Lots of visitors at any time of day. Floor gets hot during summer and cleanliness is an issue. Foreigners should be beware of thugs in guise of guides. Dress fully covered due to religious issues. Beautiful place to visit. You can see love, devotion, togetherness of people inside this ancient Masjid. Market around this place has huge number of non vegetarian food, for all foodies. If you have never visited this place, you should come here, once in your life time. This place is packed during Ramzan month. Whole night, the market is open for eating.Very beautiful place with beautiful architecture you’ll definitely will fall in love with the architecture there. It a walking distance from Red Fort but you also can take a rickshaw. There are 3 gates and you can keep your shoes outside for ₹10 per shoe. You can take beautiful pictures there.

Very imposing mosque worth a visit. Following the correct dress code is important to show respect here. Shoes must be left outside and ladies even if dressed modestly are given clean robes to cover up with. It's a very special place and visited by many every day.

We visited the beautiful Jama Masjid, which is the largest mosque in India. It is located in the heart of Old Delhi and represents the reveals the splendor of the Mughal dynasty.🥰 We were impressed by this beautiful red sandstone and white marble monument with its two 40 meter high minarets and bulbous domes. From the esplanade, we saw a large courtyard with basins where the faithfuls do their ablution before praying 🙇🙏 To visit the mosque, we had to take off shoes, cover our arms/legs and respect the silence. A sumptuous and dazzling mosque 🕌

No words for the evening scenic beauty of this place. "Firstly be aware of pocket pickers...." You've to submit your footwear to one concerned person who charges Rs.10 for each pair or you can carry it in your hands. "Don't wear them inside." The floor is very hot when you go in summers. The water of this place is like others. If you're habitual of Mineral Water then you can buy it from just outside the main gate. The ticket of the tower is Rs.50 per person. The whole tower comprises of 130 stairs. Plus you've to climb some extra stairs to reach the entry of tower. There is suffocation inside the tower because the walls are thick, the space is less and people are also present. But once you reach the view from the top melts the heart.

Jama Masjid is a true gem in the heart of Delhi. The mosque's beauty is unparalleled, with its majestic architecture, intricate designs, and peaceful ambience. The red sandstone walls, white marble domes, and tall minarets create a striking visual that will leave you in awe. As you enter the courtyard, you will be greeted by the serene sound of the call to prayer and the sight of devotees praying in harmony. The vast expanse of the courtyard, surrounded by the mosque's magnificent architecture, offers a sense of calm and tranquility that is hard to find in the hustle and bustle of Delhi. The mosque's interior is equally mesmerizing, with its high ceilings, adorned with delicate Islamic calligraphy, and the intricately designed arches that add to its grandeur. The view from the top of the minaret is breathtaking and provides an unobstructed view of the cityscape. Overall, Jama Masjid is a must-visit for anyone seeking beauty, peace, and spiritual inspiration. It is a true masterpiece of Islamic architecture and a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India. I highly recommend visiting this mosque and immersing yourself in its serene atmosphere.

We came here on the way to the Red Fort, we had thought it was free. It isn't free for foreigners - it is 300 idr, I have included a photo of the board showing prices. It's a pretty nice place to come, there's not much to it but some amazing architecture and some beautiful photo opportunities. A gown is provided for anyone with legs or arms exposed.

The mosque itself is beautiful, one of the highlights of Old Delhi. Good place to learn about religion, history, culture. But personally i don’t like to visit this place again. There is no shoes shelf, someone will charge money when you take them (reason is he looks after the shoes), other staff come show us where to take photos even though we don’t need and then ask for money. We feel annoyed when come here.

The atmosphere is magical. There is a small bazaar just in the entrance. Really cool place first in the morning. I would suggest to buy tickets before if you sont have any cash. Shoes off so bring a bag to carry or leave outside for 100.

MARVELOUS!!! An amazing piece of architecture and history. A beautiful pocket of calm at the heart of Old Delhi's mayhem, also known as Masjid-e-Jahan Numa. The marble and red-sandstone structure, known also as the ‘Friday Mosque’ There are numerous entrance gates, but only South Gate, East Gate, North Gate allow access to the mosque for visitors. If you're a foreigner, try going here with a guide. I've seen numerous people trying to rip off foreigners. Worth A Visit.

