Affordable and nice experience. Good for seeing Nepal history and art. 150 for foreigners, 25 for Nepali. Grounds are Currently under development, but still really nice. Mostly idols and Buddhist things, but also some military things, natural history section and really cool Lifesize dioramas of various Nepali cultural groups. A really nice few hours. Fine for family. Could spend a whole day if you read everything posted. Parking across street at military museum.

I was absolutely mesmerized by the works of art in the museum. There are different rooms which depict the architecture and lifestyle of the 18th century. There are enormous colourful canvas, amazing sculptures, exquisite silver and gold jewellery and even kings and queens´ garments. This is a must visit place in the Valley.

The museum consists of three main buildings, each with a special focus on one part of Nepalese history. The buildings are old and there is no air conditioning, which can be a bit uncomfortable in summer. Seeing the museum once is well worth it and you will learn a lot about Nepal.

This was an amazing experience. I saw so many wonderful things here and it made me realize how great Nepal's history is. There are arts and artifacts that illustrate the history of Nepal. There are three different exhibition buildings. One is for Nepal's history, another one for Buddhism, and last one for Nepal's culture and diversity. You must visit this museum. You have to buy a ticket for entry, and if you want to use camera or record videos, you have to buy additional tickets. I was in awe of all the beautiful things in the exhibition. I did not realize that I was there for more than an hour. If you like history and culture like me, you have to visit this place. Highly recommended.

The museum had few interesting sections but overall I was quite disappointed with the collections and artifact's it had. Plus the three section in three different building also didn't make any sense. Many places the description were not apt.

Nice to visit if you are nearby and have some time left, but not a very large and interesting museum. The collection is more of a kind gathered stuff that has hardly any connection. Everything from old sculptures, coins, stuffed animals, smile mirrors till worldwide dolls.

Amazing collection of historical artifacts divided into three buildings. Make sure to pay a little extra and get the permission ticket to take pictures within the museum. Such a well maintained and regulated place. All museums should have an official charge for allowing people to take picutres. The staff is wonderful and very friendly too.

Love to spend time in this really great place. A lot of historical artifacts. You will learn a lot about history of Nepal from this place. The crowd is not very big if you visit in work days so making some time to visit here even during work days is not a waste. Visited more than 5 times, the great feeling being here never gets old.

Filled with history of Nepal. Immersive and enjoyable. Outdoor is peaceful. Went for the second time this year, one older male staff in the locker room was really rude to the visitors. Should do better. Will call the visitors by clapping his hands and shouting.

I think this museum is one of the most well maintained museum in Nepal. Where you can find history of the country. The place is very clean with staffs looking after the place. The only drawback is that for every building you have to get a separate ticket for each, but that is just a small matter compare to the epic elements the museum has to offer and it's worth it.

If you are a hard core history buff, this place is for you, where you will find many age old things reminding you of how once olden Nepal was. It is a very old museum and has some historic collection of arts, culture and paintings too. However one would also witness Buddhist gallery which has all the important information pertaining to Buddhism. The complete past of Nepal is neatly wrapped in this beautiful museum.

Amazing venue, but it needs reconstructing certain buildings and preservation of some historic items. The fountain seems to be under maintenance due to water issues, which impacts the overall ambience of the area. But overall still stands out as one of the amazing museum in Kathmandu.

Wonderful place to visit if you want to know about the history, ancient archeology, culture of Nepal. There are variuous sections inside the museum. You could find wooden scluptures, bronze statues, the entire monetary section showcasing history of money in Nepal. You get fasinated and feel as if you went back in the time. Even visiting once, you could learn so many things which textbook doesn't often tell you. Chhauni museum is piece of our Nepalese history. Looking at the ancient, historical stuffs, you could get a different perspectives on how you see things. The experience is surreal. Also, there is seperate building dedicated to Lord Buddha. Nepal, being birthplace of lord Buddha, there are many historical stuffs which is directly linked up with Siddhartha Gautama (Lord Buddha). I say, it's a must visit place if you are in Kathmandu Valley.

It is situated in front of the military museum and it has a parking space in front of the military museum. The National Museum is divided into three major areas ranging from Nepal's historical artifacts, Lord Buddha artifacts, ecological, human evolution, and different tribes of Nepal artifacts. It is covered in a small area with limited equities like a washroom but no drinking areas or cafeterias are available. It has a few sitting chairs in the open space and there are lovers at the entrance. You need to pay the mobile charges too if you want to click the photo by mobile. The museum is small but equipped with good artifacts with proper information.

