It's was awesome. You and your kids can enjoy there. 2-3 hours is enough. In the rail museum you can get snacks and drinks in very reasonable price. Toy and joy trains ride must try. If you want to explore virtual train ride then go for diesel simulator. Must go place with kids. 10 out of 10

This is a must visit place if you are visiting Delhi. It's one of the well maintained and affordable places. You can buy tickets online for entry ,rides and shows. It has ample parking space. We visited it on Saturday, when many schools brought kids for museums and train rides. Kids loved their outing followed by lunch time at its garden, basking in the sun . This place offers train rides - normal train ride, toy train ride and they used to offer steam train rides too(but due to lots of difficulty and risk, they stopped it for the time.) You can book a guided trip ,which gives you glimpses in old trains, which is closed with normal tickets. They also provide simulation train experience with different tickets. You can pick whatever you would like to experience with different ticket options. The train canteen is also good. We couldn't miss the good aroma of its food and had good lunch. It also has one other vendor offering snacks, tea, coffee and ice cream. The souvenir shop was also good. We bought some freeze magnets and key chains. You can also buy train models there at affordable prices.

Informative and good for toddlers and young kids. These days train rides are available in every shopping mall but this one gives a real feeling. Entry and train ride both Free for under 3 years old. ₹100 for train ride & ₹50 for museum entry. Loved it, go early to avoid rush and long queues. You can also buy train ride ticket online. Ride is 5-10 mins, 1 big round. There is a lot of historical information about the trains so good for young minds to learn about it. Opens at 10 AM There is a restaurant and a gift shop inside the premises.

It's a peaceful & super fantastic place to hang out with kids, adults & elderly. The cost of entry tickets is Rs 50 per person but on weekdays & on weekends, Sat-Sun, the rates will be double. You will love riding the Joy train, the ticket costs just 20 rupees. Rest rides like Toy ride & Steam Engine Simulator are Costly. You can book your ticket online in advance but they charge u with the CONVENIENCE FEE so better book at the window.😀

A must visit place for train lovers... This is not only about the evolution of railways but also overall transportation of India. A magical place for kids with actual toy train ride and lots of train models and many more things, both real and miniature. However, it was a little better during my visit 3-4 years back. Entry and toy train tickets can be booked online in advance to avoid rush. Food was average in the cafeteria.

Very good and unique place to bring kids with you. Here you can enjoy toy train ride and joy train ride as well. The ticket prices are very less and you can also buy combo tickets that includes entry to the museum as well as the joy ride. You've to buy separate tickets for toy train ride, which is the cutest and smallest train ride in the world. (₹100/- per person) The rail museum also provides discount for groups and school visits. There's also a steam engine train ride held every 3 days for which you've to buy separate tickets. There's no canteen inside the rail museum but you can eat different kind of street food at the gates of rail museum. There's ample parking space for all the vehicls whether it's 2 wheeler, 4 wheeler or school buses.

It’s a very different place, not only for kids but adults would like it too. You don’t have to be a train enthusiast to visit here it’s a lot more fun then a museum.. first when you enter here you have to take a ticket that’s 100 bucks for adults and they’ll give you an option for a ticket of “joy ride” and “toy ride” for 50 and 100 buck respectively.. these are the trains inside giving you a tour of the museum and pretty fun too I mean if you have kids then better take it cause they’ll go CRAZY! For it trust me.. then inside it’s written “ don’t step on the engines, prohibited 🚫 and a fine of 500 will be charged for it” but it’s not really that strict everyone were stepping on it and clicking pictures. Another interesting thing was every train engine had a QR code that you can scan and listen about the history of it.. well all this stuff might get you hungry but don’t worry!!you can walk into their cafeteria and have some snacks after all you need to regain your energy for the museum... well here comes the museum now it’s full of history and it gives you a lot about what trains were then and now read them all carefully cause at the end of museum there is a fun quiz.. well there’s another interesting thing that’s a miniature model of train and some of them are even working with a press of button.. and at the end they have small but cute water show that you might enjoy. Well in all it’s a nice place to spend a time and have a good family picnic

This place is always the first choice to go for a day picnic and chilling with family and also a good place for kids to enjoy the nature and greenery. There is a quick Train journey within the museum which is a must take as that gives a quick overview of the entire museum. It shows the heritage of Indian railway since it's inception during British era.Entry adult tickets 100 on weekends and 50 on weekdays. They are open Evey day except few public holidays in india. Opens at 10am.and entry closes by 4.30pmMarvellous park and beautiful rides for kids. Food court is available inside. Overall best experience!

