Joondalup Hospital Emergency Room

Emergency room

šŸ˜  Another disgraceful visit to what Iā€™m sure is ā€œAustraliaā€™s WORST hospitalā€ 10pm took my wife who is 12 weeks pregnant with twins. After telling the nurse sheā€™s been on antibiotics for 2 days with a chest infection but can barely move from continuous vomiting, not eaten in 2 days and canā€™t even hold... 23/05/2023 22:50 I would like to share my exceptional experience with the doctors and nurses at this hospital. When my son was born here, the level of care we received was truly outstanding. The dedication and expertise displayed by the medical staff were commendable, and I firmly believe that the quality of service provided is unmatched. However, I must address a concern regarding the emergency room. While I understand that the wait times may be beyond the control of the doctors and nurses, it is disheartening that the wait can be excessively long. Additionally, the chairs in the waiting area are extremely uncomfortable, especially during extended periods of waiting. I strongly suggest that the hospital management considers procuring better chairs to alleviate the discomfort experienced by patients and their families. On a personal note, during one visit to the emergency room, I found myself in unbearable pain, particularly in my back. Unfortunately, due to the lack of available beds, I had no alternative but to lie on the floor for several hours. Others lied across chairs as well. It was a distressing experience, and I hope that measures will be taken in the future to improve the situation and provide a more comfortable environment for patients in need. Despite these challenges, I remain optimistic that the hospital will work towards enhancing its services, especially in the emergency room. The medical staff's dedication and commitment to delivering exceptional care are evident, and I have no doubt that improvements can be made to further enhance the overall experience for patients. Wishing the hospital the best in its endeavors. Cheers!

Terrible experience every time I come here. Nurse at ER front desk was rude and dismissive from the get go. Didnā€™t take any time to listen to my case and decided after a quick look, that the road rash from my motorcycle crash 2 days prior didnā€™t need a bandage despite me being unable to even have my shirt touch it. Saw another few nurses who adamantly agreed it needed to be cleaned and bandaged. Donā€™t understand how sheā€™s a qualified nurse itā€™s actually a bit concerning. The doctor that fixed me up was very professional and helpful. But joondalup, please stop hiring cranky old women to handle the front desks, itā€™s setting everyone up for a horrible experience from the beginning.

āļø I had an incredibly frustrating experience at Joondalup Emergency. The wait time was over 10 hours, which is unacceptable for any emergency department. What's even more disheartening is the lack of attention to pain management. It took a staggering 6 hours before any medication was provided. Even then, subsequent doses were only administered after I had to inquire. The communication was abysmal - promises of prompt care were left unfulfilled, and updates were non-existent. The uncomfortable seating only exacerbated the ordeal. It's disheartening to feel neglected in a place meant for urgent care.

So very disappointed with this Hospital. The staff were very good but perhaps their decision making needs to be reassessed. My daughter was taken there yesterday by ambulance because she fell down about 12 stairs at her home during the night. She knocked herself out and blacked out. After being examined, it was found she had a broken collarbone, bruising, 2 black swollen eyes and a busted chin. They discharged her that same day and sent her home with Panadeine Forte and told her to take it easy. I think the very least she should have stayed in there overnight for observation and possible concussion. Iā€™m very very disappointed.

I am shocked at the waiting times. The emergency room was so full there were no chairs to sit on. Average waiting times are 4 hours minimum. Son 8yrs old went it with appendix swollen. 5 hrs later still no results. 3rd world countries have better hospitals.

Had the best experience visiting the paediatric ED, I think we were quite lucky as we beat the rush so the wait was very short. My baby was so excited to get out of the house that he almost seemed too well to be there. But the nurses and doctors were so lovely and gave us the proper amount of care. Dr Chow was very kind and thorough in her examination. The senior doctor was also amazing and even sang our baby a Wiggles song to keep him happy. It was so refreshing to be so well looked after in an ED. It's the first time I've been discharged, and been confident with the treatment and care.

i came into the emergency department where i was met with rude staff members, uncomfortable chairs & a ridiculous waiting time!!!!!!! one member of staff in particular, the clerk, was rude & dismissed mine & my partners concerns about her pain & discomfort. considering we didnt see a nurse come into the waiting room for over an hour the clerk was the only option. also took myself and her asking MULTIPLE times to get pain relief. extremely disappointed.

I had a few pains in my stomach area for around 3-4 weeks, and finally I decided that it got to much. I visited the Joondalup Hospital Emergency Room, and from the very first moment that I arrived the staff were absolutely amazing! I know that obviously they are just doing their job, but I felt that they were super efficient, even with the natural waiting time which is to be expected at any A&E around the world. My Doctor was especially on point, as were the Nurses. I have taken the time to write this review, as I don't often require trips to the hospital. This experience has given me lots of confidence should I ever need to go again. Thank you to everyone that helped me yesterday.

I have been in the ED several times unfortunately. Every time I have found the level of care to be of the highest standard. Yes the wait times can be long but that reflects the nature of an ED and the continuing staff shortages they face. I have, however, been horrified at the misuse of the ED department. Numerous patients highly intoxicated and people there for reasons that could easily have been dealt with at home or by waiting for a GP.

I write to commend and thank the staff of the ED on Tuesday 25 July who cared so professionally and compassionately for a young couple from Vanuatu here as seasonal harvesters, and for the first time in the Australian culture . The care offered to the wife after a scary and for a time debilitating medical event in a remote work place nearly 2 hours from Joondalup and your capacity in your incredibly busy work flow to give consideration and permission for me to be present with them as a support person, speaks volumes about the excellence of your training, of your business work ethos, and the dedication and character of your staff. To the Lancelin ambulance team who were first to reassure this couple whose homeland medical experiences can be unnerving, the telephone operators who respectfully & efficiently paved the way for me to be present with this fine couple, the hugely skilled tech staff in Ultra sound, ECG, & Xray, and the incredibly proficient Drs and nurses we met during the two part shifts that we were with you, I extend my deep thanks for your kind and generous assistance. You made a huge impact on the three of us, and with each interaction offered assurance, comfort and hope. It has been said often - and I say again - you are heroes in a extremely difficult profession. Please know that your influence goes deeper than just healing the physical body. Your connection with your patients changes lives and restores faith, hope and confidence at some of the scariest times in peoples lives. Yours is indeed a "Calling" and you need to know and remember that your smiles & words, kindness, and greatly skilled actions reduce the trauma to hasten the healing physically, emotionally and mentally. Contact with the couple today is testimony to that. Thank you and bless you all.

I want to shout out to all the wonderful nurses and staff working in the emergency room. Last weekend I was admitted with pretty severe food poisoning and started receiving care very promptly, even being provided some medication in the waiting room. Got through to a bed very quickly and was looked after by a wonderful nurse named Bec, thank you so much Bec! Even though it was quite a wait before the doctor was able to see me, the nurses provided such good care throughout my time there that I came right pretty quickly. Thank you wonderful staff at Joondalup Hospital ā¤ļø

I have taken my elderly father here a couple of times for various emergencies. The staff are amazing, kind empathetic and prioritise appropriately. I have while in the waiting area witnessed several people demanding to be seen urgently when the Triage Nurse has advised them to please wait. After they are advised they have to wait, they storm out with abuse, clearly not an emergency.
