Located in the Lodi Gardens in Delhi, the tomb of Sikander Lodi was built by his son, Ibrahim Lodi. The construction of the tomb was started in 1517 and ended in 1518. The village, where the monument stands was earlier called Khairpur. Currently, the tomb is under the administration of the Archaeological Survey of India and the New Delhi Municipal Council. The architectural style of the tomb of Sikander Lodi is in Indo Islamic style and was partly inspired by the tomb of Muhammad Shah. It is the first garden mausoleums in the Indian subcontinent and is the country’s earliest surviving enclosed garden tomb. The tomb is enclosed within a raised fortified complex with two dome shaped umbrellas at the main entrance. It is situated in the middle of a large garden and tall boundary walls. The housing space or the tomb chamber is ringed by a wide veranda with lightly carved pillars placed at measured intervals.

Sikandar Lodi's tomb actually has its own enclosure of gardens and a mosque. Apparently it used to be decorated with different colored tiles but nothing much remains currently. The building was apparently inspired by Shah tomb and has a similar octagonal structure and appearance. It's one of the first garden tombs of India.

The Tomb of Sikander Lodi, located within the picturesque Lodi Gardens in New Delhi, is a remarkable example of Mughal architecture and a testament to the rich history of India. This historical monument, built in the early 16th century, stands as a symbol of the architectural brilliance of the time and offers visitors a glimpse into the life and legacy of Sikander Lodi, the third Sultan of the Lodi Dynasty. The tomb, surrounded by a serene and well-maintained garden, presents a harmonious blend of red sandstone and marble, with intricate carvings and inscriptions that add to its aesthetic appeal. The structure's square base, topped by a dome, is a common architectural feature found in many Mughal-era tombs, showcasing the influence of Persian architecture on the design. Upon entering the tomb, visitors are greeted by a large courtyard, which leads to the main chamber housing the tomb of Sikander Lodi. The main chamber, adorned with intricate carvings and calligraphy, is a testament to the craftsmanship of the artisans of that era. The tomb itself is made of white marble and features a beautifully carved cenotaph, believed to be the actual burial place of Sikander Lodi. The surrounding garden, with its lush greenery and well-manicured lawns, adds to the serene atmosphere of the tomb. This tranquil setting allows visitors to appreciate the beauty of the monument and the historical significance of Sikander Lodi's reign. In conclusion, the Tomb of Sikander Lodi is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage of the Mughal era and gain insights into the life of one of India's notable rulers. The monument's architectural brilliance, coupled with the serene atmosphere of the surrounding garden, makes it an essential stop for anyone visiting Lodi Gardens.

The Tomb of Sikandar Lodi is the tomb of the second ruler of the Lodi Dynasty, Sikandar Lodi (reign: 1489–1517 CE) situated in New Delhi, India.[1] The tomb is situated in Lodhi Gardens in Delhi and was built in 1517–1518 CE by his son Ibrahim Lodi.[2] The monument is situated 100 meters away from the Bara Gumbad and the area in which it is situated was formerly a village called Khairpur. Sikandar Lodi (born Nizam Khan), was the Sultan of Delhi between 1489 and 1517 CE and was the son of Bahlul Lodi. After the death of his father in 1489, Sikandar Lodhi assumed the reign the same year and ruled until his death in 1517 CE.[3] Upon Sikandar Lodi's death in 1517 CE, his son Ibrahim Lodi built the tomb. The Tomb of Sikandar Lodi was inspired in parts by the tomb of Muhammad Shah which is also situated in the Lodhi Gardens The Tomb of Sikandar Lodi was inspired in parts by the tomb of Muhammad Shah. It has octagonal design and the architectural style is Indo-Islamic. The tomb is the first garden tomb in Indian subcontinent and is India's earliest surviving enclosed garden tomb.[5] The tomb is enclosed within a fortified complex (entered from a south facing gateway) with the main entrance having two umbrella shaped domes (pavilions) which was designed to preserve the symmetry and relative proportions of the body of the building.[6][7] Both pavilions on the square platform in the front have remains of blue tiles.[8] The tomb is situated in the middle of a large garden and tall boundary walls. Tomb chamber is surrounded by a wide veranda with carved pillars with each side pierced by three arches and the angles occupied by sloping buttresses The Tomb of Sikandar Lodi is located in and is a part of the Lodhi Gardens in Delhi, India. The village, where the monument stands was earlier called Khairpur. The garden is bounded by Amrita Shergill Marg in the West, North-West and North, Max MuellerMarg on the East and Lodhi Road on the South Side. Situated inside the lodhi garden, it's a mughal era monument that retains it's charm... Although the upkeep of the monument is a bit shoddy, it's presence amongst other monuments gives us a sense of the era they were built in...