I wanted to visit this place for so long and finally went there today. The collection is amazing! You will love this place if you are interested in knowing about the history of railways. Also, there is a beautiful food court inside the museum. Just book your tickets online from the website using irctc or as a guest user. The nearest metro is INA. Exit from any gate and take an auto for Rs100. Hope this helps ❤️ And the ticket price on weekdays is Rs 50 for adults and Rs 100 on weekends.

An excellent place to spend your weekend day. But again the government's apathy to maintain and take care of its treasures properly is clearly evident. The Joy ride could be made more fun and comfortable and clean. The museum is well kept but the rest of the outdoors cry for that level for cleanliness and detailing.

Must Visit One of the best places to visit in Delhi NCR Loved it. It is rail museum in true sense. A great collection . Very well maintained. A lot of photo genic frames to capture your moments . Toy train is an added attraction. One issue is accessibility: It is advisable to visit by your own vehicle as it will take a lot of time to get a cab. Price of tickets are on higher side or a bit expensive. In short just go for it..

A must visit for kids and for adults too. Even a ride of both Toy train and Joy train is worth taking. Here you'll find railway engines and bogies from very old times ( even more than centuries old). Everything about the railways is shown here. Though this museum is open till evening but it is advised to take out 5-6 hours so that one can see each and every thing present over here. Cafeteria is present over here, a souvenir shop for purchasing things worth keeping for lifetime and memories. As this museum is both indoors and outdoors therefore the area is very huge, and it looks very nice with trees, railway tracks, engines, bogies. A parking lot of present outside it.

It is good but needs improvement. Like the new rides and the food quality of the cafeteria. There is no air conditioner in the museum. No one can stay inside for more than 5-10 minutes. But it is fine for one time visit.

Because our nephew loves trains we went there. The area is nice and well maintained. The inside part is very informative and nicely prepared for kids. Outside there is a small train going around the park, which is a nice to have. Everywhere are old trains from all over the world in which you can climb yourself and check out. In the end we went to the restaurant, the food is affordable and tasty, but for people with stroller or wheelchair it is not convenient as there are too many stairs. All in all a nice experience.

A very unique experience at rhe National Rail Museum. We went on a weekend and it was full of other visitors. We had to wait for 20 minutes to get entry ticket: One for museum and other for one for joy train ride. The museum has a huge collection of old rail artifacts. Everything is maintained and clean. It is a nice family outing.

The National Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, displays exhibits on the history of rail transport in India. The museum was inaugurated on 1 February 1977, and spans over 10 acres (40,000 m²). It is open every day except Mondays and national holidays. In addition to its vast galleries, the museum features simulations of coaches, diesel, electric and steam engines. History ? The National Rail Museum was first proposed in 1962, under the advisement of rail enthusiast Michael Graham Satow. Construction began in 1970 and on 7 October 1971 the foundation stone was laid at the museum's present site in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, by the then-President of India V. V. Giri. The museum was inaugurated as the Rail Transport Museum in 1977 by Kamalapati Tripathi, the minister for public transportation. The National Rail Museum was originally intended to be a part of a larger museum that covered the history of railways, roadways, airways, and waterways in India; however, this never happened and it was officially renamed the National Rail Museum in 1995.

This is wonderful place to visit with kids.. They will enjoy a lot.. Joy train and toy train (which is not functional since few days) are biggest attraction for them..entry tickets are very minimal around 20 rs.. 🚂🚋🚃 ride might cost you more..there are plenty of engines and vintage trains are kept here for visitors.. You will get tired of clicking amazing pics with them.. Seperate museum is also there with lots of history and science behind rail..

