Located on the third floor of the RCITY mall adjacent to the Food court. The ambiance transports to the heartland of God’s own country. While it specialises mostly from dishes from southern india I was pleasantly surprised to find a few local Mumbai dishes in the menu. I tried a new dish called Kozhukattai bomb. These are rice balls deep fried and served with a good dose of sautéed curry leafy with special spices. It’s Mind-blowing. Do not give it a miss They also have introduced a few health drinks that I was tempted to try. I choose a beverage called super health which had apple, pears and lemon juice together. It was above average. Please note the restaurant does not serve alcohol. Apart from that I had Neer dosa and mushroom Sukka. Pls note it’s a veg restaurant. Even if you are not a vegetarian do not give this restaurant a miss. Top class food and services

This incident happened on Sunday, 16th October 2022 and I waited for three days to calm myself down. But when I think about it even now, the injustice still boils my nerves and I felt I need to express myself. My mom is in the city and we went to catch a movie at the Grand Central mall at Seawoods, Navi Mumbai. My mom is a diabetic and she needs to consume her food at regular intervals and on time. We planned the movie accordingly. At 12:30pm the movie was over and I took her to ‘Banana Leaf’, a south Indian-themed fine dining restaurant. I have visited them many times albeit in other parts of the city and could vouch for the authentic taste. As I knew mom’s simple preferences and also the need for a quick turnaround, I ordered what I thought was the most uncomplicated food to be delivered – the thali. They took about 20 mins to place the plate on our table which contained all the accompaniments except the main staple food of my mom – rice. We had to make do with the neer dosa. I cajoled mom about how neer dosa is also made of rice and is tasty. Mom didn’t seem convinced after she took a small bite. After a few more minutes I gently reminded the server of rice. He said it was rush hour and hence the extra time. I reminded them multiple times over the next 15 mins to no response. I could see the uneasiness on mom’s face and I reminded the waiter, this time at a louder volume so that they get the job done faster out of embarrassment. That worked and finally, the rice arrived. Usually, I’m a generous tipper. I have a personal rule – tip a minimum of 10%. Sometimes we tip the cleaners who never get a part of the tip. This time I was clear that I’m not tipping. The bill arrived and I saw a 5% service charge is levied. I told the waiter that I’m not paying the service charge and asked him to bring a revised bill. He refused and insisted that I pay the complete bill. We argued and the manager came to the table. The manager flashed an ’I know to handle you guys’ smirk and said I have no option but to pay the service charge. When I refused in a louder tone he gave out a huge louder sound which was like a roar and towered over me with his huge frame like a boxer about to knock out his opponent. It was a blurry moment. Here I was refusing a service charge and arguing with him about how the government directives say that it is a personal choice and cannot be imposed. The manager's words were cleverly worded to show me down in front of other patrons of the restaurant as a penny pincher who refused to tip and was clearly burying the fact that I was not tipping because of their bad service. They finally gave in and gave me the bill without the service charge. The worst moment was yet to come. While we were leaving, the waiter came to me and said, “next time don’t visit fine dines, go and eat at the food court. People like you go there”. I wanted to punch him in the face. They wanted me to do just that, he instigated me so that all the waiters and the manager can get together and bash me. I swallowed my ego and pride and came out. I thought I will express it a better way I know. My question to you is – what would you have done if you were in my place? Is Banana Leaf (or any restaurant) justified in levying a service charge? Are the restaurants right in still imposing a charge forcefully when the government directives clearly mention otherwise? Would you ever visit a restaurant that never acknowledges its mistake but insults a guest?

Banana leaf is a famous name from my Bangalore days, so had to try when opened in R City. Food - The ever not lasting menu had a lot to offer, however it was somehow not at par as what I expected and remembered to get in Bangalore. So that was a little disappointing. Service - Service was something which was very off. Staff was not responsive, took ages to get food , just did not give friendly vibes. Will we visit again, maybe.