Here lies one of the kings of Delhi sultanate. Lodi dynasty was the last dynasty of the sultanate. This tomb is just near the water pond. You have to climb few stairs to climb up. There is a beautiful Archway through which one enters the area. The tomb is beautiful but you cannot go inside. Keeping in mind that the person was king, the structure is quite somber as compared to other tombs. A humble request to people; please don't draw on the walls!

Amidst lush flora of the Lodhi gardens lies the tomb of Sikandar Lodi; the second ruler of the Lodi dynasty. This famous historical monument is situated in the Khairpur village that resides in south Delhi, which is a fine demonstration of the Indo-Islamic architectural style, hence counted among the best heritage places to visit in Delhi The tomb was built by Sikander Lodi’s son Ibrahim Lodi, after his death in 1517 CE. The architectural structure of the dome is such that it creates a false impression of double storey. This phenomenal structure sits on an uplifted rectangular veranda provided with three tall arches on each side, all leading to the chamber. The tomb is adorned with various colorful tiles whereas its walls have different foreign languages and mughal architectural designs engraved on it. To this secured complex the south facing gateway acts as the main entrance, which is flanked by umbrella shaped domes built on the square platform that were designed to add symmetry to this marvellous craftsmanship.

Located within the Lodi Gardens, this tomb set within its own garden has a separate fort like enclosure. As there are no crowds, it's a great place for photography with its beautiful arches and well maintained lawns. It's an ideal spot for an outdoor get together. The Lodhi Gardens are a must visit in New Delhi as they offer free access to numerous historical buildings. These are a short walk across the road from the Safdarjung tomb, at a walking distance from the Jor Bagh metro station on the Yellow line. This building is the tomb of Sikandar Lodi, the second sultan of the Lodi Dynasty that ruled over the Delhi Sultanate. The tomb itself is a fairly simple octagonal building and you can only see the cenotaph above the grave through the metal fence that prevents entry into the tomb. The tomb is set in gardens bounded by fort like walls, a precursor to the garden tombs of Mughal architecture. The tomb is part of the ensemble of Lodi era monuments inside Lodi park. It’s not quite as pretty as the other monuments though, but still worth a detour if you’re in Lodi park anyway.

The tomb has nothing to fancy about. Just mere structures that would haunt you if visited during sunset. But the surrounding garden "Lodhi Garden" is well maintained and is a quite a good place for both nature lovers and selfie lovers. Wide variety of trees, flower gardens, and takes quite a walking to map the place. The sun gives a magical touch to the overall atmosphere. Couples and Family and friends, everyone can visit. Safe for girls as well. Good crowd.

It's a historic place and protected by ASI. No entry fee and parking space is limited though free. Gardens and flower trees are maintained by Munciple commission. There are some fountain but not so maintained as water is very dirty and smells bad. People can definitely spend a quality time with family or with their loved ones. There are some water dispensing stations that too are free. Public convenience 🏪 are also there, maintained by NDMC and very neat and clean.

The place is a very welcome gift for suffocating people in delhi. Lush greenery and vast open spaces with well trimmed lawns and various trees does works as a refuge from day to day life. The presence of various birds and their songs is a rejuvenating experience. Not to mention the immense sense of peace that the lake brings with ducks and swans. The historical aspect of its relation with the Lodhi dynasty makes the visit a delicious pilgrimage.

I visited the Lodhi Garden in Delhi one more time last Sunday because on the previous visits I missed out on the Sikandar Lodi tomb. This is because the tomb is located in a faraway corner secluded from the main structures like the Bada Gumbad dome and Sheesh Gumbad Crystal dome. The name Sikander is a corrupt form of Eskander who is widely known by his more corrupt name of Alexander that was derived due to the habit of prefixing an Al by the Arabs. Thus Eskander became Al Eskander or Alexander. Another corrupt American short form or Alexander is simply Alex. ♿ Accessibility Features: Yes=Ramp access. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Entrance.