The ticket price is 50 per person( for weekdays). There is a cafeteria also but not too options in menu. Overall a good place to spend time if you are having some embassy work.

Always it is exciting to visit any heritage museum and National Rail Museum is one such place where you can learn about the evolution of Railways in our country.... children will typically enjoy the toy train ride but personally I think the maintenance is not upto the mark seeing the condition of the coaches displayed in open area while the gathering it caters the place should be taken care of much more. I visited the place way back in 2004 and I still have fond memories of that time. Nevertheless should visit once definitely.

Highly recommended for train buffs and for a family outing. Lots of old steam locomotives on display, informative and decently well maintained museum too. The joy train goes around the campus. The cafe food and service is below average though, so don’t plan to eat there. Suggestions for improvement: The locomotives could have had more information displayed to describe their history, the journeys they have undertaken, and more. Better options for snacks than the cafe. Wish there was an operational steam locomotive for train buffs. Can understand that with the pollution levels in Delhi this might not be a possibility at all, but there’s nothing like witnessing a steam locomotive in action - the steam, the whistle, the massive pistons and connecting rods, and the sense of drama and history that it brings!

National Rail Museum in Delhi is a captivating destination for railway enthusiasts, history buffs, and families alike. As a visitor, you are in for a delightful experience that combines the charm of vintage locomotives with insightful exhibits and engaging activities. First impressions matter, and the National Rail Museum does not disappoint. The entrance itself is adorned with antique coaches, signaling the start of a nostalgic journey. The museum is home to an extensive collection of locomotives, carriages, and other railway artifacts, showcasing the evolution of Indian railways over the years. One of the highlights of the museum is the joyride on the toy train. This 1.5-kilometer ride lets you soak in the ambience of the museum while enjoying a leisurely trip. It's particularly enjoyable for children and adds an element of fun to the overall experience. The indoor exhibits provide a wealth of information about the history and technology behind Indian railways. From vintage steam engines to modern electric and diesel locomotives, each exhibit is accompanied by informative displays and plaques, helping visitors understand their significance. The interactive exhibits, such as simulators and miniature models, allow you to get hands-on with railway operations and learn about the intricacies involved. The museum also hosts several special exhibits and events throughout the year, such as the National Rail Museum Grand Prix, which features model locomotive racing. These activities help make the museum experience more dynamic and engaging, ensuring a return visit is equally rewarding. One of the highlights for many visitors is the Fairy Queen, a magnificent steam locomotive recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest working steam engine. Seeing this majestic engine up close is a treat for railway enthusiasts and a perfect photo opportunity. The museum's sprawling outdoor area is home to various vintage coaches, including the royal carriages used by Indian dignitaries and rulers. The open-air display allows you to wander among the trains, take memorable photographs, and marvel at the engineering prowess of the bygone era. The National Rail Museum also offers a modest cafeteria where you can refuel and grab a bite to eat. However, the options may be limited, and it is advisable to plan accordingly if you have specific dietary preferences. Overall, the National Rail Museum in Delhi is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the history and heritage of Indian railways. With its well-curated exhibits, engaging activities, and the chance to see iconic locomotives up close, it offers an enriching experience for visitors of all ages. Whether you're a railway enthusiast or simply curious about India's transportation history, a visit to this museum is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Nice place.. nothing over the top..but good for children to have a look and feel of the good old railway locos. Could have been maintained better with more reading material on the displayed locomotives. A small train ride is a hit with the children. Ample parking space. Average washrooms. A cafeteria with a limited menu and high prices. Ticket Booking can be done online. Train ride tickets should be bought at the entrance it self. Overall 4 stars for the experience.

Good place for kids and railway enthusiasts. General Chat Chat Lounge Has a number of old landmark locomotives and related accessories. Toy train is the key attraction. A small cafeteria and souvenir shop is also present. Good photo opportunities. Parking is an issue on weekends and they should start app based ticketing.Nice place to spend time with kids, very neat and clean, entry tickets are reasonable too but the only price that I feel is not worth. Is the Toy ride train Rs200 per person is very costly and not reasonable. I would recommend this place to every parent so that they can spend time with their children's and show them the history of Indian Railways

Only one thing that i want to suggest here that there should be multiple digital payment options for tickets. I have visited first time on 15th Feb 2020 but they are asking for cash only. We are promoting India in digital India so we should accept fare by digital mode. Overall this place is amazing for kids and adult both.

