The Gurkha Memorial Museum's main theme has to do with the history behind the military efforts in Nepal. The Nepal Gurkha soldiers are part of the British Military for many years and it has been reported that the Gurkha soldiers are some of the fiercest fighters in battle. The museum has a collection of all sorts of historic Military items - guns, rifles, uniforms, the famous Gurka knives and many photographs of places where the Gurkha soldiers had served. Quite interesting history of this military force from the past to the present day. Better to die than be a coward, is the Gurkha motto. Their history attains to that. Long may they have the welfare and care of those who respect them. This museum is not the most attractive but has an absolute wealth of information and artefacts which would make it an essential visit for anyone with even the slightest interest in Nepali, British, Indian or general military history. Spread in 3 floors, this museum showcases the history of gurkha regiment. Their uniforms, medals, weapons and all communication instruments used by them during history.

However, Photos outside the Museum building is OK.

A great museum that captures the great history of the Gurkhas. Lots of interesting facts and exhibits. You don’t have to be a military buff the enjoy. No pictures allowed inside and higher rate for foreigners (which is typical almost everywhere in Nepal).

Museum with interactive multimedia exhibits dedicated to the history of Nepal's Gurkha soldiers. The price of the ticket depends on your nationality. The price of a ticket for a non-Nepali is Rs. 200 and for a SAARC member, it is Rs. 100. Indomitable Spirit: Gurkhas are known for their unwavering bravery, loyalty, and resilience. They have a strong sense of honor, duty, and professionalism. They are willing to fight against overwhelming odds and are renowned for their ability to hold their ground, even in the face of adversity. In 1994, a Gurkha Museum was established at a temporary site in Kathmandu; it moved to Pokhara in 2005 and has become one of the main attractions of the area. Where do the Gurkhas come from? Gurkhas are traditionally recruited from the hill people of Nepal, who trace their roots right back to an 8th century Hindu warrior, Guru Gorakhnath. They first encountered the British in 1814, when the British East India Company fought against them during the Anglo-Nepalese War. Ram Shah The palace with historic, archaeological and religious importance was built by Ram Shah, well known for his judicial reforms, in 1666 BS. The reconstruction work has been halted for the past one week owing to the shortage of timber. “Some 150 cubic feet timber and 32 wooden pillars are immediately needed. Historically, the terms "Gurkha" and "Gorkhali" were synonymous with "Nepali", which originates from the hill principality Gorkha Kingdom, from which the Kingdom of Nepal expanded under Prithvi Narayan Shah.

Incredible Museum!! It highlights the Gurkha regiments involvement in various conflicts throughout the world across time!! Pleasant background music, well curated rooms, informative placards, free YouTube tour of the gallery. (scan the QR beside items; the video is a slow walkthrough though) and memorable souvenirs are nicely displayed.

Wow! The gorkhas are so brave. Disappointing to know how they were used by British in almost every war they fought, with India, with Japan and etc etc. I thank the good Lord for having not born in a period where kingdoms especially the British were power hungry and destroyed many countries. Last month, I was in Europe, where I could see the devastating effects of ruthless leaders and world wars in Germany, Austria, France and Italy vividly than the rest. Nepal being the 20th country to visit, yet again I hear the ill-effects of British greed to rule the world. Gorkhas were used by British East India company, against Indians to suppress mutinies. It's so depressing to see how sister ethnicities were used against one another, a trademark of British' 'Divide and conquer' strategy. These times remind us to be grateful for current times in a way. As someone who has both Indian heritage and a little bit of British heritage on my mother's side , I was conflicted in seeing these. Human greed, wrath and pride are extremely dangerous!

Wow. I grew up with the Gurkha’s guarding the British embassy. They were so nice, polite and reserved but one knew they were not to be trifled with. Serious and honourable. What a privilege and honour to come and learn their history. Spent a good hour going through the three floors of the museum. Loving every moment learning about them and developing even greater respect for these amazing soldiers. If you come to Pokhara this is a must!!

I loved this museum, as an ex British Forces person the information in the museum was fascinating and the museum is 3 miles from the city in a more traditional area with many cafes and shops.

Very interesting history of Gorkha regiments with photos, memorabilia and narratives. More details of Gorkhas in British army. Very less information of their regiments in Indian Army post 1947.

This museum tells the history of the Gorkha army. The British government included units of Gorkha fighters in every war they fought. These men were brave and fierce fighters who would never give up. Their courage in battle is astounding.

Visiting this museum was a highlight of our trip to Nepal. It was humbling to read about the incredible bravery of individuals. We all wished that these stories could be compiled into a book, even in leaflet form, as there simply wasn't enough time to read then all. It helped me to understand their history and to appreciate their outstanding service. The Gurkhas are a breed apart. Respect.

Incredible experience! Hidden gem in Pokhara for tourism! A must see place to visit if you are a global citizen. Like what Winston Churchill said on the Battle of Britain, "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" ... I would say the same for the Gurkha soldiers ... They have fought for good against evil on many battle fronts around the world with great gallantry and honour! I salute the fallen, past and present Gurkha military and police!

Gorkha Memorial museum is a tribute to the bravery of Gorkha soldiers and many unknown facts of the Gorkha regiments, their bravery and their contributions in the history of World War can be known if anyone visit here. A nice cronological display of the Gorkha bravehearts' heroics and contributions.
