Lovely place to explore. Very small so not much time required to walk around the whole place. Dog friendly.

Neath Abbey was a Cistercian monastery, It was once the largest abbey in Wales. Substantial ruins can still be seen, established in 1129, it also became a Cistercian house. The abbey was ravaged by the Welsh uprisings of the 13th century. At this time, the abbey was turned into a large estate, initially granted to Richard Williams, although by 1600 it was owned by Sir John Herbert, and had a substantial Tudor mansion occupying a part of the cloisters. The mansion itself was only habitable for 100 years or so, before being abandoned as the site became a scene of industry. The information boards as you go in have been vandalised, so nothing to read, the wooden bench with information (press a button) is still working though, but plenty of information on the internet, it was a lot bigger than we thought, some great architecture around, especially the hand rail, (banister) nice clean site, there's a bit of scaffolding around one area, Free entry (although Cadw) with a small car park right by the castle entrance, room for about 6 cars.

Amazing piece of history, if the weather is good plenty of space for a family picnic. Canal that runs behind is a nice place for a walk. Anyone with a drone it's a great place to fly

Fabulous ruins of Neath Abbey. Currently has parts of the building fenced off for safety reasons. Info board at the entrance and a couple of talk posts dotted around giving an insight into the history of the Abbey. Free entry and limited roadside parking too. Ideal for an hour or so if not raining.

As a society we are fascinated with visiting places like the coliseum in Rome or the leaning Tower of Pisa. But in reality we have the most incredible artifacts right here in the UK and Neath aAbby is one of those. It's fascinating, full of history and on our door step. A must visit free entry perfect for a picnic

Amazing how much is standing, the Abbey is ruined but has enough to show what was there, look out for the talking bench for more information... the monks quarters were converted into an Manor house so an interesting collection of ruins. Well worth a visit

Beautiful looking and well worth taking the dog here. It's completely free. It's usually pretty quiet and you have the option of walking up the canal ways also. Free parking and plenty of open green spaces.

Cant beat old ruins to nose about in and also learn a bit of history as the ruins have audio points placed about. Small parking area, easily accessible and good for the dog too.

Massive site with one of the most extensive collections of abbey ruins in the UK. Could use a little more interpretation/signage to explain things.

This place would have been both enormous and stunning in its day. Beautiful place to wander around, although it's a shame the only intact room is now closed to the public. We'll worth a visit and totally free!

Twelfth century Cisticern Abbey just in the outskirts of Neath. It's a very large site with very substantial ruins and it's free to visit. There's a bus stop only 2 minutes walk away as well so easily accessible.

We love coming here. The plenty of room for the kids to run around. We come here at least once a week with the dog.

Neath Abbey Ruins. A lovely place to visit full of Neath History. Does currently have parts fenced off for safety reasons which is a shame but understandable. Info board at the entrance and a couple of talk posts dotted around giving an insight into the history of the Abbey but could maybe do with some more interactive features. Free entry and limited roadside parking. Was disappointed on arrival to find rubbish and dog poo all over the grass next to the parking area which had two perfectly good bins available. Made for a disappointing start but overall a pleasant walk around.

These public grounds are well maintained, steeped in history and easily accessible. It's all flat and a delight to visit especially for history buffs. Parking is hit and miss but there is limited parking available.

Bizarre and forgotten place. Right next to a busy main road and industrial estate, an oasis of ruin splendour in amongst the traffic noise and surroundings. Worth seeing if in the area, but not worth making a trip to.

Found this while visiting the Gower and wanting a break from the beach scene. Kids loved it, really interesting place, some good architecture still in place. Handy speakers located around site to give you interesting information. A nice quiet escape from the half term bustle.
