Honestly I wanted to love it here. I've been here on off season (during construction) in the past and had such a lovely peaceful retreat from life's chaos, but this time was far different, our first cabin had no toilet paper, missing toiletries, the curtain to the porch was falling off and the oven was so filthy it filled the entire place with smoke when I preheated it to make dinner, so we requested a new cabin if possible. The second cabin had a smoke detector beeping and some of the toiletries were like already used, so we asked once more for a new cabin as we had seen someone in the lobby waiting over an hour to have someone come vacuum their room in the lodge that was dirty when they got in. (I was crying at this point). My husband requested to get a phone call from management as we were told they were not available to speak to, and no one called. He asked again for a call as the front desk person assured us we would be getting a call from the manager as soon as they got in and no one called. If I could rate service a zero I would. The front desk people were always on their phone and acted like it was such a pain to have to take their headphones out and talk to people who needed help, I almost ran into someone who had abandoned their cleaning cart and was sitting in the stairwell texting or playing on their phone. The only person who I would call friendly and helpful was the woman in the gift store. I was so disappointed in how our trip started and how we were treated and the fact that a staff member told us the cleaning crew is horrible and they weren't surprised no one reached out to us. Once we finally got situated in a clean (stocked with new toiletries and surprising other details that had not been in the previous two cabins, like a laminated paper on the table explaining how to prep your cabin to leave, or a new sponge in plastic) it was a lovely time in a gorgeous setting. I was HIGHLY disappointed in the lack of pride in their work from almost every staff member I encountered and the apparent lack of care for guests who experienced difficulty during their stay. I truly love this location, love the serenity of visiting in winter and hope the staff and management decide the people who are staying here deserve to be put in clean prepared cabins and not treated as annoying or completely ignored when these things don't happen as they should. Honestly I'm not sure I will return here and the ongoing updates and construction were not a problem in the least.

This hotel is going under a complete renovation. We made reservations day of, so a quick night sleep and continue our travel the following day. That being said the wing of rooms they are putting guests in should be closed!! The rooms are outdated and everything is SO old. No lamps for phone charges etc- The bathroom hardware is completely rusted and falling apart. The toilets have so much rust or mold I couldn’t tell which was what. The beds have absolutely no support and the pillows smell terrible b.o and felt like bricks. We had to move to 2 different rooms- each room had there share of problems- neither room was better than the other. First room bathtub had a permanent rust line down the middle. Second room bathroom had no drain stopper because it didn’t need it- it simply didn’t drain. No showers/ bath for my family. I believe once renovations are complete it will be a lovely resort as the ground are breathtaking However, they should NOT allow guests to stay in any of these old, unsanitary rooms during the remodel of this hotel.

Went there for a wedding. Besides the lake being beautiful, that's all this place has to offer. NOT WORTH THE PRICE. Rooms are dirty and rather small. Bugs. Most of the staff seemed annoyed that guests were bothering them to do their job. Refused to accept state issued interim documentation despite having both the ID and paper, which seems illegal. Would not recommend the facilities or the staff. Ohio has prettier lakes with better accommodations and more friendly and competent staff.

Remodeled rooms are ready, all the work and construction continues. Everything is new in these rooms from the mattresses to the bathtub and they are really nicely appointed. The view of the lake from some of the rooms is just amazing. So nice. Not all of Ohio state parks offer that kind of lake view.

We booked an interior park view, but were given a parking lot view. Front desk said they couldn’t do anything. Evidently, interior park view does not have a park view! The fridge didn’t work and the room is 63 degrees! Waiting for maintenance check it out for over two hours. No apologies from the front desk staff whatsoever. We have stayed at all the other Ohio lodges and enjoyed our stay very much. This is our first time to this one. After the third time going to the front desk they sent Jeremy to fix the a/c . He was very professional, courteous and apologetic. The restaurant and its staff were good.

