It was a good first monsoon trek. On average it should take 35-40 minutes to reach the main entrance of the fort and another 45-60 minutes to reach the fort top. It took 2 hrs for us from starting point to the top. We went taking pictures and taking small breaks. Carry plenty amount of water with you. Early you go better for you if you want some space. crowd increases after 11 am. if you going from Mumbai Get off at the Neral railway station. Board to taxi from outside the railway station. Ask the driver to drop at 134 route Peb fort is near there. Another way to reach peb fort is via Aman lodge station in the opposite direction to Matheran railway station you don't have to buy tickets the way go through the car parking you can ask there anyone can tell you the way ( second left from car parking) from here you can see the toy train root it start with 178 route. From both the ways you have to follow the toy train route until you reach the 156 route and there is the fort. If you want to see the kadyavarcha Ganapati it's on the way when you start from the 178 route i.e from opposite Aman lodge station. You can also see Ganapati if you went from 134 only you have to walk a little more. At 159 route you will see the entrance with a board saying -> peb fort There are some steep points which are not that easy if you are a super beginner but are manageable. Otherwise, the trek is easy. After the ladders on the top, there is a platue where you can see the scenery of other mountains. And again after some trekking, you can see the temple. The views are awesome from there. It's June starting so we didn't get the rain on 25th June. But you can try your luck. Do not start trek from Fanaswadi base point. It is more difficult. We came to know about this when we asked people coming from Fanaswadi base point. It's upto you. From the top, views were mesmerizing 🤩 . You can see the rain from other parts of the area which was amazing.😍 Have a wonderful trekking experience. Hope it is helpful. 😉

Vikatgad Peb Fort is located on the Matheran Hill Range, about 2,100 feet above sea level. It is a popular trekking spot for those seeking an adventurous trail. It is continuous to other forts of the Matheran Hill Range along with Malang Gad, Tauli Hill, and Chanderi Fort. Being close to the major cities of Pune and Mumbai, with a well-connected railway system, attracts trekkers from both the cities, mostly on weekends. Not much is known about the fort, and most of it is in ruins due to a supposed battle that took place in the 19th century. However, it was a storage for food grains and ammunition and was also visited by the British Captain Dickinson in 1818. The two entrances to the fort are in ruins. There are still traces of the idols of Lord Hanuman within its periphery. The approximate time required to visit all the palaces in the fort is 1 hour. What Not To Miss Places to visit nearby There are several picturesque places to visit in the Raigad district apart from Vikatgad Peb Fort. These are mostly trekking places, and attract tourists prominently due to the scenic views around them. Now only this, the town is closer to both Mumbai and Pune, making it a popular getaway destination. Louisa point: Louisa Point offers a picturesque panoramic view of the historic Vishalgad and Prabalgad Forts. During monsoon, one can see waterfalls running down the hills with mesmerizing beauty. Sunsets and sunrises are astounding from this point. Panorama point: With a little bit of trekking, one can reach the top of Panorama Point, often referred to as the sunrise point. Trekkers, tourists, and locals visit this place at the break of day to start their sightseeing, and they are not disappointed. Porcupine point: From the Porcupine Point, one can see the historic Prabalgad Fort in all its majesty. This is yet another popular sunrise/sunset destination.

I did solo trek/hike here. It was my first experience doing it solo and it was best. The route from toy train track was clean also there 2 waterfalls with fresh water. There proper sign till 80% of route but after that it was bit tricky I lost the simple route and had to climb from more dangerous route but it was experience. Place is quite and calm if you go there on weekdays. I ll just carry water extra water bottle with you. Just climb slowly on metal stairs as they as old and rusty and not that well maintained.