The Jama Masjid is one of India's largest mosques and was the final architectural feat of Shah Jahan. Completed in 1658, this beautiful structure features three gateways, four angled towers, and two 40-meter-high minarets built using red sandstone and white marble and attractively alternated in vertical stripes.

A definitive visit if you are in Delhi. Also, if you aren't from Delhi & are here for a visit, make sure Jama Masjid is a holy place you must visit. Situated in the heart of purani Dilli, Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India. I've been here multiple times during different occasions and each time I've jusr felt really wonderful. It is always good visiting Jama Masjid.

It is a historical holy site but nothing much to see as its not allowed to enter the mosque. There is no entry fee. It is a walking distance from the nearby Delhi Metro stop. Good to save a maximum of an hour for this visit. The most exciting part of the visit was to stroll through the nearby market. Note: You need to leave your shoe outside.

It's a very crowded place yet worth visiting. There's a big market leading the way towards the masjid. Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656, and inaugurated by its first Imam, Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari. Situated in the Mughal capital of Shahjahanabad (today Old Delhi), it served as the imperial mosque of the Mughal emperors until the demise of the empire in 1857. The Jama Masjid was regarded as a symbolic node of Islamic power across India, well into the colonial era. It was also a site of political significance during several key periods of British rule. It remains in active use, and is one of Delhi's most iconic sites. Evening is the best time to visit cause lighting makes it look more divine. It's a religious place and so of course it will bring peace to you. Haji Imran Sheermal around Jama masjid is very tasty, don't forget to try it. Cost is around 150 to 200. Thanks for reading ❤️

Best to visit during evenings that too in winter. A real religious place with utmost divinity but everyone irrespective of religion can come and visit the place. Usually crowded for prayers and the streets are tightly packed with various stalls including wide variety of foods.

Decent place to visit when you're around Old Delhi and the Red Fort. When it's very sunny, the floor can get extremely hot and painful to walk on. As at many tourist attractions in India the entrance for locals is free whereas foreigners are charged 300 INR. Inside I had staff offer to take photos of me just to ask for an additional payment. If you want to access the tower there's an additional charge.

This is probably one of the most beautiful mosques across the globe and you can smell history from every corner. The Hauz, the minarets, the steps everything is extraordinary.. But within this amazing structure built by Shahjehan lies a very spiritual and serene mosque .. just sit here and connect with The God.. Its a life changing experience

Entry is free. Be mindful of your shoes. Do not enter with your footwear. Don't forget to view Red Fort from here. It's a view to remember. From the main gate, if you stand on the stairs.. you can see all the hustle bustle of the market. The mosque is a beauty. You'll love the architecture. It's visible from nearby places so you won't find it difficult to get here. Enjoy.

It is our first stop in our New Delhi trip. It is located int he middle of the city and the mosque is elevated that you need to take the stairs. They also have a security check so it is best not to have a bag with you for easy entry. To enter the mosque, you need to take off your shoes. Either you enter barefoot or with socks. We were told that we can use the hotel slippers so some brought it. You also need to think about what to wear as sleeveless shirt and shorts are not allowed. I suggest you bring extra clothes with you (if you want) to conform with the rules. Although scarfs and garments are available at the entrance for free, I suggest you bring your own for hygienic purposes! The mosque is really big and impressive. The color is also nice. Although it is a warm day, the stones are not really hot. You are free to roam around and explore.

Impressive mosque but unbelievably impolite staff at the entry. In addition, it's ridiculous from my perspective to charge for entry for a place of religion and worship. It's written that the entry fee only applies for foreigners but how do they know? They just assume from the colour of skin and thus being racist. Not cool at all and not how it should be in a mosque. In front of God, all are equal!

The two hours spent here was most relaxing, got the steps in too. Lots of photography scope and as an artist, the colours, shapes and patterns are just breathtaking. Clean, calm, civilised, welcoming surroundings. Foreigner ticket of 700 rupees about £7 sterling was definitely worth it. Loved it

It’s def has an architectural importance, but it’s not at all maintained, the toilets are literally older than the main structure itself- impossible to use for outsiders. You goto pay an extra 70 for the view from one of the top pillars- def worth a try. The area is extremely crowded and should be planned beforehand. Local transport are more easily available from the front side.