Looking for history of Indian Railways? Then this is the right place to look for. In the museum, there are a variety of real train engines from historic India and the place also has an indoor museum which showcases railway functioning, technical aspects, and some games for kids. There's a canteen which wasn't open due to COVID restrictions. Kids will love the place and will enjoy a weekend outing here.

Before i begin i should give disclaimer that this review is only for those who are interested in art, architecture, museum, history etc or else u will curse me after visiting the place. I have visited it 2 yrs back and i am reviewing it today because i just looked the photos we took that day. They are really worth seeing. You can trace the history of indian railways, all important events, all type of models are present. Model looks reallly wonderful. The models of initial trains, i.e coal running etc are worthy enough to be looked. Apart from all those models and photos they do offer u their small train journey that is awesome. That could be great for kids. So overall u will get an awesome experience.

I loved it, a must place to go. I went there with my kid and my father. The toy train was very joyful. Also there was very small train and track, red light and stations as per that cute small theme. Old age engines of all kind are present in real with their respective stories. Also there was games like kbc to play inside with rail related questions. And the models presented in closed area were superb.

Great to place to spend a day with your kids, it has almost all the trains runs by Indian Railway, great history of Indian Railway is shown so well, but some if the things were not working which was disappointing. Like toy train, diesel engine stimulator, the miniature model was n working. But it's highly recommended for parents to visit the place and let your kids learn about Indian Railways.

Most of the rides and attractions were under maintenance. Only museum hall and express train ride were open. Good for those who are interested in railway engineering history as the museum has lot of artefacts and information about Indian railway system since its beginning in India. Kids were interested in train rides only for which separate ticket is purchased. Entry ticket is for museum hall is priced at Rs. 100/- on weekends and Rs. 50/- on weekdays.

It was a great experience visiting National Rail Museum. The train ride is a must-have, though it is just for a few minutes, but it’s exciting and gives the real vibes of sitting in a real train. The museum is also interesting, with engines and things displayed from the establishment of trains in India. For food, there’s one proper canteen where the options are limited, but the taste was good. Since there’s just one canteen, it’s always over crowded. They are planning to make it the rail restaurant style where the food will be served via the train. Washroom facility: 2/5

National rail museum is fun place to visit but try to visit here during weekdays as on weekends ticket price are also high and too much crowd is there and you may get stuck in jam for parking. You can also book your tickets online too avoid long ques during weekends. During weekends and official holidays tickets are 100 of adults and may be 50 for kids and during weekdays it is 50 for adults and 20 for kids not sure for kids. Joy train is fun it's ticket is of 50 rs during weekends and you have to wait approx 1hour depends upon the crowd for your turn. It also a museum which is quite interesting and shows historic railway structures and boxes. They also have a canteen inside which is full during weekends food is ok and it is fully AC, clean and bit delay in service due to crowd.

Beautiful place. There's nothing much to mention about this place.... it's something that is to be explored and seen. Worth visiting. Tickets can be booked online through the website (some extra fee is there) and also through the counter. There's a nice food place inside, drinking water facility, washrooms, snacks/beverages counter sort of. P.S. entry ticket of 50rs is just for entry, to ride on the joy train a separate ticket costing 20rs is required.

It was a good experience... They have engines n trains of different eras. Also has a museum where they have kept miniatures of various trains old n new and parts used to build a train or engine. Also kids n family can enjoy the toy train there for which you have to buy tickets and you have entry fees as well. They have a restaurant also inside the premises only. Good location for a day out with kids. But yes parking is a big problem there it's better you take public transport or cabs.

This place is a mere shadow of what it can be..there is not much items on display there. It can be improved a lot. There are some display regarding the history of railways but there is not much regarding South India, similarly most displays and badges are incomplete ( as in lot of them are missing). Similarly simulator and items are also under maintenance.