We went to Banana Leaf in R City Mall Ghatkopar West twice in two days, and were lucky to find a table easily. It is a bit difficult to get a table here during peak hours. We ordered Veg Mallipuram with Chapati and Yelneer Payasam on the first day, and Dakshini Biriyani, medu vada, and butter milk on the second day. Veg Mallipuram was awesome. It was mildly spicy thick green curry with coconut and mildly sweet, with lots of assorted vegetables. Chapati was made of whole grain wheet, so it was a better choice over lachcha paratha which we confitmed were made of maida. Yelneer payasam was good, but was overpriced for the little quantity they provided, given that coconut is not a rare commodity in Mumbai. For the next order, Butter Milk though tasted good, was served in plastic glasses, which was a disappoitnment. Medu vada plate had 5 medu vadas, crispy but overfermented. Both white and red chutney was good. Sambhar was mildly spicy and sweet. Dakshini Biriyani was cooked in Andhra style, it was mildly spicy and was at par with Behroz or Biryani by Kilo. Staff service was prompt and behavior was polite. Background music was traditional South Indian instrumental on the first day and Flute music on the second day. I feel their thali would be nice too. May visit this place again.

I have a deep appreciation for South Indian cuisine, so my expectations are quite high when it comes to dining in such establishments. Banana Leaf's menu offers a wide range of choices, from Kannada to Malayali dishes, which is commendable. The thali stood out as a highlight of my visit, offering a delightful blend of flavors. I also tried the dahi wada, which, while decent, didn't fully satisfy my palate. In terms of food quality and taste, Banana Leaf impressively outperformed most other South Indian restaurants I've been to. However, there's still room for improvement, especially for someone like me, who is passionate about food. One aspect that needs attention is the staff's performance during busy weekends. Though they are well-trained, the weekend rush can sometimes overwhelm them, potentially leading to customer frustration. Addressing this issue could significantly enhance the overall dining experience. Despite these minor concerns, I would recommend Banana Leaf for its diverse South Indian menu and delicious offerings.

This is a pure veg restaurant. Specially for South Indian. Ambiance was good. It takes time for preparing the order. If you plan to visit this place for dinner then you will have to wait for table minimum for half hour. They serve good and hygienic food. We ordered pav bhaji dosa. It was very cheesy and yummy.

We visited R City Mall yesterday evening and dined in Banana Leaf as it is famous for South Indian food. The place was decently crowded as it was a weekday. The ambience of the place was mesmerizing as the interiors were influenced by South Indian culture. We ordered a mini meal which included Mushroom Sukka with Neer dosa and Malabar curry with appam. Also we ordered two juices (Pineapple with mint and Golden Juice). Food was served in 15-20 mins and it was well prepared especially Mushroom Sukka. The food was served on Banana leaf kept on a Stainless Steel plate. After the meal we had Filter coffee. Overall, It was a good experience.

Banana Leaf is the best place to have South Indian Food in thoda hatke style. Idlis, Dosas and Rice are served in various South Indian styles like Andhra Style, Kerala Style, Tamil Style etc. I like Rasam from Banana Leaf a lot. Good way to consume rasam is like soup we have before having proper meal. Puliyodharai Rice is must have. Ambience is good. Food is good. Service is good.

