The Grotto Tavern is a beautiful dining experience set in a cave, with dimly lit candles and understated decor. If the ambiance wasn’t enough, the food was spectacular. We had the grotto experience, which was a delicious, imaginative five course menu, where each dish was a work of art. Our server Greg was knowledgeable, friendly and not overbearing in the slightest - a true fine dining expert. Overall, we had a lovely time, and it was one of the most creative meals I’ve ever had. Amazing!

Thoroughly enjoyed the dinner we had here. It was even better than the Michelin restaurant that we went to on the island. Very interesting ingredients and absolutely lovely staff that answered all our questions and made us feel welcome. Interior is also so wonderful, the cave is stunning. Would definitely recommend.

Went to Grotto Tavern for a fancy night out and had such an incredibly delicious time! Had the 7 course tasting menu by none other than the brilliant head chef Terence Paul Saliba! Every course was a work of art - fun, beautifully presented and prepared to perfection! A celebration of favours, an attention to details and a variety of scrumptious dishes...a meal to remember! Paired with a pre-fpod cocktail to get the taste buds ready and a good wine for the meal...it was truly a fantastic experience! Highly recommended!

Absolutely delicious! We ordered coffee, lemon+mint infusion and one small breakfast brioche with fried egg, caramelized onions, cheese and hash browns. It was quick and almost under 10€. This young serveur was so friendly and smiling all the time! Thanks!

Always happy to visit the Grotto Tavern! This is our second time dining here, and we are simply mesmerized. The environment is one for the books. You get to really relax here, and immerse in the beauty of it all. If you make a reservation, do so at the grotto itself. The rest of the restaurant is also beautifully decorated, but the grotto is the uniqueness of this place. For starters, we went for pasta. While my choice was nothing to write home about, my husband's gnocchi were simply to die for! The fillet steaks as our mains were remarkable, as were our "imqaret bombs" for our desserts. By the end of our dinner we were stuffed, but we were too at ease to feel it! Thank you for another memorable and romantic night!

Didn’t experience the cave, was never seated inside, but the dining room. We were promised to get seated in the cave when a table gets free, we didn’t. The food was good, but nothing special. Didn’t like the fish stuffing, should be just a whole peace of fish with no stuffing. Duck was alright. Foie Gras was completely different from what I was expecting, with sweet jelly, would be nice to note it on the menu, I would of order something else for the appetizer. Probably a good place for a date. An OK experience for one time dinner experience

What an amazing experience. Having lived in Malta ten years ago, how much has changed. However, it is for the better. The food was amazing and the service even better. Michael had great knowledge about wines and Greg knows his food. Definitely book this place, but when I say book, I meen book as it fills up fast. Great place outside the tourist areas.

What a great restaurant. We had really good service and the food was excellent. The location though - walking down the stairs into essentially a cave with beautiful lighting and thoughtfully designed. It’s quite small and intimate and a special dining experience.

The serving staff were phenomenal and really made the experience. That said, the food was just okay, and we had much better meals at other (less expensive) restaurants in Malta. The cave ambience was nice, but much smaller than anticipated. Overall it was an okay meal, made better by funny and attentive servers, but it's not a restaurant I would recommend for what we paid for it.

What a great evening! After a great dinner 3 days ago we came back again for another dinner. Again We enjoyed the food and the service of Micheal, Greg and Masie very much. Looking forward to come back again 👍👍👍👍

I had my birthday dinner here recently and what stood out most was the service! Our waiter was funny, engaging, and very knowledgeable. He and the team went above and beyond to make it a memorable evening, going as far as including a handwritten birthday card. The setting is beautiful- highly recommend sitting in the lower level (the cave). The music was a little slow, something more upbeat would have added to the ambiance. The food was mostly delicious. I recommend the rabbit pasta and the aubergine dessert!

If you ever come to Malta, do not miss Grotto Tavern! The dishes are delicious, very well thought and combine various ingredients that end up complimenting each other perfectly. The atmosphere is amazing, while the staff were very kind and helpful. Definitely have a look at their cocktail menu as well!

In my opinion one of the best and most interesting restaurants in Malta.Chef is very talented and besides he has the top technique of cooking.I came here twice already, tried from fish to meats. Excellent way of cooking and quality. Service is marvellous and place itself stunning.

The whole experience was out of this world. The food was very good, I’m amazed it isn’t Michelin star. Greg, Michael and Maise created the entire atmosphere. Really lovely people, felt like we’ve known them for years! Absolutely recommend, worth every penny and would’ve paid more!

We had a lovely experience in Grotto Tavern last night. Greg, Michael, Marcy and Isaac provided an amazing service. Food is gourmet, creative and very tasty. The aubergine dessert was delectable. The ambiance is on point and very romantic, we loved having dinner inside a natural cave! I even got a lovely card from the restaurant for my birthday! 100% recommended.

Amazing food experience and superb service from all waiters. The atmosphere of dining inside of a cave was unbelievable! We had a 5 course menu, and at the beginning, we thought we would be satisfied and the portions were quite small. But at the end it was just perfect! Highly recommended for great quality of food and high quality of service. Well done to the whole team!