This is a wonderful place for occasional visits with family and friends. Location is very accessible especially after the Pink Line has started functioning. For children this can be a good place for recreation and for gaining knowledge. One visit will increase your knowledge about railways/train to many levels above average, considering how less people know or inquire about trains. For train enthusiasts there are few better places. The premise is large and has open displays as well as indoor displays of train models.

This place is so much fun. If you are at all a fan of train travel, history, India, and any combination of these, you will love it. I paid the full 450 rupees, for the entrance and all the simulators and the rides. I noticed it was substantially more for weekends and holidays. It's a nice place and spread over a vast area. There's a small building near the entrance which tells you about the history of Indian railways with different small models and exhibits. Other than that the entire place houses different kinds of worn down trains and engines and some replicas. There's a joy train ride as well but I didn't personally enjoy it that much cause it's very very short. May be if you're with kids and they insist you should go for it, otherwise just walk around, get educated and click tons of pictures.

MUSEUM HISTORY Though initially thought of in 1962, the idea for opening of Transport Museum took a concrete shape in 1970 under the advise of Mr.Michael Graham Satow a rail enthusiast. Shri V.V Giri, the then President of India, laid the foundation stone for the Rail Transport Museum (R.T.M) at its present site in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on October 7, 1971. The Rail Transport Museum was planned as a part of a larger complex covering the history of Railways, Roadways, Airways and Water-ways in India, which later on developed into a full-fledged National Rail Museum in the year 1995. The first of its kind in the country, The National Rail Museum covers a land area of over 11 acres and the indoor gallery comprises an elegantly designed octagonal building, housing six display galleries, and a large open display area laid out to simulate the atmosphere of a railway yard.

The Ring of Delhi is adjacent to the railway. Historical railway engines and coaches are kept here. It does not require too much walking. A special chain system track running in Ooty is also shown here. So do not forget to visit this unique railway museum when you come to Delhi. Will be memorable I will take the children here again. The first children were small. They have grown up now. They will also like it if they are sensible.

The National Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, displays exhibits on the history of rail transport in India. The museum was inaugurated on 1 February 1977. The museum spans over an area of over 11 acres and the indoor gallery comprises of an octagonal building which houses six display galleries and a large open area is laid out to simulate the atmosphere of a railway yard. It is open every day except Mondays and national holidays. It's a wonderful place to spent time with kids and family. It gives you a very informative tour regarding the history of Indian Railways. Toy Train journey is a unique attraction. The premise is well maintained, very neat and clean. Entry tickets are reasonable priced but you have to purchase separate tickets for toy train and few other rides.

    One of the largest rail networks in the world, Indian Railways has been the principal mode of transport in India for almost two centuries. Celebrating this impressive network, the National Rail Museum is sure to delight you with its remarkable display of India’s rail heritage, antique locomotives, exclusive exhibits, train rides and more. Spread over an area of 11 acres, this one-of-a-kind museum offers attractions not just for kids, but for all ages, and makes for a fun learning experience!

One of the most beautiful & calm tourist place in Delhi. It's most underrated & very few knows about it. Need to promote more this kind of places. If you are going to Delhi or staying in Delhi, must go to National rail museum. A must visit place for children too. You will find here history of Indian railways, all kind of prototype of old engines along with few original vapour engines also. You will find a small toy train also to ride. Visit time : you need atleast 2-3 hrs to visit this place without hurry. So if you are going to Delh, must visit this place without giving a second thought.

  • 4/5 Adarsh Das 4. 3 years ago on Google
It was a good experience overall. But improvements can be made. The steam engine simulation was awful, you just couldn't do anything in that. Diesel engine simulation was amazing. Coach simulation could have been better if the coach was actually moving. The garden with the various old locomotives is best and if you are interested in knowing about the history of Indian Railways or railways in general, you should definitely visit this place.

Closes at 5pm..Opened in covid time..The museum is well maintained. Still needs improvement.. since it's national museum..Should include modern trains also..There is not timeline based gallery... A lot can be done for improvement. Basic amenities are missing even at higher ticket cost.. ticket cost is not economical.