This outlet is specialised for South indian and Kerala food ... special type of idlis, dosas, rice items and curry's It's pure veg and hygiene restaurant 🔘 We Started with Rasam: it's south indian restaurant specialty. Little spicy tangy taste, you should order this, mind refreshing and light. 🔘 Rajni Dosa: Amazing taste of Dosa, filled with vegetables and Chatni over Dosa is very good. All chopped vegetables and masala makes dosa tasty. 🔘 Takali Masala Dosa: Rava dosa with vegetables stuffed inside. Very soft and delicious in taste. 🔘 Appam & Neer Dosa: When you go through South indian restaurant then these are specially. Along with these Dosas, we ordered curry as main course. Malabar Curry: Little spicy and coconut gravy with vegetables makes taste yummy. We can eat with Appam 🔘 Veg Mallipuram: Green colour gravy with vegetables. It's very tasty with Neer Dosa 🥧 Calicat Pulao: Very tasty pulao with dry fruits and vegetables cooked in South Indian styled. Along with pulao papad is served. 🥧 Bissi Bella Baath: looks like Dal khichdi but different. Made of dal and coconut curry. It's south indian food specialty. Finally Desserts 🍝 Akhrot Halwa: yummy and tummy full halwa full of Walnut and dry fruits. Having recently moved to Mumbai, I was craving for a humble idly vada and this brought me to Banana leaf at RCity, Ghatkopar. It’s not easy to satisfy my taste buds as I am originally a Bangalorean. This restaurant claimed to be authentic southy .. however my heightened craving came crashing down When I was served the plate. Pure shock to see two tiny idyls on my plate. It was a joke and an insult to idly. Technically the portion was such that, 2 tiny idlys must have been one piece. I don’t think I will be returning to this restaurant ever again My review: Taste : 3.5 Price : 4 Portion: 2 Overall : 3

One of the very known names of authentic South Indian food... The atmosphere here is very traditional like it... We were here for thali which usually serve till 4pm but when we came here it was already over at 3pm it was a big disappointment for me then we ordered dosa's like Mysore dosa and rawa dosa taste was average... They need to work on their taste of food

Nice restaurant good ambience it is a proper fine dining experience 👌. Food was delicious but little expensive. Bill for 2 people was 1,000 inr without sweet dish or coffee. Felt it is little expensive and they should reduce prices by 30%. But amazing food 😋

I recently dined at Banana Leaf Restaurant, and it was an absolute delight! The flavors in every dish were exquisite, showcasing a perfect blend of spices and freshness. The variety on the menu impressed me, offering a wide range of choices for different preferences. The presentation of each dish was not only visually appealing but also reflected the attention to detail in the kitchen. The service was top-notch, with a friendly and attentive staff that added to the overall enjoyable experience. The ambiance was inviting, making it a perfect setting for a memorable meal. I highly recommend Banana Leaf for anyone looking to indulge in delicious, authentic cuisine.

After Versova and Santacruz, their latest outlet inside R-City mall near the food court. Menu is overall the same as is the standard of food preparation. Service was a bit slow and lost, maybe because the place is new. Ample mall parking and easily accessible for specially abled as well

Small place but alert staff. We visited on a weekday but the tables were almost full. Service was quick, everything was served in steel plates with Banana Leaf. The South Indian music played continuosly in the background was a marginally loud but added authentic vibes to the place. We tried their Amras Puri, Curry Parotha and Podi Idli. We saw other trying Appam, Dosas etc.

The ambience is too good. It gives an good South Indian traditional to inch in terms of decor and wall art. The food is piping hot and is very yummy. Must try is their masala dosa , idli sambar. Good place for family lunches and dinners of also for light South Indian authentic breakfast.

Nice restaurant, good south indian food. Food is served in a very traditional way, which also makes it more appetizing on the banana leaf cut in dish shape. Idlis are big and one plate can be enough per person. They have varied range of idlis and meduwada. Nice ambience.

A real south indian restaurant with a extremely good location, really easy to find. We ordered corn capsicum idly and asked for some customisation, which wasn't done so minus points for that. The idli was real soft and masala tasted awesome as did the chutney and sambhar. Next we had plain idlis which was equally soft. So awesome food. We also ordered filter coffee, but it was served medium hot, and it tasted like a normal coffee, so again minus points. Overall a real good experience with food. If you want to have light snacks like idli, go for the restaurant, I wouldn't recommend their filter coffee though.

One of my favourite south indian chain in Mumbai. The ambiance is authentic and with the calm music and the lighting clams one's mind down. The food here is also very good and worth every penny. Do try the Rajni dosa and cheese chili garlic dosa they are awesome. Also they beverages to try I usually prefer the coconut water they have. If you want to takally dosa. Paradise for veg food lovers.
