Small restaurant - reservations recommended, or come early. Everything appears homemade and garlic in every savoury dish. My wrap had garlic incorporated into the pita bread. My kids picked cheeseburgers and french fries and didn't appear to notice the garlic and chives mixed in - very flavourful. Younger one kept saying it was spicy, but he meant with flavour and did eat most of his burger. My spouse was pleased with the heat on the habenero chicken burger. We enjoyed the decor and want to come back another day to try some desserts. Update: only order the poutine if you like garlic! The cream sauce in place of gravy was unique and still very good.

I had never been to this restaurant and we dropped in to use a coupon out of our Passport to the Kootenays. The food was incredible! Since the coupon was for two dishes under $15 we got a couple of starters, the perogies and the calamari. Absolutely wonderful. We will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu. Our server was lovely as well. Very nice experience overall.

Pleasant surprise! This restaurant is No longer a garlic based restaurant, it IS a Hungarian restaurant that is heavy on garlic so they seem to have kept the name but changed everything else (no more roasted garlic appy on the menu) I am not super familiar with Hungarian food, but I decided to jump in and give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised! The flatbread is small, deep fried bread (yum) which I find sweet and chewy. Got the mushroom paprishka(?) And all the food, it was enough for two people to eat. The ceasers are garlicy as hell so I LOVED them... Food was tasty, friendly service, a bit slow and menu isn't as busy as it could be but it has enough to be able to find something. I see they've also added more vegetarian options. Wouldn't say being vegan here is easy, but vegetarian no worries.

This place is excellent! Food was fantastic. Great patio. Fair prices. Good portions. By far, this was some of the best food we enjoyed during our two week trip. We enjoyed lunch here (mushroom crepes) and returned a few days later for dinner. Highly, very highly recommend!

Made a reservation for Saturday late afternoon. Place was empty when we arrived and we got to choose a pretty setting by the window. Server was very friendly and mindful of COVID protocols. Had the 1/2 order of Halusky, which was pure comfort food goodness. Reminds me of a creamy Gnocci and Cheese. 40 Clove Fries is a knock out and must eat. So much garlic and the fries were light and crispy. Reminds me of an elevated version of McDonald’s fries. Also tried the Cordon Clove. The roasted garlic stuffed inside was so good. The chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy. I was hoping the mashed potatoes would have garlic in it. Unfortunately it was a little on the bland side, but maybe my tastebuds were overwhelmed with so much garlic from the other dishes. Definitely a place to visit when you’re in Nelson. The happy hour food menu from 3-5pm is a great way to try a lot of fantastic dishes. Will be back again!

Wow! Potent, raw but not painful garlic. I almost never order just salad but serendipitously did and that Goat Herder Salad is bomb. I'd lick the plate too had I known someone else before me did. Such lovely service to boot.

Dinner was fabulous. We weren't sure what to expect as the menu is anything but usual. The cabbage rolls were wonderful and not skimpy on meat. The chicken paprikash was very good as well. This little restaurant has such a nice atmosphere. There is outdoor seating but I recommend getting a table inside. I also recommend making a reservation. Prices are fair. Portions are fair. Flavors are superb and service was excellent.

Lovely restaurant with great food and friendly staff. Ordered the goulash and poutine after reading some of the comments on Google, and I was not disappointed. The goulash was exactly what one would expect of this simple meal, but the seasoning was perfect. The poutine was delicious, with the right ratio of cheese, gravy and toppings. I’m glad to see people trying more interesting flavours and adding their special touch to this simple staple dish. I will come back for sure!

Favorite restaurant in town! Everything we had was delicious. The cabbage rolls, pirogies, crepes, and fried pickles were all fantastic. Portions were generous and the Caesars were the best we’ve ever had!

Wonderful, unusual but not pretentious food. I think this is one of my favorite restaurants in BC. Lovely staff, great service. This was my first time here but can't wait to go back to Nelson for more. We had poutine, mushroom crepes and garlic potato soup, all of which were delish..

