Thanks for organizing annual 3 day PUSA Krishi Vigyan Mela 2020. It was very informative for new and repeat visitors. Entry and parking was free. The mela was spread into various sections - trade stalls by SHG, FPO, NGO and other small scale businesses; separate pavilion for academic and research purposes - it included booths by universities, research organizations, PUSA Incubation center; another pavilion for organized and medium to large scale businesses; separate pavilion for conferences and food court. Water coolers were placed at various places. Toilets were near and clean. Sufficient police was there for security purposes. But there were enough thugs doing the rounds in the trade fair, they included men, women, solo, in groups, with children, family all sorts of combination. They were known as Rs2000 gang fooling vendors throughout the day. This was the weakness for poor and rural vendors. Otherwise it was an excellent fair.

A Great Place to Learn and Work. This institute focuses on detection and diagnosis of new plant pathogens and management of the existing ones. Several departments within the institute are working on their own parameters helping the agricultural economy and its aspects towards sustainability and betterment. A nice place to learn as interns for freshers in the field of Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, and Genetics, Plant Pathogen Interaction etc...

TheĀ Indian Agricultural Research InstituteĀ (IARI), commonly known as theĀ Pusa Institute,is India's national institute for agricultural research, education andĀ extension. The name Pusa Institute is derived from the fact that the institute was originally located inĀ Pusa,Ā BiharĀ as theĀ Imperial Institute of Agricultural ResearchĀ in 1911. It was then renamed as theĀ Imperial Agricultural Research InstituteĀ in 1919 and following a major earthquake in Pusa, it was relocated toĀ DelhiĀ in 1936. The current institute in Delhi is financed and administered by theĀ Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The IARI was responsible for the research leading to the "Green Revolution in India" of the 1970s.

The institute was established in 1905 atĀ Pusa Bihar, with the financial assistance ofĀ Henry Phipps, jr., an American philanthropist. Phipps was a family friend ofĀ Lady Curzon, the daughter of an American millionaire, and the wife ofĀ Lord Curzon, theĀ Viceroy of India. Phipps stayed as a guest of the Curzons during his visit to India. More importantly, Phipps left behind with them a donation of Ā£30,000, which was used to establish the institute. He laid the foundation stone of the Agricultural Research Institute and college on 1 April 1905.Ā The Institute was originally called the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI). Its name was changed to the Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research in 1911, and to the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute in 1919.Ā A reason for establishing it in Pusa in northern Bihar was the proximity to the indigo plantations which were in need of revival after the German synthesis of aniline in 1899. One of the first scientists to be deputed to the institute was the English chemistĀ John Walter LeatherĀ in 1892. However, the institute was damaged during the devastatingĀ Bihar earthquake of 15 January 1934. The Secretary of State approved the transfer in July, 1934.Ā The Standing Finance Committee of the Union Assembly finally announced on 25 August 1934 inĀ Shimla, the decision to shift the institute to New Delhi at the approximate cost ofĀ ā‚¹3.8 millionĀ (US$53,000)Ā to a place that is now called Pusa in New Delhi. B.VishawanathĀ was the Director at that time. He also happened to be first Indian Director of IARI. The new campus at New Delhi was inaugurated on 29 July 1936, while the new building of the Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research was inaugurated by the then Viceroy of India, Lord LingthowĀ on 7 November 1936.

The journey of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), popularly known as Pusa Institute, began in 1905 at Pusa (Bihar) with the generous grant of 30,000 pounds from an American philanthropist, Mr. Henry Phipps. The institute was then known as Agricultural Research Institute (ARI) which functioned with five departments, namely Agriculture, Cattle Breeding, Chemistry, Economic Botany and Mycology. Bacteriology unit was added in 1907. The name of ARI was changed to Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research in 1911 and, in 1919 it was renamed as Imperial Agricultural Research Institute. Following a devastating earth quake on 15th January 1934, the institute was shifted to Delhi on 29th July 1936. Post independence, the institute has been renamed as Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI)
