This Brooklyn foodie is now in love with Newark because of Cornbread Farm to Soul Restaurant. Let’s start with the mac and cheese. It was cooked to perfection. That cheese blend was so gooey and had a nice crust on top. Now on to the meats. The chicken and turkey wings were tender inside but had that nice crisp on the outside. The cornbread was buttery and sweet all at the same time. The sides were also seasoned well. My favorite out of the collard greens and cabbage was the cabbage. I’ll be going through the tunnel again soon. The staff was so personable and attentive. Love me some Kawana. Thank you Kawana for the great service.

Unfortunately my first visit at Cornbread- Newark was not a good one. The staff was fine, process of ordering was fine. The downside was the food. The chicken was not cooked. It was pink in the inside, as you can see from the photos uploaded. The Mac and cheese wasn’t that great, didn’t have much seasoning or flavor at all. The potato salad was the worst of all. The cornbread and collard greens were tasty though. I wish I could’ve gotten a refund at least for the uncooked chicken but I don’t live in Newark and I ordered in the store.

Flew in town for a quick layover… I’m from Atlanta & was looking for some good soul food. Since this Place was so close to the airport I decided to stop for a quick bite. BEST DECISION!!! Good was seasoned well, fresh & hot. I will definitely be stopping by again when in town. Thanks to Kawana & Keba for serving us & greeting us with such great food!

The food was incredible. The collard greens were out of this world and they are vegetarian! So full of flavour. Every thing we ordered was hot and tasted so fresh. We tried the fried chicken, fried catfish, and Turkey wings. All AMAZING. The customer service is on another level. Kawana and Chelsea were so helpful and kind. We felt like we were eating at family’s house. Highly recommend!

Dined here with my date before attending a show, the food was very good, wasn't sure I'd be able to eat anything as I'm on a restricted diet, I got baked chicken w/ a mix of collard greens & cabbage, it was good, could've used some type of dipping sauces. My date got the fried chicken & waffles w/ a side of baked mac & cheese, he loved it, his meal was much more flavorful then mine, I'd definitely come back to try other stuff, great lil place to eat, nice staff. Highly recommend trying it.

This place is AWESOME! I decided to go just because the name starts with the word, cornbread. The menu is very straight forward. I ordered the chicken and waffle and it was delicious. Both chicken and waffle were prepared at the moment. I did not love that not all the food is made st the moment. Reason why I ordered the chocken and waffles. I also ordered a small side of cornbread and an apple cobbler. Everything was delicious. Staff, I think the manager or the person in charge is ultra nice. I did notice he was stressed dealing with the rest of the staff not knowing their stuff but it’s not his fault. I would say it has to do with the short staff situation due to Covid-19. Location is a must.

Very welcoming! Excellent batter/ breading on every dish - catfish, whiting (fish)& chicken -- light, savory & perfect compliment to both fish; light savory, crispy & delicious for the chicken. First we've had fried food that was not heavy & did not leave that heavy feeling of regret in your stomach the rest of the day 😀 Collard greens were cooked perfectly - not though, not mushy; the cabbage was really tasty (texture similar to when you have corned beef & cabbage); Mac & cheese was good, mac cooked just right, though kids thought it could be "cheesier;" potato salad was a tasty surprise as it was made with relish - we liked it! Cornbread was moist & sugary sweet. Loved the use of trays, actual plates, mason jar glass mugs & paper straws to help reduce waste! Everyone was friendly, helpful & welcoming. THANK YOU!!!

This food spot is definitely one of the best places my man and I have been to in Newark. From the hospitality, to the vibe, to the food, it was overall a phenomenal experience! Kawana was especially helpful and so sweet! She took the time to really cater to us and made sure we enjoyed our time there. Will definitely be back and we’ll be recommending this spot to our friends and family.

Amazing! I absolutely loved it. It was clean and they had a gel sanitizer as soon as you came through the door. I saw the staff disinfecting the tables as people were leaving. The food is great and I think it was priced well. Great atmosphere! I loved their music selection too.

The food was delicious. Ordered the fried chicken, turkey wings, yellow rice, Mac n cheese, collard greens and potato salad, none of which disappointed. We came with a large group with young children and the restaurant was very accommodating. Great service and great food!

Chicken and waffles! Southern, tasty & recommended. Great quick lunch meal, I ordered it was delivered quick still warm. Mac and cheese tastes like our peeps made it👍.. Cornbread's fried chicken is battling for best in Newark NJ area!! Please believe me!

Our party of 3, dropped in at 11:30am, on a Sunday. We were welcomed, upon entry. We were initially concerned about finding parking, but was able to find it quickly, and nearby. We placed our orders: Baked chicken, cabbage and potato salad; Fried chicken, mac & cheese and yams; Catfish (hot, crispy and delicious), mac & cheese and potato salad; each meal comes with a delicious piece of cornbread. OMG, everything was delicious. We also had uptowns and lemonade for drinks. I was speechless when our food was brought out and couldn't stop talking about it after we finished eating. We'll be back!

Decided to try a black owned local spot while here in Jersey for work. After reading the reviews decided to go with the recommended 🐟 which was pretty good. I also had grits and yams. Not bad from a southern boy to the northern side lol not bad at all. The cornbread was good as well but I know traditionalist probably wouldn't like it since it was sweet. Tasted more like a cake than cornbread but good nevertheless.

Just try it!! I stumbled upon this restaurant waiting for a hair appointment. Food is soo freaking good. The cornbread tastes even better. Sheesh. The yams were candied to perfection. I went back a second time that same day. Ordered Ribs, Turkey wings and Mac n Cheese... All I have to say is you WONT regret it. Thank me later 😊

Soul Food was absolutely delicious!!! Trudy was very helpful. She checked up on us many times to make sure we had everything we needed and more. The Mac is very yummy and cheesy. I would definitely come back!