Quite possibly the worst hotel I've stayed at. The AC in the room didn't work as it didn't work in many other rooms. The water initially coming out of the facet was black. Most the amenities are not avaliable to include gym hot tub and indoor pool for which they did not mention when I called to reserve the room online. I ordered a hummus platter from the pool and the lady working said it would take 15 to 20 minutes. 50 minutes later it was not made and when I went to ask about it the lady running the pool bar argued with me. The trails surrounding the hotel are poorly maintained. The view of the lake is pretty but at 200 dollars a night I say this is a far cry from being a good value for the price. They do gave really cute wild cats and wood chucks on the property

Upon arriving, we were told that the indoor pool and hot tub was unavailable and would be for the remainder of the season. We were not informed of this at the time of our booking, even though we called to confirm our reservation prior to our stay. We were given the option to just leave and be refunded or to stay and deal with the accommodations. Since we had just driven a few hours to be there, we decided to stick it out. Conveniently enough, a banner across the website informing future guests of the inaccessibility to the indoor pool appeared soon after our dilemma. Furthermore, there are renovations under way on the roof and throughout the lodge. The associated noise with that grew old. Personnel were not helpful and could not answer questions or concerns. We could not enjoy the balcony as much as we would have liked because we had the disservice of being in a room near someone who enjoyed smoking-cigarettes and marijuana-despite it being a nonsmoking facility and being clearly posted throughout. Person was calmly asked to stop and reminded that there was no smoking permitted. When it continued, it was reported to management who stated that they would investigate it, but never did. During our stay, we had a morning without hot water. We were told that that was due to renovations and that it would come back on soon. We were not offered any compensation in any form for the inconveniences. What was always an enjoyable lodge and pleasant stay in the past was frustrating and disappointing. We likely will not be back.

Our room had dead bugs on the ceiling. The pillows were rock hard and made it difficult to go to sleep. The staff was very short and kind of rude with me each time I had an interaction with one. With construction going on they could do a better job of letting guest know what entrances they can use. The location is very beautiful and the lake is a great view

The room was really rundown. I turned on the shower and rust colored water came from the spigot. When I turned on the sink faucet, water not only came out of the faucet, but also came out around the faucet. The toilet hadn't been cleaned before I arrived and urine from a previous guest was dried to the toilet. They were doing updates to the facility, but they should have closed during renovations considering the quality of the open rooms.

If I could give them a 00, I would. My wife and I were attending a friends 50th wedding anniversary and we stayed at Deer Creek. We had reservations for 6 nights in a suite. We checked in, got the keys and walked into the room. Our first impression was WOW! Then I flip on the lights...No light in the main room and things went down hill from there. The kitchen floor was VERY sticky and the sink was dirty, the bathroom was not clean, razor in the shower, bugs on the vanity, hair in the tub, gunk around the faucet. The beds were made but, only one sheet on the mattress. The carpet was dirty and had paint spilled on it. The balcony was dirty with bugs and spider webs. The Glass doors had smears and kids hand prints all over. Confetti was on the floor and in the ceiling light (that didn't work anyway). No side tables in the room. Complained at the desk and was told no other suite was available so the lady sent maintenance & housekeeping. Maintenance got 1/2 of the light to work, housekeeping did remake the bed properly and cleaned the bathroom, so-so, but could only complain about the manager and blamed it on Covid-19 ( lame excuse ). She said the lady that does the laundry was off with Covid and they were short on linens. ( Can't anyone else run the washers & dryers? ) Was also told that room was usually used as a host room for meetings & weddings, ( so, you don't care about the condition of it ? ) There is a BIG management problem there. Oh, the great view of the parking lot was not exciting either. For $229 a night, that was rediculous and disgusting, to say the least. The state of OHIO should be ashamed of the place. Yes, outside construction was well underway and understood, but that has nothing to do with the old and dirty inside. The room renovations should have been done first. IMO. At check-out , I told the lady about the problems we had and we did get a 10% discount. WHOOPY !!! We always wanted to stay there but now we will stay far away. Drury Inns has them beat with free breakfast & supper and much cheaper rates.

Only thing nice about the place was the view. The restaurant was so slow and the food was NOT worth the wait. The breakfast buffet is overpriced with only five options to choose from and the food was either undercooked or cold. The floors around the pool were dirty. The toilet in the bathroom a few times would not flush and the sink in the room wouldn't work. The hair dryer was dirty and rusty. The entire time I was in the room which was only for one night I was practically coughing because you can smell the mold. Would recommend a hotel over this place.

The staff was very nice and the building is beautiful. It's to bad the rental management company takes so little care of the property. Tax payers in Ohio should be upset that state government doesn't care about the management companies they have running these facilities. The best way to describe the overall condition is "filthy" . The restaurant has a breath taking view but the glass hasn't been cleaned outside in years, Covered with spiders and their droppings. Mold was on the shower ceiling from a water leak in the past. Definitely not what is expected for the price.

We’re here during renovations so everything is a little torn apart. The service was fantastic but unfortunately that is where the positive vibes end. The lodge was pretty dirty and had a very strong mildew smell throughout. I hate to be so critical but for the cost of a stay I expected more. The restaurant was pretty good but nothing to write home about. The sitting area overlooking the lake was pretty and was clearly one of the areas that had been remodeled. As of right now I can’t recommend this lodge. It is far too overpriced for the current state of disrepair.