I first visited the Rail museum as part of a school trip but I truly recall my visit last year on a whim. The railways are an integral part of our past and our present yet with airports looking to be the future, its important to remember. The museum continues to hold beautiful engines in very good condition. The grounds could do with a little more gardening but the staff puts in tremendous effort to maintain the museum. A must see for anyone looking for a view into India's past. Jai mata di Bharat mata ki jai. Jai hind

Tips: try to reach early, by 10.30 - 11.00, so that you don't face a problem to park your car. Although there is ample space for parking, around 100 cars. Joy train ride is a must for kids, you can try try train also. Use mobile camera to scan the QR codes on the train to know the history. And finally - keep the place clean... cheers

This place is better than it is generally perceived. Lots of working engines, coupe(s) remind us power beast running in bygone era. It is a playful place for kids as well even remind older generation of memories of their era. Their are two types of rides which is exciting, I recommend you all to take a try. I believe charges are a bit on higher side due considering its a National Rail Museum. But overall experience is satisfying.

A good place to pass your time. Here you will get to know the Indian railways history. The museum displays a no. of train models from vintage to latest one. You will also see train simulator and British rail models here too. Just remember don’t forget to take a ride in the train which costs only 20 rupees and thus a main thing in the museum. It will make you visit whole museum within 5 minutes. So if you are planning I would suggest to go via cab or own vehicle.

So we planned a trip to "The national Rail Museum" one day to go back in time when we used to come here on school trips. It had been a lot of years since then, but the moment we reached here, i cant explain the nostalgic feeling. This place is amazing even for adults. You come across beautiful old trains , you visit the railway museum and learn how things work and hiw difficult it was to make such huge machinery. You will see how engineering has evolved. I personally think that this place is for every age group, apart from the enjoyment and fun, people can actually learn amazing things and understand the working of such machines. Do pay a visit guys.

Amazing and Knowledgeable place for hangout with kids. Museum offers a vivid history of Indian rail till time present along with a train ride for both kids and adults. Monday closed. Ticket price is pocket friendly. ₹50/-. One can also enjoy delicacies like bhel puri and ice cream outside the museum.

  • 3/5 Gautham K. 1 year ago on Google
It has a good advantage in terms of location and the literary history of the Railways. A placid place in the middle of Delhi. But staff response and service is utmost poor. No guidance, certain features are rotting. The ambience is the only thing keeping it on its toes.

  • 2/5 Priyanshu H. 1 year ago on Google
Average place, good for kids up to age 15 and those who have interest in trains. Tickets are expensive on weekends and crowded too. Joy train was decent you can enjoy it if in a group. Some vintage trains made location photogenic good for retro feelings. Book tickets online to skip the queue.

I love visiting rail museums all around the world. This one had a unique collection of historical displays and artifacts from the Indian railway system. The organization and interpretive signs were not always present or clear. The collection could be better organized chronologically and the outdoor collection is a bit cluttered. They did include some good information about the future of the Indian railway system. If you have kids there is a train ride that provides a quick tour of the outdoor collection. If you're an avid train museum person you'll likely be disappointed by this museum. But for a 1-2 hour visit it's worth it for a few of the unique royal wagons and indoor artifact displays.

  • 4/5 Shishir S. 9 months ago on Google
The museum displays a vast collection of vintage steam locomotives, carriages, and other historical artifacts related to the Indian Railways. Visitors can explore the indoor gallery that houses various exhibits, including antique locomotives, historical photographs, and miniature models. One of the highlights of the museum is the Fairy Queen, the oldest operational steam locomotive in the world. There is also an outdoor display area where visitors can see different types of locomotives, coaches, and other railway equipment. Overall a good place for children. The government needs to improve on infrastructure and water etc.

Nicely maintained rail museum. From 1886 till 2022 every rail and engine has been shown in the museum. Visited it with family. Food court has very few menus but so-so quality. Quantity was very huge. Basically one biryani was sufficient for two. Same with paratha. One should visit this museum to know more about Indian railway

Nice place where u can spend 2 hours of ur day outing. Specially kids may enjoy old steam engines and toy train ride. Ticket prices are just double on weekends. Go and enjoy ur day in a cloudy day.