Trekking near Mumbai to Peb Fort or Vikatgad around four km from Neral Railway Station. Peb Fort is a delightful trek in the Monsoon season. Also known as the Vikatgad Trek, the hike passes through a local village and many waterfalls. The Trek near the Foothills of Matheran's offers all that a trekker can ask for climbing ladders, navigating rock patches, ancient caves, dense forest, ridge walking, pleasant weather. Peb Fort Trek can be combined with a Matheran visit, or you can trek till Panorama point Matheran. Excellent for new trekkers, a village guide or guided tour will make the Trek more enjoyable. It is assumed that this fort derived its name Peb from the 'Goddess Pebi' at the base of the fort. Historical references indicate that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used the caves on the fort as silos for grain storage. The cave on the fort is occupied by disciples of Swami Samarth, a great saint. They have contributed a lot to the development of this fort for the last ten years. They have managed successfully to keep the cave and the fort clean and maintained the dignity of the Peb fort. Near to this cave are meditation caverns, which are underground. These caverns are still in good condition. One has to crawl into these, and only one man can enter at one time. In monsoon, two of these are filled with water. On the top, we can go by climbing the fort's wall; On the top, we can see some remnants. The main attraction here is the bastion on the topmost part. Bastion faces the mountain of Matheran. Here we can see the ridge connecting the mountains of Matheran and Peb. When we stand here, we feel like to be at the top of the world. On the other side of the fort is a temple of a deity. Here is a big cistern. The disciples are constructing a good temple here. We can reside here for some time. The beautiful waterfall on the way is the main attraction here. The surrounding scenery looks marvellous from the cave in the monsoon. We also see the pinnacles of Navara-Navari, Bhatoba and Irshalgad Fort, and Chanderi Fort, Prabalgad Fort, Kalavantin Durg and Malanggad and also Nakhind Ridge. This trekking is pleasant in all seasons. How to Reach : We have to take Karjat train from Central Railways and to reach Neral station. From Neral Station we have to do the share taxi / eeco Van which cost us around 100 / pp. And other option is of Toy Train which runs from Neral - Matheran to and fro. After that we have to reach the Junction-134 on the railway track. From the point we have the trail of almost 45-50 mins. After doing the track trail the og trek start through some narrow patches. And we reach the top of fort. While returning do visit the Ganpati Idol just 5 mins away the location from the trek start. Cheers..Happy Travelling..💯❤️⚡

Peb Fort is a great place to visit if you are a good tracker and you love tracking it is a must visit place if you love tracking and if you stay in Maharashtra peb is near Matheran.I have visited this place many time and I really like the peace and the clarity of this place and whenever I reach this place my mind is full of Wonderful thoughts and I really like this place and the Beast over this place and the view is really awesome I can’t even Express the views which each time whenever I visit this place get from this place as from every angle this place is different from the other so definitely the sunrise and the sunset is awesome if you are on the right spot and the right time. Now I am talking about the accessibility when we reach to the top of the peb Fort then the accessibility which is low because the towers of the internet and the network of the same goes away but still some network give the tower and therefore somehow we can excess something or other to each other people living so away from us all we can see away from this place.Talking about the local site scene this place is totally wonderful for the trackers as well as major photographer and I love nature photography therefore I visited tourist place menu time and look amazing photos of nature as well as deep beauty of the sky and son even moon in the night there is less pollution therefore even in the night we can see the stars blinking in the sky and there are lot of waterfalls around this place which give the beauty two displays and it is really awesome to visit this place whenever we think that we need some space from the world.Peb Fort is away from the city and Matheran is not that much developed therefore there are less hotels but still there are some hotels from which you can visit peb Fort easily therefore the accessibility for the hotels and Accommodation is there near by peb fort therefore if you are boring about the accommodation then I think there is no need of worried because accommodation and hotels are there for you.Now talking about Safety comes and if you are a tracking lover than you know that tracking and spotting is not that much easy thing to do there for safety is always a key factor which have to keep in your mind and definitely it is not a safe place what is tell if you have things which can save you and when you are able to track easily and you are fit and fine then there will be no problem for you to go to the tab food and come easily there for you should be fit and fine to go for this place and I really recumbent everyone to visit place a wonderful place for peace and prosperity I really recommend to visit all of you to the Peb Fort once in your life thank you so much.