Fortunately the gate staffs there provided the clothes for the ladies and slippers before allows us to enter the mosque. We engaged a local guide and we took 40mins to 1 hour to go around.

Nice and peaceful place. One amazing thing that you will notice Is that you are not allowed to wear shoes in your hands but you can take your shoes off and carry them in your hands. Didn't understand the logic behind but it seemed cool. The place is big enough and the market outside is amazing. Just stay away form electronic devices and gadgets as they are not even a first copy. Everything is fake. Also do bargain.

Enormous scope for improvement. This is the iconic Jama Masjid and it's surrounded by narrow crowded - choked streets. It's a task to reach here. Plus the maintenance is very poor. They even charge for getting on the minar, while it remains in dilapidated condition. There is no breathing space here, the surroundings of this place must be cleared.

The great mosque of Old Delhi is the final architectural extravagance of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. ... The mosque measures 65m by 35m, and its court forms a square of 100m. Built in 1656, it is an eloquent reminder of the Mughal religious fervour.

Jama Masjid of Delhi, Jama Masjid also spelled Jāmiʿ Masjid, Jama Masjid of Delhi also called Masjid-i Jahānnumā, mosque in Old Delhi, India, constructed in 1650–56 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahān, a noted patron of Islamic architecture whose most famous work is the Taj Mahal, in Agra. Jama Masjid, now the second largest mosque on the Indian subcontinent, is also an impressive example of Mughal architecture.

The Jama Masjid was built as a part of Shah Jahan's new capital in Delhi, Shahjahanabad. At the time of its construction, it was the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent. Shah Jahan claimed that the mosque was modelled after the Jama Masjid of Fatehpur Sikri, and this is reflected in the design of many exterior features, such as the facade and courtyard. However, the interior of the mosque more closely resembles the Jama Masjid in Agra. The mosque predominantly uses red sandstone, and is set apart from its predecessors by a more extensive usage of white marble. Black marble also features as a decorative element.Arabic and Persian calligraphic pieces are found on various surfaces of the structure, whose content ranges from religious to panegyric.

Masjid-i-Jehan-Numa, commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan between 1644 and 1656. It served as the imperial mosque of the Mughal emperors. The Jama Masjid was regarded as a symbolic gesture of Islamic power across India well into the colonial era. The mosque predominantly uses red sandstone and is set apart from its predecessors by more extensive usage of white marble. Black marble also features as a decorative element. It is situated on a plinth elevated 10 meters above the surrounding city. The square sahn (courtyard) is paved with red sandstone and faces the eastern gate. It has a side length of at least 99 m and can accommodate 25,000 Muslims. The prayer hall measures 61 meters in length and 27 meters in breadth. Three marble domes rise up from its roof, featuring golden finials. The facade of the prayer hall features a grand pishtaq in the center, flanked by five smaller, cusped archways on either side. Above each archway of the prayer hall are some calligraphic pieces. The hall's interior bears seven mihrabs (prayer niches) on the western qibla wall, corresponding to the seven bays into which the hall is divided. The central mihrab is intricately decorated and clad in marble, with a marble minbar (pulpit) lying to its right. The hall is floored with white and black ornamented marble to look like a Muslim prayer mat.

Once we enter we first have to take off our shoes, not that well maintained so the floors are pretty nasty although no one entering with shoes. However the surrounding walls were something else with detailing architecture. Including wind catcher on top to cool the surrounding areas inside. It was a bomber that I didn’t go to the top of the tower for from what I’ve heard it was amazing.

A giant mosque sits on a hill in Old Delhi, with views of the city unlike anywhere else. Marble and maximal use of red sandstone, vibrant and earthy, used for the vast courtyard, outer walls, halls, and minarets of which you can climb to the 40m balcony. A moment of calm when you exit the bustle of the Old Delhi streets allows you to appreciate the architecture.