That langos bread is sooooo good. I took it home and made a breakfast sandwich for the morning. This photo is Mushroom Paprikash. I had it with mashed potatoes rather than the spaetzle. I found the portion size of the mash was a little small but the dish was great!

The best food we ate our entire honeymoon in Canada. The garlic Caesar salad was one of the best I’ve ever had. The flatbread was delicious too (and the leftovers made for a great breakfast the next morning), and the poutine was hands down the best poutine I’ve ever had. Even the vanilla garlic ice cream was to die for. We might have to make it back to Nelson sooner than planned, just to have another meal here at Outer Clove....

My first experience with Hungarian food - this place was a total gem! I’m an adventurous eater and tried some (apparently) traditional Hungarian dishes, but there was lots on the menu for someone looking for a burger or pasta. The food was delicious, fresh, and seemed authentic (again, my first experience so I’m going on a bit of a limb with that assessment - regardless, it was all fantastic). Strongly recommend the cherry soup, Hungarian flatbread things, chicken paprikash, and golden raisin crepe! Go here (but not when I’m in town)!

Great little place. It was delighful to eat in front of the huge open window and enjoy watching the people walking by. The food is delicious. Be sure to try the Cherry Soup. Service was great

First restaurant with Central European cuisine I have visited on Canada’s West Coast and it is worth it. The meal selection is unique and delicious with quality ingredients. Of course the customer service is just excellent! My only wish is Czech beer on the tap. Keep it simple, keep it going!

Stopped at the Outer Clove for a Burger and Beer while my wife had business in Nelson.. I have to say.. the $10 Chesse burger and fries deal was an excellent choice Service was impeccable. I enjoyed my meal on the patio out front.

The food was fresh, garlicky, and generous in portion sizing. I found that the extras, such as adding mushroom paprikash onto a schnitzel for $4, were very overpriced for the very small amount you got. The same went for the bacon on the perogies, which was also extra ($3) and almost none was provided for the extra money. Would recommend this place for a meal though! Just stick with menu items and don't pay the extra for more fixings.

We had dinner here last night. Hubby had stroganoff with spetzel and I had cabbage rolls. Food was good enough but we were in a hurry to leave due to the overly loud guitar player with a high pitched voice. Friday's music was excellent- wish we had come that night instead.

  • 5/5 Amber R. 1 year ago on Google
Very please with our experience last night. The atmosphere was so comfortable, and even the live music was lovely and not too loud, so everyone could chat and enjoy themselves. The young lady who served us was polite, helpful, and attentive but gave us lots of space. The food was delicious. Nice sized portions on everything. We enjoyed the calamari and Langos to start. Both were fantastic, and the fried bread was super good. I had a wild mushroom crepe with the salad, the sauce on the crepe was very rich, and I was very happy with the variety of mushrooms inside. My husband ordered Paprikas, which he enjoyed. Their kids' menu is great, and they were happy to grill a bun with just cheese for my picky eater. My oldest got an Orbit veggie burger, which was amazing looking and tasty, according to her. We were a party of 7, and my in-laws were from out of town, this was such a great experience for them, I'm definitely going back soon!

For people who are Celiac it is not a Gluten Free kitchen, everything is done in the same fryer. Food is good but!! The menu need to specify it’s not gluten-free it is gluten friendly!!! I was so excited see all the GF options and have the GF food as it says on the menu but when I showed up and asked they said “it is not a gluten free kitchen” which is very upsetting. For peoples health the menu should say somewhere on it or say on the website it is not a gluten free kitchen and only gluten friendly, only one fryer.

This restaurant features Eastern European cuisine with local ingredients being featured in some interesting ways..my Chicken Cordon Clove was sensational and my wife greatly appreciated her St Martin’s Roast…For dessert our Sacher Torte was simply delicious… Oh I almost forgot we began the meal with a Hungarian Fried bread starter…the service was superb and the cozy atmosphere was perfect….

Only gave 5 stars because 6 wasn't an option. Absolutely amazing! If you are in Nelson you have to check out this little out of the way restaurant.

Delicious and everything homemade. Had the Halusky which was a sort of macaroni cheese but much much better. They have some lovely different specials as well as the old favourites. Very reasonable prices, decent portions, lovely staff.

