We were in Nelson in the first week of October on personal business. We had been on the road for a couple of days and were tired of drive-thru/take-out food so asked the Realtor we were dealing with if he knew of any Indian restaurants he could recommend - Tandoori Grill & Lounge was what he suggested (only a couple of blocks from his offices). We were not steered wrong... the food here was fantastic, the kitchen staff obviously have a very deft hand at the spicing and we were presented with a truly delicious meal (rice, Nan, Korma prawns and chicken Rogan Josh). The service was both attentive and sincerely friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend Tandoori (G&L) to anyone. I was glad we had doubled our Nan order as we were able to use it to scour out the last of the sauces from the dishes they were served in and able to enjoy every last mouthful. My only regret is that we opted for "medium" from the four choices of heat level [mild, medium, hot & "Indian hot"]... I think perhaps we should have pushed that up a notch and asked for "hot". Nonetheless the flavours were all there and expertly combined. Also it was helpful that since the restaurant does not face Baker St. directly that they hand sandwich boards on the street directing us to the side entrance. Warm and welcoming scents greeted us as we took the stairs down to the comfortable dining area. Two thumbs up.

Absolutely amazing food! Kindest waitress I've seen in years!! Some of the absolute best Indian food I've ever had. I especially recommend the samosas, as they are very fluffy and not too heavy on the stomach. The sauces were wonderful for them, too. We also ordered butter chicken and tandoori prawn, and both were wonderful; I made note of the fact that the butter chicken was also extremely creamy (Bonus points that add to the flavour; in my opinion!) All the food here is very palletable. I have been here multiple times and can confirm that it is definitely an extremely memorable restaurant. Amazing service. Though the wait time can be a bit long; it is absolutely worth it! The tea there is so flavourful I was salivating just by the smell, which is a lot coming from a tea lover! When ordering the food, they ask for heat level, and you definitely don't have to worry about being sensitive to spice when ordering mild; I even wished I had ordered spicier! If you want a good experience with Indian food, you should definitely go here! Very genuine, fragrant, delicious food. I do feel the need to highlight the point that the staff was extremely kind here; adding to the experience with a genuine smile and kind words. Would 100% recommend it to anyone with a cultured and appreciative pallete.

I had the lunch special which is served between noon and 3:00p (see photos). I am a vegetarian and went with that option, which came with vegetable curry, Dal Mukhani , Chana Marsala, rice, raita, and naan bread. The Chana masala was quite good - a unique flavour I had not tried elsewhere. The veg curry was ok. I found the dal spicy and had many undercooked lentils. The rice itself was dry and had hard clamps indicating it was likely reheated. Overall the food was ok. I would place it in the ranking of decent for a smaller town but if it is compared against the urban options it would have to step up the food quality. I’m going to give it a 4-star rural rating. My server, Manish, was pleasant and cordial. He was attentive. The atmosphere was nice and the music was not overbearing. The carpets could use a vacuum and the space a deep clean, and a bit of decluttering. With a little effort this could be a very nice space. I think the price for the lunch special should come down a few bucks but these are the times we are in.

A friendly service and tasty food! The server was kind and respectful, so we had a delightful time. Food tastes really good, portions were decent as well. I dropped a star, just because I had a bit better Indian food in other places in BC and AB so there is an area of improvement 😉

I use to eat hear all the time and crave it, my last few meals from hear have bean shockingly disappointing. Rice tasted very old or like it was frozen then re heated in a microwave, samosa tasted like it was microwaved dident have the normal crunch, the butter chicken portion is getting smaller and smaller I litterly had 5 small pieces of chicken. It was so expensive and disappointing, feels like the kitchen staff don't care anymore.

All around good experience! Me, my mom and sister all ate one of our favorite dishes (butter chicken) and packed some away for our dad. Gave me amazing nostalgia and great memories. The waitress was really kind to us and we couldn't stop smiling around her. I stuffed myself to the point my stomach hurt but it was totally worth it (and delicious)! We all had some of the best tea in the world and some delicious dessert choices (rice pudding and some sort of doughnut thing that was really good too!). If your wanting a good first experience on Indian food, this is the place to go!

