A nice weekend destination. It will take take 2-3 hours for trek to top. One hour spend at top and 1.5 hours for down trek. In total it will take minimum 5 hours. During monsoon the view is so nice. We should be very carefull on steps while hiking up and down due to chances of slip in muddy trails. It will take minimum one hour to spend at the top of the fort. You should have enough drinking water during trek. Its a moderate level of difficult trek. Have a great time!

It was thrilling experience while climbing the fort. Although it's moderate level trek, It is bit hard for beginner trekkers. Best time to visit- Monsoon. They charge Rs.40 while entering the Karnala Bird sanctuary. Timing is 7am-4pm. There's no entry after 4pm. 2 canteens are there inside. Taste of the food is great and menu rates are very cheap. No plastic allowed inside and if you throw plastic anywhere inside, you've to pay the fine of Rs 500-1000.

It was an amazing trek starting with roads to jungles and finally reaching top through ladder. The view on the trail of the path is mesmerizing. Be aware of the monkeys during trek and try to avoid having snacks during trail as you will land up by monkeys chasing you till end. One can start the trek only after 7am as the ticket counter and gates opens post 7am. Individual charges: 60Rs Car Parking: 195Rs CAMERA charges: 195Rs If you are carrying snacks like lays or kurkure or chocolate you need to deposit 100rs at the entry gate just an awareness trick so that you will carry the plastic back to your start point and keep the place clean.

This is a good trek for the amature trekkers. It takes around 2 hours to climb up and 1 hour to get down The views from the top are breathtaking There's no food and water on top, so better bring it with you. You'll get all the food and refreshment options at the base only. It's 35-40 minutes away from Panvel Railway and Bus station. Parking charges and visiting tickets are there, Rs. 60 per adult. Absolutely recommended in Monsoon & Winter season

Good simple trek for beginners, nearby from Mumbai and you can cover it in one day. Short and sweet 2 hour Trek from the base till top of the Karnala fort. - The car/ bike parking is the worst part, they took good amount for parking. [ remove one start ⭐ for this ] - There are monkeys in that area so you people should take care of your camera or mobiles. - No food and water is available during the trek or at the to so please carry lots of water bottles & food. Amazing place for trekking. Must visit!!!😍❤️

Go for the hike in monsoon. It is the best time. But if you are planning to go any other time, you must start your journey early in the morning. Try to reach the start point by 7-8 am and try to finish it by mid day. You will get food from there with reasonable price. Plastics are not allowed. You have to make counted to the guards the number of plastics which you would carry for the hike. On return, the number should be same or the caution money will not be returned after the hike. So for beginners, start with Karnala, it will be the best for you. Enjoy.

Be aware of the monkeys during trek and try to avoid having snacks during trail as you will land up by monkeys chasing you till end .avoid giving them food then it won't happen One can start the trek only after 7am as the ticket counter and gates opens post 7am. Individual charges: 60Rs Car Parking: 195Rs CAMERA charges: 195Rs of karnala bird sanctuary forest charges u have to pay at the gate then ur journeys will start We won't take the snacks but If you are carrying snacks like lays or kurkure or chocolate you need to deposit 100rs at the entry gate just an awareness trick so that you will carry the plastic back to your start point and keep the place clean. don't put our plastic bottles at the top to make clean the jungle as well as fort area

Good treking for beginners. Points to keep in mind, 1. From panvel station get a cab for a group of 8 or more people's at around 300 per cab ( you can bargain). 2. Bring plastics items as few as possible, as even plastic water bottles are charged as a Deposit amount (They count plastic items & usually charge 100 rs for plastic), which gets refunded when you come down & show them the count. 3. Bring water bottles up the hill as nothing is available at the top. 4. Parking is available for 2 & 4 wheeler.

It is an easy to medium level (difficulty wise) type of trek amidst the natural flora and fauna. The views from the top are awe inspiring! The best time to do this is surely monsoon as the frequent shower of rain relieves you from the heat of climbing. It is important to start early to spot beautiful creatures in nature and also carry a good amount of water to keep yourself hydrated. Happy trekking!

A great Place for one day hiking or picnic near Mumbai. The main gate of sanctuary was visible from the highway before now because of metalsheets on the sides of the road it gets little confusing .For picnic try enjoying at the base of the fort, there is small hotel inside sanctuary. Hiking must start before 8:00 Am as the road to fort is not very neat includes rocky patches and in sunlight you will feel exhausted. bring water bottles as the trek is about of 2-3 hrs. try not to bring heavy things in your bagpack as you will be tired while climbing. Be careful while climbing as the trek is through jungle and it has various insects. In the starting of trek there is a waterfall but try not to waste your time there. there is water on the fort but its not very clean but you can drink in case of emergency. the water tastes so good and is so chill. top view of the fort will make you forget yourself for a bit.

This is the easiest Trek that one could possibly do. The nearest railway station is Panvel, from there you can hire a rickshaw and reach the fort. It's also a bird sanctuary and therefore you get to see different birds. It is very quiet and calm place and makes you truly connect with nature. This should definitely be your weekend getaway.

Beautiful place for trekking, relaxing form the city and discovering various wildlife flora n fauna, Just on the outskirts of mumbai it's very good experience for a one day picnic with Family n friends, Do take water bottles some snacks(beware of monkeys while eating) with you, as only 1 hotel is available at the base so before stating the trek you must be ready. Can explore a lots especially for beautiful nature as well as wildlife photography

It's takes 45 min from panvel station to reach the base of this Trek site. It's has entry fees per person. It's an easy trek takes 1.5 hrs to reach the top and 1 hr to come down. Monsoon season is perfect to go on this trek. There is good views from the peak. Once you return down to base there is small restaurant where you can have an amazing misal pav. We missed to take a pic of the dish but it's a must try. Just before reaching the gate the restaurant is there. Misal and hot tea is a recommended one.