Amazing place with great and challenging trek and breathtaking views ... We started our trek from junction 134 and walked along toy train tracks till junction 158 and then followed the trail into the mountain it's amazing trail completely covered with greenery one side mountain slope and valley on other side with 1 feet wide trail ... It's challenging at places you have to push through bushes throughout and rain would absolutely increase the risk factor to unacceptable so check weather prior to the visit and do not attempt if rain is there ... Views from the top were really worth the walk ...while returning we followed the same trail and returned to jn 158 and walked towards Matheran on the toy train tracks... Overall experience was exceptional and I would visit Matheran again just for the peb fort trek again... it's that good

Good trek for beginners it's a short trek have good points to explore. Just follow the rail tracks to see Kadyavrcha ganpati and there are arrows marked where you can follow towards Peb fort. The view from the top is very good you can see many forts like Kalavantin-Prabalgad, Karnala, Shri Malanggad, Irshalgad etc. Monsoons is the best time to visit. You can also follow tracks to reach top and explore market.

One of the best and easy trek for beginners this rainy season. Follow the train tracks till almost 70-80 percent. Go in groups and atleast one experienced person to avoid difficult routes moving ahead. Weekdays are very less crowded, serene & peaceful track. Carry as much possible water and snacks. The scenery along the way is just breath taking. Wishing good times ahead. Cheers!!!!

Absolutely stunning view! Totally underrated fort. The trek is thrilling. Enjoyed a lot! The way starts from neral station from where we have to take the cab for peb fort trek. The cabs leave us at start of the trek where the. Railway tracks start. The trail starts from these railway tracks and goes along the tracks. We can enjoy eye soothing beautiful views in the way. A point comes where we meet multiple shops near a bell on the metal railing. From there we have to descend to the valley which is thrilling. The trail then goes through this valley where the view is absolutely beautiful. Next we have to climb up our way on staircases and rock cut trail while enjoying the scenic beauty of Sahyadri mountain range. At last we reach the Peb fort and also must visit temple where there's always presence of clouds is there.

All the staff and caretakers are well trained and good knowledged. They were very cooperative and ready to help. They recommend, visiting this place in monsoon.... Since they said in monsoon we may get a good opportunity to visit nearby dam, waterwall and have sight of beautiful butterflies 🦋.

A great place to be if you are a nature lover. All the plants present are of Indian origin and the instructors have in-depth knowledge of almost all the plants and it's uses. A must visit place if you wish to spend your time in the lapse of nature. There is also a dedicated butterfly garden which when visited during the end of rainy season gives you a very rich experience of visualising different types of butterflies.

This is fabulous trekking experience....we started by village tower route....and goes at top by climbing mountains..we are in group of .you must go with enough water and food because there is no any water or food source in the way from beginning of the trek...trek is quite tough...but patches are easier.. Please please carry atleast 2 liters of water per person especially when u visit in summer or winter. For beginners trek is quite difficult and one going by tower route be careful as dense forest come on the way and tricky route. Otherwise best place to enjoy.

Peb Fort / Vikatgad Fort(Marathi: पेब किल्ला / विकटगड) is a fort located 19km from Karjat, in Raigad district, of Maharashtra. This fort is in continuation with the Malang gad, Tauli Hill and Chanderi fort of the Matheran Hill Range. Vikatgad is a favourite destination for one-day trekkers. The trek path to Vikatgad is along deep ravines and cliffs. Its closeness to Matheran and Neral attracts many trekkers on weekends. The forest department and local villagers are doing plantation and some restoration works on the fort.

