Yogmaya Temple, also known as the Jogmaya Temple, is an ancient Hindu shrine situated in the heart of Mehrauli, a few hundred meters away from the famous Qutub Minar. The temple is rather secluded, hidden inside the walls of Lal-Kot among all the houses that surround it. Although the temple is not so famous with the general public of Delhi, it still holds value for the residents of Mehrauli who are seen worshipping and chanting prayers here almost every day.

In 12th-century Jain scriptures, Mehrauli place is also mentioned as Yoginipura, after the temple. The temple is believed to be built by the Pandavas, at the end of Mahabharatawar. Mehrauli is one of the seven ancient cities that make up the present state of Delhi. The temple was first renovated during the rule of Mughal Emperor Akbar II (1806–37) by Lala Sethmal. The temple lies 260 yards from the Iron Pillarin the Qutb complex, and within the Lal Kotwalls, the first fortress citadel of Delhi, constructed by the Tomar/Tanwar Rajput King Anangpal I around AD 731 and expanded by King AnangPal II in the 11th century who also constructed Lal Kot.

It feels sad to see how places of historical significance are encroached. On the entrance of it are car and vehicles of people living around is parked but as you enter the main gate you do feel simplicity of a temple and divine environment. Temple is said to be centuries old, but the restoration has modernized it. I feel the place would be of more interest if it has some old-world charm.

The Yogmaya temple of Mehrauli, South Delhi is one of the 51 Shaktipeethas, the head of the Goddess had fallen here. It is believed that temple was built 5000 years ago and the main idol of Yogmaya is an incarnation of Durga and born as sister of Lord Krishna. The temple is also an integral part of an important annual festival 'Phool walon ki Sair' of Delhi. The Yogmaya hindu temple is very famous amongst local and devotees from adjoining states as well. A very peaceful and divine place, but it needs restoration. Lucky to have blessings of all Navdurga under one roof !!!

Nice temple. Its in the middle of a residential colony. But the priests don't let you do the darshan properly and rush/push you out of the main shrine even when there was no rush... the staff and pandits were quite rude to the new faces... they were only treating properly the residents around the temple or the local people whom, it seemed they knew.

Historical importance of this place can't be denied. The place is peacefull and have alot to be learned about. If you visit Mehrauli in search of history this is the place you should not skip at any cost. The ambience is amazing. Its connection with qutub sahab dargah makes it a symbol for communal harmony. Parking facility is available right in front of the mandir just Rs 10 per hour

The temple is one of the oldest in Delhi and has a rich history dating back to the Mahabharata era. According to legend, the temple was built by the Pandavas during their exile in the forest. The temple's architecture is a blend of Hindu and Islamic styles, with intricate carvings and a dome-shaped roof. The temple's sanctum sanctorum houses the deity of Yogmaya, who is worshipped by devotees with great devotion and fervor. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful garden that adds to its serene atmosphere. The garden has several trees and plants, including a banyan tree that is believed to be over 500 years old. Visitors to the temple can participate in various religious ceremonies and rituals, including aarti and bhajan. The temple also hosts several festivals throughout the year, including Navratri and Diwali. The temple's location in Mehrauli also makes it a popular tourist destination. The area is home to several other historical monuments, including the Qutub Minar and the Mehrauli Archaeological Park.In summary, Yog Maya Mandir in Mehrauli is a beautiful and historic Hindu temple that is worth visiting for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and serene atmosphere.

Yogmaya Temple, also Jogmaya temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Yogmaya, also considered to be a sister of Krishna as she took avatar as Vindhyavasini, and situated in Mehrauli, New Delhi, India, close to the Qutb complex. According to local priests and native records, this is one of those 27 temples destroyed by Mamluks and it is the only surviving temple belonging to pre-sultanate period which is still in use. Hindu king Samrat Vikramaditya Hemu reconstructed the temple and brought back the temple from ruins. During Aurangzeb's reign a rectangular Islamic Style hall was added to the temple. Though its original (300-200 BC) architecture could never be restored after its destruction by Islamic rulers, but its reconstruction had been carried out repetitively by the locals.

Yogmaya mandir is a devi mandir, that is present in Mehrauli. It is ancient than the more famous chattarpur mandir which is near too. Attached photo provides a background of the temple. Here in the main sanctum, there is no idol but a pindi form which indicates it being some shakipeeth.

Yogamaya temple is such a house which is our mother's house for all of us but some priests or their family members are very adulterous. Which you ignore. I have not gone to my mother's house for a long time due to some reasons and will go to my mother's house soon. I pray to my mother that she keeps everyone happy and healthy. Except for the enemies because there is no forgiveness for the enemies.

A temple is not a place to be reviewed. Also I regularly visit this temple and I get good vibes there. So I think everyone should go, at least for once.