Had trouble from beginning making a reservation. Stayed in a cabin. Not very clean. Broken chair, no router for internet - ask to have one - they did not have any to replace. So no service for us. Thermostat did not seem to work. Front desk was not helpful when ask questions. Hostess in dining was not considerate - only one other table was being used and she seated a family with 3 small children (screaming and banging on windows) on our backs??? Ask for receipt on check-out and printer did not work. Also felt should have had a discount with all of the renovation. It was bad.

I went with my kids for a 2 night stay. There was construction going on, and the indoor pool was closed down due to the construction. I bought some game room passes, and it was literally a waste of money. Most of the games weren't working, and they deducted the credit from the game card. The outdoor pool was fun, wasn't too crowded, and there was always a lifeguard present. The breakfast was good, just a little bit pricey. My older kids did not really enjoy the stay, but my younger kids did because of the pool. The internet was down for those 2nights we were there, no cable on the TV, just watched local channels, spotty mobile network, we had to walk to some areas of the lodge before we could get network. I couldn't even play movies or games on my laptop because there was no wifi. The rooms and all the furnishings were outdated, the bathroom definitely needed more cleaning. Hopefully, the construction extends to upgrading fittings in the room. The gift shop had nice gift items but they were pricey.

I cannot give any star ratings because I did not stay in a room...would not have been able to afford it if I wanted too. ($170 n up at this writing. That's just regular pricing) The lodge is like many...woodsy, with what must be requisite deer antlers mounted over a fieldstone fireplace big enough to roast a Texas longhorn in. Big floor to high ceiling, sweeping glass window overlooking a lake. Comfortable. The staff in the gift shop friendly as was the lady at front desk 4 stars for location because it's only 45-minute drive south of Columbus 4 stars fir the friendly staff at front desk and gift shop. Not a lot of people walking around. Typical setting for those Corporate Retreats or for couples with half a grand to blow over a weekend

Very impressed with the Deer Creek Lodge, the new entrance is very impressive and the rooms have all been update, very nice, nice colors and a very comfortable bed. I was here over 10 yrs ago, what a change. Dinner was excellent, steak was cooked perfectly and loved the salmon with the spicy sauce. The sweet potatoes were done perfectly, cubed and seasoned, different but very good.

Just returned from a night stay. Lots of loud construction. It is in the middle of a much needed renovation. Understaffed? The staff was friendly. Wouldn't recommend the restaurant. Bed was comfortable. Pool was a hit. The place felt run down, almost sketchy? It seems like they are trying to make it right? Check reviews again this summer? I would choose another State Lodge for now.

I showed up in the middle of the night and couldn't see the sign pointing to the side entrance through all the constitution. Called the front desk and the guy on the phone was very nice. Then when I spotted the sign he mentioned while still on the phone, I let him go and made my way inside. Bruce had left the front desk to come greet me and show me the way through the construction to get me checked in! I opened the balcony door in my room and bugs poured in, like 250 of them at least. I shut the door and went back to Bruce - he made no fuss about it and switched me to a new room right away. I was quite thirsty from the last few hours of driving empty handed and went straight to the sink with one of the little plastic cups you always see in hotels. Drank two glasses and my mouth felt strange, then I saw that it was coming out brown and filthy. Gross. 🤢 I went back out to Bruce but stopped at the vending machine to see they have small bottles for $3, cash only though so I had to continue on to the front desk. Thirsty and flustered, I asked him if there were any other options. He remained kind and even offered to make coffee for me. I didn't want anything made with the tap water here, so I declined, he offered direction to the nearest gas station that was still open. If you decide to stay here, be sure to bring your own drinking water, but also be sure to look out for Bruce - top tier person! Would stay again (after renovations complete) (if I don't die from some awful contaminated water brain parasite) only because of how kind he was. Thanks Bruce!

Make sure to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking a resort. They compare thousands of hotel sites and normally will have prices much cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This resort is one of the best in the area. I've been staying here for a very long time. If you stay for a few nights you won't be let down. It has Amazing view in the dining area and various lodge rooms. Friendly staff, great hiking trails and lots of other beautiful areas.