This is one of the beautiful spots in Maharashtra which is not so popular amongst the trekking community, there are multiple ways to reach the vikalgad peb fort. 1.you can start from panvel 2.you can reach matheran via road from karjat and you can start walking via toy train route from anand lodge(easiest way) 3. you take suburban from kalyan/thane to neral station and head to aanandwadi village (i suggest this), the trail is very beautiful if you're trekking in monsoon, very pleasant to watch the lush greenery, and a bit adventurous, villagers can show you the way from aanandwadi, then you can follow the trail, trekking usually takes 5-6 hrs if you're taking regular haults and rest, total to walk its around 9 kms

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain and matching through the storm........ Exploring yet another Fort At a distance of 3.5 km from Neral Railway Station,13 km from Matheran, 88 km from Mumbai,Peb Fort, also known as Vikatgad, is an ancient fort situated near Neral. Situated at an altitude of 2100 feet, the fort derives its name from the Goddess Pebi at the base of the fort. The fort is also named Vikatgad for its supposed shape of the Elephant Headed God, Ganesh. Historical references clearly indicate that Shivaji Maharaj used the caves on the fort to store the grains. It is one of the popular places to visit in Matheran. The fort is famous for its caves which are maintained by disciples of Swami Samartha and the meditation chambers carved out from the rock inside the mountain. To get inside the meditation chamber, one has to crawl through a narrow passage and then climb down into the meditation chamber. The chamber is very well maintained with tiles on the floor for people to sit and meditate. The fort also has a temple dedicated to Swami Samartha on the top and has the footwear or Padukas worn by the great saint kept on the top. The view of the entire Neral and Karjat region from the top is worth the climb. Another attraction of the trek is the only standing Bastion or Buruj facing the Panorama point of Matheran, the view from here is breathtaking. There is also a beautiful temple of lord Shiva and pebi Devi ..... The Vikatgad fort is situated next to Matheran Mountain. The Peb fort trek starts from Neral (3.5 km) and it takes about 2 hours to reach the fort. The path passes through water streams, rocks, grassy meadows, forests, and a ladder at the end. The trek level is moderate to difficult. Not much is known about the fort, and most of it is in ruins due to a supposed battle that took place in the 19th century which left the fort in utter ruins...... However, it was a storage for food grains and ammunition and was also visited by the British Captain Dickinson in 1818. The two entrances to the fort are in ruins. There are still traces of the idols of Lord Hanuman within its periphery.

Excellent, amazing place full of such a huge flora. Climate is too good with blowing air. U can get any information about plants and their species . It is not a huge place but in a small place it has a huge range of biodiversity. They allow students for stay and only for study or research purposes. Their staff was really too good. They told us about nearly some of species which can be used in daily life. So finally I would like to thanks the managing director and staff of Native Biodiversity for your lovely service. Thank you.

Lovely place for trekkers. Can start trekking from Anandwadi village near Neral station which is just 10 minutes away. Trek route is long and needs high endurance. Trek can also be started from Neral Matheran ghat route. There are lots of things to see line temple on top, ashram, ruins of fort, mountain crossing, meter gauge railway track and train Kadyavarcha Ganapathy, etc.

It's really good trek in low budget (approximately 300 rs per person). Google map will lead you to the exact place of starting point of the trek as well as villagers are also very helpful. There is another relatively easy way from Matheran to reach top hill point, but those who want adventure I would recommend to go from this side. Villager near to the base offers parking as well as guide for the trek. There is no hotel near the base point, you have to go to the hotels on highway for food, snacks and water. We parked our bikes in the forest at starting point of trek. There are so many confusing paths while trekking but arrows are mention at many places to guide the track. In approximately 5 hours we reach at the top hill Mahadev temple. It is moderate trek and at difficult points ropes and ladders are places to help you climb. Be safe from monkeys. Also there is cave at uphill where 10 people can stay at night. Bring lots of water and food if you are planning to stay at night. There is water reservoir at top hill next to the cave where you can refill the water. If you don't have plan of staying at night then make sure to start your return by 4. We have started our return journey by 5, so one forth of the track we climb down in the dark using mobile flashlights which was thrilling but could be dangerous as there were possibilities of wild animals. It took us 3 hours to climb down and find our bikes in the dark forest. Overall nice experience for one day trek. Highly recommended!

If you are going via Satyachi wadi the climbing trek is average but tough while decend. Also advisable to carry ample water.Awsum trekking experience with natural beauty, river and birds. If visiting first time prefer to hire local guide.