One of large and oldest masjid in india and its very famous in india.. Very poorly maintained. Even though I am from a different faith, I felt bad for the state it is in. Surrounded by filthy streets and beggars. No lighting in the premises other than the mosque itself in the nights. Women are not allowed to visit after 5 PM. Even the entrance was filthy. Having recently visited Jama Masjid in Delhi, I was left awe-struck by the sheer beauty and historical significance that this iconic monument holds. As a student eager to learn about India's rich heritage, stepping into the courtyard of.. This is one of the biggest mosques in India. I am not sure why there is so much fuss about this place. If you are a tourist you can easily skip this place. There is nothing specific about this place but if you want to have classic old Delhi food then you can find a lot of restaurants nearby including Kareem and al jawahar. Went there on a Sunday at around 0900. Could not enter because they allow entry at 1100 don't know the reason. There are different gates, gate 1 opens first. Gate 2 is near by the metro station and gate 3 is mainly for diplomats and VIPs. I can't describe the vibe of this place.. One of the biggest and famous mosque in Delhi 😍 Close to Jama masjid metro 🚇 (violetline) architecture is beautiful👌 Birds , pigeon and calmness in chaos. Muslim majority destination with other religion people also visiting with family and friends. Negative is maintenance and cleanliness of the surrounding area ! 😏it's not clean at all . U have to remove ur shoes before entering to main entrance (bring ur bag with u for safe keeping of ur shoes) 50 rupees ticket for entering to main tower from where u will get mesmerizing view of capital city , it's best thing of the place do definitely go for tower . U will clearly see Red fort from that height Although stairs of tower is very congested 🤪and u will breathless while climbing upstairs 😵 but it's worth it. ! Enjoy 🧐

The brotherhood and cultural melting pot that India is, is typified by the Jama Masjid where everyone is welcome. Nobody checks your allegiance when you enter. India should consider itself lucky and preserve our assimilative and welcoming culture. Everyone in the world should be welcome here.

Best to visit in the evening and that too in winters. A real religious place with utmost divinity but everyone regardless of religion can come and visit the place. The interior of the mosque is equally mesmerizing, with its high ceilings adorned with delicate Islamic calligraphy, and intricately designed arches that add to its grandeur. The view from the top of the tower is breathtaking and provides an unobstructed view of the cityscape. The mosque itself is beautiful, one of the main attractions of Old Delhi. Good place to learn about religion, history, culture. All in all, Jama Masjid is a must visit for anyone seeking beauty, peace and spiritual inspiration. It is a true masterpiece of Islamic architecture and a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India. I highly recommend visiting this mosque and immersing yourself in its serene atmosphere. You can also relish food and sweets from the restaurants opposite the mosque which are famous for their taste. Best to visit in the evening and that too in winters. A real religious place with utmost divinity but everyone regardless of religion can come and visit the place. Follow me for more. Thank you!

Jama Masjid is a unique mosque of Mughal architecture made of red stones and marble. Just 500 meters from Red Fort. At a distance lies the Jama Masjid which is one of the largest mosques in India. The construction of this mosque was started by Shahjahan in 1650. It took 6 years and Rs 10 lakh to build it. Built of sandstone and white marble, this mosque has 3 gates to enter. This mosque is a must-see site for all tourists, entry to which is free. A ticket costs Rs 70 to enter the minaret of this mosque, from where you can get a better view of Jama Masjid and its surrounding area.

This sacred place is one of the largest tourist attraction point. Though it is a religious place, many non Muslims often visit this place and fond of the architecture created and curated by the mughals. From every point of view, this place deserve more attention, need to maintain the proper cleanliness. The outside area of masjid is too crowded which need to be managed and planned properly for better tourism development.

This architecture is great but should be more well equipped and maintained since this could be everyone's favourite place very soon. Even though kindly note that No proper maintenance will lead to most hated place in the city

A beautiful and large famous Mosque. The view is spectacular when thousands of people pray at the same time. The famous Old Delhi has many tourists attractions including Jama Masjid. I loved the food stores where you may find something interesting and delicious. Sweet shops are famous but keep yourself open minded to try any new food. Shops are round the corner from the Jama Masjid.

