We visited here on a Sunday afternoon after visiting the Gateway of India and the museum as it was in the close vicinity in the Kala Ghoda area. It's a pure vegetarian restaurant and offers Ala-carte as well as thali options of Rajasthani, Gujarati or Maharashtrian cuisine. We opted for the Ala-carte option as thali was too much for one person to eat. We ordered Paneer Butter Masala along with Roti basket, Pulao and curd rice. All the items tasted good and portion size is good enough for 2 people. We also ordered some beverages. They would also serve green salad on the table. The place is small and has seating capacity for about 30-40 people and has good ambience. Has an entrance to their adjoining book shop as well. Priced slightly on the higher side due to their location, a good place to try indeed.

Chetana - excellent thali restaurant, they serve Gujarati, Marwari and Maharashtrian thalis here, super warm hospitable service. They really take care of you here with a smile and in case if there is a vegetable that you don't like in your thali they will replace it with another vegetable as well - this was truly amazing. Had the Gujarati thali here and being a Gujarati can definitely vouch for its authencity. Awesome Food and Super Awesome Service We went on Diwali day and it was mad rush, we had to wait, which is fine but we got seats on right side room from main entrance which is made functional only during additional rush. This place has single door to enter exit and food servers focus only the main hall and rarely come to this room. We ourselves had to ask for chaas and jaljira as we saw it being served in main hall and we got it only after half meal was done. We had checked what is the sweet dish of the day and came to know Jalebi was one of the two. We were served jalebi towards end of meal after our repeated asking. Phulkas were chewy and hard, the flour dough was not kneaded properly before preparing phulkaas. Cauliflower in vegetable was raw and not cooked properly. In farsan there was one kachori covering kind of rectangle and had no taste. Rice dhokla was taste less too. Undhio was extremely oily and muthia were rock hard. Wadas of dahi wada had very less salt and overall dahiwada was a big disappointment.

Had their Maharastra, rajastani and jain thali. Authentic veg food. Each thali cost in between Rs 600- 800. Ample amount of food with refill as much as u want, though it's hard to even complete one round of food.

I heard from the owner that the restaurant is running for last 72 years. This is mind blowing.. Visited during Kalaghoda festival and naturally the restaurant was crowded but we could get our chance in 10 min. However since the table was big we have to share with other two persons. This is pretty unusual for Mumbai. They serve Only Thalis ( Gujarathi/ Rajasthani / Maharashtrian ) All costs Rs 589 plus taxes. We ordered Gujarati Thali. The taste was top class with most of the items served hot and fresh. Even though they have couple of less items on menu as compared with Maharaja Bhog. They also have only one sweet served and not unlimited unlike other restaurant. Surprised to see Gulabjamun or kheer as sweet option and not Jalebi as favourite one. The service was lacking on several fronts which was surprising considering their Long term experience. I was not served Kachori. Then they didn’t serve salads. They didn’t serve jal jeera or butter milk. Was told to select only one. They serve two rotis and bakri roti together in beginning which becomes soggy when we finally eat. They need to have a experienced person to supervise to ensure that the hospitality is taken care which usually tops in any such Gujarati restaurants. However leave alone such small gaps it is worth visiting this restaurant with family and friends…

Rajasthani, Gujarathi and Maharashtrian thali arr available, and we had chosen Rajasthani. Dal Bati Churma was awesome in taste, and was very heavy. Size of Bati is like King size. A few other dishes like Gatte ki Sabji, Rice items (Dal Khichdi, Palak Rice etc.) were also nice. But sweet items, which are usually supposed to be top notch in unlimited thali, were okayish. We had Gajar Basundi and Mohanthal (Besan Barfi), both were okay. I will say that if you're going in the group, especially with young ones and who love to eat heavily, you may visit. Old people may avoid as it gets too heavy. Price is quite high, 589 for Rajasthani thali, 549 for Gujarati thali (excluding taxes) (March 2022). So, it's good, but not value for money.

Hopeless staff , worst serving, same test in all dishes ,we have ordered 3-4 different main course n they all had same masala test just difference was name , uncooked starters n main course ,Experience was a disaster. And hight was staff's unprofessional behavior .Dirty dishes , Horrible toilet , congested place . It was all bad. We left all food as it was . They really ruined my dinner with family.

Good ambience and convenient location. Service was really good with polite and courteous staff. I wish I could say the same about food. But unfortunately it wasn't upto my expectation. One would expect a sort of richness of butter and sweetness in Rajasthani cuisine which was kind of absent here. Desserts were below average too. One thing I loved was the Jal Jeera which was the real deal. I believe there are better options if you want a Rajasthani meal.

