The castle location and the view from the castle is gorgeous and I would give it FIVE stars, but once we bought tickets and were hoping to see some cool stuff inside and we were completely disappointed. Do not recommend spending money to see inside.... There is nothing to see besides exhibition about castle on the 5th floor and it's also in German, so if you speak German, that's fine, but I would still NOT recommend buying tickets. ***My 3 star review is about the inside of the castle.*** Just enjoy the beautiful view of surrounding area from outside the castle. Don't bother going inside.

Very modern and picturesque around the building, toilets were closed though. Nice place to start a walk through the forest around it. The roads leading to it are very new and smooth, its usually good but this day there was sleet so that made it a bit slippery. The views from it were amazing and the snow made the castle look even better. Its a nice place to visit and it's not too busy

We came here for a “quick stop” before going to Hohe Loog Haus with our kids ages 1,3,5. Even from the nearest parking spot on the road, it was still a 5-10 minute walk going at my 5yos pace, and we were quite lucky to get a spot thy close as there were tons of cars parked along the schlossstrasse on this Saturday afternoon. I had read reviews saying it’s not worth it going inside, so we didn’t buy tickets, but interestingly enough you can access inside even without buying tickets, though you can’t access the exhibits in some of the rooms without. The views alone made the stop worth it, and there is plenty to see on the exterior of the castle with signage in German and English. A truly beautiful castle. I think if we had left more time we would have bought tickets since a family ticket is only €12 and the exhibit did look interesting from the outside of that level when we took the elevator up. The wall is stroller friendly until you get to the stairs at the end, and only partially shaded. We did not eat at the castle restaurant but it looked great, as did the restaurant near the parking road.

It is a historic location and had played a pivotal role in Germany's way to freedom of speech and printed media. The castle itself is heavily renovated since it was destroyed by the French. There's an audio guided exhibit at the top of the castle and a relatively pricey restaurant. You get fairly good views of the valley below. Frankly, not much else.

Great hike up here. Great exhibition and awesome guided walk. Unfortunately the permanent exhibition was closed to be remade. When visiting this cradle of German democracy you can not only learn about history but also get a wonderful view along the Weinstraße and across the Rhein Valley as well as over towards the Pfälzer Wald. Fantastic.

Visited here several times. It’s been my special spot with lots of memories. Today at the gift shop & ticket counter I asked there is no English info how to pay. Because I didn’t know that they don’t accept cards. The employee said “Here is Germany!” while glaring at me. Is this the level of communication for receiving international guests?

Small, but beautiful museum inside. Outside still shows signs of the old buildings that have been destroyed over time, the outlines have signs telling the story of the castle. The overview of the surrounding country and hug its vineyards is amazing and breathtaking.

It is nice historic place. As a tourist I can know a part of German history in this castle. However, the English subtitle in museum doesnt work very well. They skip many but German is ok.

Nice place to go. Great nature, the castle is renovated but still with the old touch

Historically important site for the development of German democracy, thematically it is one that will interest history buffs, as castles go it isn't as impressive as others, one isn't given access to the top of the castle so the best views, quite beautiful, are outside the castle. The interior isn't very interesting, the exhibition at the top floor is complemented by an audio guide in several languages, otherwise the basic exhibits are in German only. The castle is accessed by two different paths, one fully paved and one through the surrounding forest, the latter is a bit more challenging but one can't beat to walk through the freshness of the forest. There's a little shop with produce from the region worth a visit.

The historical space is well organized in a modern way. Thought it was worth a visit.

No rate can be applied. The place is very beautiful and deserve 5 stars. But there is a tickets to the castle. I was stupid to buy. The tickets are only for small museum inside. If you are not fond of history - no need to buy it. And exactly this brought us down, because for whole family it wasn't worth. But if you suppose to buy a ticket: ask before buy - what is included, AND very important - ask if exactly right now area is not closed because of wedding or any other event. They will not tell you about that, but part of territory will be closed for visitors. SUMMARY: I recommend place to visit. But think twice before you would buy a ticket.

Amazing place in German history and a beautiful hike to get there. Unfortunately, the museum inside the castle, while well curated, is only in German. As a European Heritage Site, they should have had more languages, including English.

Beautiful castle, unique design. It is beautiful to hike there. Do not recommend the exhibition.

Ticket cost: €6,50 for adults. €3 for students. It is worth a visit if you are interested in visiting museums. The original German flag is in this museum but you are prohibited from taking a picture.

Was very short museum but wonderful history.

Great view, but too long to read in the exhibition. Like 20 years ago. Nice restaurant in good style and with most promising menu of the area. Too bad it was after breakfast. Tour days Fri-Sun. Not sure if that's really needed. Democracy still rocks. This should be mandatory for some countries taking a wrong turn. *cough* large western countries.

Great looking castle, but was hoping to see more of it. We paid to get entry into the castle, but all this gets you is an exhibition on the 5th floor. The exhibition is nice and regarding the history of Germany, but it's all in German and only 2 rooms. Better to just admire the castle from outside and have a nice walk in the hills surrounding it.

A place with impressive historical relevance. It was the venue of massive meetings and demonstrations, part of the ripple effect of the revolutions in France during the 1830s. Considered the birthplace of the German flag, this castle is easily explored in only a couple of hours. The view of the vineyards along the valley encircling the hill is absolutely awe-inspiring.

Great views but compared to other castles around, not the greatest immersive experience. If you go, just enjoy the views and outside. They do not have English translation on any interior exhibits which is only on the top floor (5).

Very educational experience. Lovely hike to the top.

Very very disappointed. Why would you pay for audio guide when you see only one room. The coolest part from visiting this castle was only getting local wine & honey, few over the city and seeing the original flag. Other then that, Germany has much better castles.

The castle looks more likely like a modern architecture but scenery and a small trek is ok for visiting such place.

Very important site for the German democracy. Nice castle from the outside with a good view, but inside is not much to see. One floor is about the history (only in German), the rest are used only for booked events

Visited the castle just after sunrise, due to the Corona restrictions it was closed, so hiked up to a nearby viewing point to capture a panoramic view of the castle. The castle was the location of the Hambacher fest where the first German flag was unveiled. Definitely a place etched in German history.

Was will man mehr?