Every time we pass through nelson we always make a point of coming here for lunch or dinner. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of Canada and Im already looking forward to our next trip. Didn't get a chance to take photos but we got the veggie burger and the cheese burger, side of fries (omg the fries and perfection) and a Caesar salad (which had about a dozen cloves of roasted garlic tossed in it) Our breath stunk for a while after but it's beyond worth it 🧄🧄🧄

We loved everything about this restaurant. Food was warm and hearty. Service was fantastic. If you want just good wholesome food with a twist of being Hungarian. Then this a must when visiting Nelson.

Fall afternoons are perfect for hearty European fare 🏆🍺🍂 This quaint gem definitely transports you to Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Rep and Hungary with their scratch made menu and authentic recipes. Origins start with Helsinki native Katri Skogster who after travelled through Nelson and Kootenays wished to open her dream restaurant in this stunning backdrop. Looking to fuse the beauty of Europe’s cuisine together with the healing elements of garlic, the Outer Clove Restaurant was born in the 1990’s. A locally loved rendezvous and travels delight the Outer Clove thrived for 18 years before changing hands in 2014 with University of Oregon professor Iain Pardoe who wishes to keep the same charm he fell for when visiting the area. Truly always a favourite when I lived in the Kootenays and our new favourite when coming to Nelson. With the warm service, fresh imported beer on tap, worldly wines, perfectly prepared highlights of Europe with the Bohemian atmosphere- you really are in those beautiful countries! 🇨🇿 🇩🇪🇭🇺🇦🇹🇨🇿🍺🥂🍷

I really wanted to like this restaurant, and was so excited about the food, but unfortunately I found it very bland. I should mention that I am very familiar with eastern European food, and this was just not up to par. We ordered garlic, and mushroom soup, as well as the švičková and halušky. All 4 meals could have used more salt, as well as other tasty ingredients. The service was lovely, and the beer was great, but sadly, the food just was not where I know it should be.

Ridiculously out of this world food. The 40’clove fries are a must ! We got the cordon clove and the cabbage rolls between three of us and had to take a portion to go ! Safe to say it tasted just as good if not better at 11 o’clock that night

  • 5/5 Donna P. 3 years ago on Google
Simple and devastatingly delicious! All my Eastern European favourites done right.

One of my favorite meals all weekend!! Cauliflower wings to start, pretty good. Perogies next, even better. But the real winner was the Poutine a la brasso! Omg I can’t even convey just how awesome it was. Would definitely eat here again, with the poutine of course. Garlic cookie was delicious too, although didn’t taste much garlic.. it was my first time here and supposedly their food used to be even stronger with the garlic. I think it’s time to turn it back up again. But def check it out!

Delicious food in a warm atmosphere. The garlic theme is really fun but never overpowering. Some really excellent fries here. Good number of vegetarian options. I hear the garlic chocolate cake is amazing, can’t wait to try it!

  • 4/5 H. Y. 4 years ago on Google
We had the poutine, paprikash, cabbage rolls and the strawberry flat bread. The poutine was a little lacking in toppings (especially the meat toppings as described in the menu) but was still tasty with a strong garlic punch. Main dishes were good, not overly seasoned, tasted like comforting home made food though the chicken was a bit weird with its processed meat like texture. The dessert was so yummy, couldn't stop eating it!

Probably the best meal we've had since leaving Vancouver (Vancouver-Kamloops-Revelstoke-Golden-Cranbrook-Nelson-Osoyoos). Loved the snitzhel and my daughter said "she will come back to Nelson for the kayaking and the spaetzle"!

We went here because our usual spot was full. By accident we stumbled upon this restaurant. We sat outside on the patio and had great servers taking care of us. The food was amazing. Couldn't have asked for anything else.

My family (including our five year old twins) had the pleasure of eating at Outer Clove this weekend. The staff was attentive but the food? Outstanding! Everything is homemade and presented beautifully. Both my husband and I, with our very different preferences, were totally satisfied as were our kids. Do not overlook this spot in Nelson!