The thalis quality is not that great, it's a mediocre level restaurant. Please do not visit this thali, the parking charges are 100 RS, try other better thalis, Like maharaja bhog and others.

If you want to have light thali meals, though unlimited, but not overloaded with innumerable dishes, this is the place to go in for. Ordered Gujarati and Maharashtrian thalis... dishes had authentic flavours, not very spicy, Good service, good ambience. The minus was sweet dishes ( fruit custard and gulag jamun)... should be serving some genuine Gujarati/ Maharashtrian sweet dishes

Recommended this place for a more local experience. There were a few Thali to choose from, and I went with the mixed thali that had mixture from various styles. It was too much for 1 person (no sharing allowed for Thali) and we could not even try the rice. Mango lassi was also freshly made. Overall, a good experience.

Had Gujrati thali today n being a bank holiday the cost increases. It was Rs 625. They don't have anything special or extra at this high cost for a thali. Even the sweet dishes on offer were only fruit custard n doodhi halwa. When you charge so much for a thali you should serve better stuff. I had ordered dal dhokli wherein the dhokli was undercooked and i sent it twice. Still was not happy at all. The quantity was very less for the price. And above all this they charge extra for packing. It maybe a popular restaurant but we were not satisfied at all. They must update their menu with the current prices on the internet.

More of a hype than taste and excellence. I tried a Maharashtra thali and was disappointed to see there was dhokla (gujrati) for one of the snack. One of the legume curry was Val which was not good at all. No thalipeet, Nothing made of besan as is common in Maharashtra. No kothmir Bhaji, no shrikhand... fruit custard was one of the dessert - yummy but not the theme. For the amount I paid, this was a let down for me.

We have have been visiting this restaurant for ages now. Thalis are one of best, rich & heavy. The decore & book store still classic/elegant. Our favourites are Sabzi Kamini (you read it right), tawa paneer, dal fry. This doesn't mean others are equally yummy. Makes sure you reach before 0730 pm on week ends or have reservation if planning late dinner.

Probably the best thali I have ever had in recent times. The Rajasthani thali as well as the Gujarati thali were superb. The restaurant is really hygienic and the food served is fresh thus making the experience a whole lot better. The waiters and manager are really sweet. Must try if you are on the lookout for a thali in town!

It was one of the best place for thali but unfortunately the day we went, there were no good items and no aamras during the mango season. The number of items were less than expected.

Awesome experience. We just entered this normal looking restuarant because we had nowhere else to go. But what an amazing experience it was ! Really authentic Rajisthani and gujarati food . Ordered gate ka saag, daal , khasta roti and normal roti. A must try - khasta roti. This will take 25 mins to bake. We were so awwed, forgot to click photos.

Hi friends, my husband had heard a lot about this vegetarian thali restaurant called CHETANA at kala ghoda, mumbai and had been wanting to dine here for a long time now. So tonight we ventured out to this place. And what a disappointment it was. We’ll never ever visit this place again. My husband chose the Gujarati thali and I opted for Maharashtrian thali. Starters are the same whichever of the 4 thalis you choose. 2 of the 3 starters served were dry and stale: mini batata wada or potato balls which were good, patrel and dhokla were so dry it seemed as if they were out of the microwave oven, the vegetables were not upto the mark. Except for it’s manager Mr. Anil who was so very courteous and ready to help us. Twice he went into the kitchen himself to get us fresh patrel and then again to get us dahi kadhi with extra baghaar and garnishing, which made all the difference for the rice to have. So that one star is for Mr. Anil’s service, otherwise only 2 stars from me for this so very hyped Chetana thali restaurant. Other vegetarian thali restaurants you can try is golden star thali at Charni Road near saifee hospital and rajdhani thali at market city mall in kurla. These 2 are not so grand looking but the food is awesome if that interests you more.

Good place to eat Thali in Mumbai. The place is located at Kala ghoda. They have three types of Thali's Maharashtrian, Gujarati and Rajasthani at affordable price range. Taste is good. Ambience is good. Washbasin area should be improved. They charge Rs. 20 extra on Sunday for all Thali. They also have a book store inside and some clothes too. Overall definitely a must visit place for food.

I knew little or none of the names of the "thali" but felt like i was sitting at a elaborate wedding as waiters whizzed by pausing only to offer me some more food or explain a dish. The food was outstanding and left me wanting more though my tummy was too full. For that kind of originality i gave it 5 stars.

This was my introduction to North Indian Thalis and couldn't have been a better place. You enjoy the finest flavours, all you can eat and topped off with gulab jamun (again all you can manage!) This seems to be an institution and I'd recommend to anyone especially if you're visiting and want to find an unmissable dining experience in the downtown area.