Location Chanakyapuri near Bhutanese Embassy Entry fees: 60 Toy train: 20 need to take all the tickets from the entry point. Rides are not available instantly in the toytrain. Exhibits: Rail coaches, locos of different timelines of Indian Railways Armoured military Train, old state coaches of Princely states, Patiala old monorail, old coaches and locos of Heritage railways incl matheran, kalka-shimla, Darjeeling, Nilgiris are available. Coal, and oldest Diesel and Electric locos are worth seeing for enthusiasts. Visitors are not allowed to enter into the locos or coaches on display. The museum operates a light and sound show probably but don't know whether it's still working after the covid19. Among the 2 ridable toy trains, only one is functional, which is a narrow gauge toy train, The other small one was informed to be not working but we can see it's rains all over and also artificial tunnels and stations made for that with classical resemblance. An artificial mountain railway station is built on the top of another artificial tunnel of narrow gauge toy train which is so much in resemblance with the original heritage mountain stations. The restaurant is not seemingly working but a tuckshop and ice cream parlour is available. Inside the Museum Models of old, railway coaches, as well as modern coaches, coal and other locos, rail related structures, are on display. Souvenirs of Indian railways are available inside the Museum. M Vishweshwaraiya Metro, moti bagh stations of Pink Line are the nearest. The museum is in walking distance from the station. We visited on a weekday probably so the rush was not there. Cash as well as card payments are available at the entry counter. Otherwise advanced online bookings are available via the website.

It's a good exploration for kids and the one who has not visited much on the train. Lots of trains to explore even 100 year old trains are there. Rail museum is designed in a very nice way that kids/elders can learn a lot about engines and inventions done over the years. There is a souvenir shop as well of geniune leather products and railway 🚂 samples. For eating nothing much is there, a common shop of junk food is around if you need a quick bite, else CP is not far. The toy train is no longer operational, only the joy train is there and the entire crowd is after that, so choose your timing accordingly. There are miniatures of different places also kept in small parks, its also a unique thing to watch. But overall it's a fun day activity along with kids, so what are you waiting for, pack your bags and go out.

  • 5/5 Ajay N. 5 months ago on Google
Great place for kids and families. There is Joy train available and Cafeteria. The experience can be further improved by providing interactive toy/small trains for kids. Note - the rail museum at Mysuru is also good.

  • 4/5 Akash K. 6 months ago on Google
A good place to go with your little kids... not for people with ages 16+ as they will get bored easily... the place is very neat and clean and can be visited with family for picnics but that too on the days where the weather is good... some of the locations inside it will surely be picture perfect for you and don't miss the joy ride train... Coming to food you get low priced food but that's because you have to compromise on the taste... the food is served by IRCTC managed company and there is seating of only 40-50 people max...

  • 5/5 Ankit k. 5 months ago on Google
The museum is spread over 11 acres of land, and is divided into two parts: an indoor section and an outdoor section. The indoor section houses exhibits on the history of Indian Railways, from its early days in the 1850s to the present day. There are also exhibits on the different types of locomotives and carriages that have been used in India over the years, as well as on the various railway technologies that have been developed. The outdoor section of the museum is where you can see the locomotives and carriages up close. There are a variety of different locomotives on display, including steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. There are also a variety of different carriages on display, including passenger carriages, mail carriages, and even a royal carriage.

Amazing place for kids as well as for all other people who are curious about the history of our great Indian railways. You can see here many iconic rail engines, boggies etc. A very funtastic toy train ride available here. A nicely maintained museum will surprise you. Definitely a worth place to visit with your kids. ** You can also buy some items from there inhouse store. And a good restaurant is also there. *P.S. : Monday Closed.

National rail museum is a good place for kids , i think your kid will really enjoy that place because they can see different old trains which is abolish . Your kid can also enjoy a joy train . I suggest you that while taking the ticket purchase a joy train ticket also then you can take ride.

Buying ticket is very easy and affordable. You can also book your tickets online. It’s a very good and very underrated place for family. They have a small cafeteria as well. You are not allowed to claim on the trains, else you’ll be fined ₹500. They have joytrain as well. You can buy its ticket from counter. You will find mostly all type of vintage engines.