The Lodge itself had a rustic and warm feel. Here are the issues: 1. Food was not kept up when it was empty, and some if the conference attendees waited some time for the food to come back out. 2. We had a broken bed, how it was not obvious I could not understand. You could stand and look at it once the sheets are off the mattress it literally sunk in the middle. The box spring had busted springs, so the maintenance was unable to switch because it was late at night. So they did accommodate us by giving more blankets to try to level. If a guest complains, you should have a staff confirm the issue, not question the guest, and give no answer as to how the problem will be solved. The guest has to leave the room and have the front person come down to look. That staff person climbed in bed with street clothes on to check it out and says, "Oh yes, it's broken." I can say that the morning staff did accommodate us by giving us a great discount off the room for the inconvenience. Customer service training is recommended for some of the staff.

My wife and i went there to suprise our grandson in the quarter midget awards ceremony. We got a lakeview room and stayed 2 nites. Staff was great! Room was fantastic and the Lodge was all decorated in Christmas decor that added to an already gorgeous place. We did have a meal there but we felt the menu was a little low on choices but was a great dinner still. We definately plan on a few more stays there and soon!

Beautiful Ohio State Park Lodge! Even though parts of the lodge are still being renovated, the entryway, lobby, restaurant and some of the rooms have already been completed. Our room had already been remodeled and the updated decor is very nice. Our room also had a balcony with a view of the lake, highly recommended versus a room overlooking the outdoor pool. Rooms are a bit small, so families off 4+ might want to consider booking adjoining rooms. There is an indoor swimming pool and hot tub to accommodate guests year round. Plenty to see and do at the park. Would definitely visit again.

The views were very nice and include a beautiful lake. There are walking paths; I suggest stopping at the park office for maps because they can be difficult to find. The lobby has leather sofas and a fire place and is a nice place to sit and read. The room was nice but the bed was hard. They are remodeling so hopefully they get new mattresses.

The bathroom had a ring in the bathtub and a bottle cap in the top corner of the shower. The hair dryer started smoking when we used it. The sheets were dirty and smelled. The hot tub was so gross it had dirt all around the sides with black stuff floating in it. It would take a lot for me to stay there again

This place is awesome, they have everything you could want or need as a resort goes and it's all very nice and new looking, and the food at the restaurant is Phenomenal especially the pizza , You have a view Uber looking the Lake with seating outside to disrevax. Or you can eat outside as well while enjoying that view , I would highly. recommend this place.

Candace was the ROCK STAR, and the reason Hubby & I enjoyed our three night stay in our cabin. After the Memorial Day weekend, we arrived. It was quiet, clean, well stocked, and comfortable. We look forward to returning at the end of summer. Thank you for a wonderful time!

It's always good to stay at Deer Creek! The scenery is beautiful and I got in some good hiking. Breakfast and lunch were even better than I remembered from past times, also.

Stopped at the lodge while we were out for a drive. Since it was noon we decided to eat. I had my doubts because of some reviews. Boy was I mistaken. We had Cobb salads that were delicious and generous. There was only one server and she was very attentive and personable. She might be overwhelmed later without more help if business picks up but she was five-star for us. We left glad that we'd stopped.

We've stayed at this lodge for so many years and if ever any issues, the staff has always been the best to all of us! The gift shop has the most amazing ice cream! Annette that runs it is a sweety. It's nice to see the same faces when you walk in.The view is always calm, peaceful, and just breathtaking. My baby grew up on Deer Creek and we've come here for years. The construction is a pain, but can't wait to see the new look! The staff will accommodate all your needs to make it the best stay ever. Thanks Deer Creek! We always look forward to our December Christmas party every single year! Thanks so much Bill!

I didn’t have a problem with any thing, its not a bad price considering its a lodge . Not a hotel or motel so it doesnt come with a free breakfast. However it has alot of nice things! Been coming here for years its nice to see the renovations before and after . I disagree with a previous comment stating the gift shop employees didn’t know much about the park. They were EXTREMELY helpful with helping me have a fun filled day with my sons. They had everything you really needed to have fun and they told me about the fun game room down the hall from the pool !

I booked the room at the official site for the bed & breakfast deal which includes 2 people breakfast for a room. When you get these breakfast deals, you would assume the breakfast is fully covered... you know... I guess a lodge is different concept than a hotel..? We got the two breakfast vouchers each covers 12 dollars and the breakfast at the restaurant in the lodge charged $25 for two and other fees other than tax. So we had to pay extra after the vouchers. I felt bad that no website or anywhere explained about it... If you are thinking to get this bed&breakfast deal, please consider it is not fully covered!