Incredible dining experience! The atmosphere in the case room is amazing. Being just recommended in the Michelin Guide is not enough, this place deserves a Michelin star. It’s rare to have staff as good as the one in Grotto Tavern. Everyone from the start to the end took extreme care to make sure the guest were satisfied with every single detail the pace offers. Menu wise -wow , every single dish from the seven course menu was beyond perfect! Amazing and unique ingredients were used in all seven meals.

We was sitting outside in the street, because it was summer time :-). Tried coctails and traditional food " Rollo Maltese". The food was deliciuos. But I have one request please add non- alkoholic coctails in your menu for example pina colada, negroni or mojito and etc. I think hot summer day it would be nice to refresh with non - alko coctails as well.

Convenient Cafe with outdoor seating. There was some interesting live entertainment in the square in the middle of the day. The coffee was pretty weak and the service was slow. Nice people, but my wife and I finished our espresso before our traveling companion received his cappuccino.

Chef Mark builds on Maltese staples to propose a very compelling menu. The location in a natural cave is absolutely memorable. Michael, Greg and the rest of the team were super welcoming and knowledgeable

A special Valentine's Day! We gifted ourselves this beautiful experience. Really elegant and unique location! We reserved the table in the grotto. Very impressive room many meters below street level. Congratulations to all the staff, they welcomed us in a professional way! The food was beyond expectations, with combinations I would say worthy of a Michelin star! Compliments to the chef Terence Paul Saliba and his team. The service was also excellent, Michael and Greg had attention to every detail. Each dish and combination was explained to us with professionalism, also advising us on the order of tasting! The products are fresh and of high quality. Compliments! We will be back. The Grotto Tavern was absolutely incredible. The service was smooth, warm and engaging. The ambience sitting in the cave was otherworldly and so fitted to the location in Malta. Music was relaxing and on point. Each dish from the starters to the very last dish was memorable, considered and remarkable. Each dish was in perfect harmony in texture, depth and favour. I’m a pescatarian but had to try the beef, it was the best dish I’ve ever eaten. Terence himself came out regularly to check in and explain the dishes. The entire experience was seamless and considered. Everything slowed down here and the food and wine were magic.

Fantastic night out for my mom's birthday. We got the best care possible from Michael and the rest of the team. The chef is just superb! We truly enjoyed our night out and especially appreciate the gesture of a hand-written note for my mom's special night. Thank you for a wonderful and unforgettable evening!

The wife found this place by chance and after reading the reviews, we decided to try it out. Plus how often do you get to eat in an actual cave! To say the least, not only did it meet our expectations, this place by far exceeded it. From the 5 course meal (with an option for a 7 course), to a great selection of wines, and its amazing staff, it is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. The foods had such a spectacular array of taste, that your taste buds went into sensory overload. (In a good way, lol) The cave, with all the candles, relaxed lighting and great music, makes it a truly intimate experience. With that being said, the best part was Greg and Malla who started out as wait staff, but by the end they were like family. Initially they explained the food, it's ingredients and preparation, but by the end of the night, they were so personable that we were talking about families, travels and swapping life stories. They were so great that while in between courses, Greg showed us a small opening at the corner of the cave. Once we went through the opening, it was a makeshift bunker used during WW2. Looking at the walls and the engravings left by the troops puts into perspective what they endured during the war. You won't get that experience in any other restaurant. The whole experience from start to end was memorable and one that won't be forgotten anytime soon. Thanks Greg and Malla

The experience was amazing. The local is beautiful!! The food is very good and the staff super friendly. Definitely worth it to take a walk around this amazing place and eat at Grotto Tavern !

Rad service and outstanding food. Convenient location and has a very cozy atmosphere. I enjoyed every second in Grotto Tavern. Very generous portions too!

Lovely ambience. Food very good. Waiter service excellent. Rather disappointing that despite only booking less than an hour earlier the restaurant had no record of our reservation. Fortunately they had a table considering our hassle parking in Rabat. Also disappointing was that the sous chef came out at the end of the evening, only to ignore all her customers and spend about twenty minutes chatting to (presumably) friends of hers at one table. At a restaurant of this calibre, if the chef comes out, one expects her to show wider interest in her customers, and what they think of her cooking.

Amazing experience, with an exciting and well executed menu, fantastic service, delicious food and great wine list. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a special night in Medina/Malta, the price for the food is not so expensive for what they offer and the ambience is very unique and worth the visit. Hope to be back.

Had an incredible meal here tonight, the attention to detail by the waiters. The food quality and the general atmosphere made it an evening to remember, I can't wait till the next time I am back, it was noted that their whisky offering was extensive but they need to improve on their rum variety. I can't wait to go back and try all the new rums they have to offer ;)

The service by Greg, Michael and Masie was excellent! They were very knowledgeable about the food they were serving which definitely added to the Grotto experience. I was dining solo, but I did not feel lonely as they were all very friendly and I had lovely conversations with them. Dining in a cave was a first and I could not stop looking around and admiring the place. Overall, I had a great night. Thank you!
