unearthed in 1958 by archaeologist, A. S. Altekar, at the Relic Stupa of Vaishali — said to contain the sacred ashes (relics) of Gautama Buddha. A Didarganj Yakshi statue, discovered on a Ganges riverbank in 1917, was the museum's most prized collection,  which was later shifted to Bihar Museum. The artefacts from ancient India era to 1764 are kept in Bihar Museum and those of post-1764 period are kept at Patna Museum. Rahul sankrityayan donated 10000 manuscript which are written in Gold and silver on handmade papers and book on Buddhist philosophy that were once in the library of ancient Nalanda and Vikramshila university. These manuscript were taken to Tibet dating back of around 700 years ago before the destruction of these universities. These manuscripts were brought by him. Beginning November 2009, a project was started to build a replacement museum in Patna to enable the display of larger collections.

This is best museum I ever seen. Here you find Bihar cultural and historical development. The statue photo that I tag below that is the pride of this museum. That statue is called Yakshni. If you see the details of statue you amazed that how the craftsman of Mauryan empire (300 BCE) can do this possible. Here is also Bihar Diaspora gallery that show the contribution of bihar people in different countries all over the world. If you go museum FIRST GO AND DO WATCH DOCUMENTARY ON BIHAR (ask the guard for it) he also guide you how to explore whole museum. Knowing the past shaping the future

A truly remarkable place to visit in Patna. Established in the year 1917 this museum has artefacts on Lord Buddha, Ashoka Empire, Gupta Dynasty, Nalanda University and much more. Today it has lost its little bit of charm to Bihar Museum still both of them are equally great places to visit. Entry fare is Rs.15 per person and Rs 20 separately for photography.

Patna Museum is the state museum of the Indian state of Bihar. Started on 3 April 1917 during the British Raj to house the historical artefacts found in the vicinity of Patna,[3][4][5] it is in the style of Mughal and Rajput architecture and is known locally as the Jadu Ghar. The two-storeyed building, designed by Rai Bahadur Bishnu Swarup, was completed in 1928.[6][7] It was opened as the first museum of Bihar and Orissa Province by then Governor of Bihar and Orissa, Sir Hugh Lansdown Stephenson.[6]Items on display in the multipurpose museum include archaeological objects, coins, art objects, paintings, instruments, textiles, paintings, thankas, bronze images and sculptures and terra cotta images by Hindu and Buddhist artists.[1] It has a rare collection of British-period paintings depicting day-to-day life, as well as a fine collection related to the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad. It also houses a World War I cannon.[8] The fossil of a tree said to be more than 200 million years old is on display,[1] as is a casket — unearthed in 1958 by archaeologist, A. S. Altekar, at the Relic Stupa of Vaishali — said to contain the sacred ashes (relics) of Gautama Buddha.[9] A Didarganj Yakshi statue, discovered on a Ganges riverbank in 1917, was the museum's most prized collection,[1] which was later shifted to Bihar Museum. The artefacts from ancient India era to 1764 are kept in Bihar Museum[10] and those of post-1764 period are kept at Patna Museum.[11]Rahul sankrityayan donated 10000 manuscript which are written in Gold and silver on handmade papers and book on Buddhist philosophy that were once in the library of ancient Nalanda and Vikramshila university. These manuscript were taken to Tibet dating back of around 700 years ago before the destruction of these universities. These manuscripts were brought by him. Beginning November 2009, a project was started to build a replacement museum in Patna to enable the display of larger collections.

Patna Museum, built in 1917 during the British Raj. There has been a wonderful use of Rajput and Mughal style in its architecture. Its windows are reminiscent of the palace of Rajasthan. The biggest attraction of this museum was the statue of Yakshini of Didarganj with Chander in her hand. One arm of the idol was fractured. So far it has been removed from here and sent to the new museum. Rahul Sakrantayan donated 10,000 handwritten Manusmritis to this museum which were written from the past gold and silver on hand made paper Here are some rare, ancient books on Buddhadarshan that were taken to Tibet seven hundred years ago and therefore survived the destruction of Nalanda University There are ancient rare coins, weapons, utensils, jewelery clothes. There are documents of the historical battle of Buxar. Here is a tableau of the lifestyle of the tribals and their contribution to the freedom struggle. There is much that makes this museum rich and worth visiting. Students of Patna Art College are often seen making still life sketches here. This museum is also known as "Jadugar". It will be enough to call an auto or rickshaw-wala simply as a 'magician' to reach here. In its compound, there were earlier metal, life-size statues of some Englishmen, and walking around the museum you could see its architecture not only from the front, but from all sides. Now most of the part is covered and construction work is going on inside which is going to be covered with sackcloth after being made. Yes, the words of the officers will become separate and they will become silk Right now only one statue is visible, that of Viceroy Lord Hastings... will the rest survive or will be crushed... Don't know..!

:) This is a good place to visit with family and kids. It has long garden with green grass. Also, this is a very clean place where you will feel good & fresh with own circle. The museum have some out standing collections of living kind such as animals, tree, painting, and more. The architecture is also so beautiful and you feel like, you are in a palace. And its affordable too. You can buy a ticket for adults 15rs only. If you are looking for photography inside the museum then you can collect an extra ticket for your cam, mobile, professional camera etc just only 100rs. Only for Indians!😊 If you are planning for an outing in the city with kids I will recommend to visit this place!😊