It is a one of the best trekking point near mumbai, just next to matheran. We went there in rainy season, what an experience we had, i have no words to explain. It is little risky to reach the place. Weak hearted people should avoid it. If anyone have a phobia of height should avoid it (trekking is not for weak hearted people at all). If you want to visit this place go to Neral ask six sitter's to take you to the vikatgad way, he will drop you near ganpati mandir. From their you have to walk your path. We went by mini train track. We walked almost 3 hours. But the experience was awesome. Nature, waterfalls, mountain peek, valley, awesome unforgettable moment we had there. You should visit atleast once in a life.

Nice place if you take the toy train track route. Do not take the village route no matter anyone says. Ask for route 134 at station and take a car not a Rick.

Its a medium level of treking. You can enjoy the waterfall and mountain. Beware of monkeys. Rainy season is beast to enjoy. Other season will be humid.

Peb Fort / Vikatgad Fortis a fort located 19km from Karjat, in Raigad district, of Maharashtra. Very less history about this fort is available. It was named after the goddess Pebi Devi, has store rooms for storing food grains and ammunition, and was visited by Captain Dickinson in 1818. This fort can be reached from Panvel and Neral towns. The nearest town is Matheran which is 8km from Neral. The Neral is well connected by rail and road. It is a busy station on the Mumbai-Pune railway line. There are good hotels in Matheran and Neral. Tea and snacks are also available in small hotels on the way to Matheran. There are many routes to reach the fort. The easiest is to reach Matheran by bus/car/train and start walking along the railway track. The route is very narrow. There are few trees on the trekking route. It takes about an hour to reach the entrance stairs of the fort. The night stay on the fort can be made in the Datta temple on the fort. The other path is from the Kadya Ganpati idol. A scary walk along the lonely path is followed to reach the col on the north, then follow the trek path on the other side of the hill to reach the Peb fort. The other two routes are very difficult. The path becomes slippery during monsoon and may lead to  These trek routes start from the base village Mamadapur and Fanaswadi. It requires three hours to reach the fort from the base villages. A path which leads to the col on the north of the fort is to be approached with high endurance. The trek path along the electric towers leads to the col. After reaching the col, the path over the southern narrow ridge should be followed to reach the Vikatgad fort scarp. There are three five-foot high rock patches to be negotiated to reach the entrance gate. The path moves along the western side of the scarp. A nice cave temple is on the way. There is water available in the rock-cut cisterns. There are some narrow caves dug along the scarp. The caves are very narrow so that only one person can enter inside at a time. One of the cave is 20-30 feet long with a small iron ladder to climb down. It is very humid and dark in the cave. This fort can be visited in all seasons, however, it is very windy and cloudy in the rainy season.

Well, we took an alternate route to reach this destination and it was terrific. The route starts from fanaswadi village base and you will have to follow the transmission lines. Overall, the experience was terrific!

You should go there from the backside of the temple, you will get to see some amazing scenery and also Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue and also a cave. You can enjoy eating hot Maggie if you get there from the backside at that cave and also you will also get to see the waterfall. I will recommend you to go there with your friends and highly recommend you to go from the backside of that fort. That will be your best experience of trek you ever had.

If your want a short trek i world suggest you reach matheran and start the trek. It would take you 1hr max on the toy train track, but you don't get to see Shivaji maharaja idols and going to see them would be difficult. Its possible if you take a longer route with small water falls and through the forests. Please carry a good pair of shoes as its slipper

About Vikatgad Peb fort trek, such a thrilling and mesmerizing experience. Started from Pune to Neral early morning. Reached the Peb fort starting point at around 7 am. Easy walk to the start of trek adjacent to beautiful toy train track. Then starts the real adventure. Narrow pathways cut through the edge of mountain, with beautiful waterfalls and some tough patches that takes you to the staircase to the top of mountain. At the top, enjoy panaromic view of the Sahyadri and also a small Datta Mandir that adds up to it's beauty. Disclaimer: Some patches are really tough. Please wear good grip shoes and walking stick if needed.

Recommended place for every trekker and explorer. some patched are hard to climb but it will trill you. Monsoon is the best time to visit over here