The buildings are beautiful. So it the park But the museum is without focus and there is a lot of things with just a tag and no explanation. The part on different ethnic groups are super cool, but for a national museum there lacks focus on nepal as a nation

This is a very important place for visitors who'd like to know more about the history of Nepal and this museum has many artifacts from the medieval and modern nepal along with some ancient artifacts dating back to the time of Shakyamuni Gautam Buddha are on display. There are seperate buildings that house these artifacts and for the ease of visitors the museum has managed to develop different buildings for the arts and suclpture, weapons and ancient tools and the Buddha's hometown artifacts. These buildings were earlier built by the Rana prime ministers of Nepal about a 100 years ago and the combination of nepalese architecture mixed with neo-classical architecture can be seen. There's a big garden for visitors to refresh afterwards so anyone can seat underneath a tree or on a bench and relax after enjoying the views of these old and valuable artifacts.. However in my personal experience after the 2015 April earthquake a section of these display remains closed due to the damage incurred on the second floor of that building and its a bit sad experience for visitors to not be able to have a glimpse of that particular section which had amazing things on display. We can only hope that the government of Nepal escalates the effort to fully restore that particular section so the visitors don't get disappointed. It is a must visit museum in Kathmandu if you wish to learn a few things about the glorious past of this country and very easily accessible from any part of kathmandu..

Visiting the National Museum in Chhauni, Kathmandu, was an enriching experience that surpassed all my expectations. Stepping through its doors felt like embarking on a captivating journey through Nepal's rich history and diverse culture, leaving me with a profound appreciation for the nation's heritage. From the moment I entered, the museum's architecture and surroundings exuded a sense of grandeur and reverence. The well-maintained gardens and traditional architectural elements set the stage for the cultural treasures that awaited within. The exhibits were a true reflection of the museum's commitment to preserving and showcasing Nepal's cultural heritage. Each gallery was thoughtfully curated, featuring an impressive array of artifacts, sculptures, paintings, and historical documents. I was thrilled to witness centuries-old artifacts that shed light on Nepal's fascinating past and the evolution of its civilization. What truly stood out was the attention to detail in the presentation of exhibits. The descriptions and information panels accompanying each display were informative and engaging, providing valuable insights into the significance and context of the artifacts. As a history enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the stories and anecdotes shared throughout the museum. The museum's knowledgeable and courteous staff further enhanced the experience. They were readily available to answer questions and eager to share their knowledge about the exhibits, fostering a deeper understanding of Nepal's cultural legacy. One of the highlights of my visit was the section dedicated to the various ethnic groups of Nepal. The museum's efforts to celebrate diversity and inclusivity were commendable, as they beautifully showcased the unique customs, traditions, and artistic expressions of different communities. The National Museum also impressed me with its use of technology to augment the visitor's experience. Interactive displays, multimedia presentations, and audio guides offered an immersive and educational journey, especially for younger visitors. The museum's commitment to preserving and restoring artifacts was evident in the conservation laboratory, where experts worked diligently to safeguard Nepal's cultural treasures for future generations. Furthermore, the National Museum's location in Chhauni, Kathmandu, provides a tranquil setting away from the bustling city, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the cultural experience. In conclusion, my visit to the National Museum in Chhauni, Kathmandu, was a truly memorable and enlightening experience. It left me with a deeper connection to Nepal's vibrant past and a profound appreciation for its rich cultural heritage. I highly recommend this museum to both locals and tourists seeking to explore the heart and soul of Nepal's history.

This is the largest museum in Nepal. It has located in Chhauni. This has very kind of historical arms, coin, clothes, statue, book and many more. The last earthquake had destroyed it very badly. Only two block is open for tourist and one block is closed now. The closed section had coin. So if you go there you are not able to see old coins.

The tickets are also very cheap and the place is also very beautiful both in historical and natural manner. For the visitors the monument serves to relive the battles fought on the grounds of Nepal. The main attractions are collection of historical artworks (sculpture and paintings) and a historical display of weapons used in the wars in the 18-19th century. The museum has separate galleries dedicated to statues, paintings, murals, coins and weapons. It has three buildings — Juddha Jayatia Khate Sala, Buddha Art Gallery and the main building which consists of natural historical section (collection of species of animals, butterflies and plants), cultural section and stamp section.