I'm picky when it comes to Indian food and this place is great. I got veggie samosa, butter chicken, garlic nan, and rice. I find most food in Canada is a bit on the bland side, but my butter chicken was packed with flavor/spices. I ordered the hotest "Indian hot" spice level and it was delicious. Maybe more like medium hot compared to what I'm used to, but it was freakin' tasty and I would 100% get it again. The garlic nan was buttery and fresh, with a nice crispy underside that wasn't burn. Service was good.

Went there for the first time tonight with my partner. I usually order butter chicken at Indian restaurants, but I wanted to try something different. We ordered the calamari, kashmiri korma (DEFINITELY RECOMMEND), rice and garlic naan. Everything was absolutely delicious! The presentation was beautiful, the portion size was good, the service was great! The price point was pretty decent for the amount and quality of the food and we had left overs. I have a new favourite spot to eat!

Tandoori grill is one of our faves. We always have a delicious meal when we eat here. Our son LOVES all of their dishes and regularly asks us to order from them. The dining room could use a bit of a facelift but don't let that discourage you from trying this place out. The staff are always very nice whether we are ordering to go or dining in.

The place was quiet at the time away from hustle and bustle of Baker street. The space was nice comfortable and it felt like an authentic and casual experience. Server was friendly and did a good job. I had the traditional lamb curry and it was very tasty. Asked for medium spice and thats exactly what it was perfect spice amount for in the middle. I would definitely eat here again.

Awesome Indian in Nelson! Naan bread was on point, light and crispy and seasoned. Vindaloo and Bombay chicken tikka masala also flavourful and well portioned. Will definitely be back!

Unfortunately I don’t have bring food to say about this place. The restaurant smelled foul and the furnitures were old, peeling and cracking. The carpet was covered in the layer of dirt. The place was empty when we walked in. We thought this is the wall on the hole kind of place after looking at > 4 review. Our experience was far from that. Palek paneer had too much spices and so did the other food items. We couldn’t savor any food item due to the amount of spices in the food. Naan was alrighty but too pricey. If you are looking for Indian restaurant, Tamil restaurant seemed to be the better option. We passed by it and the place looked cleaner and busier.

It was worth finding the side street where this restaurant is! We enjoyed a generous portion of delicious palak paneer at just the right spice, a perfect garlic naan, freshly made raita, and amazing tamarind margaritas. The service was just as excellent, and we enjoyed sitting outside. We will definitely make this our go to Indian restaurant in Nelson.

Delicious! I got the vegetable korma and my boyfriend got the butter chicken. We also had the basmati rice and nan. Both dishes were so flavourful, saucy, and absolutely delicious. The nan bread was so fresh! Perfect for dipping. True, authentic Indian cuisine. Super friendly staff too! Definitely recommend.

Service - 0/10 They takes about an hour to make 4 pcs of Aloo Paratha and when you eat that paratha you can easily feel that this is pre made paratha. Food Quality - 1/10 If anyone wants to start hating biryani, try it from here. The worst Biryani we ever ate in our whole life, even International student can cook much better food than this restaurant. In every bite of Aloo paratha you can find a tons of whole dhaniya. Best place for the food from this restaurant is DUSTBIN only. Like literally anyone will regret after having food from this restaurant.

Went out with family for a holiday meal. The food was great, I especially loved their fish pakoras. The serving sizes are larger than some of the other places in town so we went home full.

Stopped in for the lunch special and left thoroughly satisfied! Both the curry and butter chicken were to die for, along with the sides too. Everything was full of flavour. Portion size was perfectly adequate, didn’t leave too full lol. The place itself was clean and our waiter was friendly and took good care of us. Would eat here again.

Ordered a large quantity of food for a dinner party. Food was ready within a reasonable amount of time (40 mins) and was delicious. The garlic naan is amazing. Butter chicken and vegetable korma were the favourites. The vegetable pakora is also great. Favourite Indian food in Nelson.