You may trek to the fort after visiting the Karnala bird sanctuary, where you can spot multiple varieties of bird species from dedicated viewing points. The trek to the Fort is completely rocky and slippery at some places, so trekking shoes are advisable.

Pay 35rs per person with nationality card like pan card, adhaar card or voting card.. College ID can also... After that they'll check your bag how much plastic things you have they'll note total number and then one have to deposit 100rs... They count every plastic like if you have chocolates they count wrapper 😂😂also for cleanliness of place still good at end.. To get back 100rs you have to collect it before 5pm... Then all this chaos you can enjoy trip 😝😂... It was my first trek while climbing🧗‍♂️ in starting it's easy then slowly it became hard and at final point hardest... All it was worthy that me and didn't give up reach at top point of karnala fort... Thank god there was water available inside the fort ❤... Traditional way storing water inside 😍😍it was clean and cool in the afternoon.... Top view point is really beautiful😍✨❤ Must visit once as it is near by Mumbai ✌✌✌ Also there are monkeys🐒🐒 stay alert and close your tiffins when you see them tip of the day 🤣🤣

Karnala Fort is a historical fort in Panvel, Maharashtra, that offers great hiking opportunities. It's also home to the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, which is a popular spot for bird watchers and nature lovers. The bird sanctuary covers an area of around 12.11 square kilometers and has over 150 different types of birds. You can do activities like bird watching, nature walks, and trekking in the sanctuary. You can also visit the Karnala Fort, which is located inside the sanctuary. Although the fort is in ruins, the view from the top is amazing and gives you an idea of the area's rich history. The combination of the stunning views and the variety of wildlife in the sanctuary make it a perfect weekend getaway spot. Carry enough food and water for this hiking

Good experience. Management team should consider setting up some refreshment centers on the way to fort (visitors will benefit from water bottles/tea/coffee/cold drinks etc.) and medical help. I hope this will not affect nature or wildlife.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Karnala Fort in Panvel during the rainy season, and it was an absolute delight. The fort's timeless allure combined with the mesmerizing monsoon weather created an unforgettable experience. To fully enjoy Karnala Fort during the rainy season, I recommend wearing appropriate footwear and carrying rain gear. Accessibility-wise, reaching the fort was relatively easy, and there were informative guides available to shed light on its historical significance. Basic facilities such as parking and restrooms were also conveniently located nearby. I highly recommend visiting Karnala Fort in the rainy season for a truly unforgettable getaway.

A good trek which took almost 2 hrs 30mins from entry to reaching the peak with some breaks in between. Make sure to carry enough water and some food (please don’t litter plastic) downhill got little tricky as it was raining. View is good during morning. Avoid going on weekends. Entry is 60₹/person. 50₹ parking for 2 wheelers and 195₹ for four wheeler.

  • 5/5 Vinit P. 9 months ago on Google
Many call it a easy trek, but it's not exactly easy as it has steep patches in between. Coming as early as possible is best way to enjoy this trek and clouds in monsoon. Due to rain the mud gets slippery, so wear shoes atleast.

A Beautiful Nature trek nearby to Panvel, Maharastra. Trek inside the forest to reach the peak of Beauty, one among many in Maharastra. Please carry enough water while trekking as there are no shops in between. Public transport is available from Panvel to base camp which makes this one of the most accessible treks.

An awesome place to go. Im glad about the no litter policy. The trek was steep and rocky at many places. You need good stamina to reach all the way. Difficult trek were beginners. We started around around 12.30 pm and reached the top by 3 pm. It took us some time as we went very slow ( im a beginner ) and rested several times. There is a beautiful waterfall enroute. After reaching the top, the view is breathtaking. Worth all the effort. We had a picnic lunch at the top. Enjoyed the view and started down trek at about 4.15. Getting down was tricky as the slope was steep and it became very slippery after the rain. We reached the entry point by 6 pm. But the firt was closed when we went. So just reached the foot of the fort and returned back. Some tips 1. Carry water, energy drinks, fruits. 2. Start early. Post 5 pm it becomes a little dark and you may the only one coming down. 3. Plan to reach the top by lunch time and enjoy a picnic at the top. Caution: If you are carrying disposable cutlery, the team at the entrance will take rs 100 deposit, count the items and will give back the deposit after you show then the same count after returning. So carry some extra bag to carry back the litter. The team will disappear by 5.30 Pm. So if your reach later than that, you wil lose your deposit amount. Tissue papers are not allowed. Enjoy your trek.

Karnala Fort is a hill fort in Raigad district, Maharashtra, India, about 10 km from Panvel city. Currently it is a protected place lying within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It was a place of strategic importance since it overlooked the Bor pass, which connected the Konkan coast to the interior of Maharashtra on the main trade route between these areas.

The trail leading to Karnala fort, also called Funnel Hill, is most popular. The 125-feet high basalt pillar at the center of the fort, sticks out like a thumb which earned it the nickname of Karnala ‘Thumbs Up’ point. Karnala used to be a great rock-climbing destination but several bee hives have made it risky. The two distinct seasons for bird-watching are the monsoons (good for spotting the Malabar whistling thrush, the magpie robin and the paradise flycatcher) and winters (when you can spot the migratory birds) when the blue throat, the black headed cuckoo-shrike, the blue-headed rock-thrush, blackbird and the red breasted flycatcher flock to the sanctuary during winter.