First time i visited this beautiful place called Jama Masjid, which is the largest mosque in India. It is located in the heart of Old Delhi, this place was so beautiful red sandstone and white marble, to enter the mosque, we had to take off shoes, cover our arms/legs and respect the silence.overall nice place and nice experience.🕌

  • 5/5 Faiz P. 1 year ago on Google
Jama Masjid is a mosque built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan during his reign. Many tourists from all over the world come here to enjoy its beauty. It is open to all religions and does not require a separate ticket. But to climb up you have to take a ticket of 50rs, the view from the top is amazing. Chapels and shoes cannot be used inside the mosque.

  • 5/5 ᴡᴀꜱᴇᴇᴍ . 1 year ago on Google
The Jama Masjid was regarded as a symbolic node of Islamic power across India, well into the colonial era. It was also a site of political significance during several key periods of British rule. It remains in active use, and is one of Delhi's most iconic sites, closely identified with the ethos of Old Delhi.

Beautifully built excellent view of old Delhi and markets look for miles on a clear day. We spent quite a bit of time here to be able to experience the size of it and the capacity of it. Stone work is beautiful are doing work on it. The folk in charge were very helpful provided us with gowns to wear to enter too. Such a lovely place to be able to see. We went at 9am in the morning when a little cooler. 🙏🙏💖💖

Such an impressive structure! A testament to some of the golden days of Indian history. The minaret offers an amazing view, albeit the crowd making it a claustrophobic experience. Highly recommend visiting it even if you are on a short trip in Delhi.

This stunning mosque is located in Old Delhi. Considered to be one of the largest and most important mosques of India, it is almost entirely made of red sandstone and white marble. It is truly an architectural marvel. Make sure to open your shoes before entering and don't just leave them anywhere.Your legs may burn during afternoon cuz no shoes. There are carpets alloted to walk on to prevent burns . I recommend visiting during the evening when it becomes cool. Pro tip- Climb on top of the minarets to get breathtaking views of Delhi. Thank you

Is within walking distance from from the red fort be careful with your belongings when walking up to the mosque. I had to pay an entrance fee as a foreigner and for something to cover my legs. Was worth seeing if your in the area.

Jama masjid is situated in old Delhi. It is one of the iconic places of Delhi. We find it very crowded so it is recommended to visit in the morning. Besides masjid you will find the street shops of clothes, watches, bags and street foods. Don't forget to enter the street food lane to enjoy the food and mohabot Ka sharbat .

One of the largest mosques in India, Jama Masjid is situated in Old Delhi. Its construction was started in 1644 and completed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Made of red sandstone and marble, this gorgeous mosque is also called Masjid-I-Jahanuma, meaning the mosque commanding the view of the world.

  • 1/5 Mahesh K. 4 months ago on Google
Very poorly maintained. Even though I am from a different faith, I felt bad for the state it is in. Surrounded by filthy streets and beggars. No lighting in the premises other than the mosque itself in the nights. Women are not allowed to visit after 5 PM. Even the entrance was filthy.

  • 3/5 Flo 4 months ago on Google
Well, pretty expensive (300) for that what you can see. I guess it must be phenomenal when you can experience a prayer. But without it's just a huge court.

I went to Delhi for the interview, so when my interview was done ✔️ so I had a lot of time to take my flight to udaipur, so I decided to visit Jama Masjid. The place is truly beautiful as the Mughal famous for their architectural design ❤️ I prayed inside the Gumbad of Jama Masjid. Love the place, and I hope I'll visit again if Allah will give me the chance 😊

What beautiful architecture. Really good architecture. Even though the streets are congested, but that is the beauty of jama masjid. The food stalls nearby are heavenly. One of the best Street food places to visit in entire India.

  • 3/5 Vipin P V. 4 months ago on Google
Went there on a Sunday at around 0900. Could not enter because they allow entry at 1100 don't know the reason. There are different gates, gate 1 opens first. Gate 2 is near by the metro station and gate 3 is mainly for diplomats and VIPs. For the less privileged it opens after 1200. Way from metro to gate 2 is very crowded, the roads on other sides are wide and was that busy in the morning. Road to various eateries start from gate 1. There is a parking lot in front of gate 3. Don't know normal people are allowed to park there.