We visited the lodge but didn't stay here so can't attest to the rooms. The facility is beautiful with amazing views. The gift shop was nice, but the staff needs more training in customer assistance and needs more knowledge about the park itself. We had better luck in the camp store

I absolutely love this place! Its the best resort close to Columbus - a great escape from city living. This place does have some downsides, however, which are easy to overlook. - and overall does not tip the threshold to downgrade it off a 5-star rating. Your experience is a 5-star experience, for sure. The vast amenities cannot be beat basically anywhere near central Ohio. Its a gem! But if I had to make a couple criticisms: One, it is outdated - place needs a facelift - which I hear is in the works. Excellent! Also, the restaurant is a conistant disappointment. In fact I've never had an experience where the service didn't let me down - expect the food to take 40 minutes and for your second drink order to arrive with dinner. WHOA! Just be patient and temper your expectations and you'll avoid this minor pit fall. We've been just going to the "BAR" which is separate from the restaurant, - they have decent pizza and subs and you'll get much better service there. Enjoy!

Went here for a friend's wedding and decided to stay the night. Starting with the bad: the walls are paper thin and you can literally hear everything that's going on in the halls and other rooms. The beds are mediocre at best and let's just say we got little to no sleep during our stay. The rooms themselves are very outdated and there was no shampoo or body wash/bar of soap in our room. We literally had to use hand soap in the shower lol. Now with the good: As soon as you enter the place you get an absolutely beautiful view of the lake. The grounds themselves are pretty and the pool is a really nice size. There's plenty of activities to get into on the lake. Overall: We would likely not return.

This was a pretty cool place to stay. Decent hiking around the park, lots of options if you have small kids. The restaurant is very under-staffed at the moment, so service is a little slow. If you are vegan, breakfast is very limited (basically just potatoes and fruit). Breakfast is also not complimentary. Vegan options for dinner are limited to two salads (house without subs and the strawberry and watermelon without the feta cheese).

My mother and I spent a couple of days here and it was absolutely amazing. Checking in and checking out was a breeze and the front desk ladies were so professional and kind. The one was taking a lot of abuse from a guest and I felt so bad for her. The view from our room was amazing as well. We got to watch all the wildlife and especially the vultures. I loved sitting there watching the vultures try and drag around the cushions off of the pool couches lol. Every staff member I came across was so chipper. I will be recommending this lodge to everyone. The breakfast, lunch and dinner at Rafters was absolutely amazing as well. We both really enjoyed the lodge burger. With staffing issues they’re having there was a few things out of place here and there but that is to be expected and did not deter us one bit.

My husband and I stayed in a cabin at Deer Creek State Park for three nights during our anniversary. The little cabin we stayed in with very nice, with nice furniture and linen and newer bathroom, except for a couple of things. The kitchen was incomplete as far as necessities are concerned. 1. There was no spatula, no dishcloth, scouring pad or sponge. There are several other things that you really need in a kitchen that we're missing. 2. The screens to the screened in deck were all either loose or completely separated. You cannot have children on a porch like that since it is way above the ground. I love the view of the lake. 3. Spider webs, cobwebs everywhere along the wall and ceiling. One lamp was very thick with dust. 4. Only the plug outlets that had something actually plugged into it like a lamp worked. The plug above it did not so if you had to put a plug for your cell phone to charge you are out of luck, or if you need it to plug in your shaver in the bathroom you can't do it.

Great atmosphere, nice indoor pool and older hot tub. Fitness room. Fire pits can be rented for $25 for 2 hours which seems ridiculous, those should be free for cost to stay at lodge. Tile in bathroom very old and dated. Beds are comfortable. Overall nice place, just come with expectations that is is a lodge not a shiny new hotel.

Over the decades that I’ve visited Deer Creek it continues to go downhill. Hit or miss if the room is in working order. One visit my mom and I finally got in our room at midnight after changing 3 times for various reasons. The bartender seemed very bothered to be there, let alone ‘wait’ on customers when we were the ones actually waiting on her. I waited 17 minutes for a drink at one point 7:30pm, and I was the only customer at that point. My last visit I called ahead to make sure the gift shop and bar/restaurant would be open since I was traveling, got there and the bar and gift shop were closed, lights didn’t work in the hotel room etc, asked the guest services to let the mgmt know and I never received an email/call etc. I feel like just a number there. I am/was a loyal customer but now extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. I can’t get over the ‘beautification fee’ guest have to pay for all purchases, (food, drink, room, gift shop) when there are cigarette butts all over the property. I could go on but what’s the point, no one follows up. It’s a ‘Roll the dice’ situation at this point as to how my stay will be.