Went to Cornbread in Newark for a quick lunch. The reviews said that everything was exceptional. I thought it was just ok. I ordered the 2 pc grilled chicken meal with a side of cabbage. The chicken was average tasting and the cabbage , I could not finish. The only thing that’s really good is the warm corn bread. Loved it a lot!! Should have gotten more of that. The place is clean, well maintained and service was great.

As soon as you walk through the door, you’re greeted! Approaching the counter, the host will offer meal suggestions to ensure you have the best experience. The catfish, so crispy and flavorful… the Mac is always exceptional. Just enough cheese, just enough seasoning, just enough bake! The collards…. My jam, so good and love the turkey meat too. Family of four, $70-$90 with food, drinks and dessert. This was an amazing dining experience. The food was so delicious and savory! We got the staples which are collard greens, macaroni, and cheese and fried chicken with peach pie. The chicken was grilled then fried after it had been marinated that much I could tell the peach pie was made with fresh peaches, the collard greens were to die for and the cornbread was just unbelievable. The soul food restaurant was very very good and reasonably priced. For a family of four with dessert we had very hearty meals!. I will definitely stop by this restaurant again anytime I am in this area.

Fresh food. Like a lot of soul good spots the sides are the stars here. Loved the mac and cheese, yams and potato salad. The corn bread was also delicious and warm not too soft and not too firm. Fountain soda machine was not working only had 1 or 2 options working. I wish they would have told me that before buying a fountain soda. Catfish po boy was good but needed some more sauce imo.

Chile, this restaurant is the bees-knees!!!! Everything we had was on point and worth every penny!!! My husband had the turkey wings. They were tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Like lip-smacking!!! I am a catfish-aholic. Their catfish is easily in my top 3 for best catfish this side of the Husdon River. I am a self-proclaimed mac-n- cheese connoisseur. So definitely get the Mac with your order. They didn't have black eyed peas when we went. So I'll be coming back for the peas. Only negative I have is they were skimpy on the gravy. Lay it on me next time!!!! 😏 Long review short. Go pig out!!!! You want be disappointed.

We went there seeing the five star rating but probably ours was a one off (disappointing) experience. They had too many online orders and service was slow. Food came out cold after 25min .. our server stopped midway and gave away condiments from my plate to give to someone else. Took my plate back to refill and brought it back to me. Had to go and ask them for rest of the food that we paid for. Got billed for an extra drink , table was not clean and got spotty tumblers for drinks. My extra star is for the food, the catfish was good ..

The service was great and very accommodating to our large order of 5 people each with their own meals and preferences. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area. Kawana and Shakira gave us great service.

I don’t usually leave reviews but this time I just had to. Customer service was immaculate. Service was quick and efficient and on point. Food was fresh and soooooooooo delicious. I had fried chicken with Mac and Cheese with collard greens and a citrus drink. As soon as bit into my thigh was thought Ohhhhh baby this is just my type of place. Place was nice and clean and the music was a vibe as well. My family and I will definitely be coming back!

This was my mom and I first time dining here and I can speak for both of us when I say we were VERY impressed and will be coming back the next time we’re in town. The food, the service, the cleanliness, the presentation of food, the overall atmosphere was absolutely fantastic! Kawana & Kirah were so great and attentive to us first timers & made sure to check on us multiple times even when the place got busy. Their dedication to ensuring that every customer has a great experience speaks volumes. Will for sure recommend Cornbread Soul to any & everyone!!

First time at Cornbread and had a great experience ! Kawana assisted us with recommendations and her patience and outstanding service made the experience THAT much better. Food was great, music was good and the aroma walking in, confirmed our choice for dinner tonight was on point! Definitely would recommend if you are in the area!

I actually enjoyed the food. The chicken and waffles were on point. The fried chicken breast had so much flavor. I will definitely be going back when I'm in the Newark area. People definitely hang out inside when they aren't eating, so if you aren't used to that, then just know it happens. Panhandling in front of the business can be an issue at night time.

We don’t live here in Newark and wanted amazing soul food. We found Cornbread Farm to Soul in Newark and we were blown away! We walked in moments after they opened and they were already busy. The staff was patient with us as we ordered and gave suggestions. Our food came fast and we were left full and happy! I got catfish and my husband got fried chicken. Both were seasoned perfectly. The Mac n Cheese was the best I’ve had in a while. I recommend this place hands down!

This was my first time visiting Cornbread restaurant in Newark. The first thing I noticed is that I really didn't smell the aroma of Southern cooking. The food was served in a cafeteria style, with the fish being cooked upon request. I ordered the catfish and yams, we also ordered whiting and cabbage. The best part of the meal was the cornbread, the fish was okay, could have been fried a little more and the yams and cabbage didn't have much seasoning. The one thing that I was excited to find in New Jersey was sweet tea it was good.

The food did not take long to prepare furthermore the catfish I would give a 6 out of 10 the baked Mac and collard greens were both amazing. The servers were nice. Two people walked in asking for change (money) besides that the experience was cool.

Hands down the best chicken I’ve tried anywhere. I got the baked and it was so juicy and flavorful! Everything was good. Hubby had the chicken and waffles and enjoyed that as well. Staff was friendly. Can’t wait to come back. Also, perfect for a quick meal before a concert at prudential.

This place is really good. The owner was really attentive the food came out really fast. I like the aura the wallpaper the surrounding. The seating was very comfortable. Second time being here always get the catfish and it’s always really good. Really close to the Prudential Center and City Hall so a nice quick one stop shop if you’re trying to patronize a black owned woman owned business that’s actually really tasty 🥰
