The Amar Jawan Jyoti, which had been burning for more than five decades to honour the martyrs of the armed forces, was merged on Friday with a newer flame located less than 400m away in the newly built National War Memorial. Both are located in the India Gate complex, which was inaugurated in 1931 in memory of Indian soldiers who died fighting for the British Raj. The Amar Jawan Jyoti inspired generations of Indians and became an iconic image. Television coverage of India's Republic Day parades always started with visuals of the flame.

Salute to all our brave soldiers who sacrifice their life . And also who gave tribute at standing position first I thought it was a puppet but eventually when I saw the exchange ceremony I was mad as standing person was a real person standing and tributing 30 min is not cup of tea of everyone

The attraction of this place is at evening while honouring by an event. Now it's more beautiful with some memories and history of our soldiers. Amar Jawan Jyoti is located under India Gate at Rajpath in New Delhi. It consists of a marble pedestal on which a cenotaph is situated. "Amar Jawan" (Immortal Soldier) is scripted in gold on all four sides of the cenotaph and on top, a L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle is placed on its barrel and is capped by a helmet of the Unknown Soldier. The pedestal is bound by four urns, in one of which a flame has been burning continuously (using CNG) since 1971.The person responsible for keeping the flame burning lives in a room under the arch, next to the perpetually burning flame. From 1971 to 2006, LPG was used as fuel source and from 2006, CNG is used as source. Each of the four urns has a flame but only one of the four flames burns throughout the year; on Indian Independence and Republic Days, all flames are lit simultaneously. The Amar Jawan Jyoti is manned 24/7 by soldiers from the Army, Air Force and the Indian Navy. Amar Jawan Jyoti is also located at Amar Chakra of National War Memorial. The Memorial has four concentric circles and a central obelisk, at the bottom of which burns an 'eternal flame' representing the immortal soldier (amar jawan). The pedestal is bound by four urns, in which flame has been burning continuously (using CNG) since the inauguration. The President and Prime Minister visit this memorial on National Days including but not limited to Republic Day and Independence Day. The Chief of Defence Staff , along with Army Chief, Navy Chief, and Air Force Chief also visits the monument on respective Service Days to pay tribute to the fallen Heroes of the Nation, post Independence.

Amar Jawan Jyoti is established in the memory of our martyred soldiers. Here is the light of love which shines 24*7. A memorial has been built here for the Kargil war and our martyrs. The names of martyred soldiers are written here on wall. A lot has been said here about war. Here you can skate for free of cost. You will get positive feeling after visiting here. Amar Jawan Jyoti is built just behind India Gate. A lot of attention is paid to cleanliness here.

Creation of Bangladesh was majorly assisted by India during which many Indian soldiers lost their lives. In December 1971, after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Indira Gandhi (then Prime Minister of India) helped pay to construct the Amar Jawan Jyoti under the India Gate to commemorate the dead and unknown soldiers who died invading Pakistan. On 26 January 1972 (23rd Republic Day of India), the monument was officially inaugurated by Indira Gandhi. Since 1972, every-year on the Republic Day (before the Republic Day parade), it has been customary for the President, Prime Minister, Chief of the Air Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff, Chief of the Army Staff and dignitaries to place wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti and pay homage to the dead and unknown soldiers. The main structure (India Gate) was originally constructed in 1921 by Edwin Lutyens. Amar Jawan Jyoti was added under the India Gate in 1971.

JAI HIND The forty five degree weather could mot prevent me from an ever memorable vist to National war memorial (Amar jawan jyothy). India gate complex mainly consists of India gate, National war memorial (Amar Jawan Jyothy) and Param Yodha Sthal. Param Yodha sthal is under renovation and we cannot enter there now. I think there is no need to explain the importance and history of these monuments here. No entry fee is there to visit this complex. But, you are under surveillance of our Jawans. Evening is the best time to visit the place. It is a large hexagonal park. Facilities available to pay our tributes digitally to Vir Jawans. A Souvenir shop available near north gate ( on our way to exit) There you can purchase some valuable items related to our armed force. Neat toilet complex and Drinking water is available near to it. But, it is better to keep drinking water with you as covering the entire area will take some hours and general hot climate will make you tired. Near the entry gate you can have some chtas, cut fruits, cut vegetables etc. Restaurants etc are not available near by. You cab reach here from New delhi railway station by by metro by taking a single ticket p to Khan market. But you have to change from the yellow line metro to Violet line at central secretariat station. Khan market station is about 1.5 km away from India gate. Bus No. 894C also will lead you to India gate entry with cheap rate At exit gate lot of auto rickshaws are waiting for you. But I think there is no regulation on the retes.

It is certainly a Landmark place/monument of India which people of all walks of life come throughout the year to pay homage [those who know that it was built in 1931 and names of martyrs of World War-I are inscribed on its walls] or just comes to enjoy green empty spaces and trees or weather. But wait! India Gate was built by britishers. India got its own national war memorial [राष्ट्रीय समर(युद्ध)स्मारक] on 26 February 2019 just behind India Gate and new Amar Jawan Jyoti in the middle. It is just not ordinary place to pay obeisance but a splendidly beautiful pilgrimage. It is built in memory of our martyrs of conflicts/battles/wars fought with Pakistan, Pakistan sponsored infiltrators and China from 1947 to 1962 to 1965 to 1971 to 1999 and years in between. Martyrs names are inscribed at eye level in granite in golden colour lined up in rows and lit up colourfully. Every battle is Explained bilingually. Must visit in day and also in night. All day open till 7:30pm.

The Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate consisted of a base of 15 square feet with a height of 4 feet 3 inches on which there was a black marble pedestal, a cenotaph, 3 feet 2 inches in height. "Amar Jawan" was scripted in gold in Hindi on all four sides of the cenotaph and on top, a reversed rifle capped by a war helmet. The pedestal was bound by four urns.[10] On observances the flames were lit accordingly. It was constructed in a short timeframe as per Prime Minister Indira Gandhi wishes. A new flame was installed at the National War Memorial to honour all known martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces of independent India. It was completed in February 2019 and inaugurated by Prime Ministe Narendra Modi on 25 February with the igniting of the flame. The flame at the center of India Gate was merged with this new one by the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Air Marshal Balabhadhra Radha Krishna. Debate ensued with regard to the old and new monuments, related to semantics, history, politicisation and symbolism.
